Hello people,
I have a rooted phone and i'm trying to edit build.prop file. The problem is that whenever i try to do this the file reverts back after minutes to a backuped version the phone is handling. I tried everything: App to edit the file, switch to r/w under esexplorer, rename the file. The modifications are accepted at first, but only for minutes.
Does anyone know how to deal with this? Thank you for all your contributions.
Use Rom Toolbox app

Something I just ran across - I'm running Jivy's ICScreweD ROM, and Hulu+ doesn't show up in the on-device market, and indicates unsupported on the i9100 in the web market. My guess is that this is due to lack of international support for Hulu+, so no need for support on a non-US device.
Anyone have any thoughts on getting Hulu+ on the device with this (or presumably any other i9100 ROMs)?
Would it simply be a matter of tracking down a current Hulu+ .apk and installing it? Or will Hulu not play nice if it thinks I'm on an unsupported device?
Would a relatively simple edit to build.prop fix the issue? If so, can anyone provide a link to some guidance on what I should tweak in build.prop?
Thanks,
DD
Start by looking at the fingerprint in build.prop

OK, anyone got a stock ROM already downloaded and handy they could copy the fingerprint from the build.prop and post it here?
Any pitfalls associated with just changing that line?
Thanks

Find a titanium backup somewhere on the forum and restore it. It worked for me.

OK. changed fingerprint in the build prop to the one pirateghost provided. fixed permissions, rebooted, cleared market data, and still no hulu+ app.
Time for some more research...

I forgot whom I got these files from on here, but all you need to do is download and extract the attached file to your TitaniumBackup folder then restore using App+Data. That should do it.

Thanks Magn2o, appreciate the upload! at least this will get me up and running until I can sort out the market to keep it updated!
Edit: file installed fine, let me log in. won't stream video, claims the device is unsupported. back to monkeying with build prop again...

to me in the system / bin is just the file chargemon, I tried to put the charge of ics files but does not work the same ... I can upload the files charge of gingerbread? thanks
I think this is kernel related, maybe you could flash some more recent rom?
I read around that is a problem of the cwm, you can not solve?
I have a rooted galaxy tab 10.1 wifi using stock ics and the A1 kernel v2.1, is their a way to change the boot animation? I've tried installing it to /data/local/ with no luck and even tried /system/media/ but nothing worked. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance!

Its not that easy some times. The system that handles the bootanim is stock and there for not easy at all to change. Its some strange file standard. If you look in the system/media you find some files related to bootanim the file ending is sonething like qmd. You can google on that and try to mod it.
The easy way is to wait for some poor rom cook to change system.

I did a search on what you said and came across this link:
Code:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/15962-ei2romodincwmtweakstock-v14-updated-2712/
. If you checkout the changelog, it says that it changes the /system/media/ directory to where you can just name it a certain thing and it'll work and for this, all you have to do is flash it using CWM recovery. What do you think about this? Do you think it's safe?

Hi
No that rom is for an other unit. Its important to not flach wrong rom.
It need to be supported by the kernel. The creator of kernel A1 knows about this problem with bootanim. And its a hard to fix.

There's no need to flash another ROM,and any ROM contains it's kernel in it's own package, you can go to this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709693
Here you'll see some bootanimations made for gtab 10.1...
Note that flashing these packages doesn't harm you device but may cause issues if they're not made for your version, for example cm9 went into a bootloop or didn't show the bootanimation when I flashed a bootanim...
Hi,
I have been trying to flash a custom rom made for Xperia X8 devices to my X10 mini pro but the touch doesn't works after flashing..
Is there a way by which I can modify the flashable zip so that touch works.
I have done this much so far..
1. Downloaded X8 rom and unzipped using root explorer.
2. Replaced system/app, system/framework and system/lib folders of my working rom with the X8 rom folders and zipped file and flashed. This worked but I think this will not give desired result completely.
When I directly flashing Xperia X8 rom, touch does'nt works..which is understandable due to resolution issues..so my question is which other folders I need to modify from the X8 zip. Is it going to work if I lower the density from 160 to 120 in build.prop and then flash..
If there is any link which can make me learn porting roms and understanding the importance of different sub folders in a rom zip that will be helpful.
Sorry if I sounded dump here but I want to learn things..

On build.prop change lcd.density to 120
And copy bin from base to your port rom
Follow this guide
Anything to done to system/lib/module folder?

Is there a way to change/add the device model in Android emulator?
If I try to get device model programatically, it always return "android-sdk" or "sdk" in emulator.
I want to set the real device name in emulator for testing purpose.
You can download ROM toolbox and it'll allow to change almost everything

Search in Google play for ROM Toolbox Lite. This version is free and support the build.prop edit you want.
Caution: Prior applying any changes please make a backup of your current build.prop file
I believe you can just also navigate to the system folder and find it there. Use es file explorer and under settings check up to root, root explorer, and mount system.
