I'm trying to perform a certain functionality and maybe I'm missing something or maybe theres a mod for it?
I use Waze for GPS driving directions. What I'd like to do is activate Waze, activate driving mode, and have S-Voice begin listening for the activation phrase. Then, after reading/replying to an incoming text, finishing a call, or other driving mode function, return to Waze.
At the moment, what happens is I activate Waze, activate driving mode, and when I get a call or text, S-Voice functions as it should, but after a function, goes back to the S-Voice screen, which is not good because it then blocks my Waze screen.
Also, does anyone know if there's an app that can activate/deactivate app functions based on other active apps? For instance, if Waze is active, GoSMS popups would be disabled until I quit Waze.

looks like this is exactly what i need. thanks!
Waze sucks, why don't you just use the free and awesome "Navigation"?? (blue arrow)

Living in/near the city, I personally find Waze to be a lifesaver for my daily work commutes. Why don't you like it?

Just curious...what's the benefit of Waze vs the stock Navigation?

Real-time crowd-sourced reporting and routing. Regular navigation relies on data gathered from major thoroughfares with traffic monitoring set up, which can be delayed between gathering and reporting. Waze is crowd-sourced so the more people that use it, the better the routing. It's real time so if traffic suddenly builds up due to an accident, rush hour, etc, you'll immediately be routed around it. It's saved me HOURS of time and hassle.

I've searched and haven't seen anything about this. After turning off gps, if I go to make a call, gps will turn back on!
Any insight? Obviously it can be annoying to turn gps off every time I make a call, and don't need gps killing my battery life. Is this a known bug like the YouTube app?
Thanks in advance.
Do you have any apps like mobile defense or wave secure installed? It may be one of those because I have mobile defense on my phone and often notice the same thing.
posting for cred, Sorry.
Does anyone use this app? Seems it would automate almost anything on the phone. Any ideas or set ups on what automation works would be appreciated.
thanks

I use AutomateIt, it does a lot of stuff. Gonna go check this one out.
AutomateIt does all the same stuff, from what I could see, and for free.
I use tasker... I love it. I have tasks that puts the phone into silent mode when I get into my office, and one that turns the volume down low during night hours... the possibilities are almost endless.
Tasker is awesome! I use it to automagically turn on Bluetooth, GPS, but mainly got it to mute in meetings.
I prefer Llama. Its free and working great. Easy to set up, too

I think tasker has a lot of possibilities.. I have this app, but can not figure out how to program it for the life of me!
I would like to make it so when I pull the device out of my pocket, the screen will light up (light sensor trick)
However, I can not figure it out.. has anyone done this on the Atrix, and if so, would you mind sharing?
Main thing I use it for is Google Maps. I have it set to automatically turn on GPS as soon as I open Maps. I'll admit though..that trying to program Tasker is a task in itself..and I can never get other peoples Profiles to install onto my phone from their website.

Does anyone know why I would be getting an error "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped" whenever a tasker function is started?
I used the wiki page to set up the GPS to enable for Navigation and Maps using the Secure Settings add on. Whenever I start the Navi I get the error message, then have to exit and re-enter the app. After the first time, the error message does not pop up again, no matter how many times I open and close Navigation. The GPS works fine, and disables when I exit the app, but it's kind of annoying.
Thanks
I'm looking for a way of automatically turning on GPS and data whenever I launch Google Navigation. I've tried Tasker but it doesn't allow toggling of GPS on the S2. I've also tried AutomateIT but this simply doesn't work - I created a rule to enable GPS when the Maps app was activated but whenever I launch Maps/Navigate it still tells me that GPS is disabled.
Can anyone recommend a good way of doing this?
Did you find out HOW, yet, am still looking , and i know it will be so helpfull.
Like on google navigation start, GPS should be on automatically, and on exit, should turn of again on its own.
With the newest firmwares having GPS in standby doesn`t drain the battery significantly, neither does WiFi. With Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS in standby I`m sitting at 90% after almost nine hours in idle.

Oh, I thought that AutomateIt would work.
You may try other profile apps, such as Toggle Settings | Profiles.
There you can define different profiles, e.g. outdoor with wifi disabled and GPS enabled. And you can define some triggers on which the phone switches between the profiles.
There is a free Lite version in the Market. So just test it. And if it is good for you, there is a "full" version too.
Good luck!

I've tried AutomateIt and I was running into the same problem as you. What you have to remember is to make sure that the GPS toggle on your phone is set to 'enabled'. After you do this, set two different rules in AutomateIt for activating and deactivating GPS. It should work.
Hi,
do you know any app for GPS navigation which has voice routing possible in pedestrian mode? I would appreciate it as I sometimes need to go to some destination in a part of the city which is not familiar for me.
However, the navigations I tried, have voice routing only in car mode, so it has to take in account things like driving directions etc. which the pedestrian does not have to respect and thus the track is much shorter.
It would be nice if I, for example, just could get off the bus, switch my GPS on, select destination, activate the voice routing and put my phone in a pocket and let the navigation voice guide me to the target place. It would be more comfortable as I sometimes see the map very poorly and
also have to keep an eye on other pedestrians, cars etc.
Currently tried Sygic and it does not have this. Any suggestions?
thanks
I only know Google Maps, which is only particulary offline ( you can download some area)
I also use sygic and in the support center they say that they will add voice to the pedestrian mode later this year
So I just need a way to tap the phone once or twice when it sits in the holster while I'm driving and call/text via voice. I really don't need all kinds of extra crap like searching and launching music players, my phone is 95% for business and I am driving most of the time while on the phone (and have no internet connection).
Is S Voice the best option? I'm fine to keep using it, but just checking if there are better alternatives. I suppose my main concern is the battery drain of S Voice but I'm not sure if that's valid, if it is a drain or not, that's just from reading anecdotal posts around here and other forums.
Thanks for any help!
When driving s voice works for me for texts and calls, though with one issue. I use a motorolla bluetooth fm transmitter and drive a noisy diesel van, so the mike has a bit of trouble picking me up perfectly. sometimes it gets it right, sometimes wrong. Though this is mostly with the message of texts. Getting the right contact or dialing the right contact seems to work ok. But it only gets the message right half the time. Just the noisy van interferring there. If I do it just with the phone it gets it right most of the time.
I haven't tried anything like vlingo with it, but really s voice is just vlingo isn't it? With my old s1 things like speaktoit, etc etc worked ok but certainly no better.
Thanks for your feedback! I suppose I am just curious about battery drain, especially since in the S Voice settings for wake up command it even says so right there (that it will cause battery drain).
I have no experience with this stuff really, but I don't think battery drain would be too much of an issue. I mean, s voice is not running spill the time. Only when you double tap the home button, or, like me, have it set to wake up on the lock screen. It doesn't seem to be running permanently in the background.
