to save space, can i save a custom rom onto one sd card, flash it, then take that sd card out and put in a different sd card with more free space? or does the sd card that has the rom saved to it need to be kept in the phone while running said rom?

You can delete it after flashing.

if i borrow my friends sd card to install a custom rom on my phone would i still need that sd card? or can i boot without it after the rom is installed?
no you will not need it because the OS is stored on the internal memory, you should consider getting an SD card
I just pre ordered the 32g galaxy S3. (SO EXCITED) I currently have a rooted thunderbolt. My TB has a 32G SD card in it currently and my wife wants the phone. If she takes it, I will want it to stay rooted for her but I really want that 32g SD card for my S3. Can I simply transfer all the rooted files from my current 32g sd card to my wifes smaller 8g SD card and still have root? If not, what can I do to get that SD card and still keep root along with the ROM and Kernel files?
thanks
The thunderbolt will stay rooted but the s3 will have to be rooted separately. There is a possibility that you could make a tibu of all your apps and restore them to the s3 after you get root.

I understand i will have to root the S3 seperately and then format the card to the S3. So i should be able to simply transfer the files from my 32g SD to her SD card? from there willl i need to flash the rom and kernel again on the TB or will it automatically recognize the files?
I don't think you will even have to format the sd card. The kernel on the thunderbolt should remain the same regardless of whether the file is on the sd card.

Hey all i have a problem, i cant instal rom cuz in CWM my sd card is phone memory WTF! In file manager my phone memory is SD card.
Really need help bro's.
Its supposed to be like that. Its like the internal SD card of the phone. For me, it never wipes the internal SD card when I installed a custom ROM. But I always made a backup. If you want to put ROM on external SD card, you can do so. And when you search for the ROM, the folder should be labeled as external SD

Screenshot?
Id est quod est
CM made this swap mid ICS is I remember. Was this to mitigate the encryption bug wiping out the internal?

Hi.
Can i make something like partition on internal storage? i have i9300 16GB internal and it woyld me nice to make 2-3 partition like C, D, E for games, apps, photo. Or game and apps, photo, rest and maybe protect before changing roms. I liek to change roms but its so bored installing all the times the same apps.
Also i want to buy mini sd card but waiting for answer bcs i dont know what to buy and ill install every apps and game on sd card so before change rom ill still have on sd card.
Don't mess with the internal storage, it isn't an sd card and you'll hard brick the phone.
Put everything on your external sd, leave the internal as empty as possible -this will reduce wear on the nand memory.

When changing roms you still would have to reinstall all games, nevermind if on internal or external sd. Just use Titanium Backup to make it easy and as said don't touch internal memory!

I don't think so as the base app or at least some parts is still installed in internal memory whereas e. G. Save games you could copy to external and copy back later if you can find the files.

I picked up a new 64gb SD card and tried to use TWRP to backup a ROM and no luck trying to backup to the card, can do internal memory no problem.
Anyone think of a reason for this? I can move files to the card via USB and ES Explorer so it isn't a writable problem.
Maybe it needs formatting to the correct form?
I had to do that to my trusty 8gb sd card I've had for years to get it to work.

But how do you explain being able to transfer files to it while in the phone, and also download directly to it?
Are you able to choose the external card from within TWRP for backups or is it not even an option there. It should be there if you touch the bar that says internal.. Sorry not rooted ATM so I can't see exactly what it says.
