[Q] Is that anyway to extract /sdcard to userdata.img? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is that anyway to extract /sdcard to userdata.img and then flash to other s3 through Odin?

just the /sdcard? copy and paste

userdata.img is /data not /sdcard.
Yes /sdcard is technically /data/media but this is omitted from userdata.img

I want to make a odin userdata.img as i want to transfer 3.7GB / 3,949 files / 590 folders to each i9300 which is the GPS app+data
Is that any method to do it in the fastest way?

As per my post use data.img is nothing to do with sdcard.
If you want to transfer data to another device, copy data off using a computer

thanks for the bad information... but is it possible to do it this way?
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=storage/extSdCard/userdata.img
then $ tar -H ustar -c userdata.img > odin.tar
finally perform odin update?

Please will you read what I have already said?
userdata.img goes to /data. This is NOT useful for you. /sdcard or /extSdCard CANNOT be flashed using userdata.img via Odin!

Thanks for ur information, I just wondering if there are any ways to transfer 3.7GB data to over 1000+ i9300 pba only, adb doesn't work as those pba w/o LCD
now i can just flash, then transfer files using MTP and click several times skip/don't convert, it is really annoying...

Windows and Linux will both have options to "do this action for all". In other words, you should only have to press "skip" or "over write" once.
You could zip the data, move the single file then unzip it but this will take longer.
Alternatively you could make a cwm flashable zip that unpacks to where you want - again, a lot of effort.
Dragging off and dragging back via MTP is quickest
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

skip one time, don't convert one time, 8 devices at once = 16 times...
on the other hand, wt is the purpose of UMS in Odin Flasher?

8 devices at once? What on earth are you doing?

Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p24 of=/sdcard/system.img
there are other ways to get a dump, like simply getting the content:
Code:
tar czvf /sdcard/system.tgz /system
both commands need root, and they are quite possibly not on the device by default, so you probably need busybox
i don't really recommend the second command, because some other blocks are mounted into the system (like the modem),
so you would get unnecessary data
Thank you very much.

there should be a few ext4 drivers or mount tools out there,
google, download one that looks good, and mount the image,
then you should have the drive mounted, and you should be able to access/modify the data

[GUIDE]How to extract Stock firmwares from Samsung?

And,comes another guide from me.... I was actually extracting a stock firmware and this came into my mind
Ok,I made this guide since the process of extracting firmware is a bit confusing sometimes. So,lets start with it
What you would need:
1.7zip or any other zip utility
2.Stock Firmware
3.MagicISO
4.Nothing else
Tutorial:
1.Start off by downloading a stock firmware,for this guide,we assume its DDKQ8
2.You will get 2 files, S5830DDKQ8_<bla bla>.tar.md5 and SS_DL.dll
3.Ignore the second file,we only need the first file which has an extension of .md5
4.Now its not possible to extract the file with the current extension.
5.So,rename the file S5830DDKQ8_<bla bla>.tar.md5 to S5830DDKQ8_<bla bla>.tar
6.Now,the file is extractable,so extract it.
7.You will get approx. 9 files: arm11 boot, amss, csc.rfs and various others.
8.Delete all the files except boot.img and system.rfs.These are the only files we need.
9.Now,using MagicISO,open up system.rfs and extract it.
10.Make a new folder named Rom_working
11.Now,move the boot.img there
12.Make a folder called system
13.Move all contents of system.rfs to this this folder.
14.Now all you need is a META-INF folder to complete the rom.(Unless you messed up)
Thats it! Pretty easy huh, this is something really basic, but a few people get confused on extracting it anyway. Its just meant to be a basic guides for those people. If you want to get more info on making a rom, refer this guide which i wrote a few months ago.Hope this helped you guys out.
NOTE: I am not responsible if you mess up your phone or w/e happens to it.Btw,<bla bla> stands for the rest of the filename
thanks for that,, i was woundering how it was done,, i ended up using a nandroid backup with kitchen to make my own lol

Boot into recovery, connect to your computer, open command prompt and type adb pull /system/build.prop
Edit the build.prop with notepad++ and fix the VM size, chances are that app set the VM size as 128 or 128mb instead of 128m which it should be.
Then once its fixed just adb push it back to /system/build.prop

I take it you don't have the android sdk on your computer? You need that to use adb.
If not then the easiest option is to factory reset, or maybe someone will make you a flashable zip that will replace your build.prop.

Yes, that's it.
First type "adb devices" (no" ")
If you get a long serial number then adb is set up on your computer but I doubt it seeing as you are asking how to boot into recovery.

[ROM] Stock ROM Base for Devs --- WORK IN PROGRESS

What is this?
These are pre-rooted Stock ROM Base's for Developer to use to create modified stock ROMs or for the average Joe to restore their device's to working order if they are stuck in a bootloop. You must have an unlocked bootloader and a working Custom Recovery to use this.
Downloads:
T-Mobile / Retail US - 139.11.6 - Odex ***Tested, will not go past the boot logo.
Instructions:
Put the .zip on your internal storage.
Boot up to your Custom Recovery of choice (example: Clockworkmod Recovery).
Make a complete backup of your device using the Custom Recovery, and store that backup on a computer or alternative storage.
Wipe data using the Custom Recovery.
Mount system using the Custom Recovery.
Format system using the Custom Recovery.
Install the .zip from your internal storage using the Custom Recovery.
Reboot and enjoy! (If it asks to disable recovery install, tell it not to.)
Thanks:
My testers.

[Breakthrough?] After flashing your ROM I did Advanced Restore and selected to ONLY restore System (from my backup) and I managed to boot! No FC or anything - seems to work perfect. I suppose that's where the problem lies? I dunno when I flash the ROM it does it a little too fast (under 5s?)... faster than it took my N4 to flash a 96MB Rom lol. I wonder if it's writing to system at all.
It did that for me on the first rom, I don't know if Matt put something in the build prop to differentiate it from the stock rom

Once an OTA update comes out for any Moto X variant we'll have a much better idea of the META-INF folder as a whole. In the meantime everyone feel free to keep playing with it to try to get it to work right. Making small updater-script changes to re-upload the entire ROM.zip is a huge pain. Soon enough we'll have the Dev Edition and more Developers will be joining us to get everything squared away.
Thanks testers!
