[Q] HTC Evo 4g lte: Do I have a developer's phone? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hello,
I just recently Evo 4g lte from an auction on EBay. When I got the phone and turned it on, on the startup screen I saw this message:
"This build is solely for the use of developement purposes only. Do not distribute without the written permission of HTC. Failure to comply may lead to legal action."
This piqued my interest, so I booted into bootloader mode, and this is what showed up on the screen:

Also the phone came already root and with a custom recovery installed. But it is strange, because there is no su icon in my app drawer, nor one for busybox. I was just wondering if this phone could have been a developer's phone within HTC or something else? I was just really curious, the phone works fine, and was able to activate it with Sprint. Any insight on this, would be really helpful.
Thank
Tim

From the looks of it you have a phone that has been rooted and unlocked. You still are S-On. It looks like the seller flashed an UN rooted ROM before shipping to you. You are on an older HBoot which may let you obtain S-Off easier than a newer HBoot

Yes I highly suggest getting S-OFF (any questions shoot me a PM )
The message is there because it's unlocked and has a custom recovery

Well... S-OFF achieved. but i can't get into recovery anymore.
After I installed SuperUser i get:
"Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!"
EDIT: Nevermind, got it.
I succesfully applied S-OFF to my EVO 3D GSM, however I can not (yet) install any custom recovery?

Did you also activate the SU ?
I also install the recovery is not, you do not know anyone here clamped recovery?
In hboot, it says:
Model ID incorrect.
Update fail!
Update: The newly released pre3 revolutionary succesfully transfers Clockwork Recovery to the phone. Just launch it, it will say that the device is already S-OFF and then type "Y". (Revolutionary SWM v4.0.1.4)
Thank you VERY much for the fast releases and updates!
I tried it early this evening and found out s-off worked but recovery not that was with the pre1 file. Then at 23.00 i downloaded the file again from the revolutionary fwebsite and it was called pre3 and that wok=rked like a charm. It mentioned that s-off was already there and then started to download clockwork
So perfectly

Might be worth jumping on the revolutionary irc channel to see if they'll open the app up to support that hboot using the existing software- its pretty unlikely that 0008 fixed this exploit at such short notice...

Good! I sold my xperia play bc I couldn't unlock the bootloader. Rogers lied to us saying it was gonna be unlocked out of the box. Glad we got some smart people working on it

Help needed to unbrick phone w/ no recvry/ROM s-on and newest FW

Basically I was given a bricked HTC evo 4g LTE. When I try to power it on normally it stays on the white "HTC quietly brilliant" it also says "this ROM is for development purposes only" under that.. when I boot into the boot-loader it says

There is no recovery, when I try to boot into recovery through adb via a cmd prompt or any other way it just reboots into fast boot. The firmware version is 3.16.xxxxxx
I would really appreciate a walkthrough or at least some tips/help on what to do. I figured getting s-off would be the best place to start but no luck so far

Your bootloader is locked (relocked). I think you should go to HTCdev.com and request your unlock token. Then you can unlock bootloader. Then you can flash TWRP recovery. Sounds like getting a functional recovery on there is paramount. There are guides here already on how to do this, check the stickies and both development sections, cuz I honestly don't remember where. ..
.
Also, I'd suggest not using the word "brick" so casually. You are far from bricked.

[Q] Stuck on white HTC Screen after enabling bootloader

Hey guys,
i just tried to root my friends evo 3d.
After following the HTCDEV.com-Method (and installing revolutionary) i tried to install a rom (LeeDrOiD 3D 5.4).
After flashing the rom i just get a bootloop with the white HTC-Screen.
Here's some Info i got in the bootloader:

I thought it might be the HBOOT-1.53 which is the problem so i tried following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22494488&postcount=1
Sadly we still get the white HTC Screen.
Any Ideas?
Did you make a backup? #1 rule when flashing
What recovery are you using?
Be sure to wipe all partitions before you flash
Also the Rom thread should give you requirements..ie hboot and such

Sadly i did not do a backup.
The leedroid loading icon actuallY shows for a second before the phone restarts.
My next Guess would be To install the gingerbread stock Rom. I will try that when i get home.
Any other ideas?
If youre s on, your choices are limited to stock based roms for the most part.
I have read a few posts about smartflash and flashing boot.IMG through fastboot, but I am s off and have personally never needed to do that.
So yes, start by flashing stock, to get you running.

Ever get it going? I have a cdma version with sprint that has a clean esn and working board but f'ed up lcd/digitizer. If your bricked for real or wanna just swap out boards then this will work great for you. And fyi its Eng Hboot 1.04 SOFF with revolutionary tool. was an original 1.40 hboot before the whole dev unlock crap that doesnt work for sh*t. my post about it is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282485 you can get at me with a PM if your interested.

Go to mwakious 3d rom thread. All step by step instructions are given their with bootloader. Use 4ext recovery to flash this rom. It should work 100%

used the wrong ruu

okay so sometimes the touch panel on my phone wasnt working right so i decided to make it stock so i can return it to htc so they can fix the screen.
so i first relocked the bootloader using qbking77 instructions and then i tries to ruu but i used the wrong ruu and now my phone is stuck at the bootloader

You need to get s-off via dirty racun... Then if you wanna go back to completely stock/unroot use VipeRuu, this because it looks like you are on the latest firmware for which we do not have an official RUU...
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
You will have to unlock your bootloader again and install a 3.16 based rom. Your touch screen problems are most likely not the screen but are caused by the touch panel drivers that were installed when you upgraded your firmware. Once you are on the latest firmware you can only use roms based on 3.16 and twrp recoveries that are 2.4 or newer. If you want to use older roms or AOSP roms you will need to go s-off and downgrade your touch panel drivers. Also, HTC won't do anything to fix your screen because you used the developer unlock and voided your warranty.
WOW thank you guys so much for ur help.this is the reason why i love the xda members so much they always come through with the help. :good:
i thought my device was done for good but i worked on it for a couple hours and i fixed it and its now rooted.
now my only issue is with the touch screen anyone know how i can fix that?

If your touch screen isn't responding once your phone boots, you have the updated touch panel driver and will have to use ROM's based off software version 3.16. You also must use TWRP version 2.4+. Once you gain S-off you can downgrade your touch panel driver and run whatever ROM you wish

[Q] Previously "rooted" S-ON and need help updating.

A while ago, I followed a root method I found here so that I could pair my DualShock3 controller to my phone and it worked successfully.
Then after a few months, I started getting messages about wanting to update my phone, but the install provided from Sprint always failed. I typically just ignored the System Update messages because everything worked fine exactly the way I wanted it to. Then about a week ago, the reminders increased in frequency, like once a hour. I though, hey, lets go back to factory and update, then I can root again. So I went into the recovery of the phone and found the option for Factory Reset under the "Wipe" Menu. I hit the button, but it apparently also wiped some things off the ROM. Now, when I try to boot the phone, It just sits at the HTC logo.
I can still access the bootloader and the custom recovery, and I even found what looks to be the right ROM Version and moved it to the phone, but it appears that the ROM I downloaded is for S-OFF bootloaders only. The problem now is, that I cannot find any instructions that work for the older version in obtaining S-OFF with my phone. So, can someone please help me in getting my phone updated, either S-ON or S-OFF, I just want my DualShock to work at the end and have my phone usable, which it currently is not.

I guess, what I really may need is the S-ON stock image for H-BOOT 1.19.0000, but every time I find a link, its dead. Does anyone know where I can find this? That way I can at least get back into my phone to attempt to figure out how to update it again.
Hit the link below. It's the 3.17 RUU. Afterwards, you can root your phone again with HTC Dev. I also suggest gaining S-off.
