[Q] Is there any exception for the 10 posts rule? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day sir,
I recently(2months) have started diving into Android Dev't and Android hacking using shell(w/ root permission)
I've been studying (how to's) by just lurking here in XDA-Developer...
and I also made a couple of Packages that requires Root access... I then share them to my group members in facebook(A group for our phone's model)...
But I realized that I should also have shared them to XDA-Developer in return for the knowledge I got here...
I have now successfully registered an account...
And when I try to create a thread in a specific section where this Package should belong, I just can't do it for I need to have atleast 10 posts...Y_Y

I understand that dint like it, but this limit has his reasons. Just answer some questions of other people who aren't as far as you.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app

hahaha yeah...
but i havr no choice now...
It is still worth-fun to answer other's unanswered questions...
it's what I'm doing now....
in this way, I am not only getting more posts, but also helped others... XD

It's just protect from people like me ;_;

a better app than TapaTalk?

I know there are a lot of talented and knowledgeable people in this forum. Won't somebody please make a better app than TapaTalk? The search function in this app is awful. Search a subject and the every post where the subject is somewhere hidden, comes up. Why did I pay for an app that I have to resort to Google's search engine to do a better job than the app for it's supported forums?
Surely some talented dev, wants to make some serious money?? How often do they update this app anyway?? How many of you guys and gals, do this for free and are constantly working on improving and updating your work?
This app is prime for a take down! The best thing about this app is that makes the forum easier to read on mobile devices. Heck, small businesses get local developers to make a site that will work on smaller screens?
How many thousands of people use this app? I personally don't know anything about the technical side. I do have a good ear for business and I'm hearing ching, ching.

You guys are so tough. I thought I was posting in the right section. I was not asking a question, expecting an answer. My intention was to get the attention of people who are experienced app developers. This was directed for someone who is scratching their head wondering, how can I make some serious money, Koush style!
I was sure, I wouldn't be the only one who felt the same about TapaTalk. That app practically has a monopoly of these forums. Having other people either support or disagree, might give developers an idea, if it's worth their time. I thought the Q & A, was for helping out or asking questions.
I was doing neither. I was stating a need in a question format to engage a developer to think of the possibilities. Quite frankly, I think the your threat of banning is harsh. (Sigh!) You might ban me yet!

OMG, the first rule is search before posting. That's the whole point of trying to get a developer to create a forum tool with a more effective search function! That's it you got me! I'll ban myself from posting here. You all are just too important!

You are in the wrong place. Developers here are not here to make money. They are here because they love what they do. Second tapatalk is not a bad app. I use forum runner myself. An app doest need to keep being updated. If it works then why update it?
Yes we are tough. This is the worlds leading DEVELOPMENT forum. Not the user forum alot of people think it is.
Awww...Justifi, you are only allowed to break the rules if you are regular or a mod. You should read the fine print on the back of the 3rd page on the rules. Everyone knows that developers that do all they can to break code and contact rules abide by the rules they make with a 2 strike your out mentality.
It's ok...next time you waiver they will fluff themselves up and give you an infraction, he might even explain why in a non robotic voice.

back on topic..
he is right..
Tapatalk search function sucks..
we give newies a hard time for posting the same question time and time again
in a rom yet..tapatalk is one of the prime tools used to access these same forums..
the XDA app has been crap for ages.. so I havent looked back at it.. maybe I need to..
But Search and Tapatalk before you post a question.. null and void..

I prob get a kick for this..
But how wrong is this quote..
There numerous developers of apps spamming across threads to
get their apps used so people will pay for them..
Try going in and bagging them for it and see how quick they flame you..
True most of the rom developers, themers do it for love..
But jezz to step up to the mark with this one has go it to take the cake..

Zelendel, you have been around for a while..so we both know there are a lot of great minds at work on here ..
not driven by any dallor value..Not debateable..
But the facts of this thread is to open debate that maybe' just maybe...
the main mobile forum readers used at present are not as good as they are cracked to be.
tapatalk and even the xda website search functions are not well designed..
They both lead to complancy by posters both mobile and online..
And there is room for improvement..
If this comes from a $$$ driven developer then so be it.. if he had restated it as a bounty..(monetary incentive) I am sure you wouldn't take offence to this
Back to topic, As an example of a good search function on a forum site is on
Hotcopper.com.au,
its a stock site but the accuracy and narrow searches allowed make it a breeze to find current and past posts on topic, stocks, or posters
This should be compared to what is available on xda to see if there could be improvements made..
Also xda could ask the tapatalk developers ever so nicely to look into beefing up their search function..
As you have suggested one to use, I should have a look at it..
I like the mikmik forum reader but as its just linked into theirs at the moment I don't know if they bigger plans for it..

The same place we were when it was mostly developers on this site. Remember that XDA has been around long before most users even knew what a smartphone was.
As for the bounty. XDA doesnt like bounty threads.
Check my Sig "noobs best friend" for a search plug in for FF or IE browsers.
As for my comment about being here for the money. This is one of the biggest problems as of late. XDA was made to share info and to help others to learn to do things on their own. As of late too many people are trying to make money using XDA. This is not what we are here for nor is it allowed.
There are plenty of how tos floating around and if the current Forum apps dont do what you want then by all means dig in and learn and make one up. Not only will it be a great learning tool. But you may find that it is fun and become a famous developer. This is what we are here for.

I don't think there is anything wrong with making money from what you love to do. Most people strive for that. I wasn't suggesting that someone open up shop in XDA. We all have to learn from somewhere.

I gotta admit z, if I only read up to your first post, I would have had a whole different take on your comments then from this last post.
I have been trying make my own themes, mods and even write some apps. As a n00b to those areas, it is hard to find information at times, and this site *does* help with that. However, I would consider myself not a developer - far from it, but rather just a user. So this site *is* for users too, as they use what others have posted to possibly become devs/themers themselves someday. This site can really be a sort of school for those interested.
So I'm glad you clarified the earlier remark.

Yeah I can seem to come across a bit harsh at times. I dont mean to be. IT is just soo many people come to XDA wanting to be spoon fed and that is not what we are here for. We are here to help people learn and to become developers themselfs. That is what a developers site is. A great place to learn.
So again sorry if I seem a bit harsh at times.

For those that go deeper and deeper into things...XDA is great..
This age of computing so far has allowed a break away from the locked in
Software systems that we were forced into since really MS took over DOS with windows front ends
I won't even go into apple o/s speak..
Openware/shareware as the apps market now could be termed allows for us the end users direct input
With the developers to push for better products..thus XDA is the medium that brings the two together..
Like it or not at the moment its the worlds premier focal point for this..
So I understand how the purists must be shaking their heads..
Sad but true a lot of talented developers are going back underground, to less known parts of the web to cook
So then it leaves XDA holding the front so to speak..
Its all good and a big thanks to the mods for keeping it semi under control..
Its a jungle out there...

Fish, "Z", and "Dg",
I agree with all of your most recent post. Now that, I've cooled off a bit . It's also known that techies as whole are not famous for great people skills. This forum is and should be a great place to learn. For the sake of encouraging more people to try to become developers or better developers, XDA could practice a "firm" tolerance. The default attitude should be to guide people to where they need to be, without flaming or threats of banishment right out the gate. IMO, it doesn't feel like that. To make mistakes is part of the learning process.

then you need to learn to be more specific and yes I remember when I was a newbie but I never posted stupid questions... I poured over literally thousands of posts... I just bought my SGS2 a couple of weeks ago, and used it completely stock for a week before even flashing it with anything.
So the fact the OP is new DOES NOT excuse him/her from the same rules I adhered to or the same rules the more experienced developers adhere to. Much less a thread on how to root when it's a sticky. and baby sitters such as yourself are just as much to blame as people such as the OP because you give them what they want without any effort on their behalf, now that person will post each time they get a bug up their tail because those like you allow them to.
So if my rant can keep curve the behavior of just one newb then I am more than willing to keep ranting at all the stupid and unneeded new threads that come up, but I will never clog nor rant a reasonable question or well maintained thread.
the way i see it, it someones stuck an they ask a question its good to help them, especially if theyve tried and couldnt find anything. the search bar on here is useless even when being specific, av seen plenty of users say the same about it. n does it really affect you in any way if someone posts a question that may or not have been answered, no it doesnt so its not a massive deal. also some people havent got the time to go through thousands of posts looking for an answer that may or not be there. am not wana get into a big debate with you, all am wanting to say is there is no reason to be so rude. this is a forum at the end of the day, its for helping people.

as a matter of fact it affects me directly as does it affect you directly. If a user has no time to look for what they need, then they need not tinker with their phone, that' slike saying I don't have time to learn to drive, but I need a car to get where I'm going, the logic isn't worth the time used to think it up. And posts such as these are what make the search function on any forum hard to provide relevant material because of all the junk that is allowed to be posted. and this is xda, which is for developers essentially, and the best devs are leaving in droves because of complacency such as yours to allow noobs that have no business posting needless threads, much less owning device that DOES need time to research before being modified.
and I can go on and on and on and on, there is ZERO reason to tolerate half thought out post from newbies just because they are too lazy or don't have the time to look through the information that others like theirselves post.. if there were hardfist rules then the forum would not be clogged with useless posts and thus no need for my rant
right mabye you have a valid point, but is there any reason to be so rude to everyone? also just say the OP had tried searching here but couldnt find anything because of all the useless threads on here, whats he meant to do then? after all its not really his fault theres loads of pointless threads on here because hes a newbie. the only option left is to post a new thread, or go without an answer.

keep searching until he finds it because posting a new thread is the very reason we have all the clutter. if he has no time to keep searching then he shouldn't fathom modifying his device, it's as simple as that.
yeah fair enough but what if the answer hes searching for isnt there? cus am sure at somepoint there will be valid questions unanswered. and if newbies do post pointless threads then you could state to them that they should be searching etc without being rude about it all.

I stated VERY clearly a couple of responses ago that I will never rant on a valid thread and will do my best to help the OP. I have never been rude to anyone that honestly NEEDED a hand, but I will flame anyone for stupid posting. Because you are completely right, how can you find the information if it's not there? BUT if the information is there, AND in a sticky, then there is no excuse for the laziness.
AND I did make the statement a few posts up that I would not rant or be rude to someone that needed the help. I was very clear.
yeah i know but what if the newbie has seached and cant find the answer, even if it is a pointless question, surley he has a right to ask the question without getting flamed. if hes a newbie he wont know what questions will have been answered n whats not. he wont know hes posting an answered question because hes tried to find the answer and couldnt. i dont want to argue with you but personally i like to be polite to people and manners go a long way. we just see it different. a can see your point of veiw about it getting cluttered but newbies dont really know any better so you should mabye cut them some slack

cutting them some slack just makes the problem worse. if the answer is there these is ZERO justification for the new post. If the answer is NOT there by some chance, there is ZERO justification for me to be rude to them and I will dedicate myself to help them find an answer, but if it's in plain sight, I will also dedicate myself to trying to make sure they think twice about not looking for their answer. such as this thread, does the OP think they are one of few that wants to root his/her phone and that's its done so little that the answer is not in plain sight? that's the only logic that fits into your argument, other than just flat out laziness.
THERE is no justification for being polite to those who are lazy and want spoon fed answers, that is one of the largest reasons many forums getting clogged so quickly
my arguement wasnt defending lazy people, its just saying to not to be rude to everyone who posts a new question, especially those who have tried but failed to find an answer

and my argument is against those that post new threads to answers that are there in plain sight... how many rooting threads are started everyday just like this one, I lose count... how many threads are started everyday about someone looking for stock firmware, I lose. how many threads are started everyday about now being able to download from a site that has been taken down, I lose count. and it goes on and on and on and on. Sadly you are not getting what am saying, IF it's a valid question, I will be one of the first to help, if's it's a useless thread I will be the first to rant

[CM9 RC1] How to install

Hi guys I haven't found a topic yet where to find an installation guide for the first release candidate of CM9
I'm new to roms installation and I was looking for a detailed guide or someone that explain me how to...
I'm running a stock kernel, a stock rooted rom (ics 4.0.3 xwlp7) and I haven't installed the Cwm I have it in the internal storage memory and I have to flash it every time I need to use it
That's all
My questions are:
I need a particular kernel? How to change it?
I need Cwm installed or I can leave it like it is now?
I need doing or I can just flash it from the device?
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Well, I think if you can't figure out the answers using the search function, and opening a thread for this in the original development section it would be better not to install CM9...
Have you even tried to Google that? C'mon, there are so many guides out there! Don't be that lazy! Oh, and next time write in the right section.

Read and figure it out on your own. If you don't, you're going to be dependent on other people the whole time you do anything to your device. It's your device, do some research on your own.

A PERSON THAT NEED HELP? I DON'T KNOW YOU BUT MAYBE SOMETHIMES U NEEDED
A PERSON THAT HELP OTHERS? CLEARLY NOT.
I'VE DONE IT BY MYSELF, I FOLLOWED A GUIDE I FOUND REALLY CLEAR,

THANKS A LOT,
MOST OF YOU HAS BEEN ESSENTIAL,
JUST A THING:
IS A COMMUNITY OF ANDROID USERS? YES YOU CAN THINK AT IT AS A COMMUNITY
IN A COMMUNITY, THERE ARE PEOPLES WHO CAN HELP AND PEOPLES THAT NEEDS HELP?
YES
WICH OF THE TWO YOU ARE?
A PERSON THAT NEED HELP? I DON'T KNOW YOU BUT MAYBE SOMETHIMES U NEEDED
A PERSON THAT HELP OTHERS? CLEARLY NOT.
I'VE DONE IT BY MYSELF, I FOLLOWED A GUIDE I FOUND REALLY CLEAR,
IT HAS BEEN QUITE SIMPLE? YES
THANKS TO THAT PERSON
WHEN I CAN I ALWAYS GIVE HELP, THATS WHAT WE SHOULD DO

Typing in all caps is not helping you get your point across.
This is a community, yes. But it's supposed to be a community of developers and hackers. Or at the very least, people who come here wanting to research and learn. But since everyone and their mother now joins and expects to have information spoon-fed to them, it's become a community, as you said, of "users"; i.e. people who simply use.
My point - the information you were seeking could have been found with a search. Rule #1 of the forum rules is:
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.

Hell, the instructions for installing CM9 are - surprise, surprise, in the CM9 thread. The same thread that had links to download it. You clearly were able to find it to download it, so did you just skip over the instructions on how to flash?
Give this a read.
Writing in caps doesn't solve anything, you were told what you should have been told, not to discourage you but to save you bricking your phone.
If you can't read few stickies, can't read few threads, that's what you will get.
Read them, than ask and you will be surprised how many will actually help you.
i was not doing controversy, caps was not intended (working i have to use it)
I was just saying that if someone needs help you could at least direct it in the right direction, instead of always criticizing that's all I know how to use the "search" but obviously I did not have any clear answers to my questions that's why I opened a topic in hopes of getting answers. I've had no answers, I had to assume and tests.
fortunally everything went well
Its suppose to be a community of android developers (note: The name of this website!!!)
No one is required to help another person, they choose to help. Some people were nice enough to post guides, faq and etc. The majority of all questions or problems asked has an answer or solution posted. It is the responsibility of the user to search and read them.
Any new users should read the stickies FIRST before posting. Every one of your questions has answers in the stickies. If people dont bother reading guides and faqs, they have a higher chance of ruining their phone.
As you said, there was a guide, you followed it and solved it yourself. Why didnt you simply search for it, BEFORE you posted this.

A lot of backups..

SOLVED..How do i safely go back thru my backups? I have all of padawan series plus FJs. Beem running FJs but would like to go back to the others and check them out then come back to Flappjaxx. Thanks..

Wipe as you would normally for installing a new ROM(this is considered optional). Then select "restore" instead of " install". Chose your backup.
Please please please at least attempt to research before posting!!!!

So... I have read how to backup, wipe, check md5 of backups and downloads, install rom, download and install updates and new kernels, modems and apks and donate to 2 devs. But my mistake was to ask a question in the Q&A section. My bad. Wont happen again..

OP ...
It's also a very good idea to wipe the system when setting up for a restore.
New roms will often wipe the system for you, but a restore generally will not.
Just a tip for clean restores.
And regarding the jab about posting.....
The forum is overflowing with new threads asking the same questions repeatedly.
It takes up so much space, that navigation becomes very difficult, and it detracts users when searching for information in the open forums.
As mentioned above, a quick search would have given you the answer to your question.
It certainly does not mean that we don't want to help, it just means that your answer is likely waiting in a quick search, rather than posting a repeat thread that takes up much needed space.
No hard feelings here, and happy flashing ....g

almost makes you wish they would enact some sort of rule that forces anyone with <10 posts to prove that they know how to search on this forum...and then the sarcasm about how he already knew everything that was presented to him...just too much..
Noobs just don't understand that this is NOT an "instructional forum", it is a DEVELOPMENT forum, meant for experienced phone developers, NOT for Noobs that break their phones because they don't know WTF they are doing...
I thought i was up out of the dev part of the forums into the noob q&a. My apologies to all. And thank you gregsarg and mojoe for answers. I WILL try to find answers by searching.

Yeah your right. I dont know much but i do search but when searching from phone its hard to get the answers sometimes. Seems like if you have enough posts you can ask about anything and get away with it. With a low number not so much.. Right?

No....
There are no exemptions based on post count or self-imposed status here.
Post count means nothing, as anyone can post, regardless of the topic. (good or bad)(users just fail to read the rules)
The problems arise when the first rule of XDA is broken. and that of course, is to search before posting. Bandwidth and server space is not cheap, and this is ultimately a development site, not a nursery for people to learn how to boot into download mode etc. Those questions were answered a year ago when this device hit the shelves.
And as I mentioned above, the multi-QA threads covering the site, will bury the threads that contain the help users need to get answers.
It's the self-feeding effect, and it log jams the site something aweful. So when a search is conducted, the only results that come back are threads asking repeat questions, and no answers. (Make sense? ) And we are left with even more threads stating..."I searched, but I cant find it"...
And thats no lie under those conditions. So you see, that is why Senior members will jump on newer users to search first, rather than post a repeat thread. It often avoids the domino effect, leaving the "solved" threads visible to help people out.
I am simply a user who chooses to stay and help others avoid costly mistakes, using the knowledge I've gained here. I started on this site after reading every thread on the device I used at the time. And did not post unless it was an absolute emergency. (never really had any of those).
Soon after, I began to help others with basic questions, and gathered up a sizable number of posts through helping and giving back for the amazing work freely offered here.
Honestly, dont be afraid to post, just make sure you have exhausted the search method to the best of the site's ability to give you answers.
and after that, let us know you need a hand.
Too easy, and we will help you any way we can.....g
OK. Thanks. Great way of explaining the system and situation..Thanks Again

It's a waste of time to spend 2 years on a website, gaining knowledge about devices, and do nothing with that knowledge.
I decided after hard bricking a new phone that was entrusted to me, that I'd study, give back, and save folks the trouble if possible.
I'm not at the development level, but I can pretty much dial in the issues people are having by sight.
I miss a few here and there, (old guy )...but for the most part I get the device going again.
I tell all users, especially new users, to read every part of the mods they attempt, then read it again.
Android is all about comprehensive understanding of the processes at work.
And it takes years to master. (I'm not a master)...And the time spent by our talented developers is wasted if folks won't read and learn.
Hundreds, even thousands of hours are freely given to us by them, in the form of roms, tweaks, and fixes....all free.
We owe them the respect to read and comprehend the offerings they provide.
And a little beer money sent their way never hurts either.
Thank you for the kind words....as they make the time spent here, much more pleasurable.
And if you don't want to post a question in the open forum, just PM me...
I'll do my best to help, and if I can't answer the question, I'll find someone for you that can.
We succeed by learning and giving back to the community...
Words we all should strive to live by here ....g

I'm sorry you feel that way. It's possible you've posted a question that noone has an answer to. It's also possible that you've posted a question that has been beat to death, as in answered numerous times. There are other possibilities, but you get my point I hope.
Some questions get answered rather quickly and others don't. That's the way it goes. And just for an example, I get ignored too. I've forwarded an application for someone that's applying for RC title. In most cases those get answered rather quickly. I made my request a week ago, no response, but others who have made nominations after me have had their nominations dealt with. So you see, this isn't happening to just you. Patience
I get the feeling it's because you ask things that we've answered countless times. Maybe you should watch this, it's extremely comprehensive and helps younger users.

Well I took the liberty into looking at what questions this guy asked. From what I've found, your questions were answered in the Original Post. you basically asked "are you sure i can root my phone using this method" in a thread that has a tutorial to rooting all the l9 varients. Why would you ask such a thing?
Then you ask "do i install this recovery for a locked bootloader" and you have a LINK to the thread that says LOCKED BL recovery......
also you posted these "questions" like a couple days ago, not even a week. People have family and friends. staying on XDA answering questions is not what they do for a living.
Whenever I have a question I use the search to see if it's been asked before.
