Any dev willing to tackle? - AT&T LG Optimus G

I've seen some work going on here with CM 10.1, since the process of porting Ubuntu Touch is supposed to be the same (according to them) I figured I'd drop the link and hopefully gather some support for some work on a Ubuntu Touch Rom.
Here's the XDA article http://www.xda-developers.com/android/porting-ubuntu-touch-is-as-simple-as-building-cm/
Ubuntu Porting directions https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
I'm no dev by any means but I can help with some of my remedial skills if necessary.

Sounds like a fun project, just started working on it. I also recommend you read this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/ReleaseNotes
Keep in mind that it has no CDMA support at all(No data, calling, sms),has poor wifi support, and looking at the nexus 4 bugs; requires replacing the battery if it dies.

would be awesome but without having cdma its a bust for me i wouldn't use it... now on my tablet that is wi-fi only most definitely

A rom with no cdma support is like having a car without an engine, it's probably why a dev here hasn't picked it up yet either. But if someone does get it running, I'd play with it for like an hour and likely not touch it again.

This is exactly why I'm doing it, make a nandroid and call it a day.

Wrong forum, should be in Q/A

Isn't AT&T GSM? Why would CDMA matter for our device?

Ubuntu Touch porting guide

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Guide for porting Ubuntu touch has just been published. It uses CM 10.1 as base(drives and stuff) so since we have CM port for our devices it should be relatively easy to port Ubuntu touch to HTC Evo 3D
Let the porting begin
I'm going to go to my warehouse today and grab me my extra Evo, and the porting will begin.
I just installed linux, I'm going to see what I can do aswell

What's ubuntu?
Looks like every ones doing this
Running a vm right now and getting my sources
After reading this , I'm not that interest anymore to try Ubuntu touch.
I watch the video and assumed that all shown there is already working, now I'm a little disappointed.
But hopefully in time they'll make it better. This is a developer preview after all.

Yea, that's pretty disappointing.
As the saying goes, the demo is always better than the real thing.

Someone should actually do this : P I have my old evo 3d that I am not doing anything with and would at least like to try out Ubuntu since there is no dualboot yet for Nexus 4.
I'm partly through the porting. I've gotten quite a bit of bootloops, like, random ones. Sometimes the phone would boot up normally, then sometimes it will hang and then just go to a, what I call, recovery brick, in which I need to recover from it by running adb reboot. Once I get this all figured out, expect it to be available to CDMA users. I don't have a GSM 3vo, don't have the money for that! Hopefully I can get a friend of mine to donate to me for it, and I can work on that. I know for a fact that when I'm finished, the ROM will work with at least Virgin Mobile, I'll get my extra 3vo on Sprint for a month to see what I need to do, if anything to get it working through their network.

I would Love to give this a try when you get it done!
I would be more than willing to test this as well. As I foresee myself diving into Dev work for the EVO 3D. I'm learning so much from all yew awesome Developers here on XDA. I myself come from PC/Console modding/hacking/Overclocking & once I found XDA and bought an OV as my first smartphone I became hooked I love linux as its my goto OS so I would love to see this actually work!! If its based off 10.1 everything in theory should work except 3D...unless Canonical came up with a fix. Now that I think about it..if they did we could implement said fix into JB roms that have 3D borked. Sorry strayed from OP; I will test this for ya!!! CDMA EVO V 4g(3D) fully hacked down to HBoot S-off etc. Post a link or PM me
Bumping because I can
The beta's are now live, this includes GSM, texting and so forth. is someone already looking into this? I'm a GSM user so I will be looking into this for GSM user (looking into means private intrest, I won't be releasing anything to the community as of yet)
btw Im in no way a kernel developer so if someone is up to checking out the kernel stuff would be nice
As of the specs, we will be able to run it since this is from ubuntu themselfs:
Entry-level Ubuntu phones will require a 1Ghz Cortex A9 processor and between 512MB and 1GB of memory, while the high-end superphones that double as PCs will require a quad-core A9 or Intel Atom processor and at least 1GB RAM.
Note: These specs were found under the operators and OEMs section of canonicals website and may not reflect the requirements for installation on a android phone

Especially if it will work with Compiz....

I've ported it to the 3d just to see, evervolv also i believe ported it, but it is very pre-alpha. No cmda, no calls. texts, or data. It is a huge ram hog.
it runs a stripped down version of cm-10 as a base then you flash the ubuntu touch to the sd. Theres a ton of work to do to even make this an alpha. If you can read the porting guide is very easy to follow.
you can follow the progress of all the devices as they are updated here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices#Work_in_progress
The CDMA Evo will probably get the ROM first. Development on the GSM evo is very slow.
I doubt we'll see a stable Ubuntu for this phone for a while.
I would love to see this but I am also unsure if I want to leave the Google play store entirely

Cpu too slow imo

Quick question about Rom development.

Over the past couple weeks every waking moment of spare time I have had I have used reading any article, watching any movie, browsing any forum thread I have found on the topic of custom rom development and I think I'm getting close to where I can begin my first build. If any of the users here can point me to any helpful links to help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Now, onto my question. This is probably considered pure sacrilege but I was just curious on the matter. I was wondering, lets say I was wanting to port the new ToudhWiz over to our device would this be possible. If it is possible how difficult is it going to be and is it a project a beginner developer could ever hope to accomplish?
Onto my second question. I have been waiting ever since I got the DNA to see an Ubuntu Touch port for it and have got to the point where I don't believe I'm ever going to see it happen. Is this due to it being harder to build then lets say a AOSP based Rom or is it because not many people in our community here seem to care if it happens or not? The reason I'm asking is because after I get a couple Roms compiled from the simple FAQs I have been able to find and have figured out kind of what I'm doing I think I would like to try to port it over. Once again, ANY and all help is greatly appreciated, whether it's just links to other sites that has helped the developers here get to where they are or even someone wanting to help me learn personally. I have the upmost respect to all of the developers on this site and want to be able to consider myself among this elite group very soon. If I have posted this in the wrong place let the mods move it and let me know of my mistake.
Sincerely,
DrewHamm974
As someone who is fairly new to android / Rom development. Its something that takes a bit of time. I started small by just learning how to compile from source to figuring out how to get it set up to work on a device that already has support to eventually bringing roms to this device when they weren't supported.
I'm no expert but also knowing a programming language like C, C++, and Java will help.
Xda-university.com has some stuff on Rom development.
As for porting TW probably won't happen. Ububtu touch good luck... You will need either someone to do kernel work or learn how to dev a kernel first...

First off I would like to say thank you very much for answering my question. Honestly, I was hoping for an answer from you, Pio, Palmer, or amit_sen. I am currently running CyanFox and must say it is awesome. If I could be bold enough to ask, why would porting TouchWiz not work? Is it due to something about it being a proprietary rom or is it something in the source that won't compile for anything but a Galaxy phone. The reason I am asking is due to the fact if I'm not completely mistaken I saw a sense rom for either the S2 or S3 not long ago.
Now onto Ubuntu touch, I thought all you had to have to port it was a working CM 10.1 build to get it working. Also, is there anywhere besides XDA University you could send me to help learning Rom and/ or Kernel development. Once again I greatly appreciate you taking the time to answer my question I idolize any devs that are on here freely giving their time and hard work.

I would recommend learning how to build CM 10.2. Once you have a working build, figure out how to build AOKP (or any other ROM without official support).
After that, you will probably have new questions.
Thanks will definately do.

Touchwiz would be easy to get booting but almost everything would be broken. And because you can't actually compile touchwiz it makes fixing anything a giant pain. Ubuntu touch on the other hand would be relatively easy because you can compile it.

If I remember correctly, Ubuntu touch is typically based on the cm10.1 kernel, for whatever it's worth.

I plan on building and porting one of the 2 roms! Not both. I love both roms. Just maintaining both would be time consuming. I'd just like to no witch one people would be more interested in?

I understand he has a working ROM! But I read through the comments on his post. From what I understand he's not working on it anymore. Or he had a problem I forget. Also its very outdated!:d But if he begins to continue working on it, Ill go ahead and port Firefox OS.
Just an update guys! My i777's charger port F***ed up. I'm awaiting another, I'm going to replace it when it gets here(This Friday or next Monday hopefully.) I've set up my build environment, but as you no some crucial files needed to build UBUNTU TOUCH can only come from my phone Via adb! I know there's other ways of retrieving these files, I'm just to lazy! Anyways all I need it my phone back to life!!!!! Then I will begin building and porting UT to our i777. If I can't find a fix for what I'm taking as a BIG SCREW UP ON CANONICALS PART(Love ya Canonical!) regarding some Bugs or something not reading a locked SIM I guess. Ill go ahead and begin instead building and porting Firefox OS.
are you ok?

[Q] Porting android 4.4

Hello. Prompt, please, can I port android 4.4 (in this case CyanogenMod 11) in this manual ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/guide-cm11-how-to-build-cyanogenmod-11-t2515305 )? Is it even possible to port it, at least 4.0. Sorry for my bad English.
Can anyone try it?
No drivers. It is completely infeasible. Stop asking.

the problem is the HTC drivers, which cannot be ported from any other device. maybe there's something in the HP.

As silly as it may sound. I literally now have no use for my jetstream as I am fully fed up of the OS it has. I have it rooted and CWM 6.0 installed on it and flashed BMW Boy rom on it. At this point, I am willing to work with developers to come up with a custom rom for it. I will be more than happy to test it on my device if they need me to. Plus, I can provide any information needed about this device. I am getting into developing, so perhaps Jetstream could be used as an ultimate sacrifice lol.
Just rooted SGH-I317M (NOTE II-Rogers) and installed CM 11 Nightly on it. I refuse to go back to stock. Im loving my phone so much more.:good:
can we?
Is it possible to build the drivers from scratch? Even if it is not for free we can all pitch in and pay a developer. Hopefully HTC can help despite our many failed efforts. I am willing to pay to get this device up to date, it feels to wrong to let something so full of potential go to waste. Even today it still looks better than most tablets available. I love my jetstream !

Will do! Just talked to an HTC rep. She apologized for the lack of support and sent a ticket of the conversation to HTC in hopes of assistance. She is even going to try to talk to her higher ups and hope that they are generous! My hopes are not that high but i was really glad to talk to someone who was concerned with the matter. She could not even believe what i was telling her ( she never used honeycomb so i am guessing she was surprised with what we have to go through.) I hope 2014 will be different for the Jetstream. O and i never thanked you for your hard work so ill take the time now. Thank you for your assistance, it means a lot to me and the other people with the jetstream here at xda! Great work and an awesome rom!
