No need, just download "Portable WiFi Hotspot" which just toggles the built-in hotspot feature, without the subscription check.

Beans is a great rom if you like lots of options and customizations while not compromising on stock features.
Clean rom is an awesome stable and fast rom with the least amount of unnecessary stuff in it. Completely stock but with some nice little changes and features.
Both are awesome and you're likely to revert back to one of these after playing with the other ones. So set one up the way you like and make a nandroid
Backup of one of these so you'll have something stock to come back to.
Both have free tethering that you won't have to pay for.
I also recommend helium (premium) before you embark on your quest

Welcome, man!
Jelly Beans is very stable and with the best battery life I prefer.
CleanROM is also very stable but I would prefer more customization.
MeanBean is stable with a nice feature ZeroWakeUp, but Jelly Beans has better battery performance.
They all feel very close to stock ROM, so good choice if you prefer stock ROM feel.

I'm curious, this will still increase your billing based on your data consumption right?

Correct, it still counts towards your data allowance. If you have the share everything plan, that includes tethering anyways.

Rom recommendation for Note?

I know its personal preference but can I get some recommendations on roms for the note? Just curious what many people are using and what seems to be the preferred roms....
Thank u!

I'm also curious about finding the best ROM. I currently have a stock Galaxy Nexus, and I love that, so I'm looking for the best ROM for the Note that is as close to Stock Android as possible.
I really want to pick one up, but until there's a Clean, Non-"Samsung-y" ICS ROM, I'm holding off.
Any leads would be Very much appreciated.
Thanks.

If you want gingerbread this rom works fine with pretty much no bugs.

Your going to have to wait much longer before anything is released, we dont even have an official release of ICS yet, nor do we have any source code, and after CM gets around to releasing a first release, even longer (probably a month or two) before it is stable enough for daily use.

what did you do with your rooted phone?

so i rooted my phone with UCLE5 and put the Siyah v343 kernel. but now what? i spent the last 2 days researching to successfully do this for speed improvements and what not. but i dont really see any differences in speed, or any differences at all. any suggestions on what i can do now because my phone looks the exact same way as it did before the root or what did you guys do after a root to make it seem like i actually rooted the phone.

If you dial *6969# naked girls come to where you are..... You need to flash a CUSTOM ROM you're on a stock ICS ROM you need to read a lot more go to the DEV section those are all custom ROMS.... For an instant change go to the play store and install Apex launcher.

If you're on stock ics (the official release) and someone told u there are speed improvements they lied. Any custom rom easily blows stock out of the water. Stock ( even when rooted) is basically for people who want to play it safe and for things to just work. If u want customization and speed ur best bet is an AOSP based rom. Good luck. Happy flashing.

No issues with Battery life in all honesty. I can use for over 12 hours with constant use and it holds out without complaint. I couldn't say the same with the stock rom but I never really buy these handsets for stock use. I enjoy testing roms too much

hmm i was specifcally told not to flash AOSP roms . btw do you know if that will improve battery life as well. since i updated to official ICS from kies my battery dies really quick. quick meaning if i sleep with battery around 50-60%, i wake up after 7 or 8 hrs, and my battery is dead. im not sure exactly when it dies, but im pretty sure this is a flaw.

[Q] Just flashed JediX ROM and questions about other ROMS

Hello I just wanted to know if there was any way to change the ERI banner from the notification window the one that says "deviant development" its where it usually says Verizon Wireless..I came from a Galaxy Nexus and every ROM I flashed then gave an option to chnage this text but I can't find out how to.
I've searched the forums and couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thank you in advance.

If 3minit hasn't changed since I used my gnex you can do it on goodness. I know mikey replaced the carrier text with mean bean but you need to go in the system to change it. Clean i'm not sure, moon im not sure.

I get the best battery life on tweaked that's why it's my "daily driver" rom. I'd you were on the Galaxy nexus then do you remember the PBJ kernel? The tweaked rom is from the same developer, imnuts. So, for my phone at least, tweaked + PBJ had been the most stable/efficient setup for me.
Here's screen shots of just the status bar options in his "tsm parts" of the settings.... almost as much customization as we used to have on the gnex.

Life after Clean ROM

I was disappointed to read about Scott's decision to stop developing his CleanRom. I found it to be a great balance between TW and Google Edition.

If you're looking for a fantastic running ROM with the same odex'd stock feel go with synergy and odex it yourself.

So, is hyper where everyone is heading?
Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 2
yeah I'm still on 1.0 cause its the best battery life. I've tried 1.3 and 1.5R2 though not 1.6 or 1.6.5.
1.0 is still my DD. Smooth no lag (though i had no lag on stock) and everything worked with crazy battery life. I have all of the Zips DL so I'll always have the nandroids plus the zips. The battery life i got on 1.0 (.25% drain per hour idle and 6-7 hours on screen time) makes me not need to mess with other roms right now. Unfortunatley i was not getting the same battery life with the other versions of this rom.
Also unfortunate he closed the thread right away as we're unable to thank him for a great ROM. I wish him the best and hope whatever changed in his life is good or if not so good things improve for him. Thanks Scott

Not me, I like CleanRom, I've tried Hyperdrive and really like all it's features but I'm running CynogenMod. Why? Because it works on my phone and NO TouchWiz ROM I've tried does work properly with all my apps and I can't figure it out? Apps that ran just fine on my Galaxy S3 work perfectly on AOSP ROMs on the S4 but will not work on any TouchWiz ROM and I haven't the knowledge, time or inclination to trouble shoot TouchWiz so.... CyanogenMod.
I almost cried when I read that message. After having terrible lag issues with hyperdrive, it looks like synergy will be my next go to rom when the update comes out which I will like because it will have more features than CR did. I don't like anything crazy but some tweaks that scott doesn't offer in his stockish rom will be nice. I am going to miss him very much though. Great guy and great dev.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Lmao, I loled when I read this... Good stuff.
I am far from a dev, hell I've barely been using an android device for a month but, devs have such a thankless job/hobby. I am not aware of one that gets money for anything they do (short of "bounties") yet, get ridiculed when something they do may not work for someone.
I appreciate everything, would love to get into doing things like this just have no idea where to start. I wouldn't mind taking a crack at making my own ROM for personal use and if good enough, maybe public. I just have zero experience, lol

Thanks for the reply! I've been going through it. I am new to rooting and would want a nice ROM to go hand in hand with my Note. There are so many different ROMS making it very confusing! Is there a consensus on what the 'best' ROM is? Or could you explain to me the benefits of the one you are using and where I can get it? Thanks alot again.
You can get carbon under the Original Development Thread. It has had the least amount of reboots for me but there are many fine 4.2.2 ROMs offered here.
Asking for the "best" can start a flaming thread, since its very much a personal choice.

Ure most likely to get reboots in all 4.2.2 roms n most likely camera issues...until they release an official stable 4.2.2 rom then that'll be the rom u are looking for..to get less reboots I turn profiles off in settings n disable hw hardware layout...try that with any rom see what happens...

Best advice........read read read
As suggested by others look at development. It depends what YOU want or are looking for. Many 4.2 have issues. Mainly reboots. Some flicker in screen.
What i do is find rom that looks interesting in features to me. Then i go to end of thread and read backwards. Lets me know the more recent issues and if there are fixes or tweaks to compensate.
Lots of bells and whistles in 4.2 but sometimes we sacrifice stability.
Your choice........good luck and go slow.

In my own experience the most stable i717 4.2.2 rom is sons of android build 4, all other 4.2.2 roms I've tried where Awful for hot reboots and screen flickering. As always, make sure you do a full wipe before installing anything, happy flashing!

CyanogenMod 10.1.2 has been the smoothest ROM for me, with the best battery life. I use SD-Booster, Autokiller, and Greenify (apps) as well, which give me super speed, super smoothness, and eternal battery life.
Since this change, not a single reboot, screen flicker, or other Android 4.2 issue.
