Anyone have a good way of managing their contacts on your phone while switching Roms. I have them syncing with Google, Facebook and Linkedin, but every time I wipe and change Roms I have to manually go through and join contacts for all of the contacts that decided not to join with the Facebook or Linkedin contact.
I have tried backing up the contacts with a random app on the Marketplace, but I end up with a ton of duplicates.

The only way I have found is to sync everything, then use ContactAnalyser2 from the market to merge them.
However you must also be aware that having data syncing from a lot of different places will slow your phone down massively and even cause the overheating problem mentioned in other threads.
I haven't found an MSN client to date that will sync. There is a Messenger Beta all doing the rounds but I don't know if that syncs either as it's in Chinese!

I do have the same issue with confusion and the different names, I'd like to suggest to Add Field as Nickname and put the name that matches the Social Network's one ... I think it might work.
Any other ideas to sort this out please elaborate.
I've done a weird route to organize my social phonebook, after some frustration with Yahoo contacts integration (you can't delete a yahoo contact through the phone for instance!). I went to my Yahoo page on PC and noticed they also sync the contacts with facebook or gmail, and it's a bit easier to organize and merge accounts through there, then i got back to my phone and updated contacts from yahoo and it's all looking nice.
I can't find out how to sync only certain gmail contacts groups on my new Atrix. Is it even possible?. It's simple on the captivate contacts app!
Having same problem with gmail group contacts. Can't sync them to my Atrix. I've read on other forums that others are having the same problem. Some people are suggesting it is an a problem specific to the Atrix.
The best solution I've found is to install Contact GroupU from the Market. It synced my gmail group contacts okay, but I will say when I look under "All Contacts" in Contact GroupU, things get a little weird (a lot of repeats). Also, if I try to put a contact from my phone's contacts into a GroupU group, it does not seem to sync back to gmail group contacts. So it hasn't been perfect, but for me it is better than not having the groups at all.
It would seem that my phone has synced just about 90% of my facebook contacts. There are a few contacts on my google contacts I'd like to like to their facebook profile but when I look to join them, the facebook contact doesn't show up. This isn't the case with ALL the contacts, just seems to be a handful. Any suggestions?
i had this same issue. i had to goto my contacts, hit edit, then select "join contacts" and then select the FB contact you wanted to merge with the phone book contact. you may need to display both phone (google contacts) and FB contacts first. from there, its just a matter of doing the legwork.
is there a way to permanently link my facebook contacts to google contacs; It's annoying every time i flash a new rom my contacts get restored from google but i have to re-link them with my facebook contacts to get their pic and email

You can try this: Sync your contacts with FB and Google. Go to your contacts app. Make sure the display options are such that both FB & Google contacts are displayed. Merge possible duplicates. Once all of this is done. From the contacts menu, export the contacts to SD card.
Now you've the contacts backup file which contains numbers, emails plus the the display pictures. After flashing new ROM, just import from this file.

My phone started behaving weird.. it keeps switching to vibrate by itself. I'm not sure yet whats causing this but I searched around and I found that it might be caused be some app. So I'm thinking about restoring factory settings, but I want to keep my contacts intact.
The thing about my contacts is that I spent a lot of time joining people's phone numbers with emails, Facebook accounts.. etc.. I tried to export a backup using Contacts app but it said some info fields might be lost. So I'm wondering if there is a way to keep contacts as s after resetting the device.

Go into Settings > Accounts and make sure all of the ones you have contacts with are synced and if you have some that are just stored on the phone only, make sure to sync to your Google account.
Will this keep Facebook, and other profiles linked to their contacts in the contact app?
Also, I deleted some Facebook contacts from my contacts app. If I synced Facebook app, will this remove the contacts from my Facebook account,? or re-adding them again to the contact app?

When you install the Facebook app back to your phone after factory reset and login. It will ask you to sync your contacts with the Facebook Profiles. In other words. This will link your contacts with the Facebook profiles on your friends list. And no it will not remove the contacts from your Facebook.

But note that when I installed fb app and synced contacts with the fb profiles, most profiles (I believe the ones that had no phone number) were not linked to contacts. I had to use the Join feature in Contacts app to link them one by one. I wouldn't have to do it again, would I?

Yes you would they don't save joined. Most just in case you don't install one of the apps again.
There is no way to do what your looking to do without redoing them.
