Greetings,
around 6h ago my S3 (CM 10.1 nightly) began crashing. In the beginning i thought it was some error with cm and downloaded the new nightly but the frequency of the crashes got worse and now i cant even boot to cwm because as soon as the cwm screen appears it crashes again.
Has anyone an idea what i could do?
what's your definition of a crash?
well you could flash a full firmware I guess that should solve it.
Thanks for the answers,
with crashing i mean that it's rebooting instantly as soon as the cwm screen appears.
How can i flash a new firmware? If i want to use the download mode as soon as i press volume up the battery loading symbol comes again
Flash a different CWM and Root .

I flashed the latest builds from both Coffebeans - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547778 and Pershoot - http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm9/p4wifi/ and I'm having the same issue with both of them. The problem is my Tab will randomly reboot then get stuck on the boot animation and just sit there forever. It's already happened twice now where my Tab rebooted sometime at night and sat at the boot animation until the battery was dead. I did do a full wipe before flashing.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Thanks.
i've ran both of those without any problems. did you come from another custom rom or from stock firmware?

I came from Task650's version 14, but I've been flashing the CM9 KANGs for a while and haven't had this issue.
i have had some strange reboots...but never gotten stuck on the boot animation like that..thats the bad part about not having a battery to yank unfortunately
Sent from a Gtab 10.1 running Build 30
Well whenever I can't get something to work right, I Odin stock firmware on it and restart the custom rom process from scratch. Having a clean slate is time consuming and might not even be necessary but it's the only full proof way I can get things to work.
I wiped everything and also formatted /system in CWM and then flashed Coffeebeans latest build from 4/8. I haven't had the reboot and stuck boot animation issue, but now I'm having an issue where every time I charge the tab fully it won't wake up. I have to hold the power button to reboot it. It seems like it's the deep sleep issue, but it's been fine leaving it overnight as long as it's not connected to the charger.
Hey,
since about two weeks my i9300 keeps hanging/rebooting randomly. Today it crashed thrice after about one minute after rebooting but the song that was currently playing finished. Just after that, it hang and did nothing. When the phone hangs all I can do is manually force it to reboot. Sometimes it just reboots out of nowhere. This happens mostly when locked and not being used. The logcat is pastebin.com/QdjjrJMT and the dmesg is pastebin.com/bXDJ0fXK Anything that I can do?
Thanks in advance.

Had the same problem weeks before and solved it with another kernel type. Here are many on the board that are worth to give a try
I have three new logs (connected wirelessly to the device for debugging as it never seems to crash when connected via USB) and left adb logcat running until the device crashed, maybe they help:
knubbig.de/f/log.txt
knubbig.de/f/log2.txt
knubbig.de/f/log3.txt
Am not allowed to post links, sorry.
Would be nice if I could keep everything I have and just solve the problem. Thanks.
I have the same problem for a week now. Was on CM 10.1 nightly 14/03/2013. Complete reinstall and wipe didn´t help.
On Saturday i had 15 freezes/reboots in a row...
Changed yesterday to ParanoidAndroid 3.1 and so far only two freezes this morning. I´m still wondering if it´s the hardware or the software...
freeze
I am having the same problem for 4 days. I used mega wipe , installed 5-6 custom roms but it still freezes and today it started to reboot randomly.
8 reboots/freezes this morning. Other customs doesn´t make it better.
I´m trying a stock rom now and putting it back to warranty status.
I think (at least it seems) I solved it by going back to stock, then re-rooting via cf-auto-root and then installing cm again. I got it to the state i had 24 hours ago with crashes only last evening and it hasn't crashed since.
SGS3 GT-I9300 random reboot all the time, no complete boot.

Hi folks.
My SGS3 had a workshop replacing the motherboard some 2 weeks ago, right the way i installed root and setup "Siyah-s3-v1.8.9-CWM" With UltimaRom v.10 on primary rom, "FoxHound_Rising_2.3_Full-Essential_JellyBean" on the second rom.
This worked great for about a week, then the phone out of the blue starts rebooting all the time, for hours and hours or until it runs out of battery.
No Stock recover through Kies can solve the problem With reboot.
Try to reflash With various roms through Odin With, Aroma installer starts, let me choose the options best suited for XELLA build and after aroma setups is finished and the phone goes on With rom setup, after 2sek or when setup starts or try to start it goes to blackscreen and setup dies.
Have tried many kernels and roms, but the Device is dead.
Any ideas on where to start looking?
Thanks a lot for Your time

Since I flashed the stock rom yesterday, my problems are also gone. I´m trying today a custom rom again.
Stock rom seems to be solving this issue.

I had the same issue. At first I thought it was the SDS fix, and then it stopped right out of the blue. I'd suggest just using it for another week or two. If it doesn't stop, let us know and then we can maybe find a solution.
Usually it's caused by the phone calling a memory block which is faulty, the fix then tells the phone to stop and it crashes, to save it from dying.

It´s not as simple as you say. Stock is running fine. But whenever I flash a custom rom, I get random freezes after some time.
But only a few freezes, not nearly as many as before...
So, the freezes are now gone since six days. Flashed a stock rom 3 times in a row.
It´s running fine like before, and i´m gonna stay with stock rom for a few days more to be sure.
Hello,
since yesterday my Galaxy S2 (summer 2011) started to act wierdly and I am trying to figure out what is the problem.
I was running the latest Sentinel ROM, and I found it "freezed". So I forced restart long pressing the power button. After the restart, I found it freezed again after some (short) time. It also freeze on the boot process.
Apparently in a random way.
So I tried from recovery a factory reset, full wipe, and reinstalling the ROM. Problem still present.
Today I tried logging with ADB logcat, but I can't figure out the issue from the log. I thought a problem with Mali driver shipped with the ROM, but actually it freezes sometime also on boot (so before loading the drivers)
I tried then to flash back the Samsumg original ROM (JB 4.1.2), which apllied nicely. However it freezes also with Sammie's ROM. Also on boot. By example I one time I got the black screen with the writing "Samsung Galaxy GT-9100" getting grey, with some horizonatl black lines. So frozen.
Flashed again with ODIN, again nicely, but it keeps on freezing on boot.
I am clueless. Could it be some issue with the battery? (it's the original, never replaced)
Any help or suggestion appreciated
Thanks
Update:
I tried to flash it back to GingerBread stock by Samsung with Odin. Applied nicely.
It still keeps on randomly hanging :-|
Hi to everyone..well..as the title says my phone keeps freezing after seconds it boots. i was on PA v3.6 and decided to flash the newest release so i did.. after that it's been only problems. i did the wipes, but it constantly freezes.. so i decided to go back to stock and try again.. so i did with odin, but it keeps freezing even when the first settings pops out. i don't even install any apps. it just freeze, even if i reboot the phone and leave it to deep sleep i find myself with the same problem. i've been flashing custom roms since i bought the galaxy s1 and i never had any problems. i tried the dummy file thing but it keeps happening. does anybody knows how can i fix this?
Freezing is usually the memory controller working around bad memory blocks. Try reading the 'unusual freezing' thread in the general forum.
This is a year-old Galaxy S3 i9300 (Intl) which came with a stock 4.something, which I replaced after a couple of months with CM10. After that, I've tried plenty of different ROMs, but I mostly stuck with CM. There were often problems with some apps FCing and plenty of random reboots, but it was still mostly usable. Until recently, that is.
After a few more updates with the more recent CM11 builds, the phone just went into this boot loop that seems to trigger around the 1 minute mark regardless of what mode the phone is in. In most cases it's the CM11 boot animation, but even if I manage to get it into recovery or download mode, it still reboots. As a result, I'm unable to perform any repair via recovery (no fix permissions or wipe) and I can't get it to stay in download mode to send a different image.
Is this a hardware issue or something that can be fixed via software?

If it reboots in recovery and download mode then it sounds like a hardware issue to me most probably your power button is the cause.

I guess :-/
I did read several other boot loop issue posts, but most of them only reboot when the OS is booting, not recovery or download. The ones that have a 'global' boot loop issue are usually much shorter (3 sec or so) and can sometimes get it to stay by removing the memory card or just keeping it off for 5-10 minutes. None of thes things worked for me.
I have three Samsung phones with hardware issues - the i9300, the i9250 and the i9020 - which I'll take to the service center now.
