Read the link I posted. There is a guide for S-on kernel flashing included as part of it. Easiest thing right now would be to flash a ROM like MeanBean or Viper. Both have S-on kernel installers-just read the instructions for whatever ROM you install.
I highly suggest getting S-off by the way.

Best thing to do is read the sticky threads. No offense but you don't seem to know much about what your doing. There's a while lot of great info in those threads.

Save yourself a lot of headache, obtain s-off via the Moonshine method, and then you don't have to worry about flashing kernels. As long as you have a Windows PC, a working ADB environment, and the original HTC cable, you can get s-off very easy now. Having a rooted Evo with s-on is like having an R8 with a civic engine.

AOSP ROMs wont boot on hboot 1.4. youd have to get S-Off and downgrade. Its probably not booting cuz you didnt turn smart flash on 4ext reccovery. If you dont have the recovery install it. 4ext.net Acheiving s-off is easy. Use the wire trick.

No problem. If you want to use the latest ICS kernel that you would want to stay on 1.58. If you want AOSP ROMs then you would have to downgrade to 1.4. If you want to downgrade you are going to have to get s-off.

Just to clarify a typo, you need a non 1.58 hboot to boot aosp jb ROMs. I recommend 1.4 as Kevin does. Have you seen ramjet's easy guide to s-off?

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure about 1.50. I know it works for 1.4 Revolutionary, so I'd just go with that one.

That depends on what ROM you want to run. Some current Sense ROM's like Viper3D and Cool ICS won't boot without the 1.58 or JuopunutBear 1.58.5858 hboot installed.

I went s-on since day one after I got bored of stock and have never had any problems Tbh, I almost pity all the poor s-off folks who were too terrified to take the ota All it takes is a couple extra steps to flash anything and its been worth it so far. I preordered so I had plenty of chances to S-Off early on but I don't regret it at all.

Another con is you can't update your firmware unless you relock and take the OTA or hope a recovery flashable zip comes along
So if your hboot was s-off, how is it any different than s-on? You still have to run the RUU to go back to stock then get the OTA right? Or are you talking about some other OTA?

There are Firmware zips available right now for 3.15 that can be flashed in the bootloader but you must be S-OFF to flash them.Just flash and everything is updated except hboot, kernel, and stock recovery.
Flashing those firmwares is the same as taking the OTA except for what I mentioned above

Ugh - took the OTA on an HTCdev unlocked boot loader and now it seems hboot 2.09 locks down the systems (can't update supersu binary, they locked down /system?). Now on viperboy stock rooted rom...
Hopefully they come out with an s-off technique for 2.09, need to be able to "hide" supersu/root binaries on my device...
Any news on s-off for hboot 2.09?
Hi, I'm am a noob, I got the JB update, then decided to root my phone. I am unlocked and rooted. I would like to turn s-off but my hboot is 2.09.
I am trying to flash mean bean and every time it gets to around 25%, my phone reboots. I am using twrp to try flashing it.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or what I need to do?
Thanks again.
Hey people. I'm having a hard time flashing roms on my 4GLTE. Ill wipe, factory reset and wipe the cache but when I install the Rom it doesn't do anything. I've only been able to flash 2 roms the stock with goodies rom and the viper rom. And ideas on what's going on or help? Thanks

Follow the tutorials under General and start with posting details such as current specs, SON, SOFF, Hboot etc., then which ROMs you have tried and steps you have done to attempt installing them.
The more details you give the more XDA can help.
Please give us some more information. Are you s-off? Are you on the most recent firmware? Have you updated your touch panel driver? What do you mean by "nothing happens"? Are you getting boot loops or is the phone not booting at all or is the touch panel unresponsive?

Sorry I'm on S-On I do have the latest hboot. I've pretty much tried every updated Rom in the forum. It will either 1, stay on the HTC screen, 2 it will boot loop or 3 ill just have a black screen where ill have to restart back into recovery and go back to my previous backup. I have the Viper Rom right now. I can try to attach a screen shot of the roms I've downloaded and all of them gave me 1 of those 3 problems except viper and the stock with goodies Rom

You can go to the thread and download the kernel and the scripts Download. Usually Snuzzo has the kernels detect s-on or s-off so you should be good to just flash in recovery. TWRP is highly recommended by the snuz himself

You have to flash the boot.img through the bootloader after you flash the .zip in recovery.
Getting s-off is pretty easy. I was pretty stoned when I did it so it can't be that hard. If you have any questions about it just message me.

S-OFF is actually pretty easy, it looks intimidating at first with the whole "wire trick" thing, but if you just flash a stock, rooted ROM like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260154 and use either the Ubuntu or Windows JuopunutBear S-OFF from http://unlimited.io it is pretty easy. They do not support the Windows version anymore, but it fairly easy to Google up and find, I just did another Rezzy this last weekend, bone stock to unlocked and S-OFF sporting TWRP and CarbonROM in about an hour.

Wipe everything except your fat32 in recovery and try to flash any sense 3.6 ROM. If that boots fine, i'll walk you through the steps to get you on the right track. You need to have ROM zip on your sd card to flash anything

Now I recomed you to flash 4ext recovery. It's the best for Evo and has smartflash for s-on users which takes care of kernel problems
