If I remember correctly, I had the same thing a long time ago. I could only solve it by a format (after backing up first). Maybe someone knows a less destructive method?
Edit: my problem at the time was caused by some error resulting in the storage being mounted read only. The format was needed to remount it writable. If you actually have enough storage space left, you may be having the same issue.
Thumbnails take up alot of space. Clear them. Look through files delete ones that are no good to you
If you can install Link2SD you can check where you haven't enought memory an do some automatic cleaning, maybe it will help.

I only managed that by formatting the internal storage, if I remember correctly. Maybe someone knows a better method?

How did you unmount your sd? Go into recovery and mount it.in Storage and mounts. See if that works.
I remember some more now of what I did when I got the same errors as the OP. It's a really long time ago... Maybe it gives some more hints.
I used USB mass storage and a connection to my pc. I had an error on my internal storage, which made the internal storage read-only. But opening it as mass storage on the pc made it temporarily writable again. This allowed me to remove all files, solving the problem. I think that at this point I did a format and factory reset, just to be sure and get back to normal.

That's simple task... Delete gallery data and cache and you must have at least some hundred of mb on internal SD card
I had problem too and that fixed problem

I wouldn't sweat it. I've had this issue as long as I can remember flashing on my note (a whole two months) and it hasn't caused any issues that I've noticed. If it's a good release, mine works the same as everyone's. Same with a buggy release, same bugs as everyone else. The sd-ext issue when formatting dalvik cache hasn't caused any (extra) bugs for me.

I would use TWRP instead of CWM.
Did you try to fix permissions though in CWM?
I did try to fix permissions, and it said it succeeded, but still hasn't resolved the problem.
I'm not sure if it's an issue per se, based on one of the above posters. But it is annoying none-the-less, so if someone knows a way to fix this I'd be much obliged.
Also, what is TWRP?

The best way I can think of twrp is its cwm except for a lot more functionality with a more friendly user interface. You can flash it via goo manager app in play store which will overwrite your cwm as your active recovery.
As far as the card is concerned, I would start by...
Backing up w/e before starting
Plug into PC via in phone or memory card reader. All that is important is that your PC can see it.
Use the windows built in diskpart utility to clean it partition it and format it.
Let me know if you need the diskpart syntax, its from command line.

I assume that doing this will leave CWM so that I can re-install CM10?
Is CWM stored on some other storage then internal storage? Some other memory chip or something?
I'm having this issue with CWM too, it's kind of driving me nuts cause it used to see both cards just fine before, and I don't like filling up my internal card with all my roms & radios. I'm kind of scared to use TWRP again though after what happened with my GSII. In short- I have reason to believe TWRP bricked my phone. I had just gotten my Note & was getting my GSII ready to sell(clearing data, formatting storage, etc). I booted into TWRP(which I'd been using for months, so it wasn't user error) & did a factory reset there too just to be safe. It seemed to work fine & gave me the "rebooting" message, and then.... nothing. Black screen. No boot, no recovery, no download mode, no signs of life whatsoever. I had to send it to Samsung to be fixed.
Now, it could have just been coincidental timing, but I'm now understandably hesitant to use TWRP again. Has this happened to anyone else? Sorry to hijack the thread.
In CWM, have you guys tried to mount sd card.

I installed via Odin leaked version of JB, but now I have a strange problem with the internal SD card. After a few minutes from the boot, the SD goes into read-only mode and the app no longer able to write.
Official Samsung Gallery app crash with error "not enought space" , google music dont download music with the same error .
The other strange thing is that i can install new app , but if the app tries to write to internal SD i give write error .
I have installed CWM and formatted the mmc ; factory reset , wipe and reinstalled all with Odim but the problem persists .

I think i have had something similar, have you a ext sd card fitted?
My problem is that when the apps is moved to SD it will show it moved to USB storage (in file size info) but its actually moved to ext SD. If i do the same without the card in, i will get your error message.
its so feeling like a blonde moment, I even went back to official ICS and was the same..... (not as i remembered it working).
One moment i thought it was the emmc bug where photos wont be saved but they are fine..... phew.
I'll be interested to see if this is a problem or i am having a blonde moment and cant remember how the storage works.

finally I solve the problem, the internal SD memory (EMMC) at one point was mounted in read-only mode because vfat was corrupt, so when an application tried to write to that partition the internal SD was remounted in read-only. It is therefore not a problem with the ROM JB Samsung but from years of installations of different ROM and especially by removing the battery to turn off the phone when it crashed.
to solve this ANNOYING problem , I have installed the kernel-Philz cwm6-XXLSJ-OXX-3.1 , and copy to external SD AROMA File Manager ; from recovery i have check the file system with fsck.exfat ( fsck.exfat -fR / dev/block/mmcblk0p11 ) ; This command will force a file system checkand will automate the recovery / removal of corrupted files .
Since I followed this procedure, the problem was no longer presented.
If you are in this situation and you have any doubt contact me I will try to help you.

Well, I am in this annoying situation (with official jb, but the problem is the same) but I don't know how to run that command on Aroma's terminal, it says "sh: fsck.exfat: not found". From where do I have to run it? do I have to install filechecker before?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I couldn't do it from aroma's terminal, but did it without any problem with the app "Android Terminal Emulator"(root needed).
Thank you for the lead that finally brought me the answer.

No.
And here is why:
On the newer phones there is no seperate phone memory and internal SD, its just one big memory. The good thing about ir is, that you can install a lot more apps, because the whole memory is usable for the phone. The bad side is, that you can only access it through MTP.
In order to make it available as USB mass storage it needs to be unmounted, but this is not possible, because it is used by the phone. If you do it, the phone will crash. Its just like pulling a memory chip out of a running PC.
A filesystem can be mounted on different locations. If more than one location has write access, it will cause irreparable damage though.
The main problem here is that that the device uses the ext4 filesystem which Windows cannot process.
As a fix (sort of) you can
- swap internal and external storage.
- use a Smb over Wifi app and mount the share in Windows
- use a pseudo-filesysem such as sshfs from your computer

I dont think so and disagree with you... galaxy s i9000 and galaxy s2 i9100 also same. But they can mount internal and external as UMS or MTP.
Maybe the different in filesystem is the main cause.

On the S3, the whole internal memory is one big chunk (called /data). How would you go about mounting that as UMP when android is running? Android is using /data, therefore you can't unmount it and remount is as UMS.
If I'm wrong (which I may very well be), then post valid proof.

HI there, by chance are you able to recover from the "internal memory" after a factory reset, on a galaxy s3.
I am not sure what the consensus was-
-i recently thought google had all my photos backed up and did a factory reset, and lost everything.
Am hoping if I keep the phone that I can find a way to recover the photos.
Thank you.

I just wanted to say thanks for posting that second link. I've been looking everywhere for a way to export the raw mount to recover files from internal /sdcard.
Oh and in response to the first thread, I believe the reason they were getting that error (the thread is locked unfortunately) is because they used -1 (the number one) rather than -l (the letter L). I made this mistake too.
Edit: Probably should have used the 'thanks' button, sorry. Can't delete post.
If you have a custom recovery installed boot into that and mount ums from there, as recovery doesn't depend on the data partition it can unmount and remount it

Can you actually save anything to the internal storage? Try copying a file from the external card to the internal, if that works okay then try the standard clearing dalvik and cache, fix permissions and reboot.
don't forget about the space taken up by the old /sdcard/ folder from 4.1.2, if you didn't format that
Hey guys,
so the S2 of a friend of mine has an issue where it tells you that you don't have enough space to install new apps. The Phone is running CM10.2 Stable and I already tried a factory reset. The thing is that she has almost 10GBs free in the internal storage and about 1GB on her (2GB)SD-Card, in the settings under "storage" it says that both were full, even though they clearly have enough free space.
Can you tell me how I can resolve this issue?
Thanks for your time and help in advance.

There is also an internal storage for apps, it's normally 2GB (the first one in settings - storage). Have you tried moving apps to the sdcard?
Reformating the storages? (backup!)
Or use a PIT file to increase the 2GB internal storage for apps.
Okay I didn't see that, apparently there really are 2 partitions labled "internal storage" the one has 12GB and the other one 2GB as you said, App2SD can only move some Apps, but somehow there's something taking up over 1GB of Storage that isn't labled anywhere, what could that be?
Try clearing your logs to free up space

/data is the location. Look in /data/log maybe that's full with logs or something.
Nope, nothing. I tried an app that deletes thumbnails, cache, temporary files and stuff but that just freed a couple of megabytes :/ What else could it be?

I tried that today but it's still showing me the error.
Could I somehow repartition everything so that I merge the 2GB and the 12GB-Partition? And if so, how do I do it?

Okay I finally found the issue, /data/logs was just full, I deleted the folder and now she has 1.7GB free space, I don't understand why all these logs were there..

You said there where no logs. Anyway good to have it solved. Please add [SOLVED] to the thread title.

Sometimes logs are good but the space if you forgot to turn the log command off is just a pain in the ass. I had once a 6gb log file

I've had issues with this in the past.
One solution that works: if you have 'lucky patcher' installed, open it, (you'll see a pop-up detailing a cache or something clean), now close the app.
All should be good now.
2nd solution, use 'SD Maid', loads of options and works for me.
Good luck.

One would never suggest using cracked apps, though I merely offer a helpful option if one has done.
