Creating image of tablet - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Can anyone recommend any good software that can take an image/dump of my zperia z tablet?
I have it updated and is in a great state and would love to be able to just make an image dump and later load ftf file of its current state for a back/restore.
Thanks

It depends, if you have root, you can try installing a custom recovery (CWM) and create a backup inside that tool, it's a complete backup of your system, so later if you need to go back because you screwed something, you can go the recovery and restore that backup and get the same state when you created the backup.
Also the other way is using Titanium Backup, it doesn't need a customer recovery, it creates a backup of all your apps with their data, etc.
I use both in that way i feel more safe and also if i need to restore only 1 or 2 apps only i can manually do it using Titanium Backup.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for that.
dont have root so ill look into titanium and see how it goes.

As far as I know Titanium Backup needs root. And go for Pro version. You will be able to freeze/defrost apps which is awesome if you want to tweak your device.

Need your advice on backing up apps to use with another rom

Ok, I need your advice on this one cause I am a bit confused...
Ok lets say I am using a certain rom and have installed all the apps that I want. I have done a nandroid backup in case of something goes wrong.
Now, I want to flash another rom but want the apps that I already was using to installed in the new rom also. I know that I can backup with titanium but my concern is that when I will restore them will create duplicate folders or files on sd... is that going to happen or am I talking bull?
Can someone please suggest me a procedure to safely back up apps in order to use with another rom without messing up my sd folders or create duplicate files?
Also when I'll backup my apps do I have to back them up with their data also or not?
My apps are located on sd-ext and phone, none on SD so when I will restore them will they be placed where they were before?
It doesn't create duplicates.
You can use nandroid backup or titanium backup

Best app for ROM backup/recovery

Hi
I got a cheap LG GT540 a wee while back and now I want to try and install a more recent version of Android (I currently have version 2.1 installed). I think I understand how to do this but the biggest concern I have is that my phone gets bricked and I have to reinstall. The tutorials I have encountered are mostly over a year old and I want to be certain that I can backup the whole image on my phone and recover it. I would be grateful if you could please confirm what the current best ROM Backup/recovery app to do this?
The best way if via Nandroid backups from your recovery.
(On CWM Recovery: Backup&Restore->Backup or Backup&Restore->Restore)
A Nandroid will give you a full image of everything, Titanium Backup will allow you to pick and choose what you do or don't restore. For both you need a rooted device.
Yeah, with Titanium Backup you can backup/restore the apps and settings you want. It´s very useful if you went to another ROM like MIUI or so.
I always use CWM recovery and Titanium Backup. Safe and sound
I just use a nandroid back up.
Titanium back up can extract bits from a nandroid backup as well.
in the play store u can even get apps backing up ur call lists and sms
Thanks everybody for replying.
I had problems trying to backup ROM, got impatient and finally managed to upgrade to CyanogenMod v6. It wasn't the strategy I had in mind but finally got there in the end!!
My Backup Pro is a good application!!
+1 for Titanium Backup
CWM is what I always use.
CWM is the best...
some app can't restored with titanium backup...
I usually just use the Nandroid backup inside CWM.
I am also using titanium backup (paid version), but I am told not to restore the system data of the previous ROM after updated to a new ROM, because the system data of the previous ROM will cause instability to the new ROM.
I am doing automated backups with Titanium (paid version), and I also make nandroid backup every now and then.
Can Anyone give me the .apk link of a backup/restory app? I looked for one in the play store..but they all are paid..I want to root..but dont have a credit card..please help

I'm also using the titanium backup, but you need the pro version to access some features. I'm satisfied with it.
So I must buy it? There is no free rooting and back up/restoring app? Is Titanium the best one?

As far as I know, cwm backs up both user apps and system apps with their data so if u restore it from there, the old sytem apps and data might conflict with the new one...so I would advise against it.
Use cwm and completely restore ur old Rom, make a backup usng tb and then flash ur new Rom... Safest way!

I think that will make so much easier for me the fact of testing more ROMs on my cellphone, thanks you
You can simply backup your apps and data via TB and
After installing a new ROM just restore APP+DATA via TB... best way to sort and backup and restore apps individually

On some clockworkmod versions you can do an advanced restore and just choose data. Never tried it but maybe give it a shot

Not recommendable....if your phone is on different ROM before backup, restoring the backup data into different ROM will make your phone bootloop (really bad cases) or lost statusbar/setting and etc (light cases)....
since he already make a backup then TB is the best choices...

You Think????
FYI : Backup from CWM contains the whole pack of the previous ROM....when you choose to restore data only, it restore all data including User Apps Data and System Apps Data....when System Apps Data is restore into a different ROM, you bet it going to make your phone into bootloop....
you are welcome to try it if you don't believe me....

I was talking about the selective backup of nandroid backup from TB. Ofc in a CWM data restore all apps(system+user) get restored. Im well aware of that and I wont be trying that
Anyways i think this tool is the best option right now. So thanks iOneX for the info :good:
A bit late I guess..
Well, I come here six months later, but Google brought me here...
I guess you're already using Online Nandroid Backup combined with Nandroid Manager. Just two days ago I restored user apps+data with Nandroid Manager from a backup created through Online Nandroid Backup. Both apps from H3r3t1c are really useful, specially working together.
Aside of this advice (surely already not needed) I was looking after a script to restore those user apps+data from a backup. I wanna include that script in my list of zips-to-flash in ZipInstaller
I'd appreciate any help. Cheers.

Backup App and User Data Help?

I have been searching for an answer for this question for a couple of days now but have yet to find one, so I decided to go ahead and make a thread for it. What I am wondering, is how to create a backup of all my user data, apps, and app data that I can restore on different roms? I am currently stock rooted, however I have downloaded and wish to flash ARHD Rom, but I don't want to have to re install everything from scratch I just want to be able to click "restore" and have all my apps and data back.
Any Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys.

Because you are not rooted go this route. You do not require root.
1. Use the Helium app and copy the folder it creates onto your computer, it's called "CARBON." This will copy all apps and app data.
2. Use HTC Backup from the app store and backup everything onto dropbox. This will also backup your apps + data. It will be on a cloud storage so no need to push anything to anywhere.
3. Go into your SMS and hit the menu button. Backup all user text messaging. Copy to computer.
now you can report everything to anything.
After you are on your new ROM.
1. Run HTC Backup (comes with rom) and restore everything.
2. Use Helium to restore any missing apps.
3. Restore SMS.
Done.

I am rooted, what I'm really wondering now is if I can restore the data portion of my nandroid backup after flashing the new rom or if that will result in a bunch of FC's?

Use Titanium Backup and it can grab apps from a nandroid backup and restore them. navigate for this feature through the options menu.

Yes, you can flash a clean Rom then restore your data file from a previous backup. the only problem with that is that whatever problems you may have had before, may be present still. Otherwise, it doesn't hurt anything. In fact, both CWM and TWRP allow advanced restore where you can select portions of your back up to restore..one a time. In my opinion, it allows you to see, if a backup fails to restore, where exactly it is having trouble, be it in system, boot, data..etc. I literally just did this, restoring a data backup onto a clean Rom, and so far no issues. I understand what you mean by not wanting to set everything back up. System settings, widgets and app placements. You had the perfect setup and it took you forever to get it that way. Titanium backup and Rom Toolbox don't always restore these things like they claim to do.
Edit: I am finding the hard way with this phone, that unlike my old LG Mytouch, when you flash a firmware upgrade, non OTA push I mean, it doesn't stick to system. It's saved to data. So if you flash a data file from a backup with an older version, your back to that version. With my old phone, we could swap Roms after an update all day, and the baseband and firmware updates would stick every time.
