hello
i want to buy a new android phone and i love capture photos..so which one have a better camera..SGS2 or MyTouch Slide 4G or iPhone 4..i don't care about video recording
Best camera I've had on a smart phone yet; had an iPhone 4 for a bit before this and that had the best camera imo till the GS II, the GS II takes amazing photos and can't forget the 2mp front cam vs the less than 1mp vga camera that you get with almost any smartphone these days...
Theres a post on the GS II general here that says "post the best picture you've taken with the gs ii" or something, id check that thread out as people have some really amazing photos taken with the phone up.
Edit- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139591
There we go, check that thread out. If you are a skilled photographer or even just a point and shoot guy the gs ii takes great photos.

Well to each their own, from my personal experience i prefer the GSII camera 10x over the iPhone 4 camera. Then again I'm not really a photographing enthusiast I'm just a point and shoot type of person nor do i know the technical stuff about cameras to actually inspect both cameras technically and say which is better. If you are a "pro" photographer id google the specifications of each like the sensor or w/e and read up on it before making a decision.
gs2 camera is excellent..
sent from my galaxy S2.
I'm actually disappointed with the camera, I'm struggling to take any decent pictures with it, although that's probably my lack of talent.
I remember the iphone 4 camera being better, but without having them side by side I'll never know.
On paper the galaxy is better though.
It doesn't replace my 50D, but it does replace my 10 megapixel Sony TX1. Having an 8 megapixel cam on a phone is perfect for most uses.
Wait for iphone 5 or gs3

edit: wrong thread, was meant to post into the "best photo you've taken" one... somehow ended up here...
Anyway, definitely it is much better than my SGS1, esp in lower light. The front camera is unreal also, I take a lot of pics with the front camera when I am out and about (so I can see what I am framing with me in the pic ;-). The SGS1 front camera produced distorted, messy blobs, the SGSII one is quite a bit better. Good enough for facebook uploads, anyway.
But friends took a pic of a group of us with an iphone in a poorly lit telephone exchange, I was amazed at the clarity of the image, my SGS1 was never capable of such an image in those light conditions (my old old Nokia N95 on the other hand, I was nearly always happy with those pics). I reckon (but will have to wait and see till I get to the same location again one day) that the SGSII might just pip it, thanks also to the flash.
Came from an iPhone 4, it definitely has a better camera and it's not very picky when it comes to lighting and focus. In contrast the SGS1 camera was pretty meh compared to the iPhone 4's shots
sgs2 has one very good camera.but the best camera smartphone is the nokia n8.
I agree, the camera is way better than the one the SGS1 had.
First time I can take decent pictures with my phone in a bar - without a flash. Great
I do think the s2 camera is slightly better than iPhone 4 but it does have a slower shutter speed (my mate and I have tested this) and sometimes its hard to get in focus... overall though not bad. Just my 2c
Its not the best camera around but it can surely rival the N8's 12Mpixel camera. The only downside is that there is a pink/green spot depending on the light conditions ( even out doors ) and some users have frame drop issues on low light when capturing 720P. 1080P video is extremely zoomed so this is only good as a 720P video capture. Putting aside the defects, the image quality is very acceptable, altho it still cant rival my very old Sony DSC-P200 ( roughly about 7-8yrs old )
if you use true hdr apps to take pics of the sun you'll be fine
regular camera for the rest
those are (true) hdr from the sgs2:
https://tibere.tzib.net/gallery/var/resizes/Uploads/2011-08-09 20.55.59.jpg?m=1312916999

https://tibere.tzib.net/gallery/var/resizes/Uploads/hdr_00014_dark.jpg?m=1312401596
(accept cert)
dont be fooled with camera apps claiming hdr and taking a single picture - its just image processing and the result sux
im listing that because the iphone4 uses hdr for pics and this kind of pic look a lot better that way
gsmarena has good comparisons of different devices' cameras . It's important to see pictures taken under similar conditions and the same test scene .
One shouldn't expect wonders from such a tiny sensor . Anything not shot in daylight / lowest ISO/ is a compromise.

Hey folks, I just picked up a Galaxy Nexus when it was on sale for $549. I'll probably be selling the Amaze soon. Let me know what you guys would like to see comparison wise between the two. I'm running Bulletproof on the Amaze and AOKP on the Nexus.
Id like to see picture comparison between the two. thank you

I already had a thread a while back regarding picture comparison, there is no comparison as I've been told!!! camera and pictures are below par on the galaxy nexus. There are at least a dozen phones out that take better pics. the new HTC camera is the best on the market, better than iphone 4s's as well... The new camera is currently employed in the amaze and the rezound. f/2.2 28 mm wide angle lense, backside illuminated sensor. the viewing angle is very wide, meaning you don't have to keep moving back to get someone in the pic. f/2.2 gives you very close and clear macro shots and very good shots in general... the iphone 4s has an aperture of f/2.4 the lower the aperture the closer you can get a macro also Smaller aperture=greater depth of field/wider zone of focus.

dude I know you love reading tech articles and stuff but I am not that big fan of blabla details they post on some phonereview websites. who cares what the characteristics of the cameras are on the paper? when it comes to pictures the image talks itself so 2 pictures of the same object will be the best way to judge which camera is better

Because some specs on paper actually matter.. the MOST important thing in the camera is the lense, and sensor which HTC has one of the best in these phones atm, along with Nokia, and Sonys xperia line. I was so disapointed when looking at the pictuers and video taken with the galaxy nexus, its def not worth the $600+ i would never pay that for a phone anyways..
edit: thats why dslr are some of the best cameras on the market. you dont see people saying "its just specs on paper, and they dont matter". its because of the the lense and sensor they put into the cameras. i can see people saying that to MP because you cant really tell a difference between 5 and 8 MP comeing to regular pictures unless zooming in or video

Lets just stop reading about specks of things from now one because they don't matter.
I also love how people come to this forum saying iphone 4s camera is better. I have personally taken multiple pictures with my phone and my friends 4s and put them on my 1080 p screen at home...Amaze kicks the butt out of 4s...some people think the camera on the 4s is better because the picture they see on the phone looks better...It's not a fair comparison. The two screens have different dpi's screen saturations etc. If you want to compare pics...get a big screen best quality screen you can find and connect your computer to it...maybe a monitor better than a 1080p... then judge for yourself...screen saturation of monitors also affect how a picture looks. heck print the picture ans see which one is better.
I have also taken pictures with the galaxy nexus in the store and with my amaze, even with bluetoothed all pictures to both phones and compared, so I have the same screen comparing the pictures...go do it and see which one is better...If you come here for advice and you get one, why do yo argue against it. BTW my brother and I are very much into photographers, my brother more than me. and specs do matter. megapixels after 5 might not not matter as much, but sensors matter the most, and amaze has a very good one, and lense aperture, lense quality and viewing field all matter.
go research and see if aperture size matters!!! I blieve galaxy nexus aperture is like f/2.75 vs ours f/2.2...you're saying specs don't matter...then go buy a computer with the least amount of ram and a slow hard drive and cpu...specs don't matter.

someone was saying in another thread that iphone takes better low light pictures...thats ignorant with lower aperture number you get a bigger aperture size...means more light comming into the camera...so iphone 4s's f/2.4 has a smaller aperture thus letting less light in, than a f/2.2 which has a better aperture letting more light in...just ignorant...lower aperture also leads to better clarity and overall and closer macro shots!!! people should read a little camera 101 before they start posting things based on pure opinions about camera's.

the lense has nothing to do with aperture...on point and shoot cameras aperture size changes based on lighting, on dslr's you can control them manually....on in general lower aperture number is means a bigger aperture hole; thus more light. older phones have higher aperture numbers thus letting in less light, less clarity etc. The big lense size has nothing to do with aperture...aperture is like the iris of the camera...

I know there are some sonyericsson phones out there with variable aperture size...If we could change aperture size's like dslr's on our phone it would be heaven!!!! As of now...the lighting is controlled by software...on point and shoots lighting is changed by changing aperture size like the iris of your eye. This controls both lighting and clarity, phones do this through software, thus having a bigger aperture (smaller aperture size f/size) is beneficial because the software can always turn down the lighting if needed...but you cannot get more lighting if you have a smaller aperture focusing pictures is a whole other story and are done through different ways....I gotta make a thread about camera's let me get some good sites and info together and i'll make a nice thread regarding camera quality.

I believe its a little bit of cost issue a little bit of politics. Samsung didn't want their best phone to be the google one. I think google gets a good margin of profit from these types of devices. They probably sacrificed the camera for a 720p screen for cost reasons...the 720p pentile amoled is not that great...the rezounds 720p slcd is much better: 1. because its a smaller screen and has a higher pixel density, higher than iphone, lol!!! and 2. its a regular rgb matrix instead of pentile!!

The one thing about the Galaxy that pushed me toward switching was the AMOLED screen, it's just so pretty! The blacks are so deep and the colors so crisp. Aside from that however, the Amaze pretty much takes the cake, especially in respect to build quality and the camera as mentioned.
Either way, this comparison is rather exciting
Thanks HTC for bring a bigger mp camera to a phone that's suppose to be the little brother of the m8.........
http://mobile.theverge.com/2014/5/...tes-the-companys-flagship-phone-in-a-trimmed
...because we're ALWAYS complaining about the MP on our camera when we just upload the photos to instagram and fb..
You can't say that for ALL users. A lot of people don't need a expensive camera to take pics. Especially if you want to use that pic past Facebook etc. All I'm saying is instead of adding a second camera. HTC could have added more to the m8 to help keep it from being the same camera with a second camera. End of the day 4mp camera is a 4mp camera
When I want to use my pics past loading onto social apps. I use my note 3. But if I want to use this pic to upload then yes either my m8 or note 3 will do the job just fine
Sent from my SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'll agree that what smartphone camera is "better" depends on how you in particular use the camera. But just because a camera has more MP, does not make it "better" either. We'll have to wait and see if the camera on the One Mini 2 actually yields better quality images than the M8.
Unless you are blowing up or cropping photos a lot, 13 MP is too much and a joke for a camera phone. High MP smartphone cameras really struggle in low light. And unless you are taking pictures outdoors in broad daylight, its often low light.
I'll agree that HTC probably should not have opted for the dual camera on the M8. Kinda cool at times, but also pretty gimmicky. The money probably would have been better spent improving image quality on the single rear camera (even if not to increase the MP).
It's kinda a slap in the face to a certain degree. Here is the new m8 with the same camera with a secondary camera which is mostly gimmicky while nice at the same time. Then they decide to make the new HTC one mini from a 5 mp camera to a 13MP camera...........
Now will it have better pics? Probably not or probably so. For most people it don't matter, but after being in retail when trying to sell a customer the one the camera is its downside cause on PAPER the 4mp camera doesn't sound good at all compared to the other smartphones out in the market. People will buy the mini 2 because of it has higher mp count than the m8. While the m8 blows the mini in other specs that 13MP camera looks a lot better to somebody who doesn't care to have the latest and greatest specs.
While a higher mp count doesn't make a camera phone any better yes, but why bring the same thing to the table for your flagship but have a mid range phone with a better spec camera on paper WHEN it comes to mp count. .

Unfortunately, Average Joe is always going to fall for that marketing gimmick of chasing big numbers, without having any real understanding of what they mean. How many times have you seen someone with a fancy, big screen 1080p TV; and the owner just has a standard definition program on it; and not even in the right aspect ratio (so the picture is all stretched out to fill the screen). That kinda crap drives me crazy!
I for one applaud HTC for turning their nose up at the megapixel arms race. Its gotten absurd. I mean seriously, do we really need a smartphone with a 41 MP camera? Of course not (I understand its actually a really good camera, but not because its 41 MP).

That is a really good point. Why push a certain marketing strategy (and one that particularly bucks the trend) for one device, then do nearly the exact opposite for another device.
In any case, I don't think that the Mini 2 will really compete directly with the M8. Price point alone, even the Average Joe Blow is going to know its a flagship versus a "budget" phone. Don't know about the One Mini in particular, but for the most part, any HTC phone aside from the "flagship" tends to sell in extremely low numbers. At least here in the US (don't know about other regions).

The same reason we need 4k Tv's and 2k screen on smartphones. To keep making them money lol! Exactly why say your not going to follow the trend but all your other phones are right in the trend? Lol but HTC could have tried a little harder for the m8 speaking of the camera of course. The phone is rock solid but don't have these commercials making fun of these mp trends and being different when your other devices join right in with today's trends.

Some of my favorite shots have come from the camera on my M8. In terms of higher quality, I'm actually looking at the Sony G Lens, since it is supposed to take really nice shots, and is $200 at my local best buy.
Some people such as my self want a phone with camera and some prefer cameras that can be used as a phone.

If I want to use my pics for something worthwhile, I use my Canon EOS.. otherwise I use a crappy phone camera.
lets all cut the crap. the camera is nice on the M8 and i do agree. to a certain degree. mega pixels don't make the camera. but it sucks for details when blowing up pictures or zooming we dont need 20 mp. but i think we should have something alittle higher

reviews for the one mini 2 have started surfacing. in ideal conditions it is resolving a lot more detail, by a huge margin. but anything other than ideal and the m8 takes it.
i think the 2.0 pixel size is great and all, but i think we couldve benefited a lot for 1.8 sized pixels and an extra megapixel. that configuration shouldn't lead to a large camera hump.
i'm happy with what i got either way, i do miss the old OIS from my old m7. but whatever, the m8 has proven to be a capable shooter. and my nx300 is always on stand by in case i need a real camera
Any advice on rooting the Mini 2. I receive it tomorrow from carphone warehouse (379sterling.) Has the original Mini gained from official CM11 support thus far?
Any insight on how to root my forthcoming mini 2 and gaining cwm and porting roms would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know what phone o could potentially port from for the Mini 2.
How difficult to root and install a custom cwm recovery?
Hello community!
I have just bought the new HTC One Mini 2, it is locked with EE network. It looks like I am unable to get the unlock code anywhere. Do you have any suggestion or advice?

what sucks is having a super light sensitive camera.. while living in Florida. It's always bright unless you paint your windows black.
So what if it has a camera with higher MPs. That doesn't make it a better phone than m8. Unless HTC comes up with a device having the same internals as the m8 but a better camera resolution, I don't see what is there to fuss about.

I'm not so sure that having a more sensitive sensor (while better for low light situations) necessarily means that there will be too much light in bright situations. The camera controls the sensitivity (ISO based on the old "film speed" terminology) as well as the aperture (f-stop). It might be that the automatic exposure that the camera is trying to achieve (balance between ISO, aperture and shutter time) is too bright for your local conditions. In which case, you can manually lower the exposure by tapping the 3-top menu button in the camera app, tap EV and lower the exposure value.

I've messed with all the settings. I appreciate the feedback though...
Unfortunately, if i have any picture with a bright spot from the sun the whole picture gets washed out. Full indoor is fine and full outdoor is fine. But daytime pictures indoors with sun coming in the window- washed out. Granted- if i still lived in Philly (or most parts of the country) i doubt it would be an issue.

Any camera will have issues if there are areas in the frame which are very bright, or spotty lighting (mix of bright and darker spots). Or does it seem worse with the phone? Often forcing the focus to a different spot by tapping the screen helps a lot.
On my Note 4 I could take surround pictures which were up and down and left and right. I complete 360 degrees. On the note 4 I had to download a samsung add on. Does the V10 have anything like this. I'm not familiar with LG phones.
I don't see this option available specifically for the LG V10 or even LG phones.
But go to the Play Store, look at the app you used to use - then scan down to the list of similar apps. There's certain t be an app there that will do the same for the V10.
Good Luck
You need to download the Google Camera for that.
The LG v10 camera is just incredible though. It has time-lapse, panoramic, great manual tools if you really want to be technical with it, etc.
I found a cool use for the camera at a recent concert... Using the "groupie" front facing camera and rear facing camera side by side I was able to take a shot of the band playing a song and all my friends reactions at the same time. You can get really creative if you want.

Except the front cams take TERRIBLE quality pics. That's one thing I'm a bit po'd about with the phone. Even if the smoothing slider is set to zero, it seems like there is still a fair amount of it going on.

Haha. I guess it really erks me because the G4's front cam took far, FAR better pics.
The V10 has a great camera but there is a learning curve to it. The Note 4 you just picked up and started shooting and it was great, the V10 has more cool features but requires a bit more manipulation. But it is still one of the best out there.

Given these are 2 5MP cameras and not the 8MP of the G4...you really can't compare them

I disagree. I have other devices with a 5MP camera and they are fine for what 5MP can offer. Reason being, they don't have the stupid smoothing feature that the V10 does with no way to completely disable it.
I'm comparing it to my old HTC 10 and the quality is night and day. It's blurry/fuzzy, the colors are washed out. It reminds me of the quality of my old cheap webcam from 10 years ago.
Because you didn't turn off all the skin toning and skin lighting junk that's on by default. I was able to shoot selfies with more detail than any model would ever want to see on themselves so I know it isn't the camera's fault.

My testing and photos say otherwise. Like I said, way more detail in the selfies I've taken than most people who sit for me would ever want to see in a photo. It's not the camera.
Hey, coming from a Nexus 6 ... this is a major improvement.
Okay let's settle this, 5 mp camera is not the best out there, especially compared to iPhone 8's new front facing camera or even Samsung's I guess, although I can only tell based on what I see on internet, as I don't own them. Makes me wonder why it's so hard to create a perfect phone? I mean you did almost everything perfectly right, put a damn 8 mp camera with ois or whatever and hit a home run, why did they choose this front facing camera is beyond my understanding

Because the reality is that in order to actually see a doubling of resolution, you actually have to quadruple the megapixel count. So to see twice the detail of a 5mp sensor, you would have to use a 20mp sensor. 20mp at selfie cam size would be insane. The cameras that are using 16mp selfie cameras (such as the HTC U11) are actually using the main shooter from the V30. But to squeeze that extra sensor in with OIS would require more room and produce more heat which would cause issues with amp glow on your other sensors. Digital imaging can be a real P.I.T.A. even with dedicated cameras. Cellphone cameras are a miracle that they even produce anything worthwhile. And that's usually due to being conservative in your approach to what hardware you use.

Thanks! I already learned something interesting today Is that the reason why the Nokia 8 and the HTC U11 have larger bezels as well in order to have enough room to tackle these technical challenges?

Yes, bezels really only exist to hide hardware that they haven't figured out how to downsize or place elsewhere. To get tiny bezels, you have to use tiny camera, earpiece, and proximity sensor hardware or just get rid of them. OIS units make things much bigger as you have to put a ring of motors around the object you're stabilizing. Earpieces/speakers take up a lot of space. I'm guessing Google used the headphone jack space to add more battery and the second speaker, with the second speaker adding more bezel. Proximity sensor is probably the smallest thing in the bezels. Display drivers used to be a big contributor (Moto 360 flat tire was a display driver if I remember right) but with the modern OLED panels they just, er, tuck 'em.
Not passing judgement on the quality of the selfie cam, but I notice that as with the main camera, it too has a "wide angle" setting.
But with only the single camera, necessarily this means that the non-wide setting is digitally zoomed, plus I'd bet there's heavy software correction going on to get rid of all of the wide angle distortion. Perhaps that's asking too much from a 5 MP sensor?
However, I rarely take selfies, and when I do, I'm often trying to squeeze in the other people that are with me, or some scene in the background, so maybe I'll find the native wider angle appealing? Hard to tell in-store with all the florescent lighting.

I've never taken an awful photo with the front facing V30 camera. I really don't understand how anyone thinks it's awful.
Sent from my LG-H931 using Tapatalk
From my experience, it only does poorly in low light, that is, compared to 2017 flagships. I don't think it's nearly as bad a many claim it is.
If you look at a lot of of comparisons with the between the likes of the note 8, iphone x and pixel 2, it holds up really well. The biggest difference is really between the pixel 2 and pretty much every other flagship front facer, it has by far the best front facing cam on the market by a good margin imo. The v30 front cam can look really good, is just dosen't produce quite as much detail as the others, and maybe lacks in dynamic range a bit.
If you turn on flash in low light, you see better results. It’s not real flash obviously but I’ve been impressed when it gets it right.
maybe youre ugly lol jk
