[Q] S2 wont boot after app install - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friends S2 19100 wont reboot. An app install locked the phone up and when it was restarted it just stops at the samsung logo. Is there a way to repair it without losing all the data i.e. messages, photos and such. Any help would be gratefully received.

What was you on ics jb? Go to recovery and wipe cache and dalv cache if you have cwm. If don't work do a wipe/factory reset. If you was on ics firmware or not to sure then don't do factory reset. May harm your phone.

RE: helppp
Kinda need some more information.
What happened for your phone to start doing this? Did you try to root it, flash it etc?
Where in the world are you? You may need to flash your phone so this helps me find the right firmware for you.
What Network are you on? Same as above, helps me find the right firmware if needed.
Any idea what version of Android you were running before this happened or were you running a custom rom?

[Q] [GT-I9300] PROBLEM after official 4.1.1 update

Hi everybody
So today (27.10.) I finally got a Jelly Bean update for my international and unbranded Finnish Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). I updated my phone via Kies and it updated successfully. Phone booted normally, but there was little (actually, pretty big) problem: there's no notification/status bar!
I tried to open it with an app that opens it but it still didn't appear. I rebooted and still nothing and I also searched from Google and XDA but didn't find anyone with same problem, so could you be kind and help me if you know anything that might help (without wiping the phone). I would appreciate any kind of suggestion.
Thanks
Try wiping cache & dalvik in CWM.
Your data won't be wiped.

[Q] Downgraded 4.0.4 -> 4.0.3 to beat brick bug, now getting 'App stopped' messages

[Q] Downgraded 4.0.4 -> 4.0.3 to beat brick bug, now getting 'App stopped' messages
Argghhh.
I've managed to use Odin to get from 4.0.4 to 4.0.3, but when the phone starts it stops responding to input as it's putting up a chain of error messages. It started with 'acore' has stopped. I googled and went and cleared the App Data for Contacts and Contact Storage. (Clear Cache wasn't enabled for either). I'm now getting other app stopped messages... LogsProvider, Maps, Voice Search etc etc.
Should I reflash? Or do a factory reset? Or do a Clear Cache and Clear Dalvik (Don't know how to do those, so brief tips welcomed!)
My next steps were going to be to install the Chainfire root + CWM rom (instructions from http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i9100-xxlpq-root-cwm-clockworkmod-recovery-65393/). Should I go straight into that instead?
Help would be appreciated. I'm normally quite geeky tech guy, but given the brick bug situation I'm erring on the cautious side with this
That. (As long as you're 100% sure you're not running a 4.0.4 kernel; if in doubt, flash a custom kernel first).

just flash a custom kernel like Siyah v 4.1.5 (tar file for ODIN) from pc odin to get a custom recovery and then do a Wipe data/factory reset to bring about stability.
ps- do backup all ur user apps using TB so that after wipe data u can restore all those apps back on ur phone. Also make a backup of ur contacts (if not synched to google) and text messages (SMS) using third party apps from stores.
I've backed everything up via Kies and My Backup, and after logging out of the Samsung account I got a bunch more 'stopped app' messages... it's resetting now.
<fingers crossed>
If that's ok it's on to the Chainfire update I mentioned before...
edit:
Yay, starts fine, no errors, thanks
edit2:
chainfire's kernel installed ok too. So I think I'll try MIUI until the official UK release of JellyBean.
Glad it's working for you now. You're welcome
Re: [Q] Downgraded 4.0.4 -> 4.0.3 to beat brick bug, now getting 'App stopped' messag
Hello guys. I am currently using Slimbean RC1 and I made a backup of my rooted stock 4.0.4 with Siyah kernel so that when I restore my backup anytime in future then will not have any super brick risks. But I have a confusion. Do I need to do a full wipe in CWM before restoring backup? Or it will wipe automatically?

DON'T do a factory reset! OP states he is on 4.04. Search 'emmc brickbug', you may have it as you're on 4.0.4. If you do have the brickbug, a factory reset will brick your phone.
OP, by 'losing your data' do you mean photos etc? If so, you can flash a new firmware (download from Samfirmware) using Odin without losing photos etc. However, you will lose your app data (settings of apps etc). Better than having a bootlooping phone though.
then forgot abt the backup

So he doesn't sync contacts to google? (in sync options, 'sync contacts'? if ticked, then all contacts can be restored to phone after signing in to google account on new rom). If you do install new firmware: to be on the safe side, flash an ICS-compatible Siyah kernel using Odin. Then you'll be safe to wipe, as Siyah has the emmc bug (emmc_cap_erase) disabled. Then, flash new firmware in Odin.
Some people report success of upgrading with no loss of data (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116344) so you technically could try upgrading with no wipe.
Flashed New Frimware.
didnet lose any data.
all things fine.thanks guys.

[Q] Blank HomeScreen - Deleted some program

Hi guys,
I've got a Samsung S3 GT-I9300.
I had my phone rooted using Clockwork & Odin3 and had the latest firmware installed. I have used Clean Master and deleted some 'useless' programs on my phone. As I finished deleting the programs, I pressed the home key to get back to my homescreen only to find it blank.
I can swipe down to get the top menu (to select wifi, bluetooth etc) and to enter settings. I have tried a factory reset and it still has the same issue.
After doing the factory reset, I now get stuck on the Samsung screen and it doesn't go further.
Any suggestions? I'd take it to a Samsung service centre but because It's rooted they will charge me. I haven't figured out how to unroot the phone.

Probably you messed up something with that cleaner..personally I've never used one, I think that they only cause problems..do a full wipe like MoonBlade said and flash the rom again..
