I seem to have downloaded a wrong version of a ROM, which apparently wrote mmcblk0p5 and mmcblk0p7 backwards from each other. So now I am unable to boot my device. Talking to some people in #koush on freenode stated that it wrote over my modem.bin with a boot image, which is why I cannot boot. I previously already had a working rom (CM10) and was simply trying another one.
So I am wondering, is thare * ANY * way to fix this bricked phone? I am unable to boot into either normal, recovery, or download mode.
check your PM.
Odin back to stock, it might rewrite your partitions correctly with your modem.

having the phone plugged in, it is not recognized as I figured. Also, I dont see how I would even use odin to install the zip to the device. before it was a tar file and this is a zip. So i dont know if it will work as it does not come up.

No, there is nothing you can do but use a JTag service..I know, cause I did the same...I thought i was a billy bad-ass, and start flashing with out READING!! what a fool I was, anyways, And, NO a UsbJig will NOT work, again it will NOT work. Use this service...this company is GOOD.

here is a way to check, go into device manager, if there is a device sitting there QHSUSB DLOAD, then you will NOT get flashed from Odin, I tried every program out there, nothing will see the device. JTag service, stop wasting time.

Thanks.
Hi all, Just curious, Im running S-on, latest firmware 3.16, 1.12.11.1119 with TWRP 2.3.3 and had been running MeanBean since 2.9 and Mikey has done a fantastic job, Rom running absolutley flawless. My question is, I get the MeanBean OTA and keep downloading and installing them, is this ok? I keep reading people having all kinds of issues and am begining to be hesitant now when the MeanBean OTA indicator pops up, but the latest 3.03 dirty flashed just fine. Thanks again to Mikey and all the developers!

OTA
You should be fine. After it downloads it boots into TWRP anyway so it does automatically what you would do manually, so I wouldn't be hesitant at all doing it that way.
Why are you still S-on?

NEVER EVER NEVER EVER take an OTA if you don't know exactly who the source of the OTA is. It can unroot your phone if you take the wrong one.
I wasnt sure if I could go S-Off with the latest Firmware. What is the best method?

Only thing I'm hesitant of, is if I got a good download. I always check my MD5, I'm not sure if the OTA updater does that. When downloading directly on the phone I've gotten many bad downloads. I usually d/l on the computer and Airdroid to the phone and check the MD5 in ES File Explorer.

You can find the zip file downloaded through OTA Updater by opening ES File Explorer to sdcard/OTA-Updater/download and check the MD5 from there.
I wasnt sure if I could S-Off with the latest Firmware and what method to use. TWRP seemed like it worked around it and Mean has been running great, so I left it S-on. I already bricked a phone once and luckily HTC fixed it for me at no charge.

That's true forgot about that. But the OTA prompts you to install immediately. Just some extra steps I guess, but worth it to be sure.

Dirty Racun says it will handle all Hboots. I say do it. Just PRECISELY follow instructions. Make sure all the drivers and software required are properly updated and you're on a compatible OS version.
I got mine on initial release, did LazyPanda S-OFF within the first week. No issues!
Good luck!

Once OTA updater prompts you to install, simply click cancel, go into ES file explorer and find the ROM that just downloaded, verify MD5 is good. If it is (which it should be, I personally have never run into an issue with OTA updater) then just bounce into recovery and flash the ROM you just downloaded.

Hello everyone,
I got some troubles with my VZW Note 2 and really need help. I rooted my phone but didn't unlock the bootloader. Since then, I used the stock ROM only without any modification.
Today, I tried to make a backup of the current ROM. The phone suddenly bricked with a message "System Software not authorized by Verizon Wireless".
I tried to follow the instruction to restore stock ROM on the sticky note, but Odin failed to process right after 5-10 seconds. It stopped right at CACHE step. I have tried to use different USB port but no luck.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
make sure you use the "alternate restore" file that I have linked in section 1b of the guide. I bet your failing at sboot, not cache.

I'm having the same problem, I can't get the alternate ROM or the normal ROM to work.
I've tried both seperately, both with PIT file, both without PIT file, PIT file first then either of them...
Nothing is working

I'm currently re downloading the alternate restore file to make sure it wasn't the file itself or anything. I'll post the results shortly. I know on some of the times I've tried it said Xmit file error or something along those lines, but I'll copy paste it once I re try.

I did a quick battery pull and now whenever I turn the phone on, it keeps trying to update. SOOOO, is there a way to stop this or take it off through PC with ODIN????
I'm not ready to lose root yet....
Anybody have any ideas? Can I flash a custom rom through ODIN?

You sure you didn't brick your device? I was under the impression doing battery pulls during the update process would mess up your phone.
Someone posted something similar yesterday. Another person suggested pulling the sim card out and then rooting the phone as usual.
Edit: you already have root?

Yes, I already have root. The phone is currently next to me with the battery out.
First off, I'm no expert here. I'm hesitant to offer any advise. Are you able to boot directly to recovery?

Luckily no, but this is very frustrating. It hasn't fully loaded yet. Trying to figure out if there is a to do a factory reset and have go it go back to what it was in the box.

I tried that. It keeps trying to do that damn update.
I've never taken an OTA on a Samsung device. In my experience there is a prompt that verifies you want to install after the download. IF it's the same here, I would THINK your safe to Odin.
If you can get to recovery, throw a ROM on your SD card and flash.

By "loading" do you mean downloading? Or is actually installing?
Dr. Cornelius asks you to calm down.
you have to poke a accept after it downloads
then it boots to download mode
if you like
you can revert stock to MDK wipes everything
http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=237
flash to complete stock and re-root ??
Not sure how far out of the way you would like to go..
I downloaded the OTA and let it site on the stock MDK phone for over a day before I rooted and installed ota root keeper to test to see if I can restore root..with out bricking
I could of easily delete the fota cache where it downloaded to and frozen the propitiate file to stop the update

get into recovery and just flash a custom rom.
If you have titanium backup, use it to freeze SDM 1.0 and FWUpdate. This will keep the new software from downloading and keep the software update notification from appearing (provided it hasn't been installed by now).
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
best idea has been said, get that thing into custom recovery where the OTA cant install. try beating the phone as it tries to install and get it into download mode and see if u can flash a custom recovery though ODIN
What you can do at this point depends a lot on what has already been updated on your phone.
If the bootloader is already updated, then there's no way for you to load the older kernel onto it to get it ready to root.
What I'd suggest you do is to go ahead at try the rooting process.
Boot the phone into download mode and try to push the MD2 kernel onto it,
If the install tries to restart, it'll fail since you don't have the expected software, which hopefully will give you a usable system.
Then use motochopper to try to get "su" access.
If ODIN refuses to flash the MD2 software, it's probably the case that you've already gone past the point of no return (i.e. you've got the updated, locked bootloader) and you might as well let the update finish.
If you succeed, then install MDK and Voodoo OTA Keeper and cross your fingers.
Good luck!
Hey folks. I've tried every search here & via Google that I can think of and the answer won't come to me. Here's the weird, surreal, but I assure you very current problem. I screwed around trying to install Jasmine 5.0 and it has bitten me in the rear-end. In order to fix a problem I had with it, I wanted to KDZ back to stock and start over. Unfortunately it won't let me do that. When I try to go into Download mode, it gives me a secure boot error, turns the screen black and flashes the LED at me multicolor-style. The only way to get out of that is a battery pull.
I can boot into Recovery just fine. I'm back on SkyDragon 4.4 as we speak, but not being able to get into download mode is what I'd consider a BIG PROBLEM, considering that's how you fix soft bricks. If I ever have a problem, I'm toast. Thus, my flashing days are pretty well over unless I can get this fixed.
I did find this from @bweN diorD :
bweN diorD said:
well it should be the aboot then. while testing, the only things that gave me a secure boot error were boot (which i just gave you) and aboot.
im not sure how you would install aboot, i dont have a flashable zip. maybe using terminal in twrp, but i have little experience to give advice on that.

Does that mean I need to figure out how to get 12B aboot & boot properly restored from the img thread? If so, does anybody know HOW one might do that? I apologize, but I'm VERY much at my wit's end here and can't figure it out right now. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've seen told to other people in the same situation, you need to flash the laf.img, but you'll have to look up how to do that. Probably via adb connected through TWRP? Shrug. Good luck dude, sorry to hear.

Works like a charm! Thanks to you both - @hsbadr & @annoyingduck !!!! We would have been in a heck of a bind without your help.
you can flash this on anything....when we were testing J-5 we got a little over protective and decided to upgrade what the new download mode fix script installs to 23b images, which conflict with bumped recoveries. It didn't need to be done, so you should do this repair if you flashed J-5 either way - no matter what current rom your on, it won't effect anything other than download mode. Next J-5 will fix it for everyone. Basically bump requires KK aboot. Download mode requires aboot to match rpm,tz,and laf. Once those get upgraded to LP, download mode fails because of the bumped aboot. Turns out, we didn't need those images to get LP booting, so fixes are in the future.

For the download mode fix you shouldn't need to factory reset. Heh, when I used it I was back on KK, booted into recovery, flashed the fix and rebooted straight back into the ROM.
