Hi.
Been on various jelly bean versions but on everyone I am suffering serious battery drain from facebook. I have turned off notifications and sync but it keeps waking up phone according to better battery stats. Anyone else having this problem? I am now running the latest btu UK version and still the same.

Delete the Facebook app
no Problem here,
try reinstalling!
It has nothing to do with JB. It has to do with the latest update of the Facebook app.
Somehow the current FB app keeps a thread running all the time to check for updates and keeping the device in sync, and that not only makes the phone terribly slow and laggy, but it also causes more battery drain (not to mention higher data consumption)
Since I didn't have a backup of the previous FB app, my choice was to uninstall FB and, honestly, I don't regret it.
The thing is, I use facebook frequently so don't want to uninstall it. Since flashing to jb, I have had to disable Google now, location services and various other things which I didn't have to with ics! What's the point of a smart phone if you can't have anything installed/running!

Install Tasker and Secure Settings. Create a Tasker profile to use the SS plugin and freeze Facebook when the screen is turned off. Create a Task to unfreeze FB, wait half a second and the open FB app. On your homescreen create a Tasker widget to run the second task, and make the icon for the task the FB app icon.
I've done the above, and it means I can run FB on my phone but as soon as I turn the screen off the app is frozen and it can't drain my battery. I do the same for Google Maps for similar reasons.
Hello guys, I have a problem with the Facebook and Messenger app, they don't hibernate even if I manually hibernate them.
I tried cutting off the wakelock path, ignoring running state and enabling deep hibernation, but even after that I open the app to find them in the "will hibernate when screen is off" section. They've been draining my battery crazily!
Any other suggestions to do?
Same here. I think a recent Messenger update somehow changed something that prevents Greenify from hibernating it. I am using Lolliop via CM 12.1 Nighly (the very last one before CM 13).
I thought so too and rolled back to some older version, still the same problem with no luck. It's extremely frustrating.
Having the same problem here after their latest update.
Same problem, I mean I only lost like 4% over 5 hours but it should be a lot less, it was Facebook and messenger in my partial wakelocks
I used amplify to limit the wakelocks by them, the wakelock is called bugreporter and so far it hasn't affected notifications, and now they don't keep the device awake anymore.
You can also download older versions which didn't cause the issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64816556&postcount=28
so any news about this yet?

What about the post above yours? That not sufficient for you?
Same here, gets woken by LollipopSerivce and stays up for hours until I manually killed it with "put in to hibernation now"
details:
CM13 nightly 20160116
Xposed 79,
Greenify 2.8 beta 9
Same with me, i uninstalled FB but i need messenger for chatting
Also the persistant notification from Messenger seems to prevent it from sleeping (Sequence : Messenger is hibernating, I receive a GCM push that wake him up but then it keep being "up" if i don't throw away the pop-up....). Or maybe i'm totally wrong dunno
CM13
Xposed
Greenify Beta 9
Same problem
Same here, really frustrating.
Same here, I came here to look if there's anyone else with this problem.
I don't want to install amplify just for fb and msn.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
Workaround
This may be a workaround for now but this is what I did: I tapped on Facebook to highlight it. I then tapped the three-dot menu and selected "Put into hibernation now". A popup then showed-up warning of possible data loss or functionality problems. There is a checkbox in the popup for "Always ignore app state". I ticked it and continued. I did the same procedure for Messenger.
They usually get rid of this trick
With Amplify it's ok.. no more drain from messenger..
SAme problem, back to 2.8 and it´s working
Same here now with notification from greenify... ****ing facebook wakes u every 5min... Anoying.. With the only 2gb ram my phone laggs... Lg g3... Anyway. I will uminstall ans see if my phone gets faster
I had the same problem. I installed greenfy free and saw what wakes up my apps... After i installed " Disable Services " and disable two services. It works for me in facebook, i dont know about messenger. Sorry my bad english.

Dump the horrible facebook app and work through the FB web site instead. Or give Hermit a whirl to speed things up even further.

Hi, i will share you what worked in my e2306 to fix the annoying Wifi drain. You need an app that let you disable broadcast receivers like RoomToolBox or MyAndroidTools. We are going to disable some Google Play Services receivers.
Open the app you choose to work, navigate to receivers and then DISABLE the following in GPLAY services app:
SystemUpdateServiceActiveReceiver
SystemUpdateServiceOtaPolicyReceiver
SystemUpdateServiceReceiver
SystemUpdateServiceSecretCodeReceiver
And then reboot.
No need to activate STAMINA mode. No need to choose GPS to power saving, no need to disable WiFi/BT location scan.
Ive tested for like 10 days or so. The overnight drain downed to 2% it was like 7%. Also now battery is as good as in LP fw, 1 and 1/2 day with moderate to heavy usage.
Attached screenshoot of two diferent charge cycles.
Does this sacrifice any functionality / break anything?

As for now, i didnt noticed anything broken, but it might deppend what you do with your device.
I ussualy do the following with my phone:
*Using Google stuff like maps with gps accurate mode, Location history etc.
*Using google chrome and other browsers.
*Using google fit with realtime activity detection.
*Gmail / Email / Sms / Whastapp.
*Some gaming 2D / 3D / Console Emulators.
*The whole time at home WiFi connected, LTE/3g outside. (I never turn off wifi even when im out)
*Xposed with a variety of modules (app settings, apm+, and more..)
*Apps via playstore, music app, camera, weather and clock widgets, Root thingy like KernelAdiutor, Lucky Patcher, fstrimm. A large etc.
I can confirm that all these things seems to work ok, havent had any problem

A few of those were already disabled (perhaps by amplify).
For some reason i had multiple AccountsChangedReceiver from Google Services (all with that same name), with one bieng already disabled, so i left those as they were.
For now everything seems to still work. I'll report if I notice anything. Thanks for the tip!
Hmm so it wasnt only me, i have TWO AccountsChangedReceiver(android.accounts.LOGIN_ACCOUNTS_CHANGED) and one was already disabled before i touch anything, and few others i dont remember. Im going to check by restoring a backup and report here
Makes no difference here.
I did notice a big boost in battery duration. I'd say about 4 hours more. Though of course one should do a serious test to assert this.
I also noticed now playstore won't download updates if the screen is off. I get a message saying background data has been disabled when i turn the screen back on if playstore was downloading something.
Does this happen to you too? Worth it in any case.

Do you use STAMINA?
In my case background data is ok and all the things that deppends of it are working fine, as for playstore i always disable autoupdates and i do them manually to prevent unwanted "new features" you know.. so i cant confims this last one. I never use stamina mode though.
Btw by restoring my backup i got the same result untouching anything but the last 4 receivers ive stated in the post so i dont thing the first 3 that also apperas to be duplicated are relevant, gonna edit it.

I normally don't, although it could've been automatically activated. I just tried downloading an app and turning off the screen for a while (while it was staarting to download). When i turned it back on it actually had installed so perhaps that was random.
Is there any way to do this on a LBL/nonrooted phone? As my BL can't be unlocked, and wifi battery drain is very proeminent, like 1% per 2-3 minutes.
There is no battery drain if you did proper clean install... Just wait for few days it will dissapear from battery list. I am getting 6 hours sot and 2 days battery life
Obivously clean install, stock rom, CE1, using flashtool, wipe user data.

Try MyAndroidTools and go to Broadcast Receiver > system and find out the Google play service, there you'll see the recievers. Hope that will help you

I got a message from Gmail, "Gmail is having trouble with Google play services" after I made the changes in broadcast receiver, any solutions?
Hello,
So I was using Greenify and hibernate Facebook app, but with the last week or so. My facebook app sometime doeasnt load, showing "cant connect right now" and I tried to search google. most issues I've found are Greenify's issue on facebook, especially when facebook got hibernated and woke up for a long time. I had to restart my device to getting facebook working again, ridiculous.
so any workaround on this? As we know that facebook app is the worst battery sucker.
I'm using Resurrection Remix 7.1.2 on Mi 5s Plus, rooted and privileged
Thanks.
Best option is to use one of the 'lite' Facebook alternatives which preserve functionality without the corresponding hit on battery life and data consumption. Also make sure non of Greenify's alternative doze/hibernation modes are enabled (aggressive/deep/shallow) as they are known to create side effects with few, if any, corresponding benefits on Android 6 and above. Good luck.
I use greenify in shallow hibernation mode and Facebook works fine and doesn't eat much battery.
What can I use to check to see what's causing my phone to not go into deep sleep mode at night or during the day. My batter all of the sudden is draining way too fast and almost dies at night.
Inside your settings there should be app called battery/ device health/ digital well being
It keeps track of app usage and battery drainage (this works if you dont have custom mods)
next it could be that your device is running in performance mode the whole time

I have power-saving mode turned off. I'm not sure about the app listed above. I don't see anything in settings. I just installed Better Battery Stats which I used to use a long time ago to see if that can tell me anything.

But better battery stats will use more of your battery since its logging everything, all the time. And has your phone always been draining fast or is this something new?

I know it will but I can at least see what's going on for the short term. No, this just seemed to start about a week ago so I'm trying to figure out what new apps I may have installed.

Leave power management disabled; ID and deal with each battery hog on a case by case basis.
Galaxy Labs Battery Tracker can be useful.
Karma Firewall. Package Disabler (not on Playwhore).
For starters:
Google backup Transport, Framework and Google Firebase... prime suspects.
Playstore, wretched apk it is.
Google play Services is another one to watch, try disabling it. A lot of apps are dependencies of it.
Any cloud apps.
All carrier, Google, Samsung and app feedback
WhatsApp, FB, etc, take out the trash.
Carrier update app, kill it if you don't want OTA updates jammed down your throat.

Would it be possible to explain to me why have an S21 if not to deactivate everything and make it a Nokia 3310. Stop using a smartphone, I have the solution ........... .
And if you have twrp and copy your system and vendore partition files to your pc you can also look in the priv-app section and their xmls to include apps to not run always
