Have you installed the device drivers for your phone? If you haven't I would recommend downloading the device drivers for your phone from here. If you have already installed the device drivers for your phone I would recommend uninstalling then reinstalling the device drivers for your phone. Also, is the usb cable a decent quality cable and are you able to connect other devices to your computer (And Windows recognizes them) using this cable?
Thank you for your feedback and yes ive been through the motions of uninstalling amd reinstalling the drivers multiple times. The cable im using is for an LG smartphone and its in mint condition . It alsocworks with other devices except mine. My samsung would have a usb icon pop up on the phone whenever a connection is made but now it just charges.

You could also try using a different usb cable and also make sure your plugging your phone into a USB 2.0 port as sometimes USB 3.0 ports can be problematic. Another thing you could try that very likely won't make a difference but you could try is going into developer settings and making sure USB debugging is enabled.
Ive tried every usb port on my laptop and i tried the usb debugging feature but nothing seems to be working. I will get a new usb cable specifically for my phone to see if it makes a difference because im running out of options.

Try a new USB cable I used a PSP USB cable for a while when my HTC hero USB cable stopped working properly. Just find some more USB cables and test them all.

You probably damaged the USB controller with ESD. You can try another USB port, but it's likely that all the ports are damaged (at least all the ports on that controller). Check the other ports on the PC. Most modern PCs have at least a couple of USB hubs built in. It is possible that a port on another hub or controller may work. Otherwise, you might be able to use a USB add in card in the computer if all the built-in ports are dead. They are relatively cheap if you have the slot in the machine to install one.

mount to PC is a known issue methinks. What is your current setup? Rom/kernel? and how are your settings? USB debugging set on/off? auto connect set to "ask on connection"?

Its common with the 2.2.1 roms. What you need to do is replace the vold.conf, and the vold.fstab files in system/ect. I have attached the ones you need. Just use root explorer and drop them in the ect folder, reboot, and test.

you should download toolbox from development section and the first option is to install drivers. once u run the program. install it and then test the usb cables. by the way i never charge my phone from a computer i like separate chargers so im using the charger for BB to charge my battery. its quicker as well.

I installed numerous ROMs and reinstalled the PC drivers, but I still have the same problem. Could it be a hardware issue, or a problem with the USB cable?

Try using a different cable, and/or a different usb port.

I guess if it was a hardware issue then it wouldn't charge either...try different machine...or go to CWM and see if u can mount from there...
Hey, so when I try to connect my GS2 to the computer (via USB), it doesn't connect for some reason. After connecting it, it takes about 5 secs and it starts to charge but doesn't connect to the computer. I've tried a couple of different ROMs and also on 2 other computers and its the same result. I need help please. Thanks
First make sure drivers are installed if so then try another cable that could be the problem.

You are missing the drivers. Search via Google for the hardware ID or simply by the model of the phone.

I have had the drivers installed, and I tried my brother's HTC usb cable and it still doesn't work.
My thread is right above yours. There are USB port issues with this phone. Although I feel for you, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. If you have insurance take it back cuz it only gets worse. Flash stock while you still can, if you're not already running it. Trust me.

Same problem here and replacement is on the way, phone randomly thinks its charging, car mode turning on and such buy it is nice to know also that I am not the only one
When I connect my Samsung Vibrant to the computer it says unknown device can't connect. Under device manger 2 USB have erros. But the phone will charge. This is a list of stuff I tryed so far, but have had no luck to fix the issue.
THE LIST
I tryed to connect to 3 other computers -same result-unknown device
I have tryed 3 USB cords(The all been tested and working)
Made sure USB settings were check and says ask on connection
Uninstall Samsung drivers off the computer. Reinstalled new drivers from Samsung web site.- no luck
I have uninstalled drivers and installed Samsung kies with drivers- No luck
I have uninstalled all Samsung drivers, all USB drivers, powered down the computer and unplugged it for 2 min to reset devices . After reboot and tryed to connect. Still says unknown device, failed to connect.
I tryed to reflash a Rom through CWM. With the new rom it Still the same, unknown device.Failed to connect
I have reformatted the external SD card..still no luck.
I have deleted clockwork mod folder. Reinstalled CWM.- No luck
I even ran windows fix it on the USB.
I have unstalled Microsoft essential antivirus off my computer -thinking it was blocking it.- No luck
I went as far as disabled firewall - no change
I know its not the computers with any issue. My buddy came over and connected to all 3 my computers with out any problems. Same phone Samsung Galxay S T959
If any one else has any ideals on what else I can try or knows how to fix it. I will be so greatful. Thank you for your time to read this.

try different USB cable
I think you said you did this but make sure usb debugging is enabled. Go to settings, click applications and then click development and make sure usb debugging is checked. You have done everything I would recommend doing. I used to have the same exact issue. My phone would charge but I could not connect to the computer, my friends vibrant connected fine though (weird). What fixed it for me was a new usb cable from the tmobile store, it costs around $15. They have a 30 day return policy, if it doesn't work you can just take it back. I was really close to replacing my usb port on my phone but I figured I would try a cable from tmobile first and it worked thankfully. If a new cable doesn't fix it then you may have to replace your usb port unfortunately. I recommend www.mobiletechvideos.com if you end up having to replace your usb port, good luck.

I also have multiple usb cables but the only one that works is the cable from the tmobile store. All four of my other cables work fine on my friends vibrant too. Like I said in the post above yours, you can always take it back if it doesn't work either. If that's the case then you could try cleaning your phone's usb port with a Qtip and some isopropyl alcohol.

Does your pc recognizes your mobile connected when in recovery... you have tried almost all possibilities so i have no idea... You can try flashing stock rom and then format(factory reset) whole device...

I wanted to start this thread to avoid cluttering up the unofficial cm10.1 thread.
I've tried everything I can think of to connect over usb. Turned on android debugging, off fast charge, mass storage on, tried mounting from recovery, multiple usb cables, multiple computers. Downloaded kies in both computers which I'm under the impression installs the necessary drivers.
I'm unsure where to go from here.

When you have it plugged in, does it show up in the Device Manager? (I'm assuming you are on Windows)
It does not in either computer. Scanning for new devices still doesn't show up. Running Windows 7 and 8 separate computers. No notification on my phone either.
