I was working on my wife's note 2 last night, modifying the phone to use a wireless charging pad. Everything went fine and the phone charges correctly. However, now the large home button on the front of the phone quit working. It doesn't take you back to the home screen or bring up recent apps if you long press it. I've gone back into the phone and can't see any problems or disconnected wires. Another really odd thing.......when you plug in the micro USB cord the recent apps menu pops up!
Any help here is greatly appreciated!!

Some more information would be helpful. First modifying a phone to use a wireless chatting pad ??? Why and what for. Second. Did you actually take the phone apart ("I was working on ..... ") ? Third it sounds like you have shorted out a cable. Plugging in the charger and activating the long press feature sounds too me like when you put the phone back together, the button was not seated corrected, and when you plug in the charger, the pressure from pushing it in is making the connection, or there is a short. Take the phone back part and make sure that the button is seated properly in the socket.

Doh..."chatting" pad. Darned auto correct. Should have read "charging" pad.

I removed the bezel/backplate of the phone and made a 1cm x 1cm cutout to expose the wireless charging contact points. And the bezel/backplate comes off pretty easily after removing the 9 or so tiny screws. It just snaps off. There aren't any wires or anything attached to it. The home button is below another piece of plastic that I didn't have to mess with. However, I removed that piece of plastic this morning to see if anything appeared out of the ordinary there. Nothing to really see and the button is not even accessable yet.
I'm stumped. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!!

I don't really know much about taking phones apart and whatnot, but for the time being just download the app "Button Savior". You are most likely aware of this app but this can just help for the short run. And as far as this goes, have you tried buying a new home button and installing that? It's quite clear that the mod is causing the issues, never heard of something like this. How easy would it be to revert the effects of the mod in the device itself?
Actually, I'd never heard of that app before! Thanks so much for suggesting it. I never would have thought there would be an app to do that. It did the trick until I can figure out what's going on with the physical button.

The mod is to remove the back plate/bezel (not the battery cover) from the phone and make a small cutout exposing the contacts for the wireless reciever, that are on the main board. For some reason the phones come from Samsung with the wireless contact point hidden. So there is nothing to reverse or undo. I have removed the wireless charging reciever pad, just in case it was causing a problem.
As for replacing the home button......I may go that route if I can find one. I'm not sure how to acess it, though. As you can see in the video, you don't actually expose the home button or anything to do with it.

I think it is for attaching a stylus.You just loop the thread through it and close the cover.
It's meant for a wristband. You can buy the accessory, loop it through that hole, and then close the back cover (so it never falls off).
Are you sure about it...?
I think you're wrong,
the wristband/small things you put on your phone like small dolls is the yellow square
this one is something different.
It its a connector for an external gsm antenna. However be warned, do not plug any thing in to it as others have reported this will disable the internal antenna and you will not get a signal afterwards without a visit to a service centre or some soldering.

I've seen that type of connector on other phone's in the past. I always thought it was for an external antenna. I'm not sure though.

Please help, I miss my tablet.I had the common problem with the power thingy inside the tablet going out so i opened it to solder but did not fix.So i ordered the charging dock and waited for a month and a half.I get it today and was so excited to only plug it it and got power and charging everything is perfect,i go to swipe over on my arrow to unlock the screen and nothing!I have no touch controls on screen what so ever.But the soft keys work,they do not do me any good but they work.The home key takes me to my home page and mag glass goes to the internet.Does any body have any ideas of what could have happened or what i can do to fix this,please????

First, check for disconnected or loose cables inside the gTab.
Next, if it isn't a HW fault like loose cables, then connect the USB cable to the gTab and run this ADB command (you will have to install and set up ADB if you haven't already done so):

The attached pdf contains photos of the digitizer/cables and their connections inside the gtab. Check for loose connection and/or broken wires on both ends.

Ok,First thank you so much for helping.Ok,One of the cables you shown does have two broken wires,it is the kind of short wire with black cloth like material over it that runs unde the shiny brown plastic piece.Is there a way to fix that or rig it to get me back up and touching again?Thank you again for helping me out,and you already pinpointed my problem,now i am hoping you can fix it,lol.

I assume since you didn't send in under warranty for the power connector that it's no longer under warrantly!
Exactly where is the break? Close to (or at) one of the connectors? Which end (motherboard end or digitizer end) of the cable? Obviously closness to the connector makes it more difficult. I have seen a post where another use had the break pretty close to the connector & fixed it though.

If you magnify the digitizer circuit (lower photo in the pdf) you will see the label for each of the lines in the cable. Assuming the lines run straight thru, it looks like the ones that broke are the power & ground to the circuit (VSS & GND). That would explain the touch screen not working at all.
Hard to tell from the video where the breakis, but it looks real close to the connector.
Your best bet may be looking for someone who has a broken digitizer (outer glass) or gTab and is selling it for parts. I looked in the Marketplace forum here on XDA & there is one non working gtablet someone is asking $55 for. I also saw another one up for bid on ebay ($40 latest bid). You my have to ask if the cable is good on them.
Not a whole lot of options for repair. As you've already experienced, the cable is small & fragile.
If the connector has removable pins then you could remove the pins, solder the wire to it & reinsert the pins, BUT from the picture it doesn't look like they are removeable.
You could solder the 2 wires to the pins coming out the back of the socket but they look too small to easily solder to.
The last option would be to rigg the cable to work. There are a couple of possibilites but I would rather you consider the other options before suggesting a repair of the cable itself. If you can, see if you can take a closeup, high res photo of the back fo the connector where the wire broke. PM me & I'll send you my email address to send it too.

Its amazing what a couple of stripped bread ties will doo,lol.I took a bread tie and stripped the paper off of it,cut it to the length I needed and wrapped the remaining wire to one end and pushed the other end of the tie inside the pin hole,lol.It worked like a champ! MY Grab has been up and running for over a month,I just knocked on my coffee table,lol.Thank you for helping me out I really appreciated you trying everything to help me.I am so happy to have it back,now if I can just figure out why I keep seeing black boxes on my games when I play them I will really be doing fine.Thank you again.
I just got this old phone from my friend after he upgraded. It's a solid phone but I'm having 2 issues.
1. The power button doesn't have the nice clicking feel to it. I opened the phone up and discovered the power button was one that I have not seen before. Is this button soldered onto the board? I would like to replace it myself, I have tried looking up power button fixes but was not able to find any results with this particular button type. It's usually the ribbon cable type deal with the flat disk contact kinda deal. Any idea where I can find some instructions and the buttons themselves?
2. I have a problem with the phone not powering down. After shutting the phone down the phone boots right back up or the screen shows the charging animation. Also the screen never goes into sleep mode it only goes into the dim mode. I looked up this problem and it seems to be a common one, a problem with the micro usb slot. I ordered the whole usb slot and the board its attached to. My question for this one is how difficult is the install?

I just replaced the screen one of my i777's. I followed this great guide my LE55ONS on YouTube. It was for I i9100, but they are almost the same phone. Along the way in the video he explains how to replace everything in the phone, including the microUSB board and flex cable, which if i remember was a pretty easy fix. As for the power button, i would try maybe putting a little piece of paper or cardboard or foam or something inside the phone right next to the button, that might make it more ferm when pushed.

Thanks for the reply, yes I saw the video too, it was helpful but that dang power button is so mushy it feels horrible. A little update though I was able to fix the micro usb port by cleaning it with a brush then bending the pins towards the screen, it appears that over time the row of pins gets pushed too far down and shorts the assembly. Power problems fixed but not the power button. Only place I can find that even has the power button repair service is mobiletechvideos

Title says it all really. I dropped it, but it had the keyboard attached and closed, it didn't fall far. However, now it won't turn on at all. If I hold down the power button, it will vibrate for half a second after I hold it down for about 10 seconds, but it doesn't turn on. Nothing appears on the screen.
It's completely stock, not even rooted. Does anyone have ideas?
The LCD screen ribbon cable has mostly come loose. This happen to mine when my son accidentally dropped my prime. Easiest way to confirm this is if you have a micro HDMI cable. Just plug the tablet into a TV and see if you have a picture. If you do then it is the LCD ribbon cable. The battery sits right under the screen ribbon cable and all it takes it a drop and a shift movement of the battery and the cable becomes unplugged. Just take the back cover off the tablet using the updated videos on XDA on how to disassemble the tablet. I used a little pick and two credit cards. The back cover comes off pretty easy and it is real easy to do - REALLY EASY. You will then see the ribbon cable above the battery. Just plug it back in better and secure it with tape. Power on the tablet if you want to check your work. If it works then reverse the steps taken to open up the tablet and you are done. While your in there you can tighten up the "screen" screws if you have screen light bleed too. Hope this helps you.

I think you are right! I plugged in the HDMI cable and got a signal.

This is the link (How to is disassemble your prime) I used. Worked like a charm to open the tablet up without destroying it up or marring it. Also look at the posts of replacing the screen. You can see the LCD ribbon cable in the pictures. Hope this helps.

Got my LGOG to see if digitizer was loose or what not. Do you have to completely reassemble(screws included to get power on? I'd rather know it works before having to put back together. Anybody have any clarification about this? Thanks ^_^

as long as all the separate boards are connected to each other properly (if you had to disconnect them) you don't need to fully reassemble it.
As long as it has power from the battery connector, you're good. screws dont matter. just be careful depending on how much of it you have hanging free outside of the case (if any)
the back cover connections are only antennas for NFC and WiFi so they dont need to be connected either.
-edit- the very bottom l shaped one with the speaker is the main antenna, I don't think even that needs to be connected, it might throw a fit in the software but you won't hurt the hardware with that not connected, but its only a press fit plug anyway so..
