HTC One Sense vs Nexus version - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

Hey guys,
I know the nexus version of the HTC One (T-mobile) is coming out in a few days but was wondering whether there is anything I would be missing out on if I had the nexus version.
Even upon doing lots of research, it seems like Sense 5 is very good but I wanted your guy's experiences. (ex: one of the links I read:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/121382-htc-one-google-edition-vs-htc-one-what-s-the-difference)
Is there any advantage of waiting for the nexus version of the HTC One (T-mobile) and the current version? What are the things I should consider?
I was looking around at the ROMs for the T-Mobile HTC One, and none of them seemed to have Sense 5...so is sense really that bad / worse than stock?
Thanks so much!

You'll miss so much if you buy the regular Tmobile One! You'll miss not having Zoe, blinkfeed, wifi calling, htc remote, and all the sense improvements that you can easily disable by simply flashing a different rom...
I think it's silly that they made a vanilla One, you get the same phone but none of the surprisingly nice software that HTC made for it. It's like buying a "special" pair of shoes, and by "special" I mean they don't come with shoelaces.

I have used the HTC remote feature several times once set up works perfectly, also I don't think the camera will be as good seeing as technically it is 4.3mp with out the software enhancements it might be crappy as well the WiFi calling comes in handy so much and I had the nexus 4 on T-Mobile HTC one in my opinion is smoother than stock which is hard to find they did really well with every aspect of this phone

Hm.
But I was worried about the fact that updates are super slow to come from Tmobile.
We aren't even at 4.2.2 yet and if Sense 5 is so great how come we don't have Sense 5 roms in the development sections? (side note, what is "android development" vs "ORIGINAL android development").
I figured if Sense 5 was so good and better than stock, then we would have lots of Sense 5 roms.
Thanks!

There are a lot of sense 5 roms,And good ones I've been using sense 5 roms running 4.2.2 and couldn't be happier,a few good ones to check out are (venom)vipor, trickdroid, sentinel, opencoin plus quite a few more these are just the ones I ran and use the venom as my daily driver and love it so much this Rom is so customizable it'll blow your mind and stable, fast I just live it plus great dev abd support again I wouldnt give up my ir,camera software,BoomSound plus more for vanilla android

I see...do the M7 roms work or are you referring to our roms in the T-mobile HTC One sections? (I guess when I searched the titles and front pages of the roms, I didn't find anything when I searched "sense").

Well, you can do what I did... and I really like Sense 5 with one exception: we can only scroll left to right, and right to left. No continuous scroll. So I installed Nova Launcher, the sunbeam live wallpaper, and an analog clock. Look and feel is like GPE, but I still have an icon to get into blink feed, And I still have Zoe and Video highlights.
Try it.

HTC Sense on SGS2?

I know some XDA devs tried before to port Sense on SGS without real success, but now that the Sensation is totally locked and that lot of HTC devs will get the SGS2 instead perhaps that the pros of Sense roms will port Sense 3.0 on SGS2...What do you think?
I would love sense 3.0 on sgs2 as well. Am pretty sure the hardware is fully capable

That would be great. The locked bootoader of the HTC Sensation will be one reason for me to switch to the Galaxy I9100. To keep the good Sense experience would be a nice gadget.
Cheers Lars
I posted this in another thread but.. I really like this idea. I know its hard but it works. If the milestone with it's locked bootloader can run sense 2.0 then SGSII definitely can. it just needs the right developers.
Because of the locked Bootloader I had to buy the SGS2 instead the Sensation, but I have to say, Touch Wiz is no Match for Sense. Missing it and would love to see that excellent Userexperiênce on the SGS2.

Sgs 2 + sense 3.0 = dream!
unfortunately porting sense isnt as easy as it was for the WM version..

I'd like to see this too, just switched from a HTC Desire running sense 2.1/3.0 to a SGS2 and touchwiz is beaten hands down. The contacts and dialer app is the best I've come across on android, way better than stock/touchwiz/GoContacts
I was actually thinking about this question yesterday and was wondering if anybody made a thread about it yet... well I guess this answers my question of the day then.
If this gains enough interest im sure people will be willing to work on it. I have seen videos of sense 2.0 on a SGS and motorola milestone, so lets hope for the best

I would love to see this too! I miss sense bad! Touch wiz or any third party launcher can't compare in my eyes.
wonder if we can port this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044637&highlight=sense
#Many other phones have got sense 3.0 port.. is it more diffucult to port to non-htc phonrs?
Sense is the best android ui imho, i would definitely love to see it ported on my sgs2
I would love to have sense on my sgs2. I mean touch wiz is ok but sense is much nicer imo. I wouldn't be able to do anything to help, although I would, and I'm sure many others would, make a donation to any one willing. It wouldn't be much though I'm a poor student lol

ive just come from a hd2 with coredriod NAND sense rom....and I do miss sense!but the phone is the dogs...fancy widget for the weather and clock, looks identical to HTCs, sense would be good tho!
Partner has Desire S and it does have a lovely interface, but I actually like TouchWiz 5
New Touchwiz improved a lot but Sense is still much much better I think.. I hope someone ports this over..
Sense is build on Rosie UI and it's directly related to HTC hardwares, like if it searchs for an ''HTC signed'' screen or BT module.
Though like we always says in software world and more specially in Linux...nothing is impossible!
You need devs who can break the links between Rosie (damn junkie lady) and HTC hardware to replace them with samsung ones.
Also it would be easier to build Sense over a standar gingerbread rom than over Touchwiz
The Nexus S galaxysense dev says the galaxysense team is close to getting data working, meaning almost all hardware will work already, I hope we will see a sgs2 port soon too

Chance of Sense ports?

Hey guys.
Am still being torn between the Sensation and the Galaxy S 2 and, although I'm inclining towards the GS2,I still have some issues. Two of them are the biggest:
Plastic body(can live with that) and the absence of Sense(made a rime there! ).
As for the second one, what do you guys think?I saw two days ago that Sense 2.1 has been ported almost fully to the Nexus S,so why wouldn't the GS2 be able to run, say,Sense 3?
Seriously though, imagine this beast and Sense 3.Magic!If it is possible,I'm most probably sold!

same for me, i'm now a few weeks without sense, and neither launcher pro nor any of the other launchers are comfortable or "smooth" in the same way sense was...
i'm sure it would be possible to port sense to sgs2, but i think this would be a lot of hard work. without some dedicated devs there is absolutely no chance.
in the meanwhile i'm enjoying the sgs2 very much, the hardware is way ahead of anything HTC could offer at the moment - the overall user experience is almost superb...
what do you guys miss because im not understanding. It doesnt offer the same functionality with sense on past Winmo devices. Im not trying to be rude but help me understand what you guys are missing. Is it the eyecandy or flipclock?
I'm curious..
Don't misinterpret the tone of what I'm about to ask.. I assure you it is merely an inquiry..
If people love the sense UI why wouldn't they just exclusively by HTC devices?
Again, don't get me wrong.. I've used Sense (HTC Touch Pro) and Touch Wiz (Captivate, Vibrant, and soon SGS II) and I too miss the integrated prettiness of SenseUI but SenseUI isn't gonna happen on a non-HC device.. I'd venture to say ever.. (If I'm in error here please correct me) Sure I know we cannot predict tomorrow but I've read way too many threads where people have tried and as with most cases with attempted ports there's just too much custom code related to Sense to port to a non-Sense environment.
I'd LOVE to see native SenseUI on a Galaxy class device.. Sadly I doubt we ever will..

Well,I want real power this time, that's why I'm turning to the Sam side!
Seriously though,I'd buy HTC again but all my smartphones have been HTC,so I kinda want a break.
What do I like in Sense?Mmm...Never had to answer that one before!Well, for me it's like they took all the good characteristics of other launchers and put them together in a nice,feature-packed(and resource-heavy however)interface.
Well,guess I'll try a detox...

CM and MIUI are infinitely more important to me than Sense. If I wanted HTC's restrictive UI on my GS2 I would have bought a HTC instead.
Anyway, I doubt you will see a proper port of Sense and all it's required libraries any time soon. They have only just managed to get a usable version on the Galaxy and that phone is over a year old.

I'm not sure so much that it is lag. But if i have the same setup on launcherpro and sense and the same animation, the launcherpro just looks SOO MUCH smoother. THink it's something to do with the fps?
I'm curious as well. WHAT is it about Sense that everyone wants? I come from a WM background so for us it's that WM is ****ty and Sense provides a pretty and functional (or as functional as we can get) interface to the user. Android, however, is BRILLIANT and has plenty of apps and launchers and what not that it doesn't need you to have ANOTHER interface controlling everything. Isn't it a blessing not to have sense??
I'd really like to hear your guys opinions.
I think so, seeing as I got bored of it. and switched to launcherpro after a few months, however this was on my first ever android phone and I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a UI overlay for android! If I'd known you could get replacement launchers from the market I would have done it much earlier!

I agree with the dialer and Widgets. But it hasn't got the best of everything else. Not to mention thr fact that there are better Widgets on the market. I've been using a custimizable, scrolling Calender for a long time now on launcherpro.
And don't know about sense 3 but the gallery on my desire really isn't amazing. Its pretty average and takes a llong time to load images.

[Off Topic] What do you think of Sense 5?

What do you think about the leaked screenshots of Sense 5?

I personally think the dialer for sure looks way better than in Sense 4. Hopefully this will be ported whenever some Roms come out! *wishfulthinking*
Looks like some of the keyboard themes I've already come across in the past year.
I have yet to see a stable sense 4.5 (ignoring the 3D), and you are already dreaming of sense 5? Gonna take a loong while. Also, there are literally thousands of keyboards out there, i am pretty sure you can find one like that if you would search

I actually like the new sense ui. Not really a big fan of sense anymore since I went with aosp jellybean ROM. From the leeked specs I'm practically drooling over the hardware specs and new sense now lol. Giving the variety of carrier options I hope to see it come to Verizon and switch over to that phone when it comes out.

Used to be a huge fan of Sense( loved the Sense keyboard predictions in my language), but since I tried JB 4.2.1 AOKP, the old boy sense doesn't make any sense anymore. Also I will not change my phone until the poor thing dies. I saw some pics with sense 5, nice, but as someone said, we may wait some time until is available for evo via XDA ofc, or maybe we won't have Sense5 at all.

In leaked screenshots it does look a bit nicer and more professional look rather than that childish iOS-ish look but for some reason i really don't like the Browser & Camera icon, the Text and Phone icons look good tough.
I like the new jellybean 4.2.1 . Im running dastins cm 10.1 stable as hell with all features working minus the occasional glitches in video camcorder.
Some lucky b has sense 5 already

I have 2 One's. Both were stock ATT. Now one is a Dev Edition with 4.3 Sense 5 (64GB model), and the other is now pure GPE (32 GB model). I can tell you this without hesitation, the GPE smokes the other for "smoothness" and accuracy, and the Dev edition battery is dead, while the GPE is still at 60% after one full day of playing side by side. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Sense and BlinkFeed, but no, the GPE is the clear winner here.
I absolutely love HTC sense! Definitely sets the One apart compared to other Android offerings. I'm running stock AT&T (not rooted) and battery life is amazing!

I prefer Sense over Stock, I have used "stock" with my s2, nexus 4 and now nexus 7, but it gets kinda boring.
I'm a massive fan of 3 things:
1. Zoe
2. Blinkfeed
3. The ability to hide apps
I ran CyanogenMod and stock on my S3, S4, and even my One, and have never been happier with an OEM overlay than I am with Sense 5.0. Stoked about 5.5!
Custom sense?
The HTC One is my first android smartphone so I guess I just need clarification. Are there custom ROMs with Sense included?
That could be a dumb question...but only one way to find out.
I really enjoy Sense but I feel like my battery life is taking a hit from it.

Is LG or the G2 the worst for flash-addicts

Is the G2 the worst phone for flashing? Most G2 ROMS are alpha or beta a year and half later. Now it could be a LG thing because the G3 doesn't seem to be much better. Given the track record with this phone would any of you actually think about a Flex 2 or G4?

Good phone, but i dont see it like some nice "upgrade" from g2.....
The thing is that htc phone have been getting modded for a long time now. With the likes of AndroidRevolutionHD (ARHD), Insertcoin, Venom (formerly pokemon rom i think) these guys have been working on htc phones for years and know htc sense well, coupled with unlockable bootloaders and htc's usually great build quality these developers have no real need to move elsewhere. They do great work just as our developers do but our developers have a different ball game to play. Locked bootloaders are a dev headache. Delayed source code is a headcahe. While the roms may be beta and alpha here its not fair to say this phone/oem is bad for flashing as the developers may not want to leave beta before all bugs are fixed (and some bugs can be damn stubborn). This coupled with the speed google releases new android versions and peoples lust to have the latest and greatest time for development roms often get left as beta/stable and people move on to the next port/source compile of android. I find alot of the time beta roms are perfectly acceptable for daily drivers but my logic would suggest if theres a bug it should be beta (although oems dont seem to obide to that ). Not to mention to alot of people this is a hobbie not a job, life gets in the way of hobbies.
With that said, i do agree that the m8 doesnt feel like much of a step up from here. Maybe you should hang around here flashing roms until the next HTC upgrade comes along and jump to that? At this point i think its fair to say that the latest htc phone will be supported by the big teams, it will most likely gain s-off and support multirom and the forums will most likely be rammed as usual with people who are new and not so eager to read before flashing

Well said :good:
Far from it. With the LG G2, there are probably more unique options than any other (non-nexus) phone. It can run the skinned G2 software, stock or tweaked. You can flash the skinned G3 software with an updated look. You can flash the LG Flex software. You can run Stock Android in 4.4.4 or 5.0.2 as it's similiarities with the Nexus 5 makes it easier to develop.
I will concede that within skinned roms, the updates are rarer... that will most likely change in the next two months as LG's Official 5.0 updates will go through more optimization until it works as a dev thinks it should.

I think the HTC flagships having the GPE editions give them an advantage if you don't like dealing with hardware compatibility issues the CM, AOSP etc ROMS can have.
The # of models of the G2 doesn't help much.. Daily CM 12's right now for just the one edition IIRC?
I had many HTC phones and the main thing is they abandon their phones quickly. Or at least they did as of One X+. Every phone, we'd have the promise of official firmware for a new version of android and at the last minute the phone would be eol'd.
I guess the gpe phones might help porting new stock firmware? Not sure since I left HTC after the one x+. Also, I found HTC phones bricked easy and unbricking was difficult.
But man, sense has always looked the best, and viper rom is always amazing.
But I like lg because the stock firmware doesn't even make me want to mod it. Every other brand I've had (Sony, Motorola), the stock firmware left something to be desired.

My previous phone was HTC One X, HTC said they wanted to update it to 4.4.2 but nvidia dropped support for its tegra socket, so they didnt have drivers to do that, but i see that htc one m7 is doing good, it will get lolipop till end of next month, so i think they got better with updates, at least thats almost 2 years of fast updates what you want more? Even google haven't updated their galaxy nexus cuz of dropped socket support...

I think the HTC flagships having the GPE editions give them an advantage if you don't like dealing with hardware compatibility issues the CM, AOSP etc ROMS can have.
The # of models of the G2 doesn't help much.. Daily CM 12's right now for just the one edition IIRC?

I've heard the Verizon model has super sweet CM12 support and everything just amazing works perfectly. I haven't tried it yet but there are several Lollipop roms for the VS980 model, which is what I have and follow dev for.
The amount of number of various models doesn't help, although by now most roms support all variants with options to select your model for the fine tweaks each different model requires. The only model that has issues is the Verizon one using generic roms. It seems the stock Messaging app doesn't like to do MMS (I think because Verizon uses IMS). Not that there are road blocks. Lots of ports have fine tuned Verizon editions with everything working. I am personally loving the G3 Verizon rom port. It has everything I want/need and no issues.
I agree that the LG G2 does have plenty of options to choose from and it isn't just Stock or AOSP or CM.
I would not see any problem with my flash addict, if camera quality weren't that bad on AOSP roms. It's the only reason why I'm not swapping roms like crazy. I hope Lollipop will somehow change it (dreaming).
Coming from the Rezound and then the Razr MAXX HD, the G2 is My Flash Dream!!!! Roms, kernels, and mods- the ease of it all is ridiculously great(specially being virtually unbrickable)!
Actually I disagree. Yes G2 is not the best in the field of development and flashing but compared to many other flagships, I prefere it. Take a look at development section of exynous version of samsung flagships. Also there is no bootloader lock or knox or... Here
So that's one of the reasons after messing around with a few phones, including note3, nexus 5, G3 and one m7, I came back to g2

When flashing pay attention to model/variant you have, you can end with brick if you select wrong model.
I would not call it the worst phone but it definitely doesn't have the support the old school Galaxy S2 Skyrocket have, I'm still flashing on that thing even though I'm not using. G2 has a ton of alpha and beta roms but very few official stable roms. I'm almost ready to go back to iPhone if these Android phones keep having short-lived ROM support

I suggest you stick to Nexus devices, which is what I'll do once I sell my G2. They tend to have the best action, but I have yet to see a new community with the variety of ROMs that the HTC G1 had...

totally hoping that the new rumors that LG will build a Nexus phone are true, and hoping it will be a real phone and that stupid Nexus 6
