me too having the same problem .

Sounds like it might be a software bug
Sounds like a software bug. Try to re-log into your Wi-Fi and then power cycle your phone (turn it off and on). If that doesn’t help then look into a full backup and factory data reset.
If it is a software bug, which from your description, it kind of sounds like then a factory data reset should clean it right up. You might even notice a performance boost as well. Just make sure that you back your phone up first, you don’t want to lose anything.
Good Luck Chinu9, come back and let us know if it worked.

Maybe an IP conflict

Braking connection via WiFi and freeze on lockscreen caused by WiFi

Hello,
I became a proud owner of S3. As it usually happens to me there is the problem. Namely, from time to time problem happens to me when I'm using any web browser or anything that requires an Internet connection. Say for example Opera. I'm browsing pages and suddenly ... BOOM ... 3-5 second pause in the connection over WiFi (energy saving is off and in WiFi settings - I did it via code, in the service menu). Sometimes Internet connection breaks when I'm browsing menu or writing an SMS. For example: I browse the menu and suddenly I see - WiFi stamp disappears and after a while there is info about that phone is connected again. This is the first problem.
The phone is lying, WiFi operates in the background. When I Pick up the phone and when I'm clicking home (or power) button I get the lock screen and. .. freeze. Phone is disconnected from WiFi and only time the phone reconnects to WiFi I can unlock the screen.
On what ROM were the problems? On the Stock LF2, ROOTed LF2, Omega 7.1 - 9.0 and AOKP Milestone6.
And also it does not work automatic refresh of weather (at 1 h interval) on stock widget (the Samsung weather widget).
Sorry for my bad English.
Why couldn't you have just set your wifi to never turn off in settings, wifi, advanced.....it's practically the same thing....I wouldn't be messing around with the service menu. I would wipe data/factory reset and start again bud but this time, stay away from the service menu as it's for technicians and phone repairs etc I've not once touched the service menu....
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app
I found the same problem ever since I upgraded to LH3 (the latest official release at this moment). The lock screen is frozen if: I had the WiFi Switched On, screen off either manually or timeout, then disconnected (say if I walk away from the wifi service area). When I press Power or Home button to wake the device, the lock screen is frozen.
Seems no freeze if wifi remains connected. Seems no freeze if wifi power saving mode is off (disabled via *#0011# (but setting won't stay if unit is power off).
Did both Cache wipe (didn't do factory reset) but makes no difference. Tried "never turn off" also makes no difference (probably because it will turn off anyway when connection is dropped)
The upgrade seems worser than before...
Any hints please...
This seems to be common but not always the same fix, my wifi constantly drops out and reconnects immediately (ruining any downloads/streaming) , i have tried the service mode, factory reset, different kernels, sleep time, static IP's, JB vs ICS Roms / Stock roms, you name it i have tried it and it STILL is doing it. Weird thing is..dont think it dropped out and reconnected when i was stock and unrooted, but as i said, tried stock rom and to no avail
Any ideas?

Hi, I am having the same problem again after not having this problem for a month or 6.
I qas having this problem on my note when on gb and now on cm10.1 but the problem never occured in an custom ics or jb rom.
So I recommend; use a custom ics or jb rom to solve this problem
Cheers,

I have this issue on my galaxy note N7000, and only recently for like a month now and on various different ROMs all JB. Any updates on what the cause could be?
Go full unrooted stock and send the phone in for warranty repair. It's the smartest thing to do if a problem persists after lots of ROM switching and factory resetting.

That's would be the smartest thing to do, indeed. But... Warranty expired centuries ago.
Any clue what is causing this not uncommon problem?

Try visiting a(not crowded) place with public Wi-Fi, and see if the issue persists.
If it starts to work fine, get a new router, preferably with 802.11n support. If you buy a N compatible router, check all of your Wi-Fi capable devices for N support, and if one of them doesn't, make them N compatible(if it's a computer, get a new N compatible Wi-Fi card or USB reciever, if it's something else, well, you can't do anything else other than buying a newer version of it with N support, or not using that device's Wi-Fi feature at all) because your router will operate at an older mode even if one of your devices doesn't support N.

s3 wifi not working

I updated to OTA jb 4.1.1 3-4 days ago
till yesterday, wifi was working normal but from today morning I see some weird problem.
When i try to connect my phone to my home's wifi, it gets connected. After that I open any internet based app, for the first time it works. then the internet stops.
I mean the wifi symbol is still there on the status bar but. it doesn't work.
I can't open any web pages, i have to turn wifi on-off to make it works, after loading one page it stops again.
But internet from the pc is working.
I tried restarting, keeping battery out for sometime, nothing happens.
What should i do?

I have same problem as you have, like it took me sometime to finally figure it out. Try resetting your router. You see this small hole at the back of the router, hold & press it for about 20-30 seconds. Your router will now be restored to its factory settings, then connect your S3 & voila! your device is good to go.
I had the same problem at home once, I tried everything from wiping caches to reinstalling my rom. Turned out it was my router so yeah the guys above are probably correct.

Did you ever try pressing the router hole for about 20-3- seconds? If it still didn't work, try manually input the your static IP. That worked too with me,
I don't have idea about static ip
And I've seen, while my screen is on. . WiFi remains connected and if I lock screen even for a second. .WiFi goes off

Hi, Had same issue with WiFi, was doing my head in.
Problem for me was bad update from the OTA update,
go into recovery and factory reset wipe data, and cache, if still no luck then
your best solution which worked for me was download the full Samsung Official Firmware Stock from samfirmware (Google it)
and use odin to redo the phone.
Hope you get sorted. :good:
Go somewhere else with available WiFi, try connecting, if you succeed with no following issues, it's your WiFi router, if you can't connect to any other available WiFi, it's your phone, reflash ROM and test.
Have you tried turning power save mode off. In the dialer dial *#0011# then press menu button then WiFi then where it says on, turn it off. Be aware that it goes back on after every reset of your phone.

same issue
i have the same issue. I just bought a new S3 four days ago. Wifi of that stopped working exactly after 1 day of the purchase. Same symptoms , it worked at my home for a day and stopped on 2nd day. After stop and restart of the wifi, it again started but then after one page being opened, it again stopped. Tried "forgetting" the wifi uid , it didn't work. Stopped the wifi power saving mode, no gain. The version is stock JB 4.1.1 (came preinstalled) . On the other router, it did work but I am sure(though haven't confirmed) that it woudl stop after a day too.
After this issue, I changed my handset from the seller(original Samsung retail shop) and now, after 2 days, it again stopped today working, on almost the same time again. The same router is used by two ipods, two laptops and one HTC One X and it's working fine. I am not sure what to say to the seller now as he simply won't agree to me but the issue is clearly there. Any help please!
I too am having this problem after updating to 4.1.2. It helps to turn off the wifi then turn it back on, and but I don't want to keep having to do this.

Sounds like an ip related issue.. Your phone remains connected to the local network but can't find it way to the Internet (dns), right? . Try setting a static ip or soft reset the router every time it happens (turn it off and then back on). Try even locating the router somewhere it doesn't get too hot. These work for me

Hi,
But this issue never came up in the ICS and with the other devices , it's working fine. Also, can you guide how to set the static IP for the GS3?
Thanks and regards
---------- Post added at 04:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:31 AM ----------
Okay, did a little Google search and found how to put static IP. Gave it now but still, no joy. Ironically, yesterday , after doing a lot of search I found that I should enable "dynamic routing" on the router. I did that and internet started. Worked for the night and today morning , it stopped and now not working at all.
Any help please!
Even I have this problem on my S3 LTE version on Jelly Bean 4.1.1. Trying hard reset and changing settings on router or fixed ip on phone won't be of any help. I tried all these and the problem comes back within no time. So don't waste time. Send the unit for repair or replacement. Think of it this way, if there is a problem with your router or other routers, your other devices would also have a similar problem so suggest not to tinker with router settings. Problem is with the phone. Whether there is a problem with hardware and/or software, it's Samsung's headache to deal with. Planning to send the phone for repair shortly. Fed up with Samsung. Previously had a problem with bluetooth and screen on S2 and now Wifi. Irritating.

Xperia U: very weird wifi problem

My girlfriends XU is acting up ultimately weird..
Since some time we have this problem:
Wi-Fi only works for about 3 minutes when connecting to a wifi signal, yet the wifi signal icon indicates as if it has a good connection. The only way to regain connection again is to reboot, but then the same problem repeats itself, after a few minutes wi-fi is not working anymore. Also in the wifi-indicator the "send" arrow works, the "receive" arrow doesn't.
Basically if you want to discover a new wi-fi connection you need to reboot the phone also, because otherwise the previous connected wi-fi signal remains (it freezes as stated before after about 3 minutes).
Tried a factory reset already.. Didn't work. The phone runs the stock sony android 4.0.4.
Any idea's ?

Does it happen with all routers or only with your router?
Have you tried to repair using SUS?

[Q] Can't turn Wifi off

Hi,
I have a problem with my Xperia P.
If i'm connected to a wifi network and then go away (lose range), it becomes impossible to turn wifi off. If i click the toggle, it shows it has turned off, but is still on and when i revisit the menu, the toggle appears to be on again.
Any advice on how to put this to a rest? I really don't have the nerves to do a factory reset and resintall/reconfigure everything...
edit: i have the stock ICS firmware and no root access.
Thanks,
M

Hi,
only a factory reset helped. I remebered that i have been trying out some tasker apps, so that must have messed things up. Even uninstalling these apps did not help, beware
I am having the same issue, but whats more I can't scan for new networks when entering a new area. It just shows the ones from the previous area with the strengths they had there.
Rebooting the phone helps to connect once but when I leave that area it's the same **** all over again.
I already brought my phone back to the shop where they sent it to sony for "an update" but nothing changed.
The phone is running the stock android 4.04 ICS
Any help would be greatly apreciated

usually this is from the wifi router setting ... might need to change the channels(1,6,8)....ICS has showed issues on wifi refreshing and reconnecting.. first change the channel from auto to fixed value and then restart your phone and try it again.. see if this helps.. also do let me know if you are on rooted device with custom rom or stock rom...??

[Q] Wifi problem after MM update

I come from Italy and I updated my device on March, as everyone, I think. My device is now perfect except the wifi. The wifi disconnect during the stanby and it connects only using the static mode. I also have this problem even if I changed the wifi option for the stanby in "always". Another strange thing is that the wifi is reported as one of the main cause of consumption, as it is shown in the screeshot
I'm having WiFi issues as well since MM. It's set to Active on Sleep, but whenever I wake my tablet, it's disconnected and having much difficulties to re-connect.
I assumed it was some Xposed thing I'm running, haven't tested it 'clean'. Also, I'm on AndroPlusKernel v22. Not v22a yet.

Same problem here
Version .163
Stock kernel
Wifi standby settings to "always"
5Ghz wifi
Sometimes (not always) wifi disconnected after standby
DHCP working here
Maybe it is linked to wifi router problems during standby. I had wifi problems already before MM (! sign at wifi symbol). Maybe the difference now is that it isn't reconnecting in standby anymore after wifi failure. But just a guess...
At least it's not how option "always" should work...

I have the same issue but I actually have the turn off wifi in sleep enabled but it still shows up that its being used in sleep when I look at battery
The problem:?*
I connect it to the Wi-Fi and it works fine for about 5 minutes. As I'm watching YouTube videos every 5 minutes the video pauses and starts to buffer until it eventually say connection lost. Meanwhile the tablet still claims that Wi-Fi is still connected and with full connection. This also happens with web pages and apps that require and internet connection.
Temporary fix:
Turning Wi-Fi off and back on again fixes it, but only for a few minutes.
What have I tried to fix it?
I've tried everything from a factory reset to a software repair.
OS: Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)?*
Build Number: 32.1.A.1.185
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced.
