[Q] Can I update android in this device? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I got this phone for free, can I update it to Android 4.2? If somebody can point me to a tutorial (topic), I found several but since I'm new to the mobile world I'm kinda afraid of ruining the device. I think it's unlocked since I can put any chip on it without a problem.
Model
GT-N9300
Android version
4.0.3
Baseband version
DM_BASE_12A_W12.43|sc6820_modem|11-02-2012 17:53:08
Kernel version
2.6.35.7
Software version
6820_2.3.5_C909_hteng_s2_en_V02
Hardware version
1.1.0
Thank you!
PS: It shows no updated available, even after lifehacker .com/5946585/force-an-android-device-to-check-for-a-system-update

If the force update shows that this phone doesn't have a update available. Their might be some unofficial roms which are released by people other than your carrier but this might need you to root and install a recovery on your phone but it is highly unlikely due to the fact that this phone is a clone and doesn't have as big of a user base as the originals.

[Q] Rooting and android version

I just finished running the Odin flash of Chainfire CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG6-v4.1-CWM4.zip, thinking that I will upgrade my firmware to 2.3.4. However after I do the setting checking:
setting > About Phone > Android Version > ???
it still showing 2.3.3??? Is that actually work like that, that when rooting, the firmware is upgraded but it will not show in the setting info?
My CWM clearly already changed to CF-Root 4.1 after I open and check it in CWM Manager.
TIA
custom roms make the upgrades on the android version (if included in their package), not the kernels.
Thanks for the info, really helpful

This my phone info:
PDA:KE7 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
is it ok if flash and upgrade to:
XXKG6
Android 2.3.4
PDA:XXKG6| PHONE: XXKG6| CSC:XEUKD1
TIA
Yes, it will upgrade your phone to 2.3.4.
I plan to root my SGS2 but have not yet done so. I got the unlocked international edition from Amazon, and it arrived running Android 2.3.3.
Last night I created a Samsung account for myself so that I could upgrade. Then I did upgrade to 2.3.4.
Question: The Wikipedia entry on Android states that the current version of Android for phones is 2.3.6, released on September 2nd.
But when I tried to upgrade again (after having upgraded to 2.3.4) I got a message saying that no further upgrades are available.
I don't have to be on the bleeding edge but would like to at least upgrade to Android 2.3.5 (if there is a 2.3.5).
Why can't I do that (or can I do it)?
(This may in any case be irrelevant when I root -- my understanding of rooting is that to do so replaces the stock firmware, which is the whole point of rooting.)
Perhaps 2.3.5 simply isn't available yet for the SGS2, but that seems odd.

the upgrade version not available to all location all at once. Some still got 2.3.3 firmware upgrade with just patch. Check out sam firmware to know later update of your firmware based on your phone PDA etc.

can someone maybe explain to me, what the whole reason of upgrading to 2.3.4+ is?
because I just did so. I upgraded from my 2.3.3 firmware to the latest XWKI4, from the list of the official firmwares. I hoped that by doing so, I would get the latest and greatest GTalk with video and calling options (v1.3).
But for some reason I have exactly this version, but I can not use this feature. Although the version information under applications reads, that I have 1.3 installed...

[Q] Android version and firmware version relationship

I'm been reading a lot of the noob guides, but I'm still confused about Android version and how it's related to the firmware version and if both are dependent on the steps used to unlock the device.
I have an ATT Atrix 2 with Android 2.3.5, but I have no idea what the firmware version is. Is this the System Version? None of the version numbers on the About Phone page look anything similar to the threads in the forums.
Thanks!
Didn't quite get it. Can you provide a "firmware version" in the forums?
yes firmware version =system version
Android version =2.3.5

[Q] Set preferred network type unknown

Dear all
I have just received an Android phone from china. The commercial model F1658
The phone model is KYX-909 and the build number is C909-KYX-F1658_EN_V03
The phone on the web is showing as an android 2.3 and also 4.0. I have received the 4.0 version however the GSM part does not work. No carrier can be recognized and the problem is not on the SIM card.
I have rooted the phone, installed windows drivers and also the ROM manager. Based on the information I have read, the problem might be on the baseband and might be related to the OS upgrade from the vendor.
Is there anything I can do to fix the baseband?
Do anyone have a proper OS image I can dump into the phone? WIll it fix the problem?
Thanks and Regards
Alejandro

The reason it says your on the latest firmware is because you are rooted. At&t firmware is hard to come by as they lock the bootloader and device down. If you are not bothered about root flash stock firmware and you can uodate OTA.
I have the same problem except that my phone is not rooted, im on stock AT&T Android 5, but it still says i have the latest firmware.
Someone told me that it has to be connected to AT&T cell towers to find the update but even that didn't work for me.

I will give it a shot but first i need to find the stock firmware because its hard to find for my device specifications, and i will let you know if it worked for me
Edit: flashing the stock firmware locks phone to only at&t network since i use different network i will not try to update it

Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro

Hello,
I got from my GF a Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro (Model Number SM-G887N, if you search for this one you will probably find A8s 2019 phone on SamMobile) with with a provider (KT) branding from Korea. This phone has currently Android 10 installed with the Build G887NKSU2CTI2. I would like to update the phone, but this didn't work on the phone directly.
So I thought about to remove the KT provider branding and install a clean Korean or European Software Build. I'm not new to flash phone (did this a few years ago, but since then a lot changed). I just wanted to ask if somebody can help me regarding the right Software and the possibility to remove the branding.
Can I remove the branding and install a clean SW from Europe/Korea? If yes, what for tools (Is ODIN enough?) and which SW would do I need? I guess there are tons of instructions but I do have a problem to figure out about the compatibility of SW and branding.
Thank you a lot
Android 10 seems like the latest version for your phone. Two OS-Updates done with that.

Hello Zentriks, thank you for the quick reply. I still get updates regarding security, same issue. Not possible to install. Apps also start to close itself after starting. This phone is a total mess. So I really would love to change the SW without any branding.
