I don't know if this has been posted yet. I had searched and didn't find anything.
I am trying to stream movies from my PC with windows 7 to the 3D. Every time I search for media devices, it says no devices found. I think I have everything set up on the computer right but it still won't connect.
Thanks in advance!

I thought you can only stream from your phone to PC and not the other way round.
when i'm at home, i just use cifs manager to mount my windows shared folders.
this allows me to play (stream) the videos via wifi as if they were on my sd card
Try to use SimpleSync or Skifta. they seem to work
Make sure that media sharing is on on your computer

Have a look at the guide I wrote a while back. Might just help you out.

PC-> Evo streaming
This isn't exclusive to the evo but Plex is an application that can do it. Just install the computer and android version. After it catalogs your desired folders or entire hard drive it will stream it.
Awesome! Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate all the helpful responses!
Now, are there any apps that will allow me to stream movies from my PC at home to my phone at work? Both are connected to wifi.

You could try Orb. Not sure what quality you'd get, not used it for a few years but if memory serves me right it transcodes on the fly to flash format so you can watch movies on your phone via a flash enabled browser. I used it for a bit on a wii before homebrewing it.

Would this allow 3d movies to be steamed? That is really the only thing I would want to steam and I have a ton of them. Way too many to put on my 32GB sd card. I have already filled twice and had to delete a bunch of stuff.

Yeah, I know what you mean about not enough space on a 32gb SD
Thinking about buying one of those 64gb cards.
Tbh I've not tried tversity with this phone yet, but i believe it transcodes to flash, so might work seeing as we can view 3D YouTube vids *shrug*
How do I connect the Sony Xperia S in Mass Storage Mode?
There must be a way? Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) mode is not ideal for transferring Photos and Videos (ironically) as it doesn't show you thumbnails for the Pictures and Videos on your phone. Neither can you stream the videos straight from the device this way..
You have to first click on the file and wait for it to load, just to find out its not the one you want, and repeat the arduous process all over again for the next Video, till you get to the one you wanted..
Please Help
Download Sony PC companion there is an option in there to open the drive on your phone (storage)
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
MTP is the only mode that there is but there is a file manager in PC Companion software

We can all open the storage on the device..windows does this by itself through autoplay when you connect the phone..
I'm talking specifically about mounting the storage with Full access privileges, as it would be if you plugged in a mass storage device (such as a hard drive).
All the previous Xperia range allowed this, and of what I know, most android devices allow this. This is a very fundamental feature required and expected of all phones these days. Your not exactly going to enjoy downloading a 3GB Video file only to find out that's not the one you were after..

It's also one that is going away with unified storage models. There are technical reasons behind this (as it's all one partition leveraging a fuse file system to mimic external storage) that it can't simply be "unmounted" from the OS side and mounted as external storage.

So the paying Consumers lose another round
vs Manufacturers and their cost cutting techniques..
Soon we will have phones that are nothing to do with what we want, they will be what's left after its attacked by a budget sheet. Zombies of the mobile world, where passion doesn't exist..
(lol got a bit carried away there, but you get the point) since when does something that's been demonstrated to be the more user friendly option (as demonstrated on the Galaxy s2 amongst other android handsets), get thrown out as if consumers are too stupid to notice that we are being put at a disadvantage?
oh well, welcome to the pathetic future, where what's in my pocket is what the account manager needed to get his bonus this year

It's more of a movement that does away with insufficient internal storage and allows the user to leverage available space however they see fit, but there is a tradeoff there.

I actually like the way it is now better. No more hassling around with too little storage for apps (HTC desire was horrible in that perspective). The built in memory is faster than SD cards. And mtp is working fine for most things.

Yey - they do a pc companion... problem is, I'm using a mac...
So no way of copying photos from/to it using iPhoto.
On the plus side, at least the "Salling Media Sync" application I used to use to copy music to my Hero/Desire still works with this phone when plugged in by usb.

You can use Sony Bridge for Mac to sync your music to your iTunes and it will move photos to your phone from iPhoto. It will also do software upgrades as well and use it as a file manager for your files on your phone.
MTP works fine on Windows, and there is the excellent Bridge for Mac for all Mac users:

Anynet+ is just HDMI CEC and will work fine! Has been tried and tested.
If the Xbox supports standard DLNA, music sharing should work.

The irony is, that Xperia S choose to ignore this advantage as it still divides flash into "internal" and "external" storage. In my eyes it is one of the biggest flaws of this phone (together with flaps covering the interface sockets).
But it is definitely a way forward and the problems are solely on the computer software side. Which will get attention only when there are enough users demanding for this.
Is it possible to transfer .MKV files with MTP?
Ok after a few days of trolling through posts and searching I can't find the answer I'm looking for... Do you need Kies to transfer from PC to SGS3 via USB? I understand it used for updates etc but what I'm getting is can I plug the SGS3 into a friends computer and grab some data without it. Thanks
Edit: found the answers I was looking for.
››Connect as a media device
You can connect your device to a computer and access media
files stored on your device.
1 Connect your device to a computer with a USB cable.
2 Tap the indicator icons(top of the screen eg where the time & battery icon is) area and drag it downwards to
open the notifications panel.
3 Select Connected as a media device → Media device
(MTP).
4 Transfer files between your device and the computer.
Not working for me. On a rooted S3.
"USB utilities" doesn't appear on any list.
The S3 supports MTP and PTP. No need for special USB drivers as far as I tell.

It works fine with my PC but not with my MBP...doesn't show up as attached storage.
Hmmm, Thanks for your reply's...Reason I started this thread was because a HTC owner I know said the reason He didn't wait for the SGS3 was because he thought you needed software(I take it he was thinking Kies) installed on a computer to transfer data.
I can't confirm on my SGS3 as I don't pick it up till tomorrow in New Zealand. Those steps I posted were from the Samsung site on how to transfer files for the S2, I just took it for granted it would be the same for the S3.
I just want to make sure I can just access the drive on the phone say if I visit a friend and grab some data off them without having to install software on their computer or log onto their wi-fi for Kies to work
If they have a computer that supports MTP or PTP you will be fine. No software is needed.

Yea confirmed it today when I got my phone, once I get homr from work I'll edit those steps I posted in my first post because thats not how you get the connection to PC to work

1. Attach your Samsung device to your computer (PC or Mac) using the USB cable. If this is the first time you’ve connected your device to your computer, it will install the necessary drivers on your computer.
2. On your Samsung device, touch Applications > Settings > Wireless and network > USB utilities.
3. Remove the USB cable from you Samsung device.
4. On your Samsung device touch “Connect storage to PC.” You will see a warning: “USB utilities / Connect USB cable to use mass storage.” Insert the USB cable into your Samsung device while the message is still on the screen. Do not touch “Cancel.”
5. The screen will change to “USB mass storage” with a picture of a green Android and a message that says “USB connected.” Touch “Connect USB storage” at the bottom.
6. Your Samsung device is now connected to your computer. The device’s internal storage will appear on your computer as an external drive. If you also have a microSD card installed, this will show up as a second external drive.
7. You can now drag and drop files directly from your computer or iTunes to your device. You can create folders on your device as necessary to organize your files. Your device will automatically index these files and make them available in your media player.
8. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MAC USERS: Before you disconnect your device from your Mac, you must eject the disks on your Mac, just as you would eject any disk or flash drive. After the drives have been ejected, touch “Disconnect storage from PC” on your Samsung device.
9. When you’ve moved all of the files you need to, disconnect the USB cable.

when you plug in the micro USB and connect it to your PC you have two options in the notification bar : MPT or PTP.
This means that we can't transfer over unsupported files, right?
Like MKV files... I've been dying to try an HD movie on this screen.. whenever I try to transfer an MKV file, windows explorer crashes

You can simply do that via ADB.
Just enable USB Debugging on your watch connect it via USB to your PC and search how to correctly use "adb push" to transfer files

Here you can find a little guide how to do so over your Smartphone via Bluetooth. It's slow tho, only ~50KB/s so this would take a long time for larger files.
If you want to connect your SmartWatch directly via ADB and USB to your PC you need something like an "LG ADB Driver". I found one but only after an hour of searching or so... I don't have it here at work sadly.
At least that's the only one that worked for me.

I didn't play them "on the watch", I connected my Bluetooth Speaker (which you can see in the background) and then connected my PC to those so I can record the audio.
After messing about a bit with Google Play Music and trying to get it work, I gave up on that and just went the ES File Manager route as well. Working great with the built-in media player!
Too bad I can't find a music player that'll work (GMMP and Apollo don't, just FCs).
I got this to work. I had music that I had uploaded to Google cloud using their program on my computer. That's the only music that seems to be able to be downloaded to the watch using Google play music app on the phone. I'm assuming music purchases from Google play will work too. Idk about that tho cuz I've never bought from them.

In case anyone runs into the problem where music is playing, but you don't hear anything, just repeatedly type in "adb shell input keyevent 24" and hit enter a few times. For some reason, occasionally when I factory reset the watch, its volume goes on mute. This just increases the volume.
