Edit: I am S-ON Relocked bootloader. If there is a way to go S-OFF without unlocking my bootloader on 3.16 I can get around this. Any help is appreciated...
Have you tried using this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026938
And no, you must unlock before you gain S-off.

I followed the exact instructions given on HTCDev... I have done it in the past just fined. Ever since I tried gaining S-OFF and then when that failed relocked my bootloader I have had nothing but problems...
Just a thought, but from what you posted above, the unlock token is showing 0kb being sent. Doesn't look like anything is being pushed to unlock your bootloader. I would think there would be something of numeric value there

Since you can't seem to be able to search I'll just re-post the entire first post just for you. Forbid you actually have to look for it. I even enhanced a critical piece of information for those that can't find it for whatever reason.
Hi,
this is a development & collection Thread. The PH85IMG.ZIP files can be flashed through SD-CARD in HBoot Mode. This works only for S-OFF users. If you don't have S-OFF you cannot use the files.
There is no way to get S-OFF on a normal S-ON phone now.
Pulled Hboots:
Eng Hboot 1.90.2005: http://xda.niksie.nl/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=0&view=viewcategory&catid=213
MD5:2b4c54a53af0d9f6e314723be3a076b4
If you want to help, check if you have S-ON or S-OFF. Turn off the phone, reboot with the volume button held down, and check at the top of the white screen if it says "SHIP S-ON", "SHIP S-OFF" or "ENG S-OFF". S-ON is stock and not helpful, SHIP S-OFF could be useful, the really helpful ones are ENG S-OFF. Please don't post asking if you can help if you have S-ON.
HOW TO DUMP YOUR HBOOT (please remember this is only interesting if you already have S-OFF)
1. Download ADB: http://www.mediafire.com/?5d0v316g9bg97
2. Extract the contents of the zip to C:\
3. Run the commands below:
Code:
cd c:\adb
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/sdcard/hboot.img
Note: If your device is not detected, download and install HTC Sync.
4. Connect your phone in USB Mode, copy the hboot.img file from your SD card and upload it to Multiupload.
How To Flash Eng Hboot:
1. Comming soon

well, if all you're wanting to do it turn it into a brick. I can ship you a brick via UPS. lol Then you could use that brick that I ship you to turn it into a brick. hehehe.
Just watch the videos on youtube and do exactly what they do. the timing has to be right.
Have you tried to run a RUU?

First I would suggest that you get S-Off. You should be able to complete that using revolutionary.
Once that is done let me know. Go to revolutionary.io and follow the instructions there to obtain s-off.

There is an extra guide for this.

Dunno if there is a difference of rooting cdma version u have.
Maybe u`r hboot is corrupted, but don`t panic yet... with upgrade - downgrade, u should fix it. (in theory)
If u`r screen gets black... ye, it`s bricked
U`r still far away from it? )
revolutionary not work either.

The good news for you is that you have HBoot 1.40 so you only need to root or to restore via RUU

If all you're asking is if you can Stock root then- yes you don't HAVE to flash a custom ROM. Unlock via HTCDEV.com, flash a custom recovery (TWRP, 4EXT, CWM) and download SU (superuser.apk) flash that and viola! no need to flash a custom ROM. I would do a back up incase you ever do want to venture out into the ROOTING world that way you could always go back to stock rooted. There are tons of threads on here in the Dev section that can give you much more detail than I can from here

Does unlocking the bootloader allow for rooting without having to lose everything on my phone?
Unlocking bootloader returns your phone to a factory state so backup as much as you can before doing that.

Thank you for your prompt response. Does using the revolution method require flashing?
Revolutionary method do not work with ICS hboots. If you have flashed ICS there is no other method than HTC Dev unlock at the moment. If you want root only follow dgomez720 instruction.

Read through this thread. Apparently some Evo 3D mainboards are incompatible with the HTC unlock procedure.
One post I found indicated that it might have to do with the CID of the phone. You can issue the "fastboot getvar cid" command to see what yours is currently.
I would suggest you contact HTC via the developers website instead of posting the same question over and over again on multiple forums, since that will at least get you an infraction if not banned from XDA.

not sure if this will help us not having a RUU but here it is
Last line of the article:
As far as we know, no one's tried to flash the Developer Edition RUU onto a retail HTC One. We wouldn't recommend it.

This is a probably a good recommendation as far as I understand it anyway. Without super cid (which most current methods require s-off) this probably won't be of any use to att branded devices unfortunately
I can't believe the att base ruu hasn't popped up somewhere yet... It's almost crazy to me..
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Don't see what would really matter... The developer edition isnt different from the international or att. Just has more radio bands enabled and came with an unlocked boatloader/SIM and a different CID to identify it as the developer phone...
Flashing an RUU wont work, but flashing thru recovery the system and boot wouldn't brick the phone.

Well they effectively did nothing then haha. The 32GB unlocked already runs the exact same software as the dev edition (1.29.1540.3). Only difference is the unlocked bootloader, but that can be done from htcdev.com on the 32GB unlocked.

The S-OFF is the part that interests me.
If he's s-off and super cid then he'd be able to flash any ruu he wanted. There are usually a handful that accidentally come that way, and they usually pop up and are key to the rest of us getting it.. so hopefully he's sharing his system info with the correct people

Hmm, wonder if it shipped like that or if flashing this to his 32GB unlocked gave him S-OFF. US 32GB unlocked comes with S-ON.
Here's the situation, I tried to flash a cm9 rom (i like ics ) and i downloaded and copied it over, flashed it and my evo wouldn't even charge or turn on. I didn't realize that the "rom" was 8mb? I didn't even check and now I have a hard brick. It wont even go into bootloader (back screen), BUT somehow when I plug it in to my computer fastboot drivers installed?? Can I still save my poor evo? I feel like an idiot to the max lol. PLEASE HELP!

Unfortunately no, nothing happens. In fastboot i can still flash a recovery and do basic commands. I believe that the boot partition is corrupted. Here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683384
Btw, I enter fastboot by holding volume up + power. I was wondering if I can use this toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940512

I was S-OFF DirtyRacun. I can't get into recovery because the phone won't do anything except when I hold power + volume up which gets me to fastboot WITH SCREEN OFF. My device comes up as t<3 fastboot. I have ubuntu installed and i know the basics of the terminal. I have no idea what my hboot is again screen off. I think it was 1.19 not sure. I'll try to use the linux toolkit in my previous post unless you recommend another way.
You can try running VipeRUU from the bootloader, but if your screen isn't displaying, I'd be hesitant. Take a look at the link below.
