Hey I have a rooted Galaxy Ace GT-S5830D, and wanted to use Link2SD to move apps to my SD.
I have two problems, one is that when i moved my downloaded apps from the phone to the SD, the internal memory seems to get even lower. The second is that I need an opinion if I put the apps in the SD card are right.
I also uninstalled some bloatware, because i didnt like it. So I found replacements that made the phone seem like more of an ICS style phone. For example, i got rid of the camera, calculator, the music app, and gallery. I replaced them with Camera ISC+, ISC Calculator, Google Play Music, Gallery ISC. After this my internal memory seems to be taken up by more memory. So i put all these apps into the SD. Then I put the Maps into SD, and also the Play store.
I dont know whats wrong here.
I also need and opinion if i put the right apps into my sd. All the apps in my SD now:
Facebook
TextPlus
Skype
PicsArt
Google Play Series
Maps
Google Play Music
Snapchat
Clean Master
Ymail
Kik
Antek QuickSettings
Player Pro
Gallery ISC
Messaging Lite G
ISC Calculator
AndroZip
Camera ISC+
Opera Mini
Link2SD
Groove IP
ALso forgot to mention, that I have Clcok JB+ instead of the normal Clock in gingerbread, it is not on the SD because I like the Clock widget it comes with. There is also Eye in the Sky on the phone, along with ADWLauncher EX. ISC Keyboard, Minimalistic Text, Widget Pack (Player Pro), Play Store, Street View,
Also, Can someone tell me how to optimize my phone to get the best out of it. I have all these replacements of the bloatware because I really like ISC. I am trying to get a custom ROM but for now this is the best i can do. Please help me, Thanks.

Hi Guys,
unfortunately a friend of mine has lost his gmail account (someone broke his password), and therewith all his apps bound to that account.. of course thats at the moment not extremely bad, because the apps are still on his phone, but if he might update the rom or buy a new phone, the paid apps will be gone.
therefore i am wondering, where these apps are stored. i found out, that most apps are stored in /data/app, but for example new applications, which i bought lets say an hour ago, are not stored there (think that this has something todo with 24h refund).. has someone experience with this? will those apps work, which i bought and then copied the apk file from data/app to a backup?
Yes, they will definatly work. you can use "appManager Pro" to back up the apps realy simply, or you can use "mybackup pro" to back up all your apps. Google seems to have no DRM in place whatsoever for the app store, so you can back up your apps manualy or with the above apps and they will still work, on any phone!
yes okay, the first app (appmanager) works, but only with some apps, not with all
for example i have the app "colorUp Lite", there stands "geschützt"/"protected".. any idea how the programmer managed to protect their app? and how to store that?
edit: i found out that every app, which can be backuped is stored in /data/app.. for example the app from above "colorUp Lite" has no apk-file in that folder.. theres just a zip-file with some pictures and templates in it.. where do these apps store their binary on the phone??
Good day Everyone,
I bought my own sony ericsson XPERIA X8 smart phone just a couple of weeks ago. I find it really easy to use and very user friendly. However, there are just some problems I am experiencing at the moment.
First - Camera and Pictures (and Picture Rotation)
I found out that when you take PORTRAIT pictures, it is saved as LANDSCAPE and vice versa... is there any way to change it? like if you take Portrait Pictures, you no longer have to flip your phone in a landscape view and vice versa?
Another thing is that is there a way to rotate pictures with this phone? I still have to download adobe photoshop in android market in order to do that...
Second - Wallpaper
This is another issue I want to open up. I tried using my pictures in my album as wallpaper. Usually XPERIA X8 would ask you to crop the picture or choose which area of the picture you want to make as wallpaper. The problem is you cannot choose the whole picture itself. I also tried using pictures that are taken from the camera and still the same...
Third - Storage
I just would like to ask where does XPERIA X8 store APPS downloaded from Android Market? is it in its phone storage or in its SD Card? I downloaded quite a few APPS and I've been notified for having low storage capacity... I have a 2GB SD Card... And how can I change it so that it will save the APPS in SD Card?
Fourth - DOWNLOADS
I also would like to ask where can I download useful APPS, Games, etc for this phone? of course aside from going to Android Market...
Fifth - REMOVING APPS
I bought this phone in Taiwan and I notice that there are default APPS that are in Taiwan's language which is not useful to me... I wan't to delete them but I can't because unlike APPS that I downloaded, it will only have a button CLEAR CACHE... not like the downloaded APPS that has UNINSTALL button. Is there a way to delete these APPS in my phone?
Your help will be deeply appreciated... tnx much!!!
Welcome there
First: there are quiet many other camera app beside built in app..like Vignette,360 camera (if not mistaken)..
Second: 3.2 mp camera have 2000x2000 picture size (if not mistaken also)..its more big then our X8 [email protected] y even u snape from phone, your pic will have a size of 2000x2000 and that y u still have to crop
Third: there is app that can move ur app from internal to SD card..BUT..it required u to root ur device..app like app2sd and link2sd.
Fourth: I'm very sure you know how to used Google.com just type "app for android" there you go
Fifth: There also app that can remove built in app..BUT..this app also required a rooted device..which is TitaniumBackup.
I hope already answer all ur question
I've noticed - and was surprised to see - that there's a fair amount of bloatware on my CM7 distribution, including:
Clock
Downloads
File Manager
Music
News and Weather
Videos
Voice Dialer
Can I remove those by mounting via USB and removing APKs? Can it be removed using Root Explorer?
Which method? And, if so, where do I delete the files?
All of the extra icons are driving me nuts and I can't seen any reason for hanging onto apps that I don't use...
Thanks!
I'm not an expert but I think these are just vanilla gingerbread apps, and therefore were included with CM7. They're not bloat in the sense that they're not apps loaded on by your carrier (e.g. VZ Navigation) or by the manufacturer (e.g. Kies Air).
You can probably get rid of them really easily by mounting R/W in Root Explorer and deleting/renaming the apks in system/app. I like the idea of renaming a .apk to something like .bak (backup) so you keep the file, but it disappears from the system.
You can remove our freeze them with titanium backup as well.
... .-- -.- .--. . .----. -..
Yeah, Root Explorer will work, just give it the usual root permissions and you're good. Delete them from the system apps folder. Why would you want to remove the clock though? You must have an outstanding circadian rhythm.
I don't consider them as bloatwares; they're all needed for daily uses except voice dialer
I just create a bloat folder on my sdcard and move those over. Some of them, live wallpapers, etc, all go there.
Thanks everyone for the great feedback - I do have an excellent circadian rhythm. I kid, the clock stays, but to minho422, dude, you need to drop those basic apps in favor of more exciting, robust ones!
Downloads (I don't know why I'd ever need that)
File Manager - RootExplorer/Astro
Music - Winamp, Rockplayer, Mobo
News and Weather - that's just a joke

Wouldn't "bloatware" be apps that constantly run in the background and slow your phone down (i.e. Make it feel more "bloated") ?

Has anyone tried installing the JB version of Google Music on their Inc 4G? There are a few threads from other forums with instructions. Seems like success rate is about 50%. I've tried and haven't been able to do it. Some say a quick install of the apk works, others say you have to wipe data from the old app and uninstall it then move the new apk to /system/apps and change permissions to rw-r-r. I've tried pretty much every method. I'm rooted and I have TiBackup installed, so recovering the old app hasn't been a problem, but it would be nice to get the new version working.
In case anyone is interested... I got it to work. Apparently all that's required is to place the apk in /system/app and change the permission to rw-r-r and reboot. I never rebooted. I was monkeying around last night with some things and during that playtime I rebooted my phone. When I got in the car this morning and launched Google Music, I was surprised to see that the JB version was present and fully functional! I know a reboot is generally required for system changes to take effect, but it just plain never dawned on me yesterday.
tldr:
Jelly Bean version of Google Music works on the Incredible 4G.

Does the jelly bean version give you an option of where to store your music? I am looking into/having to mount the default folder it chooses to a location on my larger SD card just so I don't load up the phone.

I'm unsure. I don't see anything in the settings menu that let's you choose where to store music. I just downloaded an album that I keep online and it went to "Phone storage", not my external SD card. But, if I put music directly on the SD card (via USB), it should show up in the app. Is that what you're looking for?
It seems like it is the same as the current version. I like to use the rating features to sort new music and decide what to keep. This is dependent on there being a link to the google music servers so that my ratings show up on the website. Also it lets my sync music without having to upload it to the phone specifically.
re-routing the folder that it stores the music on will let me hold more than the internal memory's capacity of music on my SD card, yet allow the link to exist that sends play data/ratings/etc back and forth between the web interface and the app itself.
Short answer seems to be that they still have not added this feature.

Yeah, it seems that way. Looks like the only changes, besides Nexus Q support, are graphical. Instead of the generic album cover art for a playlist containing songs from multiple albums, the album art is now a mosaic of the album covers included in the playlist. The widget now shows album art. Oh, and you'll like this, the widget now allows you to "thumbs up" the current track, so that should work out nicely for your sorting method.
Found something else, you can now choose "Add to queue" from pop-up menu on albums, tracks, and play lists.

Looks like the Play Store has an official update available right now to get the JB Google music app.

Where did it download the offline music to? I can't find it anywhere. It used to be on the sdcard com.android..
Thanks
I am suddenly missing apps that are actually already installed in the Play Store. For instance, I have Rdio that I installed from the Play Store several weeks ago. Now, when I go to the Play Store, it doesn't show up under installed apps. In fact, it shows that I only have 20 apps installed, though when I go back to my app drawer, it shows over 150! To add, if I do a search on the app that is installed, it doesn't even show up on the search within the Play Store. It's as if the app isn't available anymore.
This is a problem because I can't get any updates on apps. It has been like this for a few days.
Help is much appreciated.
did you recently change dpi or anything? Maybe try to clear the google services and see if it resets your play store? If you did change dpi the google play store only recognizes certain DPI's its 160 for full tablet mode, 213 Phablet mode and 320 for phone mode. If im mistaken im sure someone will supplement me but ive had it where I couldnt find certain apps and either the dpi change or clearing the google services worked.
Thanks for your suggestions.
I have changed my DPI, but that was a while back--and I was able to see the apps that are now missing in the "INSTALLED" section of the Play Store. So I changed my DPI back to stock, and they are still missing.
I also did try to clear the Google Service Framework, cleared the cache in CWM, and even reflashed the ROM--still no joy.
Here's a small part of the applications missing from the Play Store (just from the first page of my app drawer):
Adobe Reader
After Focus Pro
Amazon
Amazon MP3
Amex
Amazon Appstore
Asphalt 6
Asphalt 7
Barcode Scanner
Bejeweled 2
Capital One
Chrome
Dead Trigger
Any other ideas? I'm wondering if it's thinking I'm geographically in a different place that these apps aren't available--though I'm in the US. I'm at the point where I'm pondering another ROM (I'm currently using the xXx).
test another rom, or restore a backup and test it...
although, it would be nice if the backup was a different OS version...like GB...
then you know its rom related...
good luck Sir...g
Use a file explorer/manager and go to data apps and see if the apps are still installed or listed. I am still confused myself on apps that are moved to the internal sd card as they cannot be moved to the external sd card. But if you installed the apps with an external sd card in and you have since removed the card then the apps fail to show as installed.
So basically what I am trying to say is if you switched or formatted your external sd card then the apps will disappear even though they are not physically on the external sd card.
Does any app you previously installed from the store show up in the installed apps list?
Either go to my apps in play store and uninstall and reinstall or go through root explorer or some file manager and unistall then reinstall.

The latest release of the xXx ROM (yesterday's) seems to have fixed the issue.
UPDATE: I guess not. Same issue as before.
