Only tested on stock rooted
tho the topic would indicate a general thread topic and not a development topic i honestly believes it goes here as i am taking it upon myself to figure this out or attempt to. if CM7 allows you to change default storage location to either internal or external storage then i believe it should be easy to figure out how to do it with any rom that is rooted. tho i may be completely wrong on that.
what i believe to be needing is the void.fstab file from the etc folder and the build prop from a cm7 user. basically if somebody could give me a copy of those files when they have the settings in cm7 set to internal and then when they have it set to external i may be able to figure out what needs changed. i remember reading in the cm9 thread that somebody changed line of code in those files to switch them around but i need to compare them. so if somebody could get me those files i would greatly appreciate it and will try to figure this out
Number 1 reason why i want this ability is my android folder for app/game data alone is 8.5gb. my gameloft one is like 5gb. would be a huge PITA to have to move data around all the time.
thanks
If u can figure this out that would be great..I tried changing it around myself but cm9 isn't reading my internal storage no matter what I change around lol there has to be a solution

Well just tried that mod and it did flip it but now my actual sd card can't be read. Flip it back and still can't read my sd card. Gonna do a nandroid to see if it will restore it then tonight I'll compare some things and see what's going on

Ok I got then flopped and my phone reads the external as my default sd card but now internal won't show up at all. I'm on mobile so I can't upload the void file and the back up void file. I'll try to go to actual website on phone and upload it there

http://db.tt/CH5IlMwI this is the backup of original void file on rooted stock
http://db.tt/uadyDfcK this is the void file with my edits
Look where it shows the lines about external sd card and internal sd card
Had to post links to dropbox since im on my phone and cant upload files.
This is only done on stock and this change will only read and mount your external sd card as your default card and internal wont be read at all. You will also get and error on boot about not being able to read something.
Any ideas or direction on how to get internal storage to be read would be great.
# external sd card
dev_mount sdcard_ext /mnt/sdcard-ext:none:lun1 auto /devices/platform/tegra-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc3 /devices/platform/tegra-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc1
# internal eMMC
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard 18 /devices/platform/tegra-sdhci.3/mmc_host/mmc0
I think it should look like this in void.fstab hope it helps.

Yeah that looks like what it originally should be. I'm trying to get then to swap. A guy named shiffy on here has sent me a pm saying he was able to swap memory around. Was able to get phone to read the actual sd card as sd card but can't get internal memory to read at all as the sd card ext. Thinking it may have to do with being on the latest sbf.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
ok still can't access my internal storage and i noticed when trying to install Frontline Comando from the market i get an error that says cant access usb storage or sd card so for now do not do this till i can figure it out. also shiffy if you read this can you try to install frontline commando and see if it goes? pm me if you do. also you on sbf 6 or sbf 7?
IDK bud was mostly just shedding light on the mod never tried it my friend jrtduke has x2 told me about it figured was worth a look sorry it messed you up hope you can get things working again
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
ok i gave up. sorry guys but i messed up my phone and i dont now diddly. so i'm going to go back to cm7. once shiffy is able to post he may share how he got his to work.

My phone says that I have 19.09gb available. It has 9.97gb being used up by other. Can someone tell me what this "Other" is referring too? I just recently flashed the deodex stock 4.2.2 rom and the only other thing on my phone is some photos and videos that take up 2.41gb.
is the files you put on your phone that are not in folders like rom.zips mods
No he didn't pull his files off his sd card before he flashed

Is there a way to fix this, I wiped all the data after I flashed the rom, but strangely enough all of my media (photos and videos) where still on the phone.

As i said, pull all your files off the sd card and wipe it, put the rom on your sd card using adb while in recovery, wipe data, flash, and then put everything back on.

I am using TWRP, what is the reasoning that it didnt wipe everything when I wipe it after the install? Also what all do I need to wipe, there isnt an sdcard option using TWRP, only thing is see is " dalvik cache, cache, data, system, usb-otg". Also is there anyplace on the phone memory that is safe from being wiped?
It has to do with the partitions of the sd card being changed in 4.2.2 allowing for multi user support. Do as I suggested, pull all files off and then in that menu if you click data I believe that will wipe your sd since everything is stored in that folder. A regular factory reset just skips over the virtual sd card.

I only want to keep the contents that are in my DCIM folder, so that is the only folder that I need to pull correct?
Also could I not just go to a certain directory and delete out the stuff without having to reflash everything?

Im starting to think that the duplicates are what they call symlinks, because they dont actually take up anymore space, and that they are in about 3 different locations

Correct. All files are actually stored in /data/media and now with 4.2, /data/media/0

If this is true, couldn't one just remove the symlinks and fix the issue? I have the same issue but I'm not sure i feel like all the trouble just to get back a few gigs.

They are symlinks, don't remove them it will break things. Besides they are recreated on boot.
Wiping your phone and SD partition and starting from scratch doesn't solve the issue of almost 10gigs taken up and not knowing what it is. The stock rom itself surly isn't 10 gigs, we all know that for a fact. I just did a complete wipe of everything on my phone, and I'm still short 10 gigs. I paid for a 32 gig phone under the impression that I was getting 32 gigs of SD space for my personal use. Not 10 of it being used in some "other" category. HTC really dropped the ball on this. Just when you buy a phone with removable SD, advertised as 32 gigs, you GET that 32....well minus a gig or 2 for drivers for the card, but system files are stored on their own partition on the phone itself while you have full use of the SD card. When i go through file explorer, I see 2-3 different paths to get to the same point on my SD car which makes no dang sense to me. And I've been tempted to delete them but I'm afraid to do so. I've tried moving them and they end up coming back..obviously, after a reboot. There should be one path from the root of the system files to get to SD, not 3. On my phone, I've got SD, MMT, and storage, and all of them lead to the same end point, some with a few more stops along the way than others. HTC really dropped the ball when it comes to the user ability over storage management, and what they advertised vs what they provide in terms of storage capacity in this device. Would I return it? hell no. i love this phone despite this flaw. Would i go for it again knowing what I know now... honestly I'm unsure. I'd probably save up a little more and go for the 64 gig..be a little miffed over losing 10 gigs, but at least I'd know I still have plenty of space left as opposed to now. I take lots of pics of my family and i love music, so this is my MP3 Player as well. Not to mention any backups I do of the system and what not
Side note, I in fact asked this question when i first bought the phone when it made it's US debut, and got all sorts of off the wall answers.

If you have a backup made, your fine. If not, its lost.
Don't delete system folders unless you know what you're doing.

On a scale to one to ten? About a 8.
If you have rooted your phone, you can get an undelete app (like Fahrbot's Undelete for Root Users on the Market) and recover the folder... hopefully. There's a chance it won't catch the files or whatever. If you're not rooted, I don't think it would be possible to get them back, but I may be wrong (check Google, they may know).
In case you were wondering why this happened, I'll tell you. Android is based on Linux. Linux has these links to files/folders called symlinks. Now, for whatever reason it is, Android has multiply links to the sdcard (probably to help with compatibility). So while they may look like two different folders, they lead to the same place. Think of it as two doors to the same house.
Good luck!
If you are on a 4.2 ROM (One found in Original Development):
The SDcard0 and SDcard are all links to /Data/Media/0. Use a root browser to navigate here and see of your SD cards contents are here. I'm not sure if deleting a symlink will also delete its source, so you may still have the SDcard just not a way to access it without root permissions. If you can see your SD card in /data/media/0, PM me and I'll try to help you restore it. If you don't see anything here, or don't see your SD cards contents (before wipe), I'm sorry to say this but your pretty screwed.

Thanks for your help in advance. I have it set to go to sd card but when I got to where the apps are to move or what have you there is nothing to move to sd.

Apps to sd card?
Anyone have any ideas how to get apps to sd card tried deleting some apps due to insufficient space (can't even update a app) deleted 3 apps and still can't download Folder Mount as suggested. Any help would be much appropriated as I am stuck can't update apps or install like this. Did I miss a work around in the OP?
How bad is your storage situation? In terms of MB available?
Also, do you already have Titanium Backup installed? If so, just back up a bunch of apps to your SD card, delete the installs, and then restore from the backups after you've got Folder Mount running and your storage cleared up.

As a reminder, the "/mnt/sdcard" device is INTERNAL memory on this phone. You want to move your apps to /mnt/extSdCard, which is the microsd slot.
I've never tried it, but pretty sure I saw an option in Titanium Backup to move app to sd.

If I did that wouldn't I still have the same problem when I revert back to stock Rom? Or you thinking flash that save that app(if its a app at all, not sure if the rom your talking about has it baked into it or not) on titanium and restore it on other rom?

No, you can't just move them there. Applications won't be recognized if you just pick them up and move them.

Ok never mind. That isn't going to work. I can't download folder mount that is kind of my problem. out of space when I have plenty. as shown in the screen shots. So basically I am going to have to wipe everything and use my titanium backup to restore apps? I have a feeling even if I erase all of the apps it will still say that as I have so much storage free(internal). Sigh

I haven't pulled the battery oddly enough..(you would think that I would have done that first)... I will try that when I get home as it is in a otterbox case and I am at work and it's a pain to get out. As far as ME7 Builds go last I heard once you flash to a ME7 build you would be stock on ME7. Which I am not trying to do. I am happy with touchwhiz at the moment. Not really into the plain dark look as it is just that to plain for me. Which Rom where you suggesting that you can revert back to a MDK build with? I have a nandroid already. But I tried deleting apps to see if if would let me download it and all it does is delete that app and I can't put the app i just took off back on. With all the storage available. Just kind of baffled that no one has really ran into this. I have TWRP on it now. I might switch it to 4EXT Recovery as it just has way more options.
1. Deleted apps no difference
2. Deleted Cache no difference (TWRP style wipe)
3. When I get off going to try and wipe Delv/Cach (see if that does anything)
4. If all else fails I will do a complete wipe and start with that app.(Even though you can just change the file destination in root explorer to go to sd card. There is also 2 places it stores on your phone you have a internal sd and a emulated storage. I believe this is wear the hang up is being caused.
Just seems strange that you are getting any type of error with the amount of internal storage you have available. When you get an app from tue store itsaves to your phones internal storage, which is not even close to being full. Also if you are rooted you can go back and forth between MDK and ME7 builds. Devs dont really mess with bootloaders when making roms...
I've tried getting an answer on this before. How do I fix the internal and SD card storage problems? For some reason everything goes right to external and it never uses my sdcard. Ex; Titanium Backup goes right to internal, everything I download goes to internal, pictures too(pics go to int & sd) etc. I have a 64gb card and I'd like yo use it. Can some please explain what each folder means? There are so many paths to external and sd. Also, I went into "manage apps" and to the "on sdcard" tab. I checked each one. Does that mean every app that is checked marked is now using the sdcard for space? I'm just really confused with all this lol. I attached some screenshots of my external/scard. Any help is appreciated.

JB AOSP roms behave the same way Sense does, sd card is considered internal.
Check to see if you can change your storage location in the apps in question. People have gotten away with swapping the mount points to make external the sd card also.

Camcorder works and has been fixed for awhile...as for making your external read as internal is darn near impossible....the 4.1 and 4.2 SD card layout was caused by a bug....I bricked my last rezound trying to make a mod for you guys...so be warned about trying...there is an app somewhere that merges the 2 SD cards together but causes errors for future flashing

The process changed in CM10.2, they did away with the vold.fstab file. It looks like the mounts are defined in fstab.vigor and/or fstab.goldfish now. I haven't tried modifying them personally.
It would be easier re pointing any apps you can, any changes you make to the above files would be lost every time you flash a new nightly.
