Hey guys,
I recently flashed back to a stock ROM to do some research. That was the moment when I found out that flash videos in stock browser ran just horrible. Scrolling is still smooth though, but the videos themselves just seem to run at a very low framerate, alot of frameskips, too. This really bothers me and I don't know how to tackle that issue. When I got my beloved SGS2, flash videos ran buttery smooth in stock browser, even at 1080p.
Anybody else with that problem? Any known solution?
Hey peeps,
Currently I'm in the possession of an HTC Sensation XE, but thinking about making the switch to the SGSII. However, some questions are still there and I was hoping that the helpful community here could help me answer some of these.
How is the Earphone quality? Anyone tried it with some decent pair of headphones yet and is able to tell me their experience?
Could someone with a "stock" SGSII (International model preferably) tell me about the gaming performance on the SGSII? I'm talking about games such as Dungeon Defenders, Wind-Up Knight and PSX/N64 Emulation. If entirely possible with a recorded video.
Same request above for a person who flashed a ROM
How does the SGSII perform with Tegra 2 games through Chain-something?
How is the battery life for both the "stock" SGSII and the Lite-ning ROM?
Could a person with a "stock" SGSII show me their benchmark scores after a reboot of the phone?
Same for a person running the Lite-ning ROM
The standard hardware acceleration which is present on the SGSII. Is the hardware acceleration only being applies to browsing and the UI? or also to applications and games?
In addition to the above questions, how will ICS affect the hardware acceleration on the SGSII? Will it be disabled in favor of the ICS style hardware acceleration or will they live together happily ever after?
My apologies for the kind of weird requests. But I do sincerely hope you guys can help me decide whether to get this device or stick with the Sensation XE.
Regards,
Vex

Oh man, many questions and I can only give a few answers:
1. Earphone quality is IMO good. As I do not have a Sensation XE, I can not compare it directly. There are some tests (Google search is your friend ;-) which might give a more experience-based opinion.
2. + 3. + 4. Can't say much about gaming performance, as I am not a gambler.
5. I am running a stock ROM (XWKJ1, Android 2.3.5) and battery life is OK for me. With permanent wifi on, no bluetooth, no GPS, permanent Skype and Google Talk, some email, often internet news and looking into xda-developers forum, a nightly charged battery has about 50% in the evening. So, with less usage my phone could work for about two days.
There are many custom ROMs, which are specialized for optimizing battery life.
You have to set your priority between battery life and performance.
6. Benchmark scores ... which benchmark?
On Quadrant Standard, I usually have 3000-4000 with the stock ROMs.
My actual score is about 3400 as I am running CF-Root kernel XWKI8, which is not based on the real stock kernel of my ROM (XWKJ1).
But to have more than 4000 points in Quadrant, I think you have to use a custom ROM specialized for performance or at least overclock the CPU.
7. No custom ROM.
8. Good question. I think that hardware acceleration is in general available for any app too ... but ... if any app will use it, I really don't know. Each manufacturer ans even each phone has a different hardware and therefore need a different hardware acceleration, so that would be a very hard job for a developer to get familiar with all available hardware-specific APIs. At least the app of the manufacturer itself (=> Samsung) should use hardware acceleration.
But I am not sure about even this.
9. Hmm ... complicated question. I heard that the SGS2 or better the hardware of the SGS2 is 100% compatible with IceCreamSandwich. And that's it. I have got no more infos about this topic.
I will think about such issues just before getting ready for flashing ICS onto my SGS2. Hoping that there will be more and official statements up to this moment.
Regardless of the fact that you aren't able to answer all the questions, I really do appreciate your reply to these matters.
2 Days on battery, that's quite amazing seeing as my XE only lasted for about 8-10 hours on normal use with Wifi on.
Quadrant scores are also quite impressive, even at stock.
I really do hope that someone can clarify more on the amtter of ICS' hardware acceleration. I'm eager to find out how it differs from the acceleration currently present on the SGSII

I'm on Androidmeda 2.5 with Siyahkernel 2.0. I can typically get about 4.5 to 5 hours of screen time.
It's my theory that the basic ROM itself shouldn't affect the battery life. It's the different init.d scripts of optimization and the kernel that will have *some* effect given that you don't OC/UC or OV/UV. Mostly it should be what apps you run in the background like facebook, skype, etc.
Also I find that having wifi and data always on doesn't affect my battery life too much if I disable background sync.
Thanks for that reply.
4-5 hours does seem a little meager though. Then again my Sensation lasted for about as long as that, if not less.
Eager to hear more opinions!
Hey guys, I was recently trying out a few games on my Rezound, namely Real Racing 2 and Let's Golf 3. I was wondering... does anyone else seem to have issues with really choppy graphics with these games? The frame rate dips to really low but it seems like it's just capped at a low speed and not hiccuping.
I'm wondering if it's my device or if it's a known issue cause I'd imagine the Adreno GPU we're using isn't complete garbage.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
I'm also experiencing laggyness and slow frame rate on temple run and switch. Our rezounds should easily handle these games.
same issues here im afraid. ics is pretty laggy as is.
Maybe an issue with your ROM and kernel?
Just theorycrafting.
I noticed this but only after flashing the leaked ruu

im on old firmare with rezrom ics and i get alot of lag myself. i think it's more a kernel issue.
Hmm, Sorry about that I forgot to mention I'm on stock gingerbread right now.
Maybe HTCs not updating our drivers?
I am on Nils Gingersense with stock kernel. Temple run performs perfectly for me. Maybe there is something taxing the processor/gpu? Shadowgun also is smooth.

I just put mine down from playing Temple Run. It runs buttery smooth. Not one single hick-up. My girlfriend was amazed how smooth and crisp the graphics were. I've got a CPU load monitor bar app that shows the load. It RARELY hits 100%. It's usually hovering around the 70-80% area on Temple Run.

Running temple run on my phone, latest leak, Scott's DE rom and kernel. No lag issue.

I can pretty much play all games. I have long been a doubter of snapdragon chipsets GPU since my OG incredible. I'm currently unlocked, running completely stock with the exception of the unlock. I figured I'd see how the newer adreno 220 fairs with the HD screen and have been extremely happy with graphics performance and ill be the first one to admit that this blows my GNex out of the water. So much so that I've since sold that phone in favor of more storage, better screen, better camera and overall better phone.

I have not used ics yet, so I don't know where exactly it is in settings. but there is an option for force gpu rendering. try enabling it.
What rom and kernel are you currently using?
You may just be unlucky or I may be lucky. I've never had any lag issues on any configuration I have used so far. I can't imagine you have tons of background processes also running.

How were you even able to get Real Racing 2 on your Rezound in the first place?
The Google Play store isn't letting me Install it, because it's not compatible for some reason; yet you have it on your phone?
I don't get it. :/
i have a non touch rezound with all stock and runs pretty well
Well, I'm having some trouble when it comes to 3D rendering on my phone, whenever I use a combination of an AOSP/AOKP based rom (happened to me with latest Task's AOKP and Slim Bean build 5) and some semi intensive and, of course, intensive games, after some time, system crashes completely, the sound gets stuck in a loop of the latest 0.1 seconds (lol) and pretty much nothing works, I have to pull the battery. This happens normally in the first 30 seconds.
I believe this happens because of the new drivers, as those games (Rayman Origins, Beach Buggy Blitz and Real Racing 3) work perfectly with stock JB. But those are just guesses. Any help is appreciated,
Thanks!
It's not that I'm hurrying you, or demanding you to help me, but I'm still having the same problem and I can't find any solution. :S Please lol
If you couldn't give the answer for this you didn't look hard enough.

hey there, just flashed task's 4.2.2 yesterday and I am getting the same problem while trying to play Simpsons Tapped Out. Have you been able to figure anything out?
I originally thought it was the kernal having an issue with allocating resources, but my searches show that other people have the same problem with 4.2.2. If this is how its gonna be I may have to revert back to 4.1.2....

Check cpu/gpu voltage levels. My phone used to crash when playing graphically intensive games until I realized my gpu voltages were set too low.
This happens to me with NFS Most Wanted and NOVA 3. Any other game seems to work. I really want 4.2.2 CM 10.1 or AOKP or any of those Nexus like ROMs, but I ran into the same problem with all of them. Came to the conclusion is just 4.2.2 Vanilla based ROMs. Since then I've switched to SHOstock3. I really want the Nexus experience though. I just don't want to have to give up games I've paid for .
Hey folks , I got some strange problems with my phone here.
So,what's my story about. My gaming performance just suddenly got bad. Before,I was on official 4.3 with everything stock and games ran flawlessly. Then I flashed AOSP ROM and everything still worked as it should (games didn't lag) and I was on AOSP for more than 4 months.
Now,I flashed back stock sammy-based ROM , and only after 4 days,I noticed that gaming performance is really bad.
Let's start from the fact that only god knows what I've done with my phone today to fix that, but I was unsucsessful. I changed ROMs,kernels, tweaked my phone, overclocked it,but nothing , games still lag like hell. Real Racing 3 has BIG fps drops, dead trigger 2 (low) has some lag spikes and some fps drops, too. Now I downloaded modern combat 4 and it was unplayable! I haven't flashed stock with odin,as my computer doesn't read my phone in download mode (again!),so I'm lazy to do it on other computer. But still thinking of that. Maybe at least very official ROM is the last hope.
So,can anyone help me? This is the first problem which I can't fix and that's bothering me,though I already got used to fact that now I may have to live without gaming, lol. Not a big problem,as for now. But really? What can be the cause? What's wrong with my phone? Why is UI smooth, why can't I see any lag when watching HD videos and etc, but games lag so badly? Look how good my score in antutu is (no overclocking, cpu and gpu - everything stock):
If you are using a custom kernel disable zram. Real racing 3 will lag when offers are loaded at the title screen. If you get lag in game then you have something else going on.
System panel on the playstore can help you see what is going on. Also disable dvfs with the xposed module as that causes issues with overclocked devices.

I'm not overclocked.
Btw,will try and report back. Thanks!
EDIT: Helped partially, like 20%,but still lags, just less fps drop downs. Thanks for trying to help!
Anyone else. Would like to fix this issue.
No one?
I have similar problem (just posted a help thread about it), in my case it's thermal throttling which is scaling down CPU to 800MHz after 5 mins of playing heavy games. try running CPU analyzer from System Tuner and check if that's the problem.

Sometimes the games lag but not like u mentioned.. If u want a stock 4.3 that is flashable via recovery and you can have great performance then i have one.. I really have and own it
