I already tried it... and it works well on LG stock 4.1.2 also. including Photosphere.
Edit: We don't have HDR mode. (on 4.1.2)

Failed to install for me on 6/23 Rootbox.

Works perfectly on slick jb. Photosphere worked pretty well too.

Workaround to get to install on Rootbox:
-browse to /system/app with a file browser
-find Gallery2.apk. Rename Gallery2.apk to Gallery2.apk.bak
-exit file browser
-install new camera app as you normally would (sideload)
Optional if you want your old camera and the new one (I did, cause there's more options in the RootBox camera, and it can save to external - the new one can't)
-go back in your file browser, and rename the Gallery2.apk.bak to Gallery2.apk. (it will be at the bottom of the list now due to the .bak extension)
you will now have 2 cameras in your app drawer.
This worked for me (i already had 2 cameras installed by using ponyexpress' sphere fix) and the new camera overwrote pony's sphere camera.
Edit: getting gallery fc when trying to save pics with new cam. Clearing app data didn't seem to solve this. Still messing around trying to get it to work right.
Edit 2: At work, so can't spend too much time with it. If I already have GalleryGoogle.apk installed (from ponyexpress' prior sphere fix) it will install itself as a system app, overwriting pony's fixed sphere camera. If I rename GalleryGoogle.apk to GalleryGoogle.apk.bak before I install, it will install as a user app (presumably because there is no GalleryGoogle.apk in /system/app to overwrite??).
In both cases, the gallery will force close immediately after taking the first photo with the camera. I can re-open the camera app, and take one more shot, then get another gallery force close. The photos I'm taking are being saved, and are viewable in the gallery. Clearing app data for GalleryGoogle.apk in either case does not fix the force close. Also, once I clear app data the UI in the new camera gets mangled - it appears that all the functions still work and are in their proper places, but the icons representing many of them are either wrong or absent. Not sure what to make of this. If installed as a system app, uninstalling updates then reinstalling results in screwed up UI from the get-go.
I've pretty much reached the extent of my troubleshooting knowledge on this - if anyone has any other suggestions, I'll give them a shot. A full wipe may be helpful, but I'm not in a position to do that until after the weekend at the earliest - and I'm not convinced it will change anything. FWIW, I'm on houstonn's RootBox 6/28a build using his included kernel, Banks 4.2.2. multi-dpi gapps, houstonn's ATT NFC fix and as previously stated, pony's sphere camera flashable fix.

How is the quality on root box? Any better or worse?

I'm certainly not the best person to be comparing quality of camera apps to each other - but it looks about the same, or maybe slightly poorer than the included RootBox camera. This is with minimal testing and a very un-critical eye.

[Q] New Gallery for photos? I searched to no avail...

Has anyone been able to port a different gallery app? For instance the 3D one (don't know what it is called). The stock picture viewer is slow to render and a bit bothersome...
Google Gallery apk: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887425&highlight=gallery
And another one that quite a few people like, QuickPic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866827&highlight=gallery
The 3D gallery is available on www.sdx-developers.com under the Samsung Moment downloads. It works great on the NC.

Thanks, but Quickpic only looks at the SD card. Any way to make it look elsewhere?
Seems the same with Google Gallery. Will anything work?
Thanks,
kev
I love the cool iris gallery but it only shows the SDcard as well, which makes me mad
Has anyone tried JustPictures on their NookColor? I use this on my DInc for pics and love it. I am getting a NC on Friday and am hoping to be able to set my photos up the same on both devices this weekend.
Me too. Stock gallery is crap, for sure.
I tried installing google gallery and it wouldn't let me, I'm on 1.0.1 rooted
I use a modified 3D gallery for the Samsung Moment (actually modified for the Spica) ... camera button removed, solid black background, and no flickering thumbnail artifacts.
I've attached it for you!

[Q] cyanogenmod camera is bad

I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 a few days back and really love this ROM.
The camera though seems to be really bad. Everything appears dark once the picture is taken.
Is there any way to flash the stock camera to cyanogenmod ? Or any other solution ?
I can confirm this. Using Euroskank 12-26 kang, the camera seems to take an acceptable picture, but when first reviewed and later viewed in the gallery, the picture becomes very dark. Once viewed online or on another device, the picture seems to be fine.
So.. not really sure if it's a problem with the camera or the gallery.
Nothing to do with the hardware camera...Try flashing a stock camera apk or just revert back to your previous rom backup and do a clean wipe and try again
I seemed to have fixed the issue by moving all the pictures out of the DCIM folder and clearing the Gallery app data.

[Q] Samsung Camera on AOSP/CM10?

Hi guys,
I have used CM9 for a long long time on my SGS1 and the battery was amazing.
When I got my i9300 some months ago, i tried CM9 as soon as it was made available.
Soon I returned to a Samsung based ROM for one reason: the camera application.
Now I know that a project was started to bring some of the functionality to AOSP based roms here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611
Still the HDR functionality is missing and to be honest I simply would like the Samsung camera to work on CM10.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Samsung's camera needs the Touchwiz framework to operate, since all these apps and system modifications are heavily interdependant and cannot be individually moved around.
There should be enough other camera applications in Play Store, are there really NONE you like?
Should be able to port it if you want to take the time. Just make sure you have updated things to work with! How to port!
i am not sure if you noticed that while on CM10, the pictures and video playback quality is not as good as the stock gallery and stock player.
The pictures and videos seemed to have more noise on them.

Have you used the Samsung camera with that phone? It is amazing, and no pixel fuzz, and HDR and panorama, etc etc. It really is the best camera app.
If you really want it, I've made a package including the latest Samsung JB Camera app and the TouchWiz framework. It's not tested but uses the same principle as the Samsung Apps for CM10, so it might work. As always, backup first, then flash the zip with CMW. You can get it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?c7g9v8pup1x7r8j. Let me know if it works.

I flashed it and nothing happened. I don't see any camera app after the installation
I flashed it and with the new framework it say Optimizing apps.. so I take it, my install is goofy now with TW crap and it seems to be running with twice as much current..
Anyways no camera install, if I add the apk it just wont install, and not sure if it is because of CM10 mmqualcommcamera as kernel process..
But Samsung apps works.

Question about ROMs and the stock Camera APK

I've tried all the current offerings of ROMs, and now ended up back with Stock ROM, just rooted. The reason is, I didn't like the inferior camera apk all the ROMS seem to use, the stock ROMs camera APK takes better pictures. Any reason why ROMs don't/can't use the stock camera APK? If they can, how is everyone installing it, because I've tried and it won't work with ROMs for some reason. This is the only thing holding me back from using ROMs again as I like them better that the factory ROM.

I think HQ Camera is taking better pics than Stock one.But anyway, you always can grab stock camera & push it to your rom & set the permissions. That's all
The HQ camera is always pixilated and blurry for me. So how do you set permissions on the camera apk? When I tried installing it before, it installed but the app and camera icon disappeared.

I tried pushing the stock camera to the Energy ROM, and again the camera disappeared completely, it didn't work. I don't know what else to do here, I want to use a ROM, but I want the stock camera because I think it takes better pictures by far. Nobody else has done this or experienced this??
You should get something like ES File Explorer (should have came with Energy Rom) or Root Explorer (paid app on the PlayStore) so you can browse through your system/app files. But when you push the stock camera app you will also need to change the media_profiles.xml file as well. I actually think you can just replace the media_profiles.xml file only and get the same result.
I attached the stock Camera.apk (its deodexed) and the stock media_profiles.xml... The apk goes to /system/app and the xml goes to /system/etc and the permissions should be set to rw-r--r--
CameraTMO.apk
media_profiles.xml
I have both of those apps and I'll try it this evening, and post my results....thanks!
It worked perfectly! Thank you very much for the help and hosting the files, much appreciated.

No Camera App CM10

I have the latst CM10 that was posted on the forums but the camera app is not showing for me. Anybody know why? I installed gapps.
Nobody ha this issue before? I know the camera works because I can use it in google hangouts, I just don't have a camera app. Is there somewhere I can get it or does anyone understand why the stock isn't showing up?
It's odd that you don't have a camera app since it's a system app. Could you have accidently disabled it? If you didn't, you can find the Android 4.2 camera and flash it. Works fine except for photosphere.
Had the same problem; I was following one of the tutorials that advised to desactivate Gallery, but the photo app dissapeared when doing so. Reactivating Gallery brings back the photo app. Hope this helps...
the gallery apk does contain the camera runtimes, they aren't seperate.
