I FOUND ROOT
I tried rooting Motorola Defy XT555C on StraightTalk with SuperOneClick and it freezes on step 7. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
I attached a screenshot where the program freezes.

superoneclick has been "fixed" by motorola for the straittalk xt555c. it uses the ginger break method so ther root methods that use this method wont work either. you must be on the dreaded ver. 67d. you can check this in settings/about.
see my thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392187

Is this a fail-safe method to root this phone? If not is there one?
I'm a bit afraid to root it, because I have bought it recently and I do not what to turn it in to a brick
The software version of my phone is LG-P500-V10b Android 2.2
Thanks
Nothing is fail-safe.
That's why developers aren't reponsibles if you brick your device.
There is allways that chance.
I used the universal root and everything is working well.
If you are noob in this area, just read a litle more about using abd and flashing shipped ROMs.
Cheers
I had a Windows mobile before.. but in Android yes I'm a noob
In Linux I con not say that I'm 100% noob, but close to that.
So some noob questions:
What is "adb"? and
What is universal root? Is what this link talks about ?
Thx

Rooting itself is not problem I think. But, more possible problem can come with other solutions like firmware update/rewrite, flashing of custom ROM. For what do you need rooting?

Not for flashing...
Some apps can only be used in a rooted phone.
So my purpose is only to use these apps, not for flashing the phone with other ROMs
Rooted today
I just rooted today, Sunday, December 5 2010, an Optimus One which I have under t-mobile, using z4root. No problems at all. In fact, my only worry was that it might not have been correctly rooted because all I had to do was press a button, it restarts and that's it. Nothing else. I then removed all bloatware and the retarded unremovable trial version of pacman.
I have v10 and had downloaded all over the air upgrades that I had received up to that point, and it still worked perfectly. Also, I have Froyo.

So, in this case I thing that most better way is using of z-Root. There shouldn't be problem at all.

Welcome to the ROOT Team
Neither the z4root or the universal root worked for me on my girlfriends Optimus. z4root simply didn't work... tried about 5 times with no success. The Universal root stopped responding pretty much immediately. I'm pretty sure I followed directions to a "T". Anyone have suggestions?

That's the one that stops responding everytime I try it. I see ADB listed twice in the task manager... is that normal? As soon as ADB starts running is when it stops responding.

hmm.. do you have lg pc suite? it contains usb drivers for the optimus one.. without those you can't root.
superoneclick method:
turn on in phone settings, applications, develop, usb debugging
connect phone.. don't go into usb storage option (don't mount sd card).
right click on .exe -> run as administrator if you haven't.
and if you are on windows 7 or vista try to set compatibility options.
click root.
sorry if i tell you what you already know, but maybe it helps.
I downloaded the drivers from LG website for the Optimus One, run Superoneclick as administrator using Windows 7 64, checked usb debugging on the phone, etc. I have no idea why this is not working for me. I had no problems rooting my MyTouch Slide, which is pretty complex compared to this. My girlfriend says she doesn't care if I figure it out since its her phone, but the man in me just HAS to figure it out HAHA.
It's weired, I had no problem to root my phone using z4root.
I was on stock V10A (Europa) and z4root worked very well. I had upgraded to V10D using LG's crappy software, and after rooting it again with z4root it was well working.
Have you tried to use LG's firmware instead of the operator's one ?
I finally got it rooted using z4root. Said to myself that I would try "one more time" and POOF... it worked. Thanks everyone for your help.

Im assuming you have 1.5.7 if thats the case you cant root by conventional means try this link

Picked up an Artix from AT&T yesterday and so far, it's a great phone. I'm trying to ROOT this phone with no success. I've tried everything suggested in the forums, I have all the drivers and tools required, but can not get this done. When I run superoneclick and select "root" it hangs on "waiting for device". If somebody could give me detailed step by step instructions, I would be grateful. I'm running on the latest firmware update which is 4.1.57
I've successfully rooted my Nexus S and Inspire 4g with no problem, so I have some experience doing this. Please Help!!
use gingerbreak. It's much easier

Same here. How did you ROOT your Atrix?
I think it is because of the update 4.1.57 that was released a few weeks ago. I've had my atrix since released and rooted it right away just fine; however, when i try to install the update it crashes and i have to pull the battery and reboot.
i just rooted my atrix yesterday with no problem using gingerbreak so that can't be it

What version firmware are you on? And how did you do it?
I'm using 4.1.57. It's the newest one and you should be using that if you're trying to root.
I put the app on my atrix and simply clicked "root"

I did the same and rooted it without my Atrix any problem.
You guys are aware that gingerbreak has an EXTREMELY high risk of formatting you sd card right? I personally suggest using gladroot its less messing and it enables sideloading for you also NEVER use superoneclick that programs nothing but a mess on our phones.
Here's the link for gladroot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
thats just my 2 cents
sent from XDA mobile
In the instructions on this site it mentions to make a backup of your sdcard. And if that's the only issue, I can deal with it since it's so simple
Also to enable sideloading, download root explorer and sqlite. Go into root explorer --> ers.settings/databases/settings.db. It'll bring you into sqlite. Select secure and the second line should be "install non market apps". Change the value from zero to one
Hi guys
I have a stock Atrix 2.2.2 in South Africa.
I have tried to root it more than 2 times now, to no avail.
I have tried oneclick, and gingerbreak. It runs until it says installing psneuter, and then nothing happens.
I reboot the device, and its fine........
Its almost like its not pushing the break correctly.
Can someone please help me to get my phone rooted. I want o try the Webtop Hack, i am not getting it to work on the non rooted option.
Thanks alot!
Try again, uninstall drivers if you install them, reboot computer, install them again from here: http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles...al_Drivers/MotoHelper_2.0.53_Driver_5.2.0.exe ,and reboot again.
Now, try the root again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548
If still don't work, you can try unlock the bootloader and then you will get root easily.
Read more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
But if its South Africa device, you may get a brick, non functional phone.
Gingerbreak is for you
Sent from my CM860
Thanks guys for the tips
Still didnt work. I didnt try the first option as it says it is for 2.3.4. I Have 2.2.2. I have also now tried gingerbreak 1.2, same thing. It says rooting etc, but just stays there for an hour.
After i manually reboot, nothing.....
Has anyone else been experiencing this?
The one click root is for you too, read:
This method works on Motorola phones running Android OS 2.3.4 or earlier

From the top line in the link.
Don't forget to install drivers.
Another suggestion, try on other computer, other usb port.
