[Q] CyanogenMod Question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi mates, My S3 is over a year old now and the TW redraw issue is still here. So I decided to use a custom Rom. I tried to research CyanogenMod ROM and I'm little confused. Could someone please answer my questions below?
1. Version 10.1 is Jellybean 4.2 and 10 is 4.1?
2. I can see version 10.1 with "nightly" build thread. Does this means that this is not a stable build yet?
3. What is the stable version for I9300 Galaxy S3?
4. I know that this is the most popular CustomRom and the devs are doing this for free and it's unfair to ask this question. But how can we make sure that this rom doesn't have anything that can steal our private info? Like Keyloggers, malwares, etc?
5. Could you please provide me a link of the best way to install this rom?
TIA

Hi there fellow,
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. See 2
4.Well I guess you'll just need to trust the dev like all of us doing.
Same as for stock roms they can also potentially retrieve your info. Maybe you'll find this useful for you:
https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/iLrvqH8tbce
5. Just visit the development and original development sections and look for the AOSP ones.
Cheers

Thanks mate, but number 3 is quite confusing, 10.1 is not stable right?

cyanogenmod seems to be the best kernel , at least for samsung phones!!
I have a ATT Samsung GII and currently have it rooted fine. Sadly, every one is changing all the roms to ICS and I am currently forced to use a specific application for billing my miles to work that does not run at all on ICS.
I would try to talk to the developers of that app to see if they could just recompile it for ICS but now that they have the app booming on the iPhone they have pretty much dropped any support for Android.
Right now I am downloading the Android SDK so that I might be able to run this app in the SDK on my laptop.
My questions:
1. Is the Android SDK the only way I can run an Android emulator to run this app?
2. Is there a good place on XDA (or some where else) where I could list out the features I need in a specific application and other people could suggest apps that match the requirements? There are many pay for apps that sound like they would work for me but 15 minutes is not long enough to test the apps out before I cannot get a refund.
Hi...
I am a newbie around here. I want to try some clockwork recovery with my old huawei C8500. I already installed the rom manager v4.4.0.7. But it says I have to install clockwork recovery first. So when I click yes, then it ask for my phone model. But, I can't find my phone. Its have like huawei U series and some other phone models. But not my C8500. Can you tell me how to download it and explain what CWM and how it works and a lil detail for some walkthroughs for how to use CWM? Really thanks for any good answers. Thx

Try Resurrection remix 2.6.1. Based on ICS and stable as a rock. I'm pretty new myself and been using it for a while.Easy to install and no issues whatsoever. :good:
First of all, are you sure you have an i9100 and not an i9100G, a skyrocket (AT&T or Rogers), a Galaxy S2 LTE HD, etc?
If you do have an i9100, this is the forum for you. If not, try and find your right forum...
I'd look in the SGS2 android dev forums and not the Original Android Dev forums. Alot of cooks have ROMs with SGS3-like themes... And there's possibly a touchwiz5 mod in the themes section. I know the ripple lockscreen was ported too...
To be honest, alot of ROMs exist but it's a question of taste... I know Resurrection remix is a popular one. Alot of people switched to Cyanogenmod when ICS hit though, as ICS wasn't up to par for Samsung's implementation...
Your best bet is to flash a custom kernel with CWM recovery in Odin (Alot of guides to do this) like CF-Root and then grab ROMs and flash them through CWM. If you want a kernel that's able to dual boot, you can use DreamKernel, Siyah, etc. That way you can get one ROM going and test a second ROM as a secondary. Dual booting can be achieved because we have a 500MB partition on our phones that isn't used for anything... Fun, is it not?
And The other rom is pfittech ics rom and is also stable and he is working on stable jb rom as among other devs

I'd go with rootbox. Just because the dev updates more frequently does not mean it's a better rom. The ones who don't update frequently just mean they don't have bugs to fix...

No apologies needed for the English. I don't know that you're going to have much luck. That device isn't very well supported. The specifications for the device are rather dated compared to most current devices. I wouldn't suggest anything better than gingerbread running on it anyways. Perhaps you'd have better luck working on a port of cyanogenmod 7.2 What goals do you want to accomplish by running a custom ROM?

For the Custom ROM, I want the innovations of ICS, for example a new graphic, a new more easy multitasking, the ability to create folders on the desktop, widgets resizable ..
I would ask if it's possible create a porting of the Cyanogenmod 10. Is it possible?

I'm sure it's technically possible as long as the devs could get their hands on the drivers. I bet video playback would cause issues. However, I don't see too many folks pouring resources into this one. Some of the reasons you listed may be achieved by a custom launcher. Try go launcher or maybe holo.

[Q&A]Thinking of putting [Q]/[q] in Your Title? Post All Questions/Problems Here!!
Welcome to the Q&A Thread for ALL Versions of the Samsung Galaxy Player!!
As some of you may know, there are many people who create new threads here and some of their issues can be resolved within two or three posts. The purpose of this thread is be able for people to post the problems that they are having with either installing a rom/kernel, or other GENERAL issues that people are experiencing with their devices.
NOTE: ALL ROM/KERNEL RELATED ISSUES ARE TO BE POSTED IN THE THREAD OF THE ROM/KERNEL. If you are NOT able to post in the dev section yet, please send me a PM. If you are NOT sure that your issue is ROM/KERNEL related, post here and we will tell you.
Requirements when posting here:
MOST IMPORTANT: Check this: Frequently Asked Questions - Samsung Galaxy Players to see if your question has already been answered.
What version of the Galaxy Player you have. (3.6, 4.0, 4.2, 5.0)
ROM name, and for ICS/JB, ROM versions/build date
Android Version
Kernel. If you have the standard kernel that the ROM installs, say "default"
Description of problem. What you did to arrive at problem
Any extra info that would be helpful
Thank you for posting here and not creating a new thread. Hoping to see a decrease in thread creations. This is also to consolidate all issues for ease of finding them.
Thanks to:
Zaclimon: for helping me come up with an idea as to reducing the number of threads being created.
Kennyglass123: for approving of the creation of this thread

Reserved in case something else is needed.
OK people listen up, especially all of you that are new to this section of XDA.
This thread was made to prevent people from making so many threads and clogging up the general section. It was also made because we do not have a dedicated Q&A section.
So here is the story. after i created this thread, over the course of the next 2 days, at LEAST 4 threads were made with [Q] in the title. Then on top of it, most of them if not all, were solved within at page or 2. i have been telling people to post here, but apparently it is doing no good.
so here is the bottom line: If you are planning on posting a thread with a question and or plan on having "[Q]" in your title, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD, post HERE and do NOT create a new thread. thank you.
P.S. as a side note, i am trying to avoid having this stickied because for those of you that use the mobile XDA app, you cannot see stickied threads. if you use tapatalk you can though but XDA is free so i think more people use it. im giving it one more day before i request it to be stickied and thats it.

ya that is because when you mix all three roms together, they take up some decent ram because of all the different things that are available.
as for going back, download cm10.1 (if thats what you choose) flash rom and gapps --> wipe dalvik and cache --> reboot
better 10.1

Hey!
For start i will say that THIS IS NOT BEST ROM THREAD
I just wanna ask ppl wich roms they are using on their S3 i9300. Because getting through unsegregated list of AOSP/AOKP/STOCK roms is little confusing and i cannot find some kind of list of stock modified roms(i dont like that holo feel).

Thanks for reply but the list you linked links to aosp/aokp roms wich i simply hate.
And now im on Wanam rom and i realy hate it. it may have sammy base but in end it behaves just like aokp/aosp.
Thanks anyway.
I sense a mod will lock this one quite quickly, there is a good reason why it's against the rules -all the useful threads would disappear in a flood of pointless babble.

I used also Wanam rom and it was really good if ur after stock. U might want to try S4 Revolution also, its as close as it gets to stock with updates from S4 if u pick the right stuff in AROMA.
