[Q] Free Tethering w/o root??? Old tmobile plan. - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

I was wondering is there any apn trick or app I can install to get free wifi hotspot. I am on tmobile old plan that doesn't have free tether. My contracts not up yet. Anyway I can tether for free? Without having to root. Thanks

Edit: just saw you were looking for a solution that doesn't involve rooting. Disregard

Theres a whole thread on T-Mobile tethering on just the second page of this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260916
And can you be more specific with "old plan"
With my "old plan" I had 500mb of free tethering, and I used a user-agent changer extension with chrome to evade T-Mobile's tethering blocks.
Now I use a personal VPN.

WiFi tethering issue

After I installed the new ICS leak I can't get internet on my laptop using my phone to tether either with wireless or when hooked up with USB.
I'm getting a 503 error in google chrome.
Says no internet connection, but I do get internet as I would normally on my phone.
Was able to tether prior to ICS but not now.
Any suggestions?

I was gonna ask that same question right now. At least it is not only me. lol.
Thing is, I don't use T-Mo I use Simple Mobile. Uses T-Mo network but not T-Mo so I should be able to tether unlike the other thread who said its a T-Mo thethering issue.

I know what Simple Mobile is. It's an ICS issue if you are trying to use "Wireless Tether For Root Users" or any other tether app that is not native.
Trying to tether both wired and wireless and no joy
I'm using the installed tether nothing from the store.
Any workarounds that you know of Hasoon?

Just solved it! lol.
Download this
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk
After you install it, press the menu button and choose settings.
Click "Change Device-Profile" and select "Generic ICS"
Go down and check "Routing Fix"
Then it works!

On T-Mobile, without them bugging you to sign up for the tethering plan? I thought they closed that hole ages ago! I don't tether much, but it's good to know for just-in-case!

Well sad panda, after the wireless tether app from Hasoons post and the APN changes to my hotspot settings, ol' tmo caught up with me, dinged my account/sim or whatever they do, now can't even tether on my trusty HD2 sniffle sniffle, guess is gonna up my bill another $15 to power my laptop. Hope one of the devs can figure a work around or patch.

You didn't need to change the APN for my method. Just do the routing fix as I said and you'll be fine.
To late tmo caught me lol, the wifi tether app worked great though

They've been lenient till lately a bout people using the hotspot without being signed up for, however now they're more on guard for misuse of it lol, like I posted a couple posts ago can't even use tethering in my HD2 now, so I've been flagged, it was great while it lasted. I'm sure someone will figure out a patch for it soon I hope

USB Tethering without a custom rom

Other than using an app like PDA Net that limits the useability of the tether, is there anyway to tether over USB without a custom rom? (I would prefer without root, but I know that may be asking too much).
Oh and I am on the Sprint Galaxy S3.
I have a GS3 on TMO. wireless tethering works out of the box...no root/rom.....I'm on monthly 4g...technically they charge $15 a month, but it works...Haven't used it extensively...from what I hear if you use it for a bit here and there they won't catch it... If you plan on using it all the time...either root or pay the fee
Try FoxFi

+1 Discovered this last week and it's awesome
Thanks for the recommendations guys. FoxFi does look awesome and simple enough even for the parents haha. Does anyone know any USB tethering options as well? I prefer it sometimes because of battery life. I don't mind if it needs root, I know most solutions do need it.
USB tethering should be on the phone by default, free usage.

Thanks I got it working, for some reason I couldn't get it working before and thought sprint had disabled it like they had on the Samsung Epic (SGS1).

[Q] whats best for tethering

I used to use FoxFi and wireless tether, now both wont work on my GN2 I am running beans rom. Does anyone have a fix for either app or a new way to tether.?

It works through the ROM without any extra Apps. Just turn it on through the Wifi menu, or use the toggle from the pull down menu.
You'll get the red Verizon wifi icon in your task bar, but as long as you don't get a message to sign up for the wifi plan, you're good to go.
and if you get the subscription notification, just download portable wifi hotspot from playstore and that app will bypass it.
Gnome is correct. No apps needed with Beans ROMs.

To get the best results I have used the TrevE mod wifi tether app which can also be installed via beans rom... I find that I get FULL download and upload bandwidth from Verizon versus the stock app where I only get about 5-10mbps down and about 5mbps upload... You do have to have the correct settings though. The settings can be found in Bean's rom thread and it has been working great for me with no disconnects and about double the speed of the stock app! :good:

if you still have unlimited data then you need a app such as portable wifi hotspot to bypass subscription.

seriously lets not split hairs...you know what i meant. im saying unlimited data users can not just open the stock hotspot app and tether. a toggle or 2nd party app is required.
I am thinking about bucking up and buying one of these full price because I don't want to loose unlimited data. WiFi tether is my biggest need for free of course. On my droid x I use WiFi tether beta works like a top is this possible on rooted stock or is via custom ROM needed? Considering the 750$ I want to get the best bang for my buck any input is appreciated thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with that app. But like you, I use WiFi tether all the time, with an unlimited plan. "Portable WiFi Hotspot" works great, with stock and rooted as well. Available from the Market, and free to boot.
Thank you yeah I have been digging around and from what I read if you get a subsidized phone that the take your grandfathering that's why I think I will have to buy it outright at full price it sucks but I can burn through 5 gigs a week between hulu and Netflix tethering 2 other devices so a tiered data plan would kill me.
Don't waste your time with native Verizon hotspot app.

[Q] Newbie on tethering on the DNA - Fees? App?

Hello,
I'm probably trading my S3 for a DNA.
FoxFi works great on my S3 even after the latest official firmware update.
I currently have a 2GB plan with no tethering. I'd like to make sure tethering can be done on the DNA without any additional fees. From what I've been told it does not support foxfi but has built in hotspot.
Any details would be helpful before I make the switch.
Thanks!
Built in didn't work well for me, but a play store version does. You can definitely do it.

[Q]Mobile hotspot unlimited data root?

Just wondering if, when you root the s4, are there any additional hacks to get free mobile hotspot tethering? My droid 3 was hacked with a custom Rom, and a radio hack, and still would not allow mobile hotspot without paying the 20 dollars a month for mobile hotspot.

Wondering this myself. I know the TMobile version has this figured out.
These posts are everywhere on the s4 forums it's ridiculous. Please go read one. You do not need root for wifi tether to activate without subscription

Thank you. I've seen about 30 threads asking the same exact question.
Simply answer, you don't need any wireless tether apps, just use the built in hotspot with a widget such as "Portable WiFi Hotspot".
+1 to the portable wifi hotspot app.

This only lets you use 500mb free. Then you have to pay T-Mobile more. I'm already paying $70 for unlimited internet.
What's a good third party hotspot app for rooted users?
I use Tethering Widget without any problems.
I get a page warning that I've used over 500mb when using Portable Wi-Fi hotspot widget.

I think you're getting that because you're on T-Mobile. They might have something for you in the T-Mobile S4 forum...
