It did that to me on the last Note 2 I unlocked. I tried another version of casual and it worked fine.
You could try that and if it dont work, try asking in the casual unlocking thread

Here's the nightly link: http://goo.im/devs/AdamOutler/VZWGalaxyNote2
I'm also having issues getting unlocked/rooted. Just got 2 brand new note 2's from best buy, been drooling all day to get goodness rom(had it on sprint, love it!) but casual keeps freezing on me in download mode as well. Is there an irc channel I can get into and get going? My titanium backup NEEDS to be restored! lol

The reason I told you to look it up is not because I don't want to help you, it is because it is extremely easy to find and by you not even looking it shows you're lazy.
You have to get used to the forums and finding **** yourself, that is why those of use who help the noobs out try to get them to find things for themselves. It instills confidence and gives them an idea of how the forums are laid out. You refusing to look it up after being told to shows you're lazy and want everything handed to you.

I know this wasn't directed at me and you're right it was easy to find maybe he's just never used XDA before? I've been rooting phones for years and understand this but I was a bit overwhelmed my first few weeks, me lurk you long time!!!
Anyway, to the OP:
I think I figured it out. Just to say I tried it I clicked the MTP box on my phone(Under USB Options when you plug it in) and then ran casual. Maybe I should ask Adam to put "DO IT IN MTP MODE" lol
It worked since I'm look at TWRP and about to get flashing, the wife and I need some ROMs! :good:

Seriously? I told him exactly where it was. If he can't find it then maybe he shouldn't be doing such complicated things.
I busted my ass reading everything I could before I unlocked my S3 and before I flashed any Roms just to make sure I didn't **** anything up even though that wasn't my first rodeo with flashing and unlocking. If I had questions I asked them but if I was told to look something up I damned well did it. If he absolutely couldnt find it because it was some obscure post that would be one thing, that however is not the case. I did all that research again when I unlocked my Note 2. He obviously knew to post in Q&A instead of General or one of the Dev sections, that says he had some knowledge of the forums layout and where to post what.
Him not looking it up was pure laziness, if he cannot find such a simple thread then he doesn't need to be unlocking and flashing ROMs.

This method has already been confirmed to not work on the Canadian Notes, any chance of it working on the att note?
Sent from my SGH-I717R using xda premium
First of all, if this is for the EU Note, it's probably gonna be more difficult to port to the US Note than, say a ICS leak for the Skyrocket (same SoC as US Note). And secondly, the link in the OP basically gives me a 404.

I'm downloading it now to mirror it elsewhere, but it's gonna take 2-3 hours. Really slow.
The host (uploading.to) stopped allowing downloads from American IP addresses due to the whole megaupload thing. A non-US proxy would work faster if you have access to one.

Dumb Queston but Please answer Respectfully

I just "updated" my Galaxy Note by using Odin to install the new leak 4.0.4 and was wondering if somebody could point me in the best direction for rooting my device. Not a "noob" but I'm new to Samsung in general. I don't want to brick my device or possibly mess it up in any way. Also I would like to be able to install further releases of leaked roms and root again. Any advice and information would be helpful. Thank you

You are respectfully asked to read the stickies that answer your dumb question
as far as i know you need to flash clockworkrecovery odin version, after that you can use cwm to flash superuser file that will give you root. read "official" leak thread, it has been covered few times.
Thank you. Figured that would be the response lol I'll do that

Everything begins with ODIN. Flash Leak thru ODIN then flash CWM recovery thru ODIN. Then download the SU 307.zip and flash thru CWM. That is all you need to do to root your phone. You should be able to do everything in less than 15-20mins.

Not to sound mean... But if you are asking about basic stuff, you might want to:
- Read some threads before you start flashing
- use the search function
- follow the thread instructions following the above two suggestions.
Try to troubleshoot yourself first... All your issues are solvable by searching.

I agree with this POV.
If someone is having trouble simply installing/updating CWM, they absolutely need to do more reading, or chances are they will badly mess up their phone.
Using ODIN and installing CWM are rooting 101, and I would advise any SGS3 user to make sure they know these 2 bits of software inside and out, before jumping into CM9/CM10, as both are not fully stable, and will require additional knowledge to get them working correctly, if it is yet possible given the current build states of each.
If CWM installs, or ODIN flashes are not pieces of cake for you, you should probably pick a different ROM until they are.
Yes we all started somewhere, but a big tip from experienced users to noobs, is to learn how to swim, before jumping in the deep end. And CM9/CM10 is definitely the "deep end" of the Android pool, at least until the builds reach RC status, if not at least beta, as things wont work, or are yet to come upstream.
It takes as much time to flame as it does to post helpful advice. How do you want to be remembered?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Telling some one that cant swim, how to jump into the deep end, is not my idea of "helpful" advice.
Sometimes the "helpful" advice is.. "you are not ready yet"
It may not be what the person wanting to jump into the deep end wants to hear, but it may save their phone, until they know what they need to, to get where they want to be.

Thanks man...:good:
I know the sense of panic you have when you trash your phone, here's hoping some users understand that by searching first, almost 98% of the answers are out there.
That being said, I am willing to help out, given what I know, but I am willing to bet there are posts already done that lay it out there, step by step, on how to recover from this...???
Again, to anyone seeing this, not trying to be a **** here, but the search function really has tremendous value when looking, don't just try one term, use several variants of terms when searching. I bet you'll find something, heck..you may find out something off your first search topic that'll get you there better or quicker.
OP ...have you looked at this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736476
Well I'm yet to find a detailed guide, I haven't been able to find one - I'm not going to do something based off a bad or poorly written guide, I am not going to risk breaking my new galaxy s3. I am yet to find a guide that suits my standard of usage; it would be nice for someone to point one out to me instead of making a debate oh whether I can or can not do something - please don't consdend me.

I take it you have the SGS3 for AT&T, correct?
What exactly do you need a guide for, upgrading CWM?
I take you are rooted, what version of CWM do you have, and what version are you trying to upgrade to?
What version & build of CM are you trying to install, the file name should give the specifics?
Does the ODIN count matter to you?
okay download CWM for your phone from :http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Rename it to recovery.img , and copy the file to your phone's internal /sdcard
Grab android terminal emulator from the play store and run the same commands starting with su in the box below.
just type: su
then
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

for those having problems with roms pre vramc3 and are having boot loop problems I would recommend getting a usb jig on eBay or Amazon or making one.

It'll save you a ton of time dealing with those finicky pit files and spending hours on Odin.
Then you can download whatever stock Rom and flash it with Odin!

You can always get around the url posting by doing something like wwwDOTgoogleDOTcom or something similar.

for those having problems with roms pre vramc3 and are having boot loop problems I would recommend getting a usb jig on eBay or Amazon or making one.
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/
It'll save you a ton of time dealing with those finicky pit files and spending hours on Odin.
Then you can download whatever stock Rom and flash it with Odin!

Dude please stop telling people about JTags and JIGs on eBay if their phone can boot then there is a 99.9% chance that there is a fix or workaround for what they're experiencing...usually people are not explaining the problem correctly but even still this guy said his phone is working and he is up and running....straight to the point just please stop telling people they need to buy extra stuff without first trying to help them or fully understanding what exactly the problem is that theyre experiencing....i know you want to help which in my opinion is fantastic but even if you dont know the answer try and look it up for them or direct them in the right place for further assistence before telling them they need to buy something which in reality is just not the case

I posted that before shangrila corrected me. You're right, I'm sorry :/ I won't be recommending that at all. I think those were the only two posts I made about them. Sorry!

Its fine man it really is....most of the time if you can AT THE VERY LEAST boot your phone into download mode then you should be okay and there is probably a fix but you just have to find it....keep helping people man even just pointing someone in the right direction is a much much much better way to go about helping than telling someone to buy something that is very unnecessary.... Keep it up though man you'll be fine just please stop with the JTags and JIGs lol
So I reverted my bootloader back to 4.1.1 unlocked and rooted it again. Updated my radio to 4.1.2 now I feel like I have my phone again.

Thanks for the clarification. From my understanding, the devs are still working on JB so this link made me wonder if a rogue developer already tackled the JB Rom.

Here bud:

It's more of a process to root and s-off an ICS stock bolt than it was to do so on GB, but it's possible. You may have to create an account to view the guide, but I know it works.

Sites like that always obscure the facts to increase views. JB is being worked on by at least three developers, but, as has been in the past, getting data will take time due to the RIL on this phone.

I know you can pay to get it rooted at halfcab123.com its just a little pricey. Its what I used when I first rooted. I went back to stock twice after that and rooted myself those times. The ICS root isn't really too difficult but be patient and you can get it without paying.

Downgrade back to GB then use Revolutionary before the auto update. I have the update.zip on dropbox and will post the link once I am home if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Try that then use Revolutionary. Just google it for exact instructions.
Really??? Pay somebody? It's pretty easy man. First option, as pointed out by somebody previously, downgrade, root, etc; second option http://www.thunderboltforums.com/fo...how-gain-root-s-off-after-taking-ics-ota.html Just pay attention to what you're doing and it won't take long (unless you're new to this) and you should be on your way.
Sorry just realized how old this was, my apologies.
Never pay someone to do something that you can do yourself for free.
