[Q] How the capacitive buttons' lights work? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I'd like to know what controls the process of powering on and off of capacitive buttons' lights in AOSP android. Also I'd like to know whether it possible to make changes in it's logic. For example: by default in AOSP these lights are turned on every time we touch the screen, and they turn off after some period of untouching the screen. Samsung devices running stock (at least 4.1+) light up these lights only if we touch buttons, but not the screen. I'd like to know if it's possible to make other devices' hardware buttons' lights follow the same logic (light up only when we touch capacitive buttons, but not the screen).

the touch sensitive control lights

Is there a way to set the touch sensitive control button lights to be on all the time?
I think there may be something wrong with my buttons...sometimes they turn off when i'm typing (the button lights turn off and stop vibrating)
Is this normal?
nevermind..figured it out..
settings -> display -> screen timeout -> never
altho the touch sensitive button lights are based on the light around the phone(light up when dark, light off when not-dark) so the screen being on doesn't matter.

AdjBrightness - Turn off capacitive buttons

Thought I'd pass this tip for the 'AdjBrightness' app. It works to turn off the capacitive buttons.
Been doing some night reading on this phone since the screen is so nice.
Screen filter doesn't seem to work for the capacative buttons.

Capacitive Buttons

How to shut off capacitive buttons from lighting up? Did Samsung remove this feature to shut off and change duration?
Yep,,,sadly they seem to have removed this option. Annoying.

Thanks. At least it is something to use at night.
Hi, I have the S6 Edge. The touch key lights are not working at all. In Settings I have the Touch Key Light duration set to "Always On". Power Saving Mode is off, but they still won't come on. The keys do blink briefly during startup, so I do know they physically work. Any ideas? Thanks

Button Lights on CM13

Is it possible anyhow to make the capacitive buttons light up only when I touch them (only the buttons) but not the screen. They light up even when I touch the screen but I want them to light up only when I touch them not the screen.
Have you looked deeply in settings?
Yes...there is only options for the timeout and on and off
