Ok, I suddenly have lost LTE data and cannot make phone calls.
I have pulled the sim card and reinserted but I keep getting a popup window asking me if I want to connect to Global and not CDMA/LTE. I change the request to LTE and make sure setting is there.
It won't connect to 4G. and keeps asking about Global.
I am rooted and ROM'd with unlocked bootloader and have even tried my trusty stock image -- no go!
All of my ROM backups have the same issue and I can't place a call.
:crying:
Yes, my bill is paid and in order.
What can I do? I doubt VZW will help me since it is a Dev Edition and I purchased through Samsung, not them.
APN settings seem to be blacked out so I cant change. It does allow me to delete it.
HELP! I need to place calls.

If it persists across different roms it sounds like either faulty sim or for some reason your modem or kernel is corrupted. I would re flash modem. After that try to re flash kernel. If that fails a new sim might be in order. I presume you have checked with another phone to be sure it's not a VZW problem.

Thanks! I will try the modem route first and then the kernel route.
Although each ROM has a different kernel, so I don't think that is the issue.
Yes, no problem with VZW as the other half's phone is working.
Data works on LTE for Internet but can't place any calls and all received calls do not ring phone: goes into VM.
Edit: at Verizon and not SIM card. New SIM card gives me voice but no data. Says voice roaming.
Ok, here is the problem after 2 new sim cards: Data is showing as "CDMA RX1TT" I cannot get data or voice now. Says voice is roaming with a triangle.
Is this a software setting or hardware setting? Something has changed on my phone, despite changing from stock to ROMS, etc.
VZW store is at a loss and though the rep was good, suggested I call top tier VZW support tomorrow and made notes in my account.
So, any clues as to what could cause this? Is my Dev phone now shot?
If it truly is an APN issue i can post my APN from my Verizon SGS4 and you can use an app called APN backup and restore to push it to your phone or push it manually using root explore and then set permissions. Let me know.

You might have a corrupted EFS partition in which case you would need to restore a good copy of that. Some of the time its in LTE/GSM mode for whatever reason in which case you would need to change it to LTE/CDMA mode.

I had a "DUH" moment when I was in a similar situation. I had forgotten that I had enabled the hidden menu on my DevS4 and changed the "band" preferences to try and force the AWS band. This took the phone off of "automatic band connecting" and I was unable to connect to data. Once I remembered what I had done, I simply when back into the menu and switched from forcing AWS band back to "automatic". Just my 2 cents.

Hello Everyone! Sorry for the delay. Actually, this is what kinda occurred, as the 1/15 build of OctOs ROM which I flashed had an issue and it was posted on Facebook, which I didn't see until Saturday. It changed the CDMA subscription to NV and so even with stock or other ROM backup images, it carried over and didn't re-adjust. I had to reinstall that bad ROM, make some changes per OctOs instructions and BAM: all is well.
As you know on stock rooted, one cannot change certain settings and they were greyed out.
At least I got another backup sim card from VZW should I ever need to activate an older phone.
Thanks for everyone's help!
1. Insert Straight Talk ATT sim
2. Set mobile networks to GSM/UMTS
3. Go to system updates and select update PRL
4. After its updated go back to mobile networks and switch it from global back to GSM/UMTS (it will auto switch when you update prl)
5. Go to roaming in settings and scroll to the bottom and set APN
6. Download Signal Check or Signal Check Pro from the play store to show data signal in the status bar
7. The no sim icon will still be in the status bar but you can remove ot with tweakboxand set carrier text
YOU WILL HAVE TO REPEAT THIS EVERYTIME YOU REBOOT YOUR PHONE SO ITS TEMPORARY UNTIL WE GET FULL UNLOCK
PLEASE SHARE AND GIVE THANKS
(I have only tested this with an ATT ST SIM)
I installed cloudy and used network app from the play store and picked cmda/gsm/lte everything works. I didn't even have to set the apn or mess with the dialer it is all good ?
I registered my phone with Straight Talk a couple days ago and I've been trying to get it to work. I've looked everywhere and Straight Talk has lived up to their reputation of having terrible customer service. Anyway, they've confirmed that my phone is activated, but I can't make a call or anything. I'm thinking it has to do with my settings.
Just to cover all the bases, I tried to activate on the CDMA network via the network access code, but I couldn't register my phone due to no coverage in my area (which I know is not true). So I registered on GSM with the ATT SIM card. My Sprint service no longer works, although I'm showing signal bars in the status bar. Whenever I try to make a call it says "Unable to validate your account. Please contact customer services."
I tried the steps listed in the first post but whenever I switch to GSM/UMTS and try to update the PRL it says "Authentication error. Please try again later."
It's also worth mentioning that my phone is rooted and I have frozen a lot of apps, most of which are listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/sprint-g3-bloatware-list-t2873199
If anybody out there can help I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not sure where else to turn.
You can try my guide it may allow you to fully unlock your settings so you can do what he is saying above.
Here is the thread link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/how-to-gsm-unlock-t2961099
Ok, after much research and many reboots, I've finally got it working. I tried several different methods but the one that finally worked for me was installing the CloudyG3 rom. I'm no expert by any means but my guess is because you have to completely overwrite any evidence of Sprint that is preventing the other carrier's SIM card from working (for me this was ATT through Straight Talk). I had to set my Network mode to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. My data is not quite as fast as I had hoped at 21.06 down 3.72 up but at this point it's better than nothing.
A couple problems I've noticed so far is after cloudy finished installing and my Lookout was running it's first test it flagged QuickApps and LGBackup as malicious apps. I didn't uninstall them yet because they seem harmless but I did freeze them with Rom Toolbox just in case. Can anybody confirm that they're safe or that uninstalling them won't cause any bugs? Also my messaging app no longer works which is a little disappointing as I really enjoyed it for a stock messaging app. Anybody know why this is?

Your 4G is also working in gsm sim?
OK, I cannot find this information anywhere so maybe someone here can help me.
My wife bought a Galaxy S5 and we had quickly paid it off. Because we only get 2G where we live , we decided to switch to Straight Talk.
After a week of Straight Talk not working correctly (we would have Full LTE service but could not make or recieve calls) we then ported to Cricket AIO.
We are having the same issue and don't know where to start. I wiped out the factory image and installed a debloated Rom thinking removing some
T-Mo junk would help but it doesn't. Everything is correct, APN settings and all. Can somebody shed some light and let me know what to try next?
Thanks
Try *#2263# from the dialer and select GSM networks instead of automatic.
Let us know how it goes.
I am currently using a t-mobile galaxy s5 on cricket without any problems.
Using the stock rom (rooted) I have a cricket SIM card in the device. I booted up the device, went to settings, then more networks, then mobile networks, then default setup and chose automatical. Then, I chose the automatic network option. You could always use the search now option and manually select AT&T.
Next I added the APN. The cricket website has them available so you can manually add them, but I actually had a little icon pop up that let me install them automatically.
Either way, correct APN is essential for texts and LTE.
I then downloaded titanium backup and manually removed t-mobile bloatware. I then downloaded the cricket apps that were recommended (cricket sent a text with the apps when I inserted the cricket SIM)
Finally, I edited the build.prop to say the device is a cricket galaxy s5. I think I changed it to model klteaio.
Other than the boot animation (which I could change if desired) this device is now identical to my Cricket galaxy S5 that I also own. It even says cricket on the top bar like the Cricket branded device. As a matter of fact, the back cover and the startup animation are the only way I can tell the difference between the two.

You may want to consider using an app called LTE discovery from the app store to ensure you have lte as an option. I have found that selecting the WCDMA/GSM option instead of the default LTE/WCDMA/GSM under settings-> MOBILE NETWORKS -> NETWORK MODE sometimes provides better service on cricket when the LTE signal is poor. This will turn off LTE, but leave 3G, 2G, talk services enabled.
Good luck.
Zero Lemon was the issue.
After a bunch of testing, I figured out that the zerolemon 8,500mah battery seemed to cause the issue. When we put the original battery back in, calls worked just fine. I tried again with the zerolemon and calls failed.
Thanks for reporting back. I wonder if your extended battery pushes too much load on your device.
If you happen to pop-in the lemon again, put this code in your dialer and let us know what Voltage reads your getting.
Also mention the battery's charge level at the time.

Hey everyone. I just bought an unlocked, unused (new) galaxy s4 I545 (Verizon) and it wont send out text msgs with my T-mobile sim card. I do receive (inbound) text; but no outbound text msgs. Calls and web surfing work fine.
I'm aware that this is very common problem when trying to go from Verizon to Tmobile with galaxy S4 phones, but i have not been able to find a straightforward solution to this exact issue. Has anyone been able to solve this? I did find this one thread that addressed this problem, but it's quite confusing --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/help/noob-s-stuck-oc1-lollipop-t3116732

I have the same issue. Tried every thing that was suggested by T-Mobile and they say that the phone is broken. However, when I put a Verizon SIM card in it, it works fine.

I tried changing all the APN settings. These are the same ones T-mobile had me switch. There is another post where the user discovered his SMS/MMS works when on 3g, but not 4g. The workaround was to Root and then change a setting to use only 3G. My problem is that I cannot get Kingroot or any other app to root my phone. They all fail.

What build are you running?
F1
I was able to root my I545 yesterday after months in limbo........ I used Kingroot (not Kingoroot). I tried it 7 times from the phone, and it failed.... then as recommended by many users, I scrolled to the bottom of the kingroot page on phone (after root failed). It said I should use the desktop to root it. Soooooo I set Google translate to "English" and loaded KR (Kingroot) on my desktop.... It WOULD NOT open Kingroot. So (on my desktop) I opened KR WITHOUT english translation. and it was running (on my desktop). Once it was opened, everything was in Chinese (of course). BUT.... it has screenshots that walk you through it (although in Chinese). I attempted to root the phone (by using screenshots only, since I do not know Chinese), and it rooted it first time My advice, use Kingroot as described using your DESKTOP computer and cable. That should do it
NOW my problem, is I have to flash my VZW S4 (OC1 lollipop), to a t-mobile rom...... so I can have wifi calling with my dedicated number Of topic:..... if anyone can do some Q&A with me on that topic I would be appreciate it GREATLY.
Hope that helps ya
---------- Post added at 08:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:09 AM ----------
BTW.... I have the same issue with my text messages (no outbound sms) when I am on 4G. There is a write up on the forums on how to possibly remedy that, but I get hit with.... "MD5 has to many hashes" and I cant go any further... Im still trying to figure out what the hell MD5 is.
ATTENTION to MODS, and OP's:
I am seeing more and more people (like me) whom are coming to XDA because they have a Verizon S4 (whether its kit kat, or Lollipop), and they are using a T mobile sim. I have made an assimilation though.... These people that are coming to XDA have little, to NO root, rom, kernel, experience what so ever (just like me as well). IWe are looking for a fix (I myself want to flash my phone to a T-mobile rom, activate wifi calling, and be able to send/recieve sms continually). Is there anything that anyone could write to address JUST 2 things......... (1 how to get a Verizon S4 with kit kat, and with lollipop to have a t-mobile rom, 2) If somone elects to leave the phone a Verizon phone, a step by step (tailored for noobs like me and many many others) process for fixing the sms issues from having a T-mobile sim... The write up for the second request thats out there is okay, BUT the common problem is a "MD5" issue when you try to download hiddenmenu.apk. Without being able to download the "hiddenmenu" to our phone, we can't even get to step 2 of the "fixing sms issues"...
Please OP's, and mods........ remember in this tense world we live in, remember one thing......... "NOOB LIVES MATTER!"...... C'mon noobs, say it with me! :good:
I don't think the ROM matters. As long as it's a Verizon variant of the phone you won't be able to flash T-Mobile ROM's. This issue is most likely an APN setting issue. Did you ever try flashing the stock OC1 build for the VZW GS4?
I have the OTA lollipop update.... it came in two parts. The apn settings are set per tmobile . I can send sms however only when it switches to 3g. The problem is, on lollipop, you cant toggle between 4g and 3g like kit kat would allow. So its hit and miss (much more miss than hit...lol). From the sounds of it, the radio mhz are different between vzw and tmobile regarding 4g. The other dilemma i have is that i live in the mountains of oregon so i am 3 miles outside the network.... therefore i need wifi calling. I have a google voice number, but i need my assigned phone number for work purposes.
If what you say is true regarding a rom specific for vzw, i guess i need a vzw based custom rom, that will allow me wifi calling, and also fix my sms 4g issue...
---------- Post added at 05:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:13 PM ----------
Speaking of the 3g and 4g thing...... since i have rooted my phone (via kingroot), and installed supersu, am i able to turn off 4g? And if so, how do i do that?
No, you need a T-Mobile ROM that has wifi calling enabled. But like I said this is probably more an APN setting issue than any.
Here
This ^^^ is a link to the manual if you think you can find something useful in there. I've used like 20 apps that all claim they can Toggle LTE data but I've yet to find one the doesn't just bring me right back to the settings of the phone. I've heard rumors about an app that's $1 on the play store that can do it for the GS4 but I can't confirm that. It seems as though you need some special settings provided by the service provider in the ROM that allows for such changes. I might recommend looking into whether you can flash a T-Mobile ROM to the VZW variant.
http://images10.newegg.com/UploadFi...052213_F4_Rev_FINAL_Rev1_Web1403840347272.pdf
Thanks for the link for the manual. I just checked the APN settings, and they are where they need to be. There are only two different settings/entries that i have found for mmsc, and both leave me with this problem. I have researched, and can find a fix for it if i had jelly bean, or kit kat..... but i have lollipop
I am searching to see if this vzw phone will take a tmobile rom (or a variant). If it will, than i might be in business. Does anybody know if i can roll this back to kit kat, or jellybean since i am now rooted?
Unfortunately once the GS4 is on the 5.0 build the phone's bootloader does not support downgrading-I've tried. I, like you, have a the lollipop build (OC1) on my S4 and I really wish I had not taking that update. Lost story short it was an accident I shan't repeat.
finally got it working
I also ran into a wall after taking my wife s4 i545 from Verizon to T mobile. I finally got everything working. the phone is on OF1 so there's a lot of things you need to do they are all here but scattered and very hard to find. you need to root with wondershare mobilego. then you have to odin flash an OC1 kernel then change the settings to the T mobile settings then get this app called Advance signal status and change the defaul text message number from the verizon to the t mobile number and the mobile networks there too(you want GSM auto). after all that you'll be on 3g or H+ for your data but its not too bad and everything else works great including text. total time about 1 hour but just putting things together is where your time goes. hope it helps
Note if your T-Mobile SIM used to be in an iPhone
I was having crazy trouble getting my SMS and MMS working with a stock Verizon Samsung S4 (SICH-545) ROM. I believe most of the problems I had were due to the fact that I was previously using an iPhone4 as my T-Mobile device. After searching through the internet and finding the proper settings for T-Mobile APN, I was able to quickly get phone calls and 4G data working. However, there were some things that took a while to get working. Initially, I could receive SMS, but not send SMS, nor send/receive MMS. It's now working and here's what needed to be done:
Remove the phone from iMessage (allowed sending of SMS)
Remove the phone from iCloud (allowed sending/receipt of MMS)
Lastly, to ensure you get Voicemail access, change the Voicemail number in your Settings. To get directly to VoiceMail with T-Mobile, dial '123'. There's a different number for accessing from a different phone, but this works directly from your T-Mo phone.
I did not get a chance to read all of the responses on this thread, however, I can probably help resolve if the answer is not already embedded in this thread.
I have successfully rooted a Verizon SCH-I545 with stock Verizon ROM and got SMS/MMS to work. Unfortunately, I have only been successful through locking out LTE. If you want more detail please IM me. Otherwise, here is a quick overview:
1. Root SCH-I545 (There are a handful of methods but Wondershare MobileGO seems to do it for me.)
2. Update APN’s to T-Mobile (fast.tmobile.com)
3. Download Advanced Signal Status. Change Data Signal to lock GSM/CDMA (PRL)
4. Reboot and Enjoy
Worked on several handsets I have flashed.
NOTE: A simpler method would be to flash ALBE95_S6 using Flash Fire then there is no need to deal with locking your data signal through Advanced Signal Status, just use the default Network Settings within the ROM.
Hope this helps.
That doesn't work for me. I can't access Additional Info, AND even when I could, DATA would disconnect... so I'd have calls and texts.. but no data.

I did the same, flashfire albe s6, rooted, busybox, apn change, advanced settings gsm/umts, lost wifi too, but....
I was able to fix it. There is a wifi fix in one of the earlier posts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/gogolies-wifi-fixes-t3099951 forgot which one I used. but it all works now (on tmobile that is)
Oh, in case you went and downloaded the latest ota from verizon (f*** you very much), like I did, lol, there's a wifi fix for the OC1 bootloader too, for us flashfire people: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952597069
here's the directions, nice and slow
root the phone, I used kingroot, then converted to supersu, then install busybox
then install safestrap, if you can (your bootloader is older than and not including OC1) or (if you went OC1 or newer), then install flashfire, like I did. Only thing is, if you muff something up and only have flashfire and not "real" recovery, other than the stock one, it gets kinda stick fixing it, (you have to odin in the verizon stock full image of OC1 and start over, I think, I forgot).
then I installed albes s6 rom, I think its in the unified or maybe att s4 section. its easy to find. Its prerooted, so I just updated busybox and then re-installed flashfire. when you install albes make sure you do a full wipe and flash the oc1 bootloader after the albe rom, in flashfire, that's the only way it'll boot.
ok, so you got albes, now you need to change the apn. I use idoneapp gt 3.8. The guy doesnt give it away for free anymore, and I don't blame him, I was just lucky enough to grab 3.5 (which you need to install 3.8) and 3.8 before he decided to charge for it. Its for the sprint s4, but it allows you to do alot of stuff, even on the verizon variety (lol). You can change the apn, allow wifi tethering, get into the advanced menu to change the radios (gsm, cdma, wcdma, lte, etc) (or you can dial *#*#4636#*#* - sometimes doesnt work though. There are other apps on the playstore to change the apn too, so change it after you do all that other stuff. make sure you have the mmsc and everything else correct for tmobile. I have mine set on lte, gsm, cdma, which seems to work for everything, voice, data, mms. Anyway, good luck and have fun! If it doesn't work, oh well, I bought mine for $13. I also have 3 other s4s, a sprint l720t, the cricket one, and the 970 us cellular. I cant get the cricket or the us cellular to take the tmobile sim, even though I flashed the radios to gsm and the roms to tmobile (pain in the a**), but I think those, although they do have the radios, don't have something else hardware wise to allow gsm, since they are both exclusively cdma. I found the sprint one, paid $10 for the cricket, and $22 for the us cellular (it was brand new though). I get lucky on ebay, people think their phones don't work and they do. I've take all of them apart many times, and most times they just need the usb,mic ribbon cable, which I can get on ebay for $1.89 (there's 2 versions though). Late
I recently purchased a refurbished phone Samsung Galaxy S21 5G. I just got it yesterday, and found that I am not able to use my mobile network. The sale said it is factory unlocked, and according to the descriptions, it should work just fine with my US Mobile SuperLTE network as well. When I switched on the phone, I see Verizon on the screen and so, I assume that it was locked to Verizon in the past.
When I tried to change the network settings, specifically the APN settings, I get the message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user." The three dots on the top with reset to default is also greyed out along with Network mode in the previous page. When I click Network Operators and try to connect to the network manually, I am only able to connect to Verizon Wireless and no other. But, calling and messaging seems to work fine. Is it that the unlock process has not been completed properly? Did any of you face the same problem before? It would be great if there is something that I could do to unblock the APN settings as the rest of the phone works really well. The specific model is SM-G991U.
Thanks!

So, you need to go into the settings menu and find about phone, software info. What you want to find is the CSC information.
It will basically look something like this: XAA / XAA-XAA / XAA (or some other letters like VZW or ATT or TMB etc etc.
What taht will tell you is very helpful in determining what rom the phone is running and what kind of device it was originally. Find that in your device and post it and people will help you to figure out what it means.

So the csc info is complicated, I'm no expert on it. But it does look like the OYN indicates it's a multi csc rom. It does have XAA as a part of the code, and that indicates it's 'open' for that specific part. But all the others are VZW. So it's running a vzw rom, obviously.
Your sim US Mobile uses both verizon and t-mobile networks. So it working for calls and texts makes sense, as a vzw phone. You could use patched Odin and flash a different (open) rom, but first you should verify that the device really is unlocked from vzw.
Best way to do that would probably be to insert another carriers sim card and see if it can make calls / texts. If not, it's not unlocked. But are you saying everything works now except mobile data? IOW, no internet access?
I had an international sim card at hand and I put it in. Interestingly the APN settings are no longer blocked. But, I do get a notification from setup wizard saying the inserted sim is not from Verizon and some services may not be available. But, messaging still seemed to work and I was also receiving 4G.

Oh then yer okay. That message from verizon can be gotten rid of a couple of ways; 1) use adb commands to disable the specific packages 2) use patched Odin and flash a different rom
VZW is the only rom I think that does that, and it's very annoying. I don't remember exactly which packages have to be disabled, but search google and use xda and vzw in keywords and u should find it.
The 2nd option would be my choice. It would do away with vzw crap and with an open rom you may find volte and vowifi will work also.
cheers
Thank you so much for your reply. That sounds great! To just give it a try, I tried putting in a TMobile sim and phone restarted to install software for TMobile. After that the APN settings were unlocked and now I am also able to connect to the internet using my US Moblile sim. The only problem is the the network mode is greyed out.
This rom I think only recognizes network from major telecom providers. So, just flashing with an unlocked rom would just help to unlock all the features and also remove telecom specific crap. I will try to flash it today.
Thank you again!
I also just flashed the stock firmware which is fully unlocked. And there is no bloatware from telecom OEM's. I am now able to use the network and set the APN's, but the Network Mode is still greyed out. Is it possible to know why? I am guessing that if the phone is fully unlocked, I should be able to change the Network Mode. Is there any other info that I can give you to help understand what is happening? I do not see vowifi as well.
