Hello,
I have a very big problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300.
The problem started when my battery ran down very very fast. I can use my phone for no longer than maybe 6 hours, and that is in stand by. If I want to charge my phone till it's completely full it might take two days on the charger as well, even when my phone is off. I tried to reset my phone to factory defaults, but that didn't fix the problem. I even bought a new battery, hoping that would solve the problem, but even no luck with that. The phone also becomes hot in the bottom. Now I wanted to bring it back to the store for warrenty but there lies the next problem, my phone is rooted.
I know it is possible to unroot the phone, and it's nog too hard to do. But every time I connect my phone with USB to my computer, my computer doesn't recognize it. I get the next error message "USB device not recognized". I tried different cables, I tried on an other computer, but still I get the same error. I also tried the S3 of a friend on my computer and with his phone I do get a connection. So I know there is nothing wrong with the drivers on my computer or something like that. There must be something wrong with my phone.
Now the problems won't stop here because there is even a third problem. Like I said before I have rooted my phone, but I can't use SuperUser. When I start SuperUser it says "The SU Binary needs to be updated. Continue?". Then when I press continue I get the message "Installation failed !". I can't use CWM as well. I wanted to use Triangle Away before bringing it back for warrenty, but I can't use it because I can't use SuperUser.
If some one would have an idea to unroot my phone without using USB so I can bring it in for warrenty. Or find a way to get my USB port running again, I think that would fix my problems.
I spend a few hours trying to fix these problems, but now I've come to a point I don't know what to do anymore, I hope anyone of you is willing to help me. I'll be for ever gratefull.
Grtz Nathan...
Hi.
If i was you, i would try to install a official version, using Odin.
Also, my advice is not to use the original charger, Even chinese have better one´s...
Did you install Kies and drivers on your PC? Check that too.
Consider install leaked 4.2.2 version of Rom, since it uses Odin to do it.
I hope i gave at least some clues....

Thanks for your reply,
I forgot to mention that I have the official ROM installed, I only rooted it. But even if I would want to install a new ROM, my computer doesn't recognize my phone throug USB. So I can't install a ROM using Odin unless my USB port is running again.
I tried several chargers already, I don't think the problem lies in the charger because the battery drains very fast when it's of the charger.
I did install Kies and drivers, I even uninstalled them and reinstalled them again a couple of times. I even tried it on different computers. And the Galaxy S3 of a friend of mine does make a connection. So I don't think the problem lies there.

Hummm....
Did you try hard reset? Definitely without USB recognition, you can`t go to next stage....
In setup did you check optinos like USB debugging?
At this moment im out of options....maybe a poweruser can help you better:highfive:

What exactly do you mean with hard reset? If you mean powering on with home button and volume up button pushed, and then select "wipe data/factory reset". Then yes, I tried that.
In setup I did check USB debugging. The thing is, when I power on with home button and volume down button, I enter download mode. But even in download mode my computer does not recognize my phone. I'm not sure, but I think the computer should.
I'm really stuck here :crying:

I have a galaxy S2 which I've updated via XDA to 2.3.6, everything was working fine until a few days ago, I plugged the phone into my PC and I was given "One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned et etc" and then "Device Drive not installed correctly" something along those lines.
I've tried it on other machines and the same thing happens, I can't access the storage nor detect it in odin or keis.
Any suggestions or help would be hugely appreciated.
Bump for bumpsake
Try the first part of this thread (The bit about uninstalling/reinstaling Kies/drivers).
Can you let me know what happens? I had exactly the same issue but its in warranty repair, I would like to try to fix it when it comes back, Im assuming it wont be fixed under warranty
No Nandroid backup ???
jje
No backup, I backup files and wipe generally, but the phone can't sync with the PC so I can't reinstall a different stock firmware.
I'd pay good money if someone could fix this or had an idea how to fix it?
First step would be back up data and factory reset .

See my thread here.
If the modem/pda fix doesn't work, try another USB cable - you might be pleasantly surprised.
I know I was...
Excellent advice. And also along this line of thinking, another PC/OS might be worth a shot as well if nothing else works.

Tried the dialpad PDA/Modem hack? From my googling last week, it doesn't seem to have worked for the majority.
Ive now tried a new cable, Ive tried restarting the phone when its plugged into the pc but when its powered off and charging it will not turn on no matter what I do.
I have tried uninstalling kies and restarting then letting windows install a driver but it installs the old driver I believe.
This all started with 2.3.6 and as far as I can tell, I must have installed the wrong version for my region or something and its affected the way it shows up.
i had exactly the same problem from an hour to another i was really pissed off,
i had a nandroid backup but that doesnt helped much.
the thing is i reinstalled my computer clean install without any software only kies, cleaned the usb port of the cellphone and by doing that i got my cellphone recognized at odin sometimes, when i got recognized i pray it doesnt disconnect and flash full XXKI3 with pit file and problem solved, don't know why this happened but i was going crazy haha
a tip that helped me with odin. get to device manager with the phone plugged in and disable unknown device ( the one that cellphone is) then if you reconnect your cellphone twice for me it's work on odin!
the main problem for me was the unknown device you had and that it reconnect constanly, also you have to know the solution for me was xxkp8 with pit that solved my problem then went to xxki3 and is was solve already but i think xxki3 willl be the same for you, i whink the clean install with pit is the solution, maybe someone can correct me, this worked for me (i thought it was the usb port and my guarantee is under USA and i'm from argentina so i was getting crazy, i tried all and this helped (also with this problem couldnt go back to stock firmware :S)
good luck i hope this help you
PS: i tried all sollutions they said to you here and nor one helped! and searched the hole forum and nothing helped me!
PS2: i thing it can be related to something broked on the cellphone software, cause my region last firmware was 2.3.4 i was using simple and clean rom 2.3.6 not for my region without a problem and suddenly this happened now i'm again on S&C cause it fits for my usage and no problem at all!, something messed up the cellphone maybe a buggy flash of siyah kernel by the time it happened to me i was testing siyah 2.6.3 i think and it was really buggy for some people
Hey fdbailes,
That pretty much sounds like what is going on with me, I've tried what you suggested but sometimes when I plug it in, it doesn't even detect a device, the PC makes the noise but nothing happens.
It's really very disapointing, I am a carer for a disabled person so I have no money to buy a new phone and I really really want ICS on my galaxy.
Thanks for the help, Ill keep trying, what version of Odin were you using?
Did you use the stock Samsung Cable?
I cant think of anything else except
Does anyone know if its possible to install a new kernel from the SD somehow?

Mobile Odin, if you're rooted.
I am not, I'm on 2.3.6, please tell me theres a quick and dirty mobile root? lol
I'd settle for hugely complicated and filthy....
Edit: Would is it possible/would it be possible, to update firmware or root over wifi or bluetooth?
I was thinking that you could install the cwm manager apk, but I'm not sure if you have to be rooted to install it... Brain not working well today, anyone else can confirm/deny?
You can but try anyway. Download Superuser and Nitrality from the market, use Nitrality to install the apk, see what happens.
View attachment CWMManager.apk
Blast, CWM wont run unless I have root access.
Also, Nitrality keeps crashing at launch
Did you ever find a solution for this?? I just got a new tmobile sg2 but my laptop is doing the same thing?? I really wanna root it already
Hi Everyone, Really need help here
I (drunkenly) messed around with CWM on my phone and formatted a few partitions that I shouldn't have. Result - brick!
Had a JTAG done and it was revived and placed back onto Stock 2.3.3
Got my phone home and went to flash Litening ROM 6.1 onto it to regain root access... ODIN got about 2/3 through and failed.
Now I've got a phone that my computer's won't recognise. Windows is saying that the USB device has malfunctioned. Is there any way I can fix this without having to shell out for another JTAG repair?
When I turn on the phone I get that A....!....A looking symbol on my screen. Recovery mode does the same thing.
I can get to Download mode, but again my PC can't recognise it.
Any ideas?
try reinstalling the drivers.. That may work..

Yes, you can uninstall kies and install it again. It worked for some users.. Make sure kies is off when flashing a new firmware..

Odin the god of flashing is being a pain in my ass!
All I want is for my GS2 to be rooted and working - I still don't get how it's failed
Kies is still uninstalling...
do you have a usb jig? that normally forces it into download mode.. dirt cheap from ebay......... have a search

I can get to Download mode. Or am I missing something?
As far as I'm aware, the JIG will reset my binary counter and take me to DL mode - isn't that what Vol Down + Power + Home does?
with a JIG would my phone be more likely recognised by my PC's?
Thanks for all the reply's too by the way guys!
Okay, so I removed and reinstalled Kies - No luck
Download Mode is still showing Current Binary as Samsung Official though, so at least I can have it warranty repaired if need be.
I'm just finding it really hard to believe that it's bricked again, I've flashed heaps of ROM's to this phone without any issues. I just don't see how I could have two problems so close together.
Any other ideas?
You may find an answer within this thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382838
I had an i9000 jtaged a while back and what i noticed was that when it came back from the shop it didnt have recovery mode at all. What I had to do was flash a couple of stock ROMs to get stock recovery back so I could Root it again. It took several atempts and fails too.Not having any type of recovery at the time of a flash might be what has caused the problem.Quite possible that if thats the case you will need another jtag
One thing you could try thats worked for me in the past is boot to download, plug in your phone and open Odin last.Sometimes its works.

Thanks, gave that a go and it didn't work. Tried it about 5-6 times
Is there a specific driver that can be used to allow Odin to see my phone? I've tried all that Kies has to offer and it's still coming up as unrecognisable - Windows is seeing a USB Mass Storage controller and a Bluetooth Peripheral Device, but it's unable to locate or install any drivers since the failed Flash.
I also tried the other linked thread. This didn't work either
I only spent $180 on a JTAG repair yesterday - Should've just bought my own RIFF box so that I could do it myself.

If you have access to a window xp computer give it a try, I had this issue with my captivate and my windows 7 machine wouldn't work but my old xp computer did.
An obvious and well known issue... Did you end process tree of both Kies processes in your PC's task manager?
Sorry if you have, it is all I can think of at the moment.
Sounds like it's time for you to give up flashing ROM's. Clearly someone up there doesn't like it. If your computer doesn't recognise it at all then its a faulty USB cable. So maybe that get that replaced before you demand Samsung fix your mistakes again.

Hi,
I'm using more than one cable. They seemed to both work fine too until the failed flash.
I didn't get Samsung to fix it, I took it to a mobile repair shop, I didn't demand anyone do anything either - I paid royally to have it fixed and would prefer to fix it myself than be charged again.
@jhernand1102 - I'll give this a shot now, fingers crossed!
Ok ,so heres my problem:
My S3 (i9300) wont connect to my computer which is running windows 7. I plug it in, and there is no sound for a device connected, no confirmation, and all the gs3 does is charge. it doesnt even show the little usb symbol at the top on the status bar. i've also tried two different cables, two computers, and ive cleaned the usb port on the phone.
This is all pretty recent as well. it used to connect fine on stock and the same on cm9, but one day when i plugged it in, it said unrecognized device, and from then on, the computer doesnt even know its connected anymore. i restored back to my original stock backup that had worked fine before, but still no progress. Kies has been uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and so have the drivers for samsung phones..
Download, extract and install, then try again

going to be a driver issue if it charges, install KIES first as that provides the necessary samsung drivers too. If this doesnt work then uninstall the USB controller you phone is connected to, unplug the phone and reboot. Leave the phone out and install KIES again. The try again.
Could be your cable too though, have you swap tested anything yet, does a different cable work or does the cable work ok in another PC?

I'm reinstalling KIES right now and ill try it with two different usb cables. If neither work, then ill try uninstalling the usb controller as you said and then go through the process once more. ill get back to you on it all when I'm done.
I have a few no-brand, cheap microUSB cables that allow only for charging the phones: they don't let me get a data connection between the phone (or whatever) and the PC.
Other USB cables work ok, so I know the problem is not with the phone.
You don't need (and shouldn't) install KIES only because of the drivers.
The only drivers you should install from the only trusted source are these:
http://developer.samsung.com/android/tools-sdks/Samsung-Andorid-USB-Driver-for-Windows
I had the same problem.
I tried EVERYTHING. I did tons of research and tried them all, nothing worked.
I fixed my problem by sending my phone in and getting it fixed. I think they replaced the hardware.
Your phone is likely having a hardware issue, get it sent in, this is the only way.

The only problems with that are: 1) My phone is rooted and 2) That might take a while... what im bascially trying to do now is get it to work with my pc so that i have the possibility of unrooting and putting my music on it directly through the cable, rather than removing my microsd and having to put that into an sd adapter.
I'm having the same issue with my AT&T version. I have CM10 installed. I flash back to stock via Odin and I can get it to work, but as soon as I flash back to CM10 after rooting it won't connect.

No I am flashing to a stock rooted touchwiz and I can connect to my phone when its done. When it reboots it goes into a loop so I have to reboot it and wipe data/factory reset, then reboot. When it comes back on it still won't connect, so then I reflash stock root again using Odin and it comes back with USB connection working. I think some files are getting corrupt on the phone when flashing to CM10.
I had the same problem before, I used a different charger and it worked.. idk what it was
Well right now I am on Stock TW that is rooted and I can get into my phone via Windows Explorer. But if I was to put Clock work Mod back on it seems to not want to connect anymore. So it seems CWM is doing something weird.
I'm gonna install TWRP instead of CWM and see if that makes a difference.

I think that this could be what's happening. When I restore to my rooted touchwiz, all I do is restore and that's it. Could you explain exactly what you do to get it working again? I'm a bit of a noob so I just need it explained a little simpler.

Look for the rooted image for your phone for stock. Put your phone in download mode and use Odin to reflash it back to stock not a restore. Use this site for help: http://galaxys3root.com/category/galaxy-s3-unroot/
Its worked for me every time. You may have to flash it twice with Odin to get it to work, that's what I usually have to do.

My issue ended up being an app I had installed, Triangle Away. I uninstalled and rebooted and had my USB connection back.
Well, so far, all I've gotten it a "usb cable connected" notification when trying yet another cable. Although i got this notfication, i still couldnt see any of the files on it from my pc, so it basically wasn't really connected. Im not sure what to do from here.
My ultimate goal would be to be able to unroot it so that if i needed to send it in or whatever, then i could without worry. As a side question, is there anyway to unroot it without a pc?
Hello all, I have a GS3 international GT-I9300
I'll try to go through the story as fast as I can and give as much detail so you guys can understand how I got here.
Bought the phone unlocked, I was stock, I rooted and then I decided to install a new ROM. I went with Resurrection Remix, it was working great. I did this on a desktop back home. They released a new update to RR so I did a OTA update with "Update Me" apparently the thing flashed but it didn't, the phone still worked but NFC wasn't working as well as having lost root access and some other stuff wasn't working correctly, but I lived with it.
I moved to Florida (home is in NY) and I have a laptop with me, for some reason my laptop used to be able to transfer files to my S3, but it wasn't doing it any more after a while. So it would just charge it. I was in a hotel room last week trying to tether via USB but the PC wasnt having it, it could not locate the phone. This week I moved to a different hotel with internet and decided I would flash stock on my S3 to get rid of all these bugs and get root again, I tried flashing stock through recovery and it wasn't going, so I tried flashing RR again (this time downloaded from the site RR site) and it worked. Still no USB connection but I had root back. I looked around my PC and apparently the Samsung drives are not installing or something on my PC. I installed Kies, but nothing, I tried a stand alone driver install and nothing, so I just gave up and bought Mobile Odin pro from Gplay to try to flash again.
Mobile Odin for some reason (I blame it on myself) wasn't finding/flashing stock so again I decided to try and flash RR and see what would happen. It flashed RR and turned on fine. Then I just decided to look for an NFC fix on XDA. Once I found my NFC fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32029713&postcount=8367) I decided to just copy the files to the system folder, NFC still not working, rebooted and NFC still no working, so I figured I would try to flash the fix through mobile odin seeing as how I can't get my PC to pick up on the USB. I tried flashing but MO just kept bouncing it back and re-booting into RR. Tried again and no flash. So I decided to again try and flash stock. I tried going into Recovery, the phone shut off like it always does, came back on but stayed in the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 logo and would not move. I shut it off again, tried turning it on again and still stuck on the galaxy logo. Now, if I leave the phone off and plug in the USB, it won't show the battery charging image, it will actually turn straight onto the galaxy logo again and stay there. I can get the phone into download mode, but like I said my pc won't recognize the drivers.
Now, here are my questions:
What happened?
Can this be fixed?
Am I an idiot?
If I can get the drivers installed on another PC as well as Odin (1.85), will the new PC "see" the S3 or are the drivers on the phone deleted as well? (if that sort of thing can happen, idk.)
I'm going to see if I can borrow a buddy's PC and download the drivers as well as odin to try and bring my S3 back to life, I just want to know, what happens if I can't get the other PC to pick it up ether because the drivers on the phone are deleted (if that's a thing) or what I can expect if it is connected.
What are the steps or guides to follow here? I just got it into Download mode and it says on the top of the screen:
ODIN MODE
Product name: GT-I9300
Custom Binary Download: Yes (2 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
sorry , i am sometime getting headache reading long english text so i just briefly look over.
your PC doesn't recognize your S3 ? is that correct ? hmmm , is it possible that your PC (Microsoft Windows I assume?) system is damaged due to something like virus or some reasons ? i have encountered that kinda problem before and be OK after i reinstalled the system.
If it's a soft brick, then it can defiantly be fixed. You might, however, lose your data along the process.
Be glad it's not hard bricked
It happened to me many times, USB error "unknown device" connected. Only fix for it was reinstalling Windows so better if you can use different PC or laptop. Install Kies and other USB drivers. Restart computer, download and run Odin v 3.0x. Flash your phone.
If this doesn't work then maybe your phone have a problem with USB port?

Hey all. I own a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T) and my laptop will not detect it. Other computers will not detect it either. It's rooted, no custom ROM, on stock 6.0.1.
I use the stock cable, which charges it just fine. When plugged into my laptop, it does not detect it at all. No media device, nothing. All it does is charge it. I tried multiple Micro-USB cables, but to no avail. I can't imagine the port is damaged if it's charging perfectly fine.
I want to go back to stock, or get a custom ROM or something, just do something different. But I've hit a roadblock. No matter what I try, it will not be detected. I don't even want to risk doing anything until my computer detects it.
If anyone can help, please do. It's a serious issue. I've tried reinstalling drivers, using Kies, checking Device Manager to see if it even pops up as anything at all, etc. I'm really at the end of the road here and am worried I might need a new phone.
do you have the Original Samsung Cable, You can restore roms using the custom rom download mode of the phone

Hey all. I own a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T) and my laptop will not detect it. Other computers will not detect it either. It's rooted, no custom ROM, on stock 6.0.1.

Download and install Kies. This will also install the drivers that your PC needs to talk to the phone.

The same drivers are needed for ODIN if you ever want to flash a new ROM, recovery, etc.

I said in my post.... I already tried using Kies. Uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times. It doesn't work.

You didn't say if the laptop or any computer had ever seen it before. Is this a new condition? Or, a new phone?
