I already posted this on the Rootbox rom thread, but I know not everyone reads the whole thread so it might save a bunch of people from asking the same question on different threads over and over again. I have tried out a few 4.2.2 roms and they would always reboot randomly, I used the 4Aces kernel and the Uber kernel and got the same results, constant random reboots. I fixed the problem by turning off CPU profiles. I use SETCPU to overclock, but I assume this is a kernel problem that would happen no matter which app you use to overclock. Hope this helps others!
Just to clarify, I'm still overclocking my device I've just turned off the CPU profiles.
Thanks a lot Porkenhimer, Will try this fix asap.

Soo, yeah, OP, what exactly are "CPU Profiles". Is this some app? Or is it the setting like in SetCPU that lets you change profiles around in sleep, wake etc?
I don't see it on SetCPU.. Under the Profiles tab, the "Enable Profiles" is not checked. Never has been . I still get the occasional reboot but its somewhat rare at this point. Nothing to concern myself with

Did an experiment yesterday and today, I ran 5 random 4.2.2 ROMs each for two hours, 1 hour with no CPU profiles setup and 1 hour with CPU profiles setup and enabled. I used the 4Aces kernel for each test. I also used a different profile setup for each ROM. I did a full wipe before installing each ROM. The ROMs I used were PAC-Man, Alliance, Rootbox, ReVolt & Jellybeer. I did not install any apps except for SETCPU. I had a total of one reboot with CPU profiles turned off, which was with the PAC-Man rom, and the least amount of reboot I had was with Rootbox, which was 3 reboots in one hour with CPU profiles enabled. Its pretty clear to me that enabling CPU profiles at least with the 4Aces kernel, will cause reboots. I had used both both the 4Aces and Uber kernals before doing this test and got reboots on every 4.2.2 rom I tried so I'm guessing if I did the same exact test with the Uber kernel I would get the same results. I'm not saying that other things are not also causing reboots, but its clear to me that something bad is happening when CPU profiles are enabled.

Yes its the tab that says profiles in SETCPU.
Well you must have had a borinnnnng day haha. ... And your eyes must hurt for waiting on reboot.... I run 4/20 rootbox with profiles set for screen on 192/1242 WHEATLEY and screen off 192/972 powersave...4aces kernel. Only had one reboot and it was my daily driver for over a month. ...also the new base changes and merges may be messing with profiles set for set cpu in the newer 4.2.2 builds of roms and kernels. Cool to see someone giving that much time in a day to watch for reboots. Keep visine handy ...hope you figure out more

And actually run a logcat of it re booting with profiles and we will have some answers to what is causing the issue

Or you could use System Tuner
SetCPU is the general go-to app for its straightforward appearance. The voltage tab sometimes does not appear even for a custom kernel with voltage tables; compatibility issues the app maker needs to correct.
Try System Tuner for an interface with a lot of other useful options and info with graphics.
Incredicontrol offers an interface similar in layout to SetCPU, and can toggle the Force Fast/AC Charge option for kernels with that have it. However, its voltage tables have had gray text on a white background for some users lately, making it a minor nuisance to read. Got the problem on my setup.

Personally do -75mV across the board typically, pushing -82.5mV testing. -50mV should be reasonable for less accomadating cores.
All depends on your own CPU quality. Don't set tables on boot or by script unless they prove stable first. Or, just redo again each boot manually to be safest.

Funky kernel doesn't have adjustable voltage settings. It has a fixed -50mV undervolt. Not sure on dsb's kernel.
So for Global Sense 3.6 ROMs, what kernels will work for UV?

This is referred to as the sleep of death (sod). I would get this when I turned on deep idle using the smartass governor. I switched to the interactive governor and it works flawlessly. So try that, it should work, and you should see an improvement in battery life too
Edit: I spoke to soon, I am getting it now even with Interactive governor. It didn't give me any problems until I turned on wifi. This could have something to do with it. Try it anyways and see if it works, I am going to try and narrow down what the issue is.
Edit 2: Ok it seems to be the wifi. You cannot have wifi on and deep idle, it causes sod. I basically turned off wifi, cleared cache and dalvik, rebooted and was able to make it work.

Hi all, I've some problems with my undervolted S3 (but same issues has my brother with his undervolted Note 2).
If I undervolt my phone (-25mV/-50mV/-75mV, ecc...all values are the same thing), lag problems appear with youtube app and also with other video, like flashplayer. Lag appears after about 10 minutes I'm watching some HD videos, and I must reboot S3 to solve the problem, infact change voltages to default values don't help.
I used apps like Voltage control or CPU tweaker, that allow to create different profiles whit different values, but when the lag appears, also if I select profile with default values the problem remains until i reboot...
How do you solve this problem? If you undervolted your phones, how you solve the lag problem? Thx for replies

OK... as far as we know, every phone has its own tolerable voltage... You said even default voltage causes lag as well, may be you should overvoltage to see if you can get it stable?
Maybe it's related with ROM?

I would suggest you try stock ROM and stock kernel first, if it's all OK with stock, then first try other kernel, if using other kernel still OK, then perhaps it could ROM problem, anyway, you have to slowly determine where or what part went wrong and cause lag

I'm on Infection 2.9.1 and I also flashed the latest Hiro kernel. I downloaded Trickster MOD to change settings. I'm getting a lot of reboots but I'm also trying to save as much battery as possible. OK I got that part but what settings should I use? I'm not good with kernels and these apps, changing voltages, etc. My phone has been overheating and boot looping a lot. I also want to get best battery life possible. I just don't know what settings to use. Also if I'm using trickster to tweak my CPU shouldn't the performance in my phone settings be shut off? There is an option in kernel tuner for it. Some kernels do not support changing that setting though.
Now that he released it, this is what I used on infection the past week when 2.9.1 came out. It works amazingly. On install it gives you options for sleep 2 wake and screen off frequency (I set mine to on and 384 with no adverse issues)

So this kernel will replace Hiro which I'm using now?
And you keep saying to change sleep freq to 384? I'm guessing that will fix my wake issues. What about fixing my battery life and boot loops?

Can anyone else chime in? This is what I'm trying to accomplish.
1. Fix boot loops
2. Stop the over heating
3. Make battery last as long as possible
4. Fix the wake up issues. When I press power button to wake phone the capacitive buttons turn on but the screen doesn't.
These are the issues that I'm trying to fix. Like I said I'm currently on infection 2.9.1 using lastest hiro kernel. I need some helping finding the right kernel to use and what settings to use with kernel tuner or trickster mod app doesn't matter.

That kernel will replace hiro. You can set screen off freq upon flashing in recovery. The below pictures is my current settings for the past week and only had one freeze (it was testing something out for the kernel before released). In the picture, screen off and idle freq are disabled as you change settings when flashing the kernel. (During install, aroma will ask if you want to do default or custom install, custom for more options.) Pictures are in thumb format so less space is used in the forum. You can change second core to something else. Lionheart is a performance based governor. I use it on second core with mpdecision having a longer wait to turn on core 1 for my personal optimal battery saving/performance. Core 0 is set for power save bias so only when I need speed, core 1 will kick on with some higher MHz while CPU 0 catches up a little later.
Battery savings isn't too great, but unless you are doing some CPU intensive stuff, it does pretty well on battery.
This is CPU times today... Mind you, I used my phone for a total of 4hrs from 530-1640. The reason it stayed at 192 a lot was because I just did texting, web browsing and some other low CPU intensive tasks so far today (about 20-30mins of awake time in 192 was screen off streaming a local radio station.) Ran buttery smooth though.

My friend has a weird problem on his SGS3 after I rooted it for him. I've tried installing AOKP and CarbonRom but the issue exists on both.
Whenever I open an app-picker list (ie when adding a widget or app to desktop) I get vertical screen tearing when scrolling. The tearing is pretty inconsistent because it doesn't happen all the time but in random intervals.
I've tried enabling and disabling vsync by editing build.prop but it didn't help. I've also enabled/disabled all the rendering related stuff in developer settings but nothing works.
There was no such issue in stock ROM. I've never had screen tearing problems even though I've rooted over ten different Android phones and tablets.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the issue?

Proven by who? Where? When? Interesting!
In Nexus 4 the difference between Linaro and Google toolchain is so obvious that Linaro dominates custom ROMs. I didn't see such a big difference in SGS3 so maybe I could go with Temasek. Tough the previous question is still unanswered: is the patch in the kernel or the ROM?
