Tried today to debrand my Vodafone italy Lumia 800... the flashing with Nokia Care Suite stops at 50% and the phone stuck in flash mode.
The last Nokia Care Suite (2011.51.2.63048) can't flash RM-801 in dead mode so i shat my pants.
Reading the care suite docs carefully i've found this:
Code:
Recovery Flashing enabled for RM-817
So after few tries i've found the right way:
Create a RM-817 dir under \Products folder, like this:
then copy RM-801 firmware files in RM-817 folder:
Now open the Care Suite and select the right model (RM-817):
Select Recovery:
Select the correct flash file, remember to use always the latest version, check on "Data package manager" for updated firmwares.
follow the instructions on screen:
When you are ready connect the phone holding the volume up button and let the care suite do his job:
After few minutes:
Good find!
Can you read your product code after this recovery procedure? Maybe with this procedure it actually gets changed to the debranded product code. Thanks for checking.
Fantastic guide. Thanks a ton for this guide.

Yes, it changes because if I select "Refurbish" the nokia care suite automatically selects the unbranded firmware.

Are you sure? So it selects the unbranded firmware [which you didn't rename to fit your branded product code]?
If so then you have just found a way to truly debrand the Lumia 800 because with the refurbish option it won't change the product code. That's why for refurbish flashing you needed to rename the files.
With the product code changed your device is just like an original debranded phone, so it should be updateable using Zune without a problem (this may have been a problem with the previous method).
Nice!

As you can see, the firmware in the RM-8XX folder have product code 059L820 (RM-801_CV_IT_SWU204940_Black_v2)
The phone originally was 059L705 (RM-801 Vodafone IT IT VAR204289 black V3)

Great discovery but no Nobel vote from me. Product code is the same than was originally.
Oh sh1t syvakma1 is right. I've installed nokia care suite in virtualbox (@home i'm on a mac) and the product code is the Vodafone's one. Dunno why "Refurbish" worked with no brand firmware
sorry but i can't flash using care suite...
i have grayed the function "recovery"
if I go on "multi software updater" i see RM-801 not supported...
whyyyy ??!?!?!?!??
thanx to everybody

Thanks to this method I managed to restore my UK T-Mobile Lumia 800.
Flash failed trying to refurbish original T-mobile black rom (updated via Zune to .1500) RM-801_059L7H0_1600.2475.7720.11414 with Nokia UK black RM801_059L7C2_1600.2483.8107.11501.
Didn't capture the error, but it complained about something already being on the phone..
i cant get past the part where you have to unplug the phone, power off, plug in again and power on with volume up... do you have to continue pressing the button till the phone vibrate? i don't get it...
my intention is to get rid of the demo content...
What is the need for debranded firmware? Sorry if that sounds dumb, however im new to this whole scene. Been in iOS for ages so time to start learning.

To use your phone on another carrier, or to get updates faster. Because if your phone is branded by let's say T-Mobile, you have to wait untill they push an update. Eventually every carrier has to push an update (so it's not like on Android) but with a debranded phone you're just sure you get it when it's released and not months later. Last advantage: you don't get all the crappy apps that carriers include
Nokia Care Suite shows the 920 as a unsupported device.
You can download the firmware form RM-821 from Navifirm.
It also shows up on NCS but when I try to download it I get an error. None of the variants will download.
So, at the moment I am happily downloading the firmware variant for Telstra from Navifirm.
Once I get finish, does anyone know how to flash it?
I have a Rogers Lumia 920, which I stechnically RM-820, but neither Navifirm nor NCS have anything for RM-820.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
Want to know too
Hi,
I have the same question, I want to get it from Rogers but I want to flash it to a "vanilla" version from Nokia.
What I'm not sure is the Navifirm will have it, since its a none Symbian device.. Not sure "Phoenix tools for Nokia devices" will work either...
I would love to know that one too
Thank you.
CRAP!
Well, I can confirm that downloading a RM-821 to the Lumia 920 from Rogers (RM-820) will NOT work!
I tried, it looked like it was starting, asked me to confirm that I wanted to flash the ROM even though it was for a different product code. I said yes, it started., then BAMN. Got an error saying it was the wrong product. Now my 920 will not boot. It just stays at NOKIA. I have tried a soft and hard reset, many times, nothing. I think I am screwed until a RM-820 variation ROM is released. :crying:
Forgot to mention
There was an update for Nokia Care Suite which I downloaded and installed and it now detects the 920.

Hope you won't have to wait for too long for that RM-821 firmware to be available for download.
But I'm glad to hear that there is a version of Nokia Care Tools that can be used to flash the 920 and especially that it seems to allow flashing of firmware for a different product code no problem. I was assuming that we would have to do some renaming of files like it was necessary to flash firmware for a different product code to the Lumia 800.
I think this means that I should be able to flash my RM-821 CV Germany Lumia 920 that I'll receive in the next view days to some non-EU CV Rm-821 firmware no problem?
I think once I receive my Lumia I'll try to flash it to the CV Switzerland and hope that this will remove that stupid EU imposed volume cap that I'm pretty sure the Germany CV will have.
Regards,
karlmueller
The new version of Product Support Tool for Store 5.0 that recognizes the 920 is 2012.44.5.3
However, there are no RM-820 roms right now.
Is it possible to extract/backup the rom from a working device?

Its not the locked thing, its the splash logo of ATT or Rogers that will drive me crazy.... its more the branding than the lock thing.
Although, I prefer it will be unlocked and unbranded, it might take a while till we see it around, I can't wait that long

Because it's not the US marketplace I am interested in. It's getting tethering to work.
Of course in hindsight, I should have waited until there were RM-820 ROMs available :|
Thankfully I still have my Lumia 900 with MMS and tethering working.

Australia. Not sure, however it's too late for me to change file names on the phone.
I tried changing the .vpl file to say RM-820 instead of 821 but then I got an error about the signature being invalid
I am hopeful that when AT&T releases their phones on Friday then RM-820 ROMs will be available.
Hi!
I would like to know if a EU ROM flash Will be enough to make the hardware available to reach the LTE 800 and 2600 frequencies instead of a US ROM That reach 700 and 2100. In France, the LTE (4G) is for the 800 and 2600. If i buy the 920 in us I won't be able to receive 4G due to this differences....
Thx
Hi,

I can not download the file "DC_template_development_v4.bin"
Will flashing unlock the phone?
Hello,
I just bought an ATT 920..and currently with FIDO, Canada.
From what i have been reading so far...seems there is no way to unlock this phone..i tried all kinds of forums, sites, and ..nothing so far.
I know...i shoudlnt have bought..but i was so impatient to get this phone
Question..will flashing the phone help me unlocking it and be able to use it with FIDO canada?
Any help..suggesting would be useful..
thanks,
Eugen
Hi all, below was posted on another forum if this helps. The chap successfully flashed his 920 with different firmware. It didn't unlock his phone but he did not try renaming the sim lock file to the same as his current which I think somebody needs to do.
Download & install Nokia Care suite
Download DC_template_development_v4.bin and place in the "C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\rm-821" directory (or wherever your care suite set itself up for)
Install "WinUSB Drivers<architecture>.msi" from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers" (assumes x64 PC)
Run Nokia Care suite then run Product Support Tools
Connect the phone and let it be detected
Boot the phone into testing mode
Open device manager & find all the unidentified devices (check by unplugging and re-conecting the phone) there were about 8 for me.
Right click on each one and update the driver manually, show all hardware and select "Nokia phone"
From Tools, Firmware Downloads search for "059R075" and download files
When downloaded open "RM821_059R075_1232.2110.1244.3_035.vpl" from the packages folder
Edit line 12 (<ProductCode>059R075</ProductCode>) with the code for the EE firmware (059R1W4) so the line reads: "<ProductCode>059R1W4</ProductCode>"
Turn the phone off and then on while holding the up arrow. You should get to the Nokia boot-loading screen (Nokia logo with a cog)
Then choose "programming, Recovery" from the product support tool
Choose the downloaded image & click Start.
If you get a warning about being unable to connect to the phone do what it says and unplug the phone & power it off (hold both volume buttons and power for 5 seconds) then plug it back in.
Keep your fingers crossed for 5 minutes...

could you be a little more specific... what do you mean without loosing the I.D? if you mean without removing all apps etc, then it's not possible at this time. I would doubt that it'll even be possible when the update is pushed out next year.

This tutorial might be helpful:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-...8-on-Lumia-Devices-from-NaviFirm-314617.shtml
"For that, you will need to go to C: \ ProgramData \ Nokia \ Packages, and create a new folder labeled “Products.” Make a new folder inside it, name it as the specific model number of your device (e.g.: RM-801 for Lumia 800, RM-808 or RM-823 for Lumia 900, RM-803 or RM-809 for Lumia 710, etc).
Inside this folder, place the Windows Phone 7.8 ROM that you have previously downloaded through the NaviFirm Plus application. According to plaffo, it should be in this folder: “\ NaviFirm + 1.7 \ Fw \<product code>”."
Lumia 800 developer unlock
Hello! I updated firmware to 7.8 and now I cannot register for a developer unlock, windows phone developer registration doesn't see my phone. By the way, Zune does recognize it but when I connect the phone a message shows up that states that it cannot connect my phone to the internet though I still can sync my phone with PC, and syncronization really works. I tried to reinstall the firmware couple of times, made hard reset but no luck. It either rebooted after disconnection from pc or did stuff like now. Has anyone experienced the problem? Other than that everything is great.
Hi guys I have been following XDA Developers for years and I love it I have found many useful tips and tricks in my time from hear over at the Android forums and now I would like to share my first post with you all not only as a thank you but also even though the nokia WP 7.8 upgrade is close I was impatient like many of you and wanted it now I read lots of threads about using navifirm+ etc and renaming files but in all honesty I think my method is easier and quicker and cuts out a lot of confusion hope somebody finds this as useful as I did.
All you will need for this Update is Nokia Care Suite.
PLEASE NOTE THIS METHOD IS FOR UPDATING YOUR ORIGINAL PHONE AND CARRIER
For Example..
Before Update your phoneis running on Vodafone WP7.5, - After Update it will be Vodafone WP7.8 (carrier locked)
Before you start get your phone code pop your sim tray out and check the code by the Barcode/QR label it should be seven digits mine is 059N8H6
Write yours down and then put the sim and tray back in the phone.
Right lets get started
We need to find a decent version of Nokia Care SuiteThis I found a little hard as a lot of the downloads are full of bloatware/spyware however this is the one I used. softpedia.com/get/Mobile-Phone-Tools/Nokia/Nokia-Care-Suite.shtml ( as a new user I cannot post the Link)
You may need to update some windows components mainly Microsoft net framework 4.0 and all that is available including the extender. you may even need to update c++ redistrubutle to be able to install Nokia care suite. however Nokia Care Suite will tell you what you need.
Download and install Nokia care Suite this will take a little while and after it is installed you then install all Drivers in C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers some will not be compatible that is normal.(my system is win7 64bit)
After all drivers have been installed you can then Open Nokia care center . you may have to go to your program files and open the Nokia Folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Application Launcher\bin application launcher then right click and run as administrator.( I had Too)
once it has loaded you will have a menu double click “Product Support Tool For Store 5.0” you will see a picture of a disconnected phone and cable Click File and “open Product”
Find or type into the filter RM-801 . YOU SHOULD THEN HAVE 1 RESULT this is Our Nokia Lumia 800's click open and you will now see it on the screen (left) with the disconnected cable and phone. connect your phone so that the phone drivers get installed (after install you can leave it connected)
check that in the bottom corner their is a Globe lit up saying online it should be. then click Programming at the bottom left of the window and select Recovery. a new field will appear on screen saying Properties and you will see three boxes. Code, Variant Name and Version.
Click into the Code box and type your 7 digit code from the sim card tray you wrote down and click find online.a Box will open and lots of firmwares should appear within the popped up box in the Code section again type your code and that will give you your specific update to WP7.8
Click download and wait until it has finished after it has downloaded then click update list it should appear in the properties boxes. (if not just select tools from drop down menu and click Downloads and then double click the file)
Then Just highlight the Firmware file and click Start The software will then take over and instruct you to turn off the phone( if it is still connected) after you have done this then connect the phone to the USB cable whilst holding volume up button the phone will vibrate a couple of times and the drivers may instal again give it a few seconds and . press retry Thats it Nokia Care Suite is doing your Upgrade.
Sit Back and relax as Your Lumia 800 upgrades to WP 7.8 I am pretty sure this method will work with any Lumia device however I have only done it with MY Lumia 800 and therefore cannot guarantee it.
obviously I cannot be held responsible for any bricking or damage you cause to the your phone so only proceed if you are comfortable doing so.
Hope you all find this useful cheers oobritoo.

Your solution is good but has a big issue, and I will try to explain it to you.
Imagine that you are like me, having a Lumia 800 that you bought to Orange (or any other provider). Mine was an Orange France Lumia 800 that I had desimlocked officialy by them, and after this, I installed, via Navifirm, an unbranded ROM for the phone. When using your solution, as you said in your post, you must provide inside the Nokia Product Support Tool the code of your device, closely linked to your simcard (you said by yourslef that this code is located on the Simcard compartment. The Nokia Product Support Tool will then download and install on your mobile a ROM branded to the operator corresponding to the code provided.
Navifirm allows you to pick almost any rom, independantely to your code number, and by using a little trick (renaiming 3 files), to install it.
This is the biggest default of this method for someone who cares about not being branded again. If you are using a branded phone and want a firmware customized by your operator, then your solution is for sure the best one.
But anyway thank you for your post, it will help many of us I am sure.
Hi
My brother uses 0 which has Windows 7 installed in it as operating system. From the system itself, it has a built-in Bing search, not just for texts/phrases, images, videos, but for songs as well. Whenever a song is playing, the search option automatically picks up which song is being played & shows option to buy it from Windows Store.
I myself have Samsung Galaxy S 4G (1st generation) with Android as built-in operating system. Though I love Android for its variety, I just can't figure out how to do such song search with Android phones. Google is pre-installed in these phones. But Google's voice search doesn't help with identifying the song. Is there another way to do this?
Thanks!

But Google's voice search doesn't help with identifying the song. Is there another way to do this?
Thanks!

Simply install from Google Play Store the application Shazam or Soundhound, and you're done!

Glad it helped welcome to 7.8
This worked great up until it showed me a really old WP7.5 rom as being the latest for my phone
Looks like I have RM-819_NAM_US_CV_VAR191243_MAGENTA_V1 whatever that means.
On my nokia lumia 610 instaled windows 7.8 with Nokia Care Suite.
Probleme is: app Bluetooth Share and Ringtone Maker is not preinstaled in new firmware. On markeplace not find. I find winth qr code on net, open link to app but message: this app is not disponible for my region...etc.. I change region on my windows live id from Romania to English (UK) but same mesage.
Please give me a way to have bluetooth share. Exist win 7.8 with this app preinstal?

hi the whole phone will be wiped so you will need to back-up important files.
Solution to have Bluetooth Share (preinstaled) in phone lumia 610 is to install firmware country variant Germany...and set region to Germany in phone. Tested.

Easy, you need to install the Nokia USB Drivers, located in the folder Drivers, found inside the installation forlder of Nokia Care Suite. Then your Lumia 800 will be recognized.

Does anyone know or have access to how these codes work?
I bought my 800 unlocked from a 3UK store and don't want it locking to that network as I use a different carrier. I would have thought there were generic codes for non-carrier versions....
Thanks,
I have an issue, my phone is unbranded sim free Lumia 710 with code 059n2l6 there is no software found for this product code, Can I use any?

yes
Hi guys, I've Lumia 920 white.
I've flashed my device with the amber software given links here.
But it is originally french version.
As I'm from India, I want Indian ROM to flash my device again.
So can you guys please suggest me if can I do it and if, then how??
My phone's current status is given.
most easier way is for NSU for retail... app detect Lumia product code and download ROM for you...
http://nds2.fds-fire.nokia.com/fds_fire/1310/0909/7297834135/NokiaSoftwareUpdaterForRetail_4.1.0.exe
also you can download and flash ROM with NCS
Thank you, dxdy for your reply and also for your help.:good:
But I want to know two things
1. As I'm from India & using a french ROM. So can I update it to black version and will it create any problem in future??
2. I had a direct link from this site for downloading the AMBER ROM. Can I get this type of any link to download the original ROM[Indian ver.] to flash my 920 again.
1. should not be a any problem
2. NSU retail will download appropriate ROM by Product code (Indian) of your Lumia to your PC... check settings in NSU where is saved...
if you know product code of your Lumia, you can also find ROM by yourself on internet or download with NCS, but NSU is faster and easier way
Thank u "dxdy" for your response..
I will try with this with NSU and if any problem occurs, then please help me again..
Ok..
and one more thing I want to ask you, can this present french ROM in my 920 create problem for me if I try to update it over the air?

@dxdy
Why complicate when it can be easy?
I do not know if you saw, but there is a tutorial on xda already dealing NCS and DPM... Why not use it?
And more with the latest versions of softwares, then you are not the latest versions.
And this thread, has the screenshots.
