Update apps via cable from PC - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! Since I don't have WI-FI,and I don't want to use my Data to update my apps,I'm asking here for a solution.I want to update my apps on my S2.I wonder if I could do that via a cable, like and iPad/iPhone via iTunes. Is there any way to do that?I have a Windows XP PC,Galaxy S2 I9100 and a cable to connect it to PC.

Yes I think this is possible. Its called reverse USB tethering or something like that. Use search.

Pc will still need the net Or tether from phone. Don't you have open wifi near you? My mate lives next to mc Donalds "great place to live I no" and he uses there's. I use 3network and monthly I use about 4 to 5gig. Try and get unlimited net from network Its well worth it.

tethering help

can anyone explain, in simple terms for an idiot, how to tether a mogul from sprint to use it as a PC modem?
have unlimited data plan already.
thanks
You got stock ROM ????
If so then load up ICS and launch it, hit connect when plugged into your PC, which will detect Windows Mobile somthing and let it load. You will see a new network connection get a new IP address on your PC, and when it does you surf to your heart's content. Simple ??? yea .
I would also suggest using PdaNet from June Fabrics. This way, you can avoid the extra monthly tethering charges.

Good friend trying to use modem to get internet on her XP computer

Hey guys long time no see. im usually in the Android Kiaser section, but I got a different question for today. A good friend of mines recently got a old computer. It had a lot of viruses on it and I cleaned them out. Once I was done with that, I had her o/s up and it was running a lot faster than before.
Anyway, she wanted to use her Optimus T as a modem because she doesnt have internet connection or DSL in her house. She is a genius and all, so she picks up stuff very fast . especially in IT and computers .
Well she followed the tethering instructions for XP and downloaded it to her phone. She then hooked it up to her computer and when we searched for the file, it was there but it could not be launched.
Now I advised eher to come here and ask you guys for help, but she is very prideful and wants to figure it out on her own. Now if this were a simple hardwre issue no problem . but since this is a networking issue , and well you guys are far more experienced in these matters, I was wondering if theren were a special program she needed or something like that for her computer to properly launch the program needed for her phone to go online
Well I used to be in the same boat With the internet. Although It wasn't a smartphone. The solution i came up with after days of trying was the phone in question needed an initialization command pointing to the apn of the phone. This was accomplished with no special software just windows built in capability, on a standard sp 2 machine. I would try my optimus but i have win 7 x64. Anyway not sure whether it helps or not but the proper initialization command would be something like AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”epc.tmobile.com” the number to dial should be " *99# "
The post below me is also good. It is usb network instead of modem.

You basically have two options to go about doing this. Switch on Data on your phone ..
1. Connect the phone via the USB cable and select the LG PC suite application, under Tools there is a option of Internet connection using Phone.
OR
2. Connect the phone via the USB cable, do not run the LG suite, instead on the phone in Settings -> Wifi & networks Use the portability and tethering option. The first option is USB tethering, the second is Wifi. Just select the USB one. THis will create a local network between the phone and computer and allow you to access the internet ...
Cheers !

..Well third option is to use P500 as a bluetooth modem to access Internet.
You have to pair the devices and use bluetooth dialup profile. This post is sent that way from my Compaq nx8220 laptop
use pdanet

does anyone got a solution for reverse tethering ?
i had a htc wildfire S and it has an option "Relais internet" it appears auto when usb cable connected. it connects my phone to computers internet.
Iam really so disappointed to don't see this feature on SGS2
and PLZZZZZZZZZ for people who ask why don't use wifi.
well I have a 3G connexion in my computer ( no rooter just a usb 3G network adapter). and my computer wireless card intel 4965AGN IT DOESNT SUPPORT hosted network which means no way to create a wifi hotspot (or use connectify or virtual rooter because its the same thing as creating a hosted network)
ad-hoc network can't be detected also with my sgs2 with official firmware JB 4.1.2 (XWLSD)
could anyone help please.
Thank you

Well there was a "reverse tether" app...
I had it but haven't tried it anytime coz I don't have internet on my PC anymore...so don't know for sure if it works..
It might just work for you...
I know this is very frustrating..has happened to me too when I had just purchased the phone...hadn't got any solution at that time so ended up purchasing a WiFi router..
Press thanx if I helped...

Try this thread (don't know if this works on SGS2 or not as I've never tried/needed it, but it's a good starting point for you to investigate further).

[Q] use pc internet (opposite of tethering)

I am not sure what to call this so it is difficult to search for it... what I am wondering is... can I connect my SG2 to PC via usb and use the wired internet connection that way? (For example, at someone's house who doesn't have wireless - so I am not using cell data all the time)
It's generally called reverse tethering. I found a page here on XDA that may help you do what you're wanting to do - [Tool][Windows Only][Root] Android Reverse Tethering
Here's a good example of how to set it up for XP, MAC and Vista. I assume this should apply to Windows 7 as well.

Thanks, guys. I guess I was hoping there was just some setting on the PC and another on the phone and then connect and go. I don't want to install things on on a computer I am just "visiting" for a day or two. I appreciate the quick answers though.
If the PC has a wireless card, you can use that to host an access point for your phone to connect to via wifi.

View and Control Nokia 8 from PC

Hi all,
Just bought my Nokia 8 the other day. Got it for AUD$499! from Harvey Norman - who was out of stock - but price matched by JB Hi-fi.
I was using a Samsung Note 4, which was doggone slow. Might be resetting that one and putting it up for sale - any potential takers?
My Note 4 used SideSync, which connected to by PC via USB cable. Sidesynced allowed me to see and control my Note4 on my PC. I can do everything on the phone from my PC - I liked sending texts and SMS for example.
There doesn't appear to be an equivalent for the Nokia 8. I have seen alot of mirroring apps that require screen casting, but none which allows connection via USB.
The question - what is the equivalent out there to SideSync (which is only compatible with Samsung phones. I've tried it and it does not work). I've enabled USB debugging. The Nokia 8 says SideSync keeps closing. I can see the phone from my PC as it's connected by USB - so I can see the files on the phone from my PC - but cannot see the phone's screen or do anything to the phone.
Thanks all.
Hi,
You could try AirDroid if you know, which it gives you the option to control the phone and send texts and many other things. The only thing which i don't know if it suits you, is that it syncs through the wifi network... You connect the phone to your wifi network, and from your pc you go to a link that the app gives you and scan the QR code and thats it...
Try it maybe it will do the job for you.

Thank you for responding. I really want a USB connection to the PC as going over the air through my companies WiFi I am sure will slow things down. I have looked at Apowermirror and they want you to pay to use it and it's UI is a bit clunky. There's also Wondershare Go, but there doesn't seem to be an app on the playstore for screen mirroring, though I did do this with my Note 4.
MyPhoneExplorer
Hello, give a try to My Phone Explorer. It's free and very straight forward I think. I used it without issues.
If you Google it you'll find a link from fjsoft, that's the right one.
Good luck.
Hello, i use Vyzor to cast the screen of my N8 on my PC by using the usb connection.
The application can be used as free but if you need some quality you will need the paid version.
