Widgets on Android - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just how many of you droid users use widgets and do they serve you or phone any benefit to your usage.
Also what ones do you use.
And use i have an s3 and use some widgets.

I think this should belong to the android general forum... But I may be wrong.
Anyhow, I only use widgets that actually make my life easier. For example, the bookmarks widget saves me time to browse webs I often use. Metoffice gives me the weather on my home screen, and other toggles like flashlight and turn all sounds off can be done via the home screen without venturing into the abyss of settings

Quite a lot, I suppose. Except those who worry too much about their battery lives.
My widget-setup is pretty basic: big clock screen on the home page, google now toolbar, music player widget and a forecast widget.

Music player on homescreen (big) and lockscreen (small), calendar widget to check / edit upcoming events, UCCW with camera + clock / alarm settings + favorite contacts.

I just got one widget on my home screen which is the calendar widget (agenda view), not because of any battery saving, just because I do not use any others.
My music is controlled via headset (as I only listen over it), my profiles (loud, vibrate alarm etc.) are controlled via tasker, the clock I can see in the notification bar, controls for WiFi, Bluetooth etc. are in the notification drawer.
I would even say that I use the notification bar much more than I ever used widgets.

dont use those things a lot.

Great benefit...
Facebook, Twitter (Android pro widgets)
G+, email (stock widgets)
Calender (jorte widget)
weather clock (beautiful widget)
System tuner pro & Battery pro widgets
Audio control widget.
Using Greenify and temasek CM10.1 ROM and kernel. Battery life is way better than any Sammy ROM

I'm mostly the standard big clock with weather, music player, search bar and full screen S planner. Been tempted to throw a flipboard one on though.

Its Poweramp

I don't use them at all. Everything what I need I have in status bar (weather and any.do) or in folders on dock. I'm enjoying my wallpaper

Seeking Weather Widget

In search of a pure Weather only Widget...I like the Weather portion of Beautiful Home Weather, but do not need the clock option - does anyone know how to disable to clock or an application with only the weather portion....
Weatherbug Elite has a nice widget that displays weather which is what I use.
The Weather Channel... they have three to four types of widgets available
Try snow storm from the market

i use "Weather Widget - Free" by Android Apps. it supports different skins / themes and it can display a single weather icon with temp. i bought beautiful widgets, but prefer this app.
I use Beautiful Widgets BUT DO NOT USE THE WIDGET.
You can go to the options and have the temp show in your notification bar. That way when you click on it you get the cool animations and forecast/current weather from BW, but you get all the space on your home page by not using the widget... kinda the best of both worlds.
I never understood needed a clock widget... utterly pointless in my not so humble opinion.

Beautiful widgets or weather and toggle?

I can't decide which one to buy. I have fancy widget now and I would like weather animations like sense. What ones better? How does fancy widget pro compare too?

I think Beautiful Widgets has a free version so you could check it out. I have the paid version and when checking the weather it is autoated but not in the clock mode that shows weather. They also have some weather live wallpapers that are weather related.

Gotta say Beautiful Widgets takes the cake, much more advanced imo. It is also very moddable, plenty themes you can use on it to fit the style of your overall phone. Definitely worth the money
Thanks guys. Will try out beautiful widgets

There is nothing to be compared to Sense Weather. But I think, Beautiful Widgets tries that the best way I have seen.
Fancy widget uses your chosen weather skin in the animated forecast whereas Beautiful wgt uses the stock skin no matter what skin you are using (last time i looked).
I buy beautiful widget and working well. But i found it drain my battery,Ist i use live wallpaper to check i moved to normal wallpaer and only set current weather widget but this time again battery drain. After that i removed all beautiful widgets from home screen and now workng well. You chkd ur self in battery use when u set beautiful widget it shows more batry consumed by android system and when there is no widget it shows less.
I don't have this issue with Beautiful Widgets.
I don't notice any more battery consumption using Beautiful Widgets

I like fancy witgets

what's a nice weather widget?

i dont want it with the clock. just pure weather.
I use the weather widget in the beautiful widgets app. Gives you alot of skin options as well as sizes and very good animations.
seems like a battery killer with all those things. Anything similar, but simpler?
Try the stock Android weather widget posted here:

that pretty much hit the spot.
I like AIX Weather Widget for 24-hour rain graph.

Weather Widget with Manual Refresh Button

Any recommendations for a Weather Widget that has the option of having a manual refresh button on the widget? I'd also like multi-day forecast on the widget, transparent background, and other cool options...but can't seem to find good ones with a way to manually refresh by just clicking a button on the widget.
Beautiful Widgets though it doesn't have the refresh directly on the widget, you can easily reach it be touching the widget
Hd widgets. The best you can get. It's a paid app but its very customizable and will refresh weather on tap

When I tap the widget, it opens the app where you have to hit a refresh button in there. Is there a way to just refresh simply with 1 tap of the widget?
I also couldn't find where you can turn off auto updating, allowing for manual updating only...
I'm not sure why there aren't more weather widgets out there that have a manual refresh on the widget itself, rather than forcing you to open the widget, etc, in order to refresh. I personally don't like auto-updates to be running, but I want a 1-tap method of refreshing the weather info.
Anyway, in case anyone else is looking for the same thing, I did find Palmary Weather Pro that has this functionality. Overall, it's a pretty solid app imo, although it'd be nice to have a few more options within the app to customize things. It'll also be nice to have other app options, because Palmary looks like it hasn't been updated in a while. BeWeather was another one with the manual refresh option, but it is a pretty limited app. So if anyone else finds another one, please post here.
I also found Elecont Weather (or eWeather HD), which can be set to never auto-update, but to manual refresh when just tapping the widget. This app has a lot of widget options and can be customized quite a bit. Getting the widgets looking just right took a while due to all of the various options, but this app seems solid.

RootBox cLock Widget Question

I'm running RootBox Android version 4.2.1 and the cLock widget does not display my calendar or weather. I had the same problem with the same widget on another CM10.1 ROM. Am I missing something to enable it or is it just not working?

Read this thread and got it working on the lockscreen. Still doesn't show the weather or calendar on the homescreens though. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078205

Long press the widget to edit, then drag it down to extend it. If you have the options of calendar/weather enabled it will show them.
Download dash clock widget. Cool app. Shows time(obviously), weather, calender, gmail, texts and twitter updates. You can set it to show whatever you like
