I like big screens. And this caught my eye.
What are your opinions on switching from a Note 2 to the Mega?
Major downgrade? Or on par?
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
A Note 2 is about on par with the Mega performance wise. The screen is a big step forward size wise however. (My GF has the Note 2)
I came from a Note 1 and the Mega is about twice as fast with a much larger display.
The screen is really quite good. I was impressed. Thumbs up either way We have all been conditioned to want 1080p screen with super high pixel densities. 2 year ago a 720p was awesome looking! And it still is today

I bought Galaxy Mega with hope to replace Note 2. As I am heavily into Note taking and unfortunately Mega disappointed me when it came to reolacing Note 2.
However now using both phones, Mega b3came my primary phone and Note 2 secondary.

If you find yourself relying on the S-Pen a lot, the Mega may not be the best fit. That said, I find S Memo and my finger is actually properly useable on the Mega. As said before, in day-to-day use there is little performance difference - the Mega seems to have pretty well-optimised software.
If you use the standard Samsung keyboard, this is the first device where it's actually properly thumbable (a word, I promise!) as it has been scaled a bit to fit the screen. There's an antialiasing option to sharpen text up a bit, but the overall picture quality and sharpness surprised me. The panel in the Mega seems a good fit, with a noticeable low refresh (little ghosting throughout OS swipes etc.), better-than-average LCD blacks and good colour reproduction, although greens aren't as prominent as other colours.
There is both a size and a weight difference, but neither is unmanageable if you enjoyed the Note II. The weight difference is a technicality - they feel approximate in the hand to me. As for size, it's taller and marginally wider, but slimmer.
I have been using a Note II up until my Mega arrived, and I am more than happy after making the jump. I gain the portrait keyboard size and right form-factor for my pocket, and I lose the S-Pen and two cores. The tradeoff has been worth it to me

I switched from Note II, performance on stock is same as Note II. The main issue is a bit of juggling with 8gb internal space
Despite a lot of negative reviews, for someone looking for additional screen space this phone is great.
What people are also forgetting is that this phone is 4.2.2 and also has a lot of s4 features. One particular feature not really mentioned is that you can draw on the screen with your hand like s-pen in taking memos, etc.
I bought the original Note 1 not because of the Spen but because it has the largest smartphone screen at the time. I barely used the Spen after a week and I prefer typed notes because my handwriting is crap. The Mega even beats the Note 2 in some benchmarks because it has a higher clocked CPU even if it's just dual core.

Here's a video comparison of the Mega 6.3 vs Note 2, you can see the Note 2 lagging specially around 6:00 of the video. You can also watch gaming videos on Youtube of the Mega 6.3 and it plays almost everything.
Seems like making the switch would satisfy me.
Here's another caveat. If I sell my Note 2. I can get £325 for it. The Mega would be £401, which means forking out another £76 just to make the switch.
Worth it?

You can actually get the Mega for £369 from a reputable eBay seller right now making the switch worth just £44.
It really depends on your usage patterns.
Both myself and my girlfriend have the note 2.
She uses the note 2 mainly as a phone, and a browser, etc etc.
I use the S pen a lot and like to play around with emulators for old consoles etc which are really demanding processor wise.
So she has traded in her note 2 for a mega 6.3 which will be perfect for her. Myself I'm waiting for the note 3 because I need the extra horsepower for the demanding applications and the Spen functionality.
I must say I think its petty and childish that some note 2 users are badmouthing the mega 6.3. Its a great device and its all about choice and finding the right fit for you.. Myself I'd love a note 3 with a 6.3" screen but I can see it being about 6". I'll just have to live with the smaller screen to have the Spen etc.
Valid points.
I guess no one can make the decision except myself. The 6.3inch screen is orgasmic, however, for an S3 spec phone plus having to add money for it, requires some extra thinking time.

It's got better specs than an S3. For each krait core to run at 1.7ghz really this phone zips. I have experienced ZERO lag on my white Mega 6.3 and I play 3D games and emulators. Tekken 3 for instance is as fast as it was on the PSX with zero frame skips, same for Goldeneye (N64) and games like that.
I get that the Snapdragon S4 Pro and 600 are quad core, but honestly that's more academic than practically fast. 2 krait cores at 1.7ghz just do anything you'd need an Android device to do.
It seems like your hesitation is on spending a bit more cash over numbers and raw data benchmarks than if you'd actually enjoy the phone more in real world usage.
My take is a cell phone is the one thing you use every single day, so why not splurge a bit?
If you go out for steak you have already made up the difference in price and you enjoy that for 2 hours tops.
Cell phones are the one item I am willing to spend a bit more for the perfect one.
This phone is just awesome, and does not lack in performance in any way that I have been able to notice, it runs just as smoothly as my Nexus 4 which runs a quad core krait...
i would say just to get it, I'm glad I did.

Thats interesting re the emulators etc and its probably true that the current ones only utilise 2 cores at the most anyway.
Going forward I'd prefer a snapdragon 800 just for the open GL ES3 support, but I concur that the mega is a very nice device. I bought one for my girlfriend and really wish the note 3 would come out with this footprint.
I think its only a matter of time before someone brings out an all the bells and whistles device in this format or bigger. Very nice device though, id have no problem using it myself. :good:

""draw on the screen with your hand like s-pen in taking memos, etc""
and can I draw on a photo or screenshot?? like I used to do on the note 1?
thank you!
The stock Gallery app offers a wide variety of editing features including freestyle drawing on any image.
As finger drawing is usually not really precise, a Wacom Bamboo Solo stylus (CS-100) is a good companion.
You can't beat the Wacom active digitizer used in the Note series but on the other hand the 6.3" screen is a real advantage for any serious work.
I guess a Note 3 with a 6.3" screen would be the ideal device.

All right!! VCore.... I finally found it!
an icon at the top of the pic brings up the 'edit' menu on the bottom.
and I couldnt find any draw functions...
UNTIL.... I scrolled sideways!!!!
very nice!
Thanks for making me look there..
ive been there many times and couldnt find the 'draw' button till now.. scroll left on the bottom series of tools.
The TW 4.2.2 features are nice, but AOKP with on screen navigation buttons is going to be boss.

one handed keyboard question
Hi! I have a question for Mega users. I use the one handed keyboard option for messaging on my Note 2. When I checked the Mega out at my local store I could not find that same option. They only had the one handed dialer and calculator. Very curious if they didn't put it on the device or they just put in the floating keyboard, which could be a deal breaker for me. Could you Mega users chime in on this? Thanks so much in advance!

I checked my mega and there's no such option but the floating keyboard works well for one handed operation plus there are keyboards on the play store that supports one handed typing such as this one.
Thanks for the info! I found a 3rd party keyboard called SlideIT that does a similar job. Prediction isnt as good as Swiftkey but its decent.
Any comparisons for external speakers and screen viewing angles and color saturation? I'm thinking of making the switch as well, 6.3 seems to be the absolute limit to a phablet.

Hey everyone,
I was wondering which phone you think I should get. I currently have the HTC EVO 3D but I think I want to try out Samsung for at least a year. I have pretty big hands, so the Note wouldn't be too big for me. Should I wait for Sprint's Galaxy Note, or Sprint's Galaxy S3? Thanks!

ICS on note is officially released only in certain parts of the world, India & Germany were the first ones to get em other countries should follow soon.
I am a note owner but will be migrating to the S3, Note's great but is already an older gen phone with the quad cores coming in.
If I were you I would get either an S3 or wait for the Note 2.
PS: Will receive my S3 on the 30th and post the comparisons/impressions.
The Note will get ICS worldwide at some point or another so personally I wouldn't take that too much into account.
It boils down to screen size plus s-pen vs. quad core plus newer touchwiz. It depends if you value screen size or processing power more?

There are a few other things to it - the S3 is very likely to have higher audio quality, it also has BT 4.0 and Apt-X, full exFAT support, options for higher interal storage, better USB OTG support, slightly better camera quality and usability, and as you say better processor and GPU. Depends on a few things which will matter to some and not others.
I have a Note and will be doing lots of comparisons at http://www.AndroidNZ.net
I had the note. It is the exact same copy of the att samsung skyrocket but with a bigger screen. I wasnt impressed, its specs are outdated.
Now that ICS is out for the Note its a tough choice......Already have ICS and its a LOT faster than GB on the Note. I like using the pen as well.
For bench markers and spec buyers the S3 has a lot more to offer on paper. In reality though, for me, the DAC is the only thing I KNOW I will definitively realize the difference and not so much until SuperCurio does his magic..The only reason I would like to try an S3 is to get the Wolfson DAC and Voodoo sound back. Otherwise the screen size and the pen make the Note still viable for me.
Everything else is fine on the Note and specs are at the point where they can be measured better but not always realized in actual everyday use.
The point of diminishing returns has arrived. I have never used my OTG USB attachment or the HDMI attachments. I have 16GB plus 64GB storage and never was limited by the 2 GB limitation. 2GB is a HUGE single file. So look at ALL the capabilities and decide what is important to you as far as what you will actually NEED
Your decision based on those parameters will be easy...... I would keep the Note myself and wait a few months to see if Samsung rumors reveal a Note II with S3 specs.
i was one of the people who moved from Note to S3, i still have my note though... my personal notes after 5 days of s3 use:
1. Note Screen is still Bigger, better for reading larger texts although at the same S3 Screen shows better Colors and more CRISP font and i enjoy it actually.
2. Note PEN is unbeatable in all ways... i miss it. it did not work on s3, a special s3 pen is required it seems and it maybe coming soon.
3. S3 performasnce is way better than note... it is noticable in every aspect. Samsung i beleieve have worked well on the software in overall This Time.
4. i did not notice any battery drain on s3 at all, it lasts even more than NOTE which is bigger battery. knowing i am using 3G or WIFI always on, one of them always on. i have tried all GB and ICS Roms on NOTE.
5. S3 lacks MASS STORAGE! it uses only MTP option.
6. S3 is great for portability, Large screen and Lightweight at the same time.
7. those who think S3 design is not good, you have to hold it in your hand, for me i see it very nice ...
8. S3 does not include Polaris office full version or even Photo Editor that comes with note!
9. for now i will keep Using S3, i love it now but maybe if the nostalgia hits, i will use the note also
This is what i think of now...
I bought my note on 20th March 2012, and sold it on 19th May 2012, I will be buying GSIII, it will be launching here on 31st.
The reason I sold note was the size of it it is too big for me, but the screen size is really nice for browsing and watching videos, I think SIII wont be far behind Note but much more pocket-able, and easy to use, at least for me.
Galaxy S3 if you ask me.
i just bought my note 3 weeks ago now i'm buying the SIII ill keep both then sell one of them after few months
Note, if you need the pen. And of course, because of its size, the Note is also a great hand fan
hmmmm it sounds like the galaxy s3 is the phone to get. although I think I'll just get whatever comes first to sprint.

Asking out of curiosity, how will you use two phones ?
Alternate days ? Or switch weekly ? Or use both all the time with two seperate Sims ?
I've a sgs2. I want to move to sgs3 because of superior screen and good audio quality. But I don't want to sell my sgs2.
Can't figure out how I'll use both ?

Well, the S Pen on the Galaxy Note is actually an inductive stylus. The phone itself has the wacom digitizer built-in, that's why it is said to be for the niche market; and not so for the S III. So, only the capacitive stylus is compatible with the S III.

I think that 4.8" screen is enugh for browsing, gaminig...
In my opinion Note is too big for use with one hand.
I had an AT&T Note for almost a month, but in anticipation for the S3 I returned it. The main reasons I wanted the S3 over the Note:
- Battery: I wasn't happy with the longevity of the Note's battery. I didn't want to have to baby it (constantly monitor RAM/Programs) to get adequate usage out of it. The battery wasn't horrible by any means, but having that big beautiful screen didn't mean as much if you couldn't get enough time out of it on a full charge. (btw I kept everything stock so my exp with the battery pertains to that)
- Size: I tried my best to get used to the large size of the Note, but found that it was just a tad too big for me in the end. The one-handed use of it just wasn't practical for me, even though I did adapt to the size somewhat. Having a hybrid phone/tab was great, but I found that I missed the ease of a smaller device when multi-tasking with my other hand.
Those two factors were what really pushed me towards the S3. I felt the 4.8" would be a perfect match for size/practical use. And the battery sounds like it's definitely a winner too.
Okay, I had assumed the 6.3 rumors were a massive joke,
But now the 'galaxy mega' is official and it has a 6.3 inch screen!
Good lord.
Size comparison:
Note 2: 151.1 mm x 80.5 mm x 9.44 mm.
Mega 5.8: 162.6 x 82.4 mm x 9 mm
Mega 6.3 : 167.6 mm x 88 mm x 8.0 mm
My initial thoughts:
STOP making phones thinner! Phones are stupid thin. I want my battery life!
After adding the Seido Active case, I am starting to find the Note 2 a bit unwieldly.
I have to mess around with it a bit to get to fit in my pockets. (and it does, but it's an indicator that I'm hitting my limit)
The idea of a phone that is 16mm longer is a turn off for me and probably a deal breaker.
If the screen is unbreakable and I can dump my case, that will help a bit, but in the end
my phone MUST fit in my pants pockets or it's a deal breaker.
But one weird thing, why are the megas so much longer than the note 2? They seem almost 8 mm too 'long'.
Does that mean the note 3, 6.3" would be 160mm long? That might be doable.
Time for another cardboard mockup test.
Wait, it's dual core, not quad (Yeah A15 I know)? Surprising. And yeah, too large for my liking, love my Note II and looks like I'll be sticking with it for a looong time
Don't forget that Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Mega is not just a phone... This is PDA in my view. Calling feature is just a bonus.
Galaxy mega looks to me a bad, material wasted strategy from samsung, 5.5 size was enough, 6.3 doesnt provide any justification for kewping it as a phone.

That's what people said about the original Note!
Personally, I don't see the point of both the 6.3" and the 5.8", but their must be a specific strategy here.
My theory is that these two devices are essentially testing the water for a larger screened Note 3.

No way the note 3 will be bigger than 6.3 inches. I just think that these are for folks in small markets that can't afford the high end notes or Galaxy s phones. These 2 phones are mid tier, more affordable and still offer all the touchwiz features including air view, air gestures and all that.

He guys...
Before i had the N7100 I had the GTP6800 tab 7.7 this Tab had everything that i needed, tab and phone in one. Business and private combined... Loved it, but just too big to carry along for daily use. I do miss the 160 dpi tablet interface and screen layout. I now use the N7100 with 280 dpi and some app with 240 dpi for convenience. .
MyPoint
I think that the 6.3 inch Mega would be a good alternative for business and private use that is just big enough to carry around. There is a market for this for sure.. Samsung isnt stupid.. the evolve / adapt to the needs of the consumer. Think about the flex screens that they are working on. Just to get a 6.3 inch to be a new standard, they are making a beginning. the 6.3 is all strategy and adapting to the future imho.
Anyway...hope to get my hands on the Mega soon =)

I don't think so dude, I understand Samsung is testing the water to see what people think about it, but anything bigger than 6.3 inches would without a doubt be in tablet territory and 6.3 inch is already a stretch. Think about it for a second, the 6.3 inch mega is almost a full inch bigger than the note 2..... I just don't see it being the new standard. But I do think some ppl would love it. I love bigger phone but 6.3 inches I would not do.
The note 2 is at about the limit for me so far as size goes. It fits into my pocket but only just.
Sent from the mighty Note II.
Hehe they just keep pushing the boundary. And why not, we keep following it.
Thought the original iPhone was too big at the time - got one - got used to it.
Thought the One X (or S2) was too big - got one, got used to it.
Thought the Note II was ridiculously big - got one, got used to it.
However the line must be somewhere??
I think for me the line is absolutely with the Note II. This is just of the size that it fits and can be semi comfortably used with one hand. Any bigger is just too much (though I said that about the One X, so I can see where they're coming from, but I think I mean it this time).
What strikes me as odd is that the spec is so backwards. Dual core? 1.5GB? And no pen. It's like they're aiming purely for the "phone as an equivalent of a wang size contest" market and I'm not sure that'll work as the Note II has other things going for it like high end spec, S-Pen, super battery etc.

I remember when i had my mytouch 4G, after a while i was thinking : I'm quite happy with this phone - i just wish the screen was bigger. The note is meant for those people, I think. I bet the mid range large screen market is pretty decent.

That's actually an A15 dual core. Probably better then the A9 Quad Core on Note 2.
And the Mali T-604 GPU on that thing will run circles around our Note2. It's used to power 2560x1600 Nexus 10 tablet. At 720x1280 it might be the fastest device yet!
In fact, the 1.5GB and inferior screen are the only things that differentiate it from the top offerings (S/Note lines). It will be a powerhouse anyway.
No S-Pen is obvious, it's not of the Note pedigree.
But if priced correctly, this can be a ridiculously good offering... well... for people with oversized hands, anyway.
But still.. how come samsung just didnt save those screen sizes for future Note's line up :/

The places where I keep my phone/smartphone have ALWAYS been the same, they don't grow nor shrink: fanny pack, jeans back pocket, jacket pocket.
So, the ideal smartphones dimensions DO NOT CHANGE with time. They don't for me and they don't for anybody else.
People marvelled at the first 4"/4.3" displays and many started to scream "it's too big!!" (especially Apple following morons). Then, most people got accustomed to them, "understood" them and started to like them (and buy them in droves).
I was just waiting... (and enjoying my Galaxy S, SII, Note and Note II in the meantime)
With today's tech's state of the art (RE weight, thinness, bezel etc) a 6.3"/6.5" is just PERFECT for me. It's the screen size I have ALWAYS wanted.
Any bigger and it wouldn't fit where I have always kept my smartphones (and phones before them), any smaller and I am "wasting space" and loosing out on what I could easily carry around, enjoy and take full advantage of.
When a smartphone doesn't fit where I carry it well, then I call it a tablet..
I will be pretty pissed if the Note III will have a 5.9" display (which will likely have) when the Mega has a 6.3" one.
I would instantly get a Note III even if it didn't have ANY improvement or spec bump over the Note II BUT a bigger display but at the same time I won't downgrade to a slower CPU and, above all, less RAM (not to mention loosing the S-Pen which I don't use all that often but I do appreciate the times I use it). So that's why I can't get the 6.3" Mega.
I am really disappointed to read some of the things written here on the NOTE II forum, a lot of it is just the garbage usually spouted off by the ignorant average user (especially Apple users, Apple is the one company whose HW and SW philosophy I hate the guts of).
In short: bring it on Samsung! We POWERUSERS who actually NEED and USE the full gamut of capabilities of today's smartphones instead of "wearing" them like fashion accessories (**** useless garbage like iPhones, HTC One, Lumia 920 and the rest of their ilk), appreciate big screens, removable batteries, top specs, lots of memory space, the most complete set of HW features, the most powerful mobile OS with tons of added SW features AND PLASTIC/POLYCARBONATE build over ****ing metal bodies, are calling for it!!

So now they been out a whole min. What's yours thought is the s4 better than s4active. Maybe the note 2. I've used these both for a week not sure from a mixing modding point of view. Any input is great. This has been asked before I'm sure. What's the bests phones out for android.?? If you could upgrade for 0.00 what would you do and why? Thanks

Woudnt this be better in the General Android area to get a much larger feedback than that of the Note users. Since not a single device mentioned is the Note.
The Wife has the Active. A friend has the S4. Another friend the Note 2. The main difference is screen size at first glance. Then you start nit picking and see that the Active is waterproof and all that. The S4 has a better camera. The Note 2 has larger screen and Stylus.
So really which one do you like more?
The best phone is the one that does what you want with having the features you want. What I want isnt what you want so my opinion means little to nothing to you. I like the LG Optimus G Pro over any of the phones mentioned. That is cause it is the size I want, has the features I want and does what I want.
So really nothing anyone says anywhere on the net can help you by telling you which is the best, you decide that for yourself.
My wife has a Note 2, and I just purchased an S4 for my father today. As much as I love the size of the Note, if I was forced to go Note 2 or S4, I'd go S4. The screen is perty, it was fluid, and I feel like the ROM base for it -- I've not looked -- would be insanely expansive as would the number of devs working on it. That said though, I don't touch the wife's Note 2 as it makes me envious. I always want to hit her when I see her on it for 15 straight hours then tell me her "battery is sucking" and it still has like 70% left.
Now, Note 3 vs S4, I think I'd then go with the Note 3, as I reckon it'll have all the fanciness of the S4 with the size we all <3.

This is from a non modding point of view based on stock settings....
The regular S4 isn't that much different than the S4 active. You can either have a water resistant S4 with 8 megapixels, or a regular S4 with 13 megapixels. I read the active isn't as vivid as the regular version also. I'd take which ever one is cheaper. If they were both free I'd take the regular one. It's a very cool phone with lots of fluff features and has the latest software. It's powered by 1.9ghz quad core.
The Note 2 is a larger phone with stylus. If you think you'll be using the pen a lot, and want a larger screen than the S4, this is the phone for you! It's not the latest software. You'll have an 8 megapixel camera and a slower 1.6ghz quad core.
From a mixing modding point of view...
If you have the S4 with the latest software I don't think you can currently mod it at this time. The bootloader is locked. That means the Note 2 wins.
In my opinion... I'd wait for the Note 3!

Ok I will have to edit the op. I should not of started this post drinking on camp grounds. I'm about 2 yrs in with the note. Cracked glass on camping trip and broke my note and they offered me a upgrade. I'm very partial to the note line up.

If your partial to the note lineup man I strongly recommend the note 2. I had it, but broke it to the point of no fixing. It was awesome while I had it. I've gotten a chance to play with an S4 also, and while it is very fluid, the note 2 with the right custom ROM/Kernel combo on the note 2 works just as well in day to day use. You may honestly only see the difference in heavy gaming or emulation & that's the honest truth. That enhanced speed is placebo IMO. I will say the camera and screen on the S4 is FANTASTIC, but I'm perfectly happy with the 8mp cameras that samsung puts out as well as having a 720p screen. I don't need 1080p just yet......emphasis on the yet lol. From the modding point of view, I'm sure the S4 will have just as many mods and custom roms available for it as the note 2. The screen size was the most shocking thing for me though. Having used the note's 5.3 inch 16:10 aspect ratio for so long, and then using the S4's 5 inch 16:9 aspect ratio screen threw me for a loop.
If you can hold out though I have high hopes for that delicious powerhouse note 3.
I would wait another couple of months for the Note III. That's what I am doing.

Although I've only had my Mega 6.3 for 8 days, I've gotten used to the large screen. Now that the Note 3 has been anounced, it's got a 5.7 screen and I think that's too small. Once you go large, you can never go back...
I love the features and the horsepower of the Note 3, but the design... it looks like the Note 1 again. Bigger rounder corners like the Mega are better for comfort in your pocket in your jeans. i think i have to hold it and try be4 i buy this one.
Yes me too mega is the beast... disappoint of note3 size
i9205 Tmobile USA
Same here. Although I am still kind of on the fence.
I'm picking up a 16gb mega right now. I'm back lol.
I didn't like the note 3 design, I was hoping for a large 6 inch screen. Acer s2 liquid also looks good.
When I had the original Note I didn't feel attracted to the Note 2 because the difference in screen size wasn't big and it was actually lower resolution. It felt like a downgrade and anything smaller felt lacking even if they had better CPU/GPU. That changed when I saw the Mega and now I can't get excited for phones having a smaller screen. The things that I was hoping for that might interest me with the Note 3 was a bigger screen in the same pocketable size as the Mega, optical stabilisation, and 64gb/128gb standard internal memory. Those never happened so I'm much better off waiting for the Mega 2.

You took the words out of my mouth. The megas screen spoiled me.
I think the Mega screen spoiled all of us. I just can't see going to a smaller screen.
This may sound like sour grapes but it's not. IMO, the 3 has way too much stuff. I mean, if it gets unlocked and rooted and people install a custom ROM such as 10.2, then most of the stuff is not going to work anyway.
I came from the org Note and rooted and installed a ROM the first day I had it.....never used the spen as it was intended.
I've had my 6.3 for a little over a week and I'm still finding things on it. I just found the task manager two day ago.
So, my vote would be no on the Note 3. I'm very happy with the Mega and will be even happier when it gets rooted.

What you said about the CM rom disabling the features of the Note is actually a really good point.
True the screen resolution of the Mega isn't the highest but it sure looks good anyway!
So yeah, agreed too, will pass on the Note 3 ^^
Only downside of Mega is that it's such a niche product that I'm afraid that the developpement will be slow
I'm still hedging between the Mega and the Note 3.
I really want a powerful device with the latest specs, but the Mega's screen real estate keeps tugging on my heart.
I guess i'll wait until the Note 3 is actually in stores so I can play with it myself. That's the only way I'll be able to make a good decision. I am excited about all of the features. The enhancements to Multiview look pretty nice.
As an aside, I hope they do another Dropbox promotion soon. I need more space.

I agree. High end devices tend to be more of a numbers race to beat the competition while the mid range is more value for money. With the Note 3 you will be paying for specs and features you will never use or don't need. If most people think like us in this thread then I'm confident more people will buy the Mega. It only had 2 months in the market and just available in the US so it's still early days. With the price getting lower after the release of high end phones (the Mega is now just £316 on Amazon) it will be a hit this Christmas.
This is somehow a re-post of mine from another thread but I think it applies perfectly to this thread too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been holding on and skipping devices that really appealing to me(LG Pro, Oppo, Sony Xperia Z, etc) for the Note 3.
I was going to order the Xperia Z Ultra but thankfully I convinced my self otherwise. I'm not playing many games now days nor using it heavily.
Mostly for above average media consumption, light gaming, browsing.
Also as I said I was waiting for the Note 3 since the day Note 2 was announced since I decided to skip a generation.
And thankfully I decided to skip the Note 3 for the Mega. I really wanna go even bigger this time. I don't mind the mid-range performance.
And since my original Note with Asylum 4.3 now feels so incredible(it felt good with custom JB 4.1.2 too), I can only imagine the Mega will blow my mind.
I got the Note 1 at launch and I paid for it quite dearly for it back then.
And today I got my Samsung MEGA(i9200). HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! I'm really in love with this devices. The size, the screen, its sound are just... amazing!
I can't even remotely explain how I feel about it. This IS really the device that ever wanted.
I'm using it for a couple hours now and I can tell you I wouldn't even think about trading it for a Note 3(for free yes as I could sell the Note3 and buy another Mega )
This is really my preferred size of a phone. But I can go down to 6" too if the N4 is released next year and its 5,9-6,0". The best device so far I ever owned.
I also stated that I can go up to 6" when I got my Note in previous post of mine. So I was kinda always wanted a phone this big,
Watched a few trailers, videos clip, youtube videos, listen to many songs. I can say the experience was amazing. I haven't played any games yet tho.
This phone is big. You cannot really how humongous it's unless you light up the screen. The you can understand how huge it is. But it doesn't feel THAT bigger than my Note tbh.
I think that sums things up for me. I haven't felt this excited for a phone since 21 months ago when I got my original Note. Really happy owner here.
I'm torn between this and the Note 3. I don't really use the phone for more than playing games, talking, texting and facebooking. Oh and a music player. I'll watch a movie when I can. I have the Note 1 and I'm cool with the display whatever it is. The only reason I'm getting something different is because my Note 1 is about to bite the dust. Does it sound like the Mega is good for me? The only reason I got the Note in the first place was because of the size if that helps at all. I use my S-Pen to draw on pictures every blue moon.

Quick question. Is the screen the same as the Note? I guess the density or whatever the hell it's called? Oh and is it the same speed or faster? Does it have MultiWindow? That's about the only thing that I want from my Note.

No resolution is slightly less due to ratio change
The original was 1200×800 this is 720 i think but could be wrong however its a brighter more natural screen as opposes to the note 1 which was a poor amoled. The note 3 is obviously a 1080p
Yes multiwindow is ther as is airview
Much faster than note 1 way slowe than note 3

The mega screen is better than note 1 and 2 imo. I think the crispness of the LCD panel puts it over the edge.
Benchmarks wise, the Note 3 will beat the Mega but actual every day performance will not be that different specially if you do some tweaks (replace Touchwiz, disable unused features, set animation to 0.5 or 0, etc).
i can't decide between the s4 and the note 2. i've read many comparisons of the two, which list most of the differences in features. however, almost all the comparisons are older, and state that some missing features on the note 2 will show up with future software updates. with 4.3 getting ready to roll out for the note 2, i'm curious what features are still missing. i like a lot of the camera features on the s4.
I personally have the S4 and a friend has the Note 2. There are a good bit of differences between the two phones. What sold me on the Galaxy over the Note was not necessarily functionality but it was the fact that if never be in the situation to utilize the S Pen enough to be worth it and you wouldn't be able to Life Proof it and still have access to the pen. I'd also say to consider the Note 3 if the price isn't out of your range.
You might get the extra camera features in an update for the Note 2 but what you'll never get is a better camera in general... if a camera is a big deal then get the S4 because having used both the S4 completely destroys the Note 2 in picture quality. I guess the big question is do you think you'll use the S-Pen for anything more than a once in a while gimmick? If you can truthfully answer that you will then I guess you have your answer. Also, having seen both devices side by side I honestly think 1080p looks WAY better than the 720p despite the larger screen... I want the clarity more than the size.
Like Quentin.Sheley already said though, if you have the money then the Note 3 pretty much gets you the best of both worlds without having to compromise...
i honestly dont think i would use the s pen very often. my thinking is that with typing out text messages and emails, browsing the web and watching videos, i would enjoy the bigger screen on the note (but still unsure of how pocketable it will be, especially after an otterbox). however, my only 2 smartphones have been the droid x and the original razr maxx (current phone). so even the s4 will probably feel huge at first.
the note 3 looks awesome, but it is out of my price range.

Go to a retail store and play an HD video with the Note 2 and S4 side by side and you'll see what I mean about 1080p being so much sharper... now if after that you decide you still just want more screen real estate well then that's fine, I love the Note 2 just as much as the S4 but remember what I said about the camera and if you are set on using Otterbox that Note 2 is going to be insanely bulky
i know that the s4 is newer and has more features and better specs. i guess i'm just trying to decide if i want the bigger screen.

How much are you willing to spend? If you don't mind waiting a few months the Note 3 is sure to drop in price, probably to around $250 on Amazon or WireFly, perhaps more with deals/coupons/etc so if you want that nice big screen you're better off getting the awesome 1080p that the Note 3 has to offer. If however your budget is under $200 or you don't want to wait then the Note 2 is still a great option
IMO s4
I was debating the same thing. But I love my choice with the s4. If I want a device that big I would get a 7" tablet to carry around and use my phones hotspot to browse the web with. The note 2 is still a great phone and is very similar to the s4 but if you want better camera and amazing screen res, and if you want a better performance phone. (With a custom rom ) Then I would go with the s4. If you feel like you're in need of a bigger screen then note 2. But if you decide to go the note route wait it out for the note 3. Will definitely be worth the wait.
