Sony Tablet S - Wifi/bluetooth - Samba Resolving Issue - Sony Tablet S

I have had my Sony Tablet S for about 9 months and as I think everyone knows the wifi disconnects randomly. I've found my biggest problem when using Wifi with bluetooth. The network would lose data and then disconnect every 5-20 minutes (sometimes in less than a minute). Thanks to Condi and those involved in the recent break through, I was able to root my r5a. Once I installed Samba Network Fileshare, it seems to have stopped being an issue (at least, no issues within my normal use 30 min - 1 hr at a time). I've used every app designed to fix and force wifi connections I could find with NO success. I have to say I've been close to chucking the tablet as hard as I can against the closest wall, but since root and the Samba install, I've had a much more pleasant experience.
I'm sure there's a question in there somewhere, but for now, I thought I'd share my experience.
The closest thing to a question in this thread would be "What is Samba Network Fileshare doing to fix the network issue that other wifi connection apps would be doing?"

is it the same samba as used in ubuntu to share file from windows pc?

Its probably the same software technology. Its how I use it. but it is by funkyFRESH

Wifi fix Sony Table S (root & install Samba Network Fileshare)
Thanks, I have rooted my Sony Tablet S and installed the "Samba Network Fileshare" app and the wifi speed and stability had a huge improvement.

WIFI problems when using streaming radio

ok......Ive had 48 hours of wifi lags/intermittent connection issues...It was really making my archos 70
purchase begin to taste sour.....
I was toying with the idea of upgrading my router firmware....or possibly changing to a new router as was suggested
by another forum poster....
Well.....Ive just had 1 hour of continuous dolphin based web surfing with not a single problem...
This is from expert "Spawn" found in another forum:
Forum:
Bug/problem - "disable powersave" doesn't work
Heres a tip
After you have setup the connection and connected via wifi, then goto the wifi manager under settings, click and hold on the connected wifi entry, a menu will appear where you have an option to edit the entry, select to edit, you will find the disabled powersafe option are not checked, check it and save the wifi entry - it now saves the option and keep wifi alive also during screen off.
This has worked great forme so far for a couple of hours. Will let you know tomorrow if this issue is solved...
well...of course, this needs to be done manually each time you launch your a70
Archos needs to fix that disconnect powersave switch in the next version of the firmware...
Let me know if this helps....

I tried this above and it does not work for me.
I want to listen to TuneIn Streaming Radio, also when I switch off the screen.
But then always WIFI is dropping.
I also downloaded
the app
WIFI keep alive
but this also does not work with my Archos 70.
My Firmware version is 2.3.26 (Android 2.2.1)
Is there any newer custom firmware that works better than this without WIFI dropping ?
Any good tutorial to root my Archos from my firmware version to a better custom firmware version ?
I only have the WIFI dropping, when the screen goes off... so there must be somehow a fix for this maybe
via another app ?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards, Stefan.

[HELP] Ray WIFI and GPS problems

So I've got my Ray for a few months now, but ever since I have problems with the WIFI and GPS connections.
GPS:
I used to use Navigon on my Acer Liquid, but that app doesn't work anymore unless there's an active data connection and I don't have a data plan. Now I use CoPilot Live Premium 8.xxxx. App itself works well, but the GPS signal get's lost every few minutes and I have the feeling this is getting worse. Especially in cities it's posible I have to wait for like 15 minutes to have a signal and after that the signal gets lost every 2 minutes or so. Is this just due to a poor GPS receiver in the Ray or what?
WIFI:
I can connect to my router (WPA2-Personal AES) but only for 2 minutes. After that, the icon in the status bar shows that my Ray is still connected to the router, but there is no internet connection anymore, eg in the market pages keep on loading most of the times without saying the connection is lost or so and I have to turn off WIFI and turn it on again after a minute to have it working again for 2 minutes -_- If I do this a lot, it even kicks my computers of my network and I have to reboot my router
I hear there a quite a few problems with the WIFI in kernel related situations and it's often solved by using a custom ROM, but I would like to stay on stock ROM.
What could be causing this? The router, the WIFI security...? I didn't have the chance to test it on another router, maybe tomorrow.
Any help would be appreciated!
For the wifi, if you could test it on another network, we could know if the problem comes from your phone.
For the GPS, if your phone is rooted, I suggest you this application, with every Android phone I have I use it, and I have a some-seconds signal acquisition. It may fix your problem, but I don't understand its origin.

Thanks for the app tip, I will try it!
Try sygic for navigation. It's free and for now it worked with no problems for me.
I have some problems with wifi too. At home i can connect to the router freely, when using my laptop as router it shuts the laptop down, at friends it restarts his router it almost looks like Ray is to aggressive when connecting.
I looked into the problem again today and finally, I got it working.
The things I did:
1) Router firmware update (Dlink DIR-615)
2) Removed Ray's DHCP settings from the router and added them back manually so it never expires.
(Up till this point I still had the same issues.)
3) Changed the WIFI mode from N and G mixed to N only
=> PROBLEM FIXED
There seem to be a lot Xperia users (especially Arc) with my kind of WIFI problems. This thread was very helpful:

I don't have GPS problem as it connects within 1 min without AGPS support...
But i do face wifi problem especially when downloading larger files >100mb.. It constantly gets disconnected...
The wifi disconnection is genuinely present when i am downloading torrent files... It just kills the connection then connects again... I literally can't download any torrent files especially larger ones like movies etc...didn't have this issue when i had HTC sensation...

[Q] Internet stopped working on wifi on .73 SG build

This is most bizzare. My internet on wifi was working fine until last night, but it is not working any longer. Works fine on 3G though. On wifi I am able to see connected devices on the local network and play files off my HTPC but internet browsing, google play store or anything that uses internet has stopped working and times out. All other wifi devices in my home are fine. I have reset the wifi router as well, nothing. Tried to disable and enable wifi on the phone and restarted a few times as well. Cant really put my finger on it.
Any ideas?
I updated to the SG .73 build about 3 days ago. I noticed batter battery life, no where near what I was used to on my GS2 though.
Anyhooo, any ideas guys, I am concerned.

That's unlikely to be your device. Probably the router or something.

I have also messed around with the wifi sleep policy. No issues there. Power saving is also disabled.
Could it be anything else? An app maybe? I will remove the most recent ones and report back. Badass battery monitor was the last one I installed.

Hi, along with that also try to connect to some other router and let us know if the problem persist.
The wifi connection remains active but no internet. Just thought I would add. I will connect to another wifi hotspot. My wife's GS2 tethering and report back.
I assume that you got "limited connectivity" problem.
If my assumption is true then you should try checking in your Wifi router setting, set encryption method to AES. The problem was addressed when I tried doing this and in addition, changed my Wifi channel from auto to a specific channel.
Right, not sure how this all started but like many others my internet connection (More specifically over wifi) just randomly stopped. After a fair bit of reading on both these forums and Sony's own forum, I downloaded and installed an app called WeFi Pro. Somehow this seemed to fix everything and now have a working wifi internet connection again.
Will do some more reading into this but as a fix i'd recommend installing this app. Oh BTW its free so its a win all round!!

Ditto. Its the only app that works at the moment. It keeps your wifi awake even when the screen is off. I've been using it for a couple of months now on my Sony Tablet S.
However, no app yet is able to remedy the weak signal and its difficulty in retaining wifi signal. A lot of bogus and placebo aps available in the playstore. Do share if you guys found any that may help our sony tablets.
I only have wifi issues with this new netgear wifi router we got at the office... wifi lock works great but doesn't force a connection and the app in the op works sometimes but not always.... I'm VERY disappointed in this tablet because of the wifi issues and got it when it was first released. I called sony support three or four times but those guys are truly a joke and are in denial that this tablet has wifi issues.
Interesting. I had replied to someone in another thread that I started seeing a similar issue on my Tablet S after update 5, but I missed these threads with lots of users seeing this. Mine never shuts down during use, but will randomly shutdown while asleep. I've not seen any correspondence between times it does it (sometimes midnight, sometimes 8am) or amount of time asleep or battery charge level. I'll try this app and see if it helps.

Hi guys,
Maybe some of you faced the same problem and can advise me something. I have a Linksys router and my Tablet S and my mothers X10i can connect to it only once, then it will be Connecting... Disconnected. And just shows available networks. Yeah, I know it might be a router problem, but how come my Xperia S, ThinkPad Tablet or any other PC or old Nokia and iPhone phones never had these issues? The workaround is to restart the router, it helps only once, after I will disconnect it will never connect again until next routers' restart.
Sony will never admit this issue. Ok, so what can I do? Different Wi-Fi drivers?

[Q] WIFI home network slows down drastically when wifi on phone swithed on

Hi friends,
My Xperia Z2 is about six months old. Since last month its giving me a hell of a problem with WIFI. Whenver I switch On wifi on the divice, it slows down the internet on the divice itself further also slows down the home network speed (9Mbps to 1 Mbps and gradualy 0). When I switch off the wifi on my xperia, all other divices works great.Initially I thought its my modem issue, hence got a new modem and still the issue persisted. Furthermore this issue occurs intermittently -twice on thrice in a week and persists for a day or two, then suddenly runs fine.
Steps performed already:
1. WIFI and router settings are ok. Infact installed a new modem.
2. Phone repair and software update done on PC companion. ( Whenever I do this, it runs ok for a couple of days and then back to square one).
3. Tried using friends home wifi network and similar experience.
Had any of you guys encountered this issue. I have been asked to send the phone for warranty repair. However I am afraid, since the problem is intermittent , hope the repair guys would actualy able to find the issue.
Thanks for your help,
Regards
Abhijeet
any help friends?
Thanks
Try using a firewall app like AFwall+. Block everything and start unblocking your apps one by one. See if there is any rouge app in your phone
Good luck!

Also check to make sure you don't have conflicting ip addresses. My router would assign my phone and laptop the same ip address which caused issues. I manually set my phone to an address outside of the dynamic range.
