A brother of mine recently bought two Chinese iPhone 5 clones and Galaxy Note II ones. And I wanna see what's in those, what features do they exactly have, what software do they run and what hardware exactly are they. I tried to google this and I stumbled upon these forums, though I never got a solution that worked for me.
Is there any computer software I can while having each of those phones connected to my PC that use which might help acquiring that information? You guys mention SuperOneClick, but that does nothing in my case - none of the buttons work, no drivers get installed. Oh, I don't know if it matters, but I'm running Windows XP.
Many thanks in advance.
In most cases those Chinese clones don't use any of the mainstream phone os like android, IOS, WP8. They use other os such as bada or meego and put skins on the os so that they look like the mainstream os. The reason for this is coz of too much competition and low price phones in the Chinese market causing the production of low standard phones and tabs and phablets that somehow leak into other established markets... In some special and kinda rare cases those phones do come with stock android. In this case,The reason drivers don't install is because the manufacturers haven't released the drivers probably because the phone isn't widely known. Probably start searching for the manufacturer and ask for the info and drivers. And maybe, just maybe, they will give you the info. If it has the Google playstore download an app called android file info. It will give you a the info be it hardware or software including your IP address

Thank you for the reply.
Though the thing is, e.g. one of those phone that I have pretty much looks this one:
"Airphone i5 Smart Phone MTK6515 Android 2.3 OS IOS Menu Original Size i5 Wifi" (google that, turns out I can't yet post external links within my posts)
and as you can see on that site, they pretty much claim that it's Android based. Mine has 4 GiB though, or so it seems - when I connect it to my PC, it detects a FAT32 disk of that size.
So, how do I find out what those really are? Is there anything I can use on the menu to maybe see the real technical spec? There are many of those iPhone 5 clones on the internet, all of which claim they are MTKxxxx hardware inside. Should I trust those website? And what is that MTKxxxx? How do I find out which version (if any) mine is? How do I find out what's the screen resolution, CPU speed, and the RAM it really has?
Thanks in advance.
Mtkxx devices can be trusted. They just make phones that look like iPhone but are really just android. Since it is android go to the Google playstore and download an app called android system info. It will give you all those details... Believe me it does and doesn't require root

But how do I install it? This phone is a bit weird, for instance, when I try to watch a video on yt through its Youtube icon it gives me an error "format no supported". How can I even know if it's a real MTK, it just looks like one of those from those websites :\.
On a computer Google 'Google playstore ask download' download the apk. Then copy it to your SD card. Put the card into the phone. Using the file manager in the phone, browse to the apk on the SD card and click it to install. Then run the playstore and you are done.
Another option is using whatever Internet browser that is on the phone and Google the same thing and download it through the phone (don't worry about data charges the apk is quite small) once downloaded run it by clicking it and install it. The start up the Google playstore as usual.

And so copied the file on the phone (using the usb cable), still to no avail. It won't load. The phone doesn't even have a file browser 'per se', though I managed to find somehow which might resemble it via the 'search' function. My guess then is, that's not an Android at all? How can I get the technical spec now? :\
I'm uploading two attachments. First is the error that it shows when trying to load up that file you told me to upload, and the second one is the folders structure on this memory card (the one that has 4 GiB). Is any of this telling us anything? Thanks.
Sorry pal... I don't think that is android at all. What android version was written on the packaging?

It doesn't say anything about Android at all. It claims it's a legit iPhone 5. Though obviously it ain't.
Is there anything else I can do to get to the spec?
Let me check on Google and see what I can find. But if it isn't android... It might be a bit hard to find out but I will try my best.

The only references to Android that I found were those on basically every single website that offers or mentions Chinese iPhone clones. There's nothing at all on the phone itself :/. As I said, it claims it's a legit iPhone 5.

Maybe its off topic but if i were you i would throw out this sh*t and then i would buy galaxy s1 for example...they are really cheap now...after that you could root it and then flash miui rom...(these roms are very similiar to ios).
Also if they could somehow hack internal memory amount to show 64gb they could hack other hardware info so it may show for example snapdragon 800 while its chinese no name
Still, that does not solve the problem at all. If I wanted to throw those away, that is just sell them, I'd still need to know what it is that I'm selling. You can't run a successful businesses on a market that you know nothing about and neither you can successfully sell a product if you don't even know its technical spec. This whole thing is giving me a headache already :\.

I've seen these before. This phone basically is a sciphone with a iphone 5 design. It runs on Java not android.
Android MTK phones would have just the stock android phone (I.E. W008+)
Goophone I5 has stock android ontop of a skin and only runs on android 4 (There is a update for 4.1)
This however is Java ontop of a skin because of the font, and it looks like the sciphone os. The settings are identical to a sciphone too.
Just to add to this, all mediatek phones (Chinese clones) come pre-rooted, MTK6515 is really slow, It wouldn't even run angry birds. Also when you turn on your phone does it turn on with a android logo (like the w008) if so then there should be a test mode by holding volume up and power or volume down and power when the logo shows up. But I doubt it's android and wouldn't have this feature. Also to test if it's android, when you turned on your phone for the first time did you go through setup? If so you should have had added a google account (They come with the play store preinstalled but runs at a older version) ?
Thank you for your reply. It makes things more clear yet.

The answer for all this is: no. I've never stumbled upon the Android logo when using those, none of those tests would run and they have never asked me for google acc, neither there's anything on their menus where I could put any google acc name to. I simply assumed they were Android based phones, as all the iPhone clones that I had seen on the Internet were said to run on Android.
If they are 'sciphones', as you said and they run on Java, how do I get the technical spec? What I need will be the chipset name, memory information (RAM), screen resolution, WiFi standards it supports, etc. If I'm ever to get rid of them, knowing that is a must. I simply don't wanna cheat anyone, just state clearly what it is that I have to sell.

Well, I was developing for the w008. I couldn't get round to a ROM with no kernel sources available and the device was abandoned to hardware today. I cant really say how to get the datasets really.. All I know is that it could also be a clone of a "sciphone" and have a different dataset to that.
Just a suggestion if it runs on java, it can run java apps meaning you could find a java app for system information. Not sure if there's one out but it would be worth a try. But then again I think it reads the settings of a file (like a bulid.prop) so then again it would give the same information as settings.
Don't know what to say really.

Hi,
This product description sounds familiar. The Chinese manufacturer's product description is usually very vague and ambigious, for example, a "tablet" (computer) can be described as a "pill" (computer) because the Chinese word is the same for tablet and pill (medicine-wise). So, here is how I would interprete the product description:
Airphone i5 Smart Phone MTK6515 Android 2.3 OS IOS Menu Original Size i5 Wifi"
Airphone i5 - Airphone, the brand and i5, the model
Smart Phone - usually means it comes with a large touch-screen (not a feature phone)
MTK6515 - the processor
Android 2.3 OS IOS Menu - it has some menus that looks like Android 2.3 and some menus that look like IOS
Original Size i5 - the phone hardware has the same form-factor as i5.
Wifi - comes with addditional Wifi connectivity (if without the word "Wifi" expect no Wifi)
I am sure if we were to scour the Chinese websites we will find many more such (seemingly deceiving) descriptions.

This would be frickin sweet but I would think that if anything were to keep us from having this, it would be the stupid locked bootloader. If our phones could do this, I'd for sure be buying a dock.
Thanks for the video link, I hadn't seen that yet. Extremely cool. (And yeah, extremely impossible given our bootloader situation.)
From what I get from the video, it seems like when you dock it to your Ubuntu computer, your android stuff is integrated into it. Or is there no computer needed? And if you dock it to an HD TV, you get pretty much an Ubuntu styled media center? Am I right? And I'm guessing this is just the beginning stages of it that not just anyone can get right now?
EDIT: Answered my own question on how it works. Read this on the website:
"Ubuntu for Android requires minimal custom hardware enablement, allowing fast and cost-efficient core integration. It requires a core based on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or any subsequent version.
Ubuntu and Android share the same kernel. When docked, the Ubuntu OS boots and runs concurrently with Android. This allows both mobile and desktop functionality to co-exist in different runtimes.
Shared services and applications are delivered using a Convergence API module which ensures the tight integration between desktop and mobile environments. Work is balanced across the cores of the phone. When the handset is not docked, both CPU cores transfer their full power to Android."
Requirements:
1. Dual-core 1GHz CPU
2. Video acceleration: shared kernel driver with associated X driver; Open GL, ES/EGL
3. Storage: 2GB for OS disk image
4. HDMI: video out with secondary frame buffer device
5. USB host mode
6. 512 MB RAM
I think number two is OUR only problem.
EDIT #2: And I guess they are advertising this for Handset makers or network operators. So I guess its not something we can just download and install ourselves.
I got around to getting in touch with the people at Ubuntu. I will await their reply and post what I get. Hopefully it will be some good news. I really want this!!!

By the way....a better video on this. Still AWESOME!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deT1LSCuI_Y
Update: At about 10:45 in the video, we kind of get what they are trying to do. They want to direct it towards device manufacturers to integrate it into future phones. He mentions one day maybe it will be able to be installed by "home users" but I dont think thats where its being pushed towards. The good thing is that they are working with Motorola. Maybe this is part of Google purchasing Motorola. But this whole thing seems to be still up in the air. I really hope we see this one day on the Droid X2.
And if anyone is interested, this is the response I got from the Ubuntu Team:
Thank you for your interest in Ubuntu for Android. We are still in the early stages of development, but industry reaction so far has been incredible.
Right now, we’re working with hardware manufacturers and mobile operators to bring the product to market. If you’d like to follow our progerss, the easiest ways to do this are:
Join the discussions in #ubuntu on Freenode (irc).
Check the Ubuntu web pages for more updates.
Follow @Canonical on Twitter for the latest news.
Thanks again!
Yours sincerely,
The Ubuntu team
Cool, I really hope they're not blowing smoke about manufacturer interest.
History shows OEMs are more interested in "differentiation" than user experience. So the pessimistic side of me thinks we'll see more **** implementations of the concept (like Moto WebTop) and less OEMs embracing the awesome openness of Ubuntu.
Hi I was wondering if anybody else has this Matrix One Tablet its only 60 buck witth a 1.5 ghz single core cpu and 4 gb storage http://mtxone.com/products/matrixone
I got one
I just got the Matrix one7, they put it on sale for $60 as well after the old one sold out. Looks like mostly the same specs except more onboard storage. Hopefully we'll see a bit of development for it on here.
Just got mine in yesterday. Gotta say it doesn't suck. It's a good basic tablet, and that's coming from someone who's never seen the point of a tablet lol. From talking with someone in the company it's apparently sold far better then they were ready for so hopefully someone a bit more code savvy and with more time on their hands then me bought it and will do some developing for it.
I just got the Matrix One, and I am considering the Matrix One7 at the discounted price except it doesn't have HDMI out, plus the CPU and camera seem to be a downgrade. I noticed in the build.prop its model is A10_MID and device name is crane_q7, google search doesn't bring anything comparable up. What would the devs need to build for this tablet?
The tablet comes rooted out of the box so all a dev would need is source code and the kernel from the tablet but since its running vanilla Android 4.0 it should be easy I think, mines should come Thursday!!!

Getting mine tomorrow! CAN'T WAIT!!
Matrix One Unstable
I got mine yesterday. Was able to load the Play Store and some apps. However, after some use, it decided to randomly reboot. I performed a Factory Data reset and just got it connected to the internet, started up Skype, made a Skype video call connection and it rebooted after a few minutes. Think I have a hardware problem? Seems the network connection is unstable.
Also, where is development for this going to land? What should I be browsing on XDA?
Thanks!
I'm having problems too after more use. It seems to overheat and freeze, especially when charging. If I fully charge then use unplugged, it's OK but when on while charging, it hangs.
Secondly, it really only has 384MB RAM available, which is tight. I was getting a lot of freezing while using. I went into Developer options and restricted to 3-4 background processes and it solved that problem but it's still relatively sluggish.
This feels more like a prototype device. Is OK if you want to use for e-reading, streaming music or occasional browsing but don't expect full tablet experience.
I got mine today and after minimal use here are my comments:
My unit is labeled as the Matrix One and looks like the picture on the website. With that being said, it does not match the specs, mostly in my favor. 1. It has 1GB RAM, 2. It came shipped with 16GB and three it seems to only have a 1GHz processor.
I find the unit to be lagging with the responsiveness when I press the screen.
It gets a little warm but not anything to mention.
The webcam is real nice and the picture is very clear.
The website says "Micro USB" when in reality it is "Mini USB".
The one thing that does bug me a bit is that not all the apps are compatible with this tablet. It is running Android 4.0.3 so most should be compatible and I am not sure why it is not.
Over all I have no real impression yet but I also keep in mind that it was only $60.
^Nice, they apparently just shipped the wrong item.
I'm disappointed that it comes with mini usb when the specs say micro usb. But even more disappointing is it can't be charged via USB. It needs a wall charger.
I had low expectations of the display but in some ways I like it better than my Nexus 7, which has a glossy reflection. The touch screen isn't as responsive but is not bad when adjusting to it.
I spoke with tech support and they said they were getting rid of inventory and it was a crap shoot as to whether or not you got an S branded one which is what they gave me.
they also said this was an MID A10 compatible device and there are some CM10 build out there which would work on this.
I am trying to track those down now.
Just got mine today. First thing I can say is don't put the free case on the white one. It has already put black marks across the back of mine that don't wipe off.
Downloading and installing apps is pretty slow. It does get quite warm, but no locking up yet. The wifi connection doesn't seem all that stable.
But for $60, my kids can beat it all to hell and spare my phones and other tablets.
I wouldn't be opposed to buying one of their higher end products.

You can clear up alot of the lag by bumping up the memory settings with apps like rom toolbox or autokiller
swapper is another good app for it, a swap file really helps with the lack of memory
Really had to start tweaking things to get it running smoothly, changed the cpu governor, upped the memory levels, and changed to holo launcher for the home screen.
One issue I have is mine reboots when I try raising the cpu speed above 1152mhz even though the max is supposed to be 1.5ghz, it's set at 1008mhz by default. Though with my settings it all of butter right now
Edit: So mine froze up while watching a video online, rebooted it and it said the encryption was corrupted and it had to factory reset
I never turned on the encryption

Probably yes because nexus devices are source devices and porting them different operating systems are much easier than other oem phones.

I imagine someone could MAYBE...edit that requirement? If it was a simple enough check and installation, but it takes that much for the system itself, then nevermind. I imagine, however, that someone will get it working with a simple browser and some office apps (so a stripped version that might boot?).

You misunderstood Ubuntu isn't trying to say that you need at least 32gb of storage to install ubuntu. The future high-end ubuntu pre-installed phones will be at provide at least 32gb and the entry-level ubuntu pre-installed phones will be at least 4-8gb.
As you can see it says "Operator and OEM partners"
And If you read the rest of the page you'll see those informations are for manufacturers and operators.
And no operation system except windows has such thing(there may be an another one, but who cares). Mac OS 10.7 is same on every mac. AOSP 4.1 is same on every android. iOS 6 is almost same on every supported device except Apple's marketing cuts

Thank you SO much for clearing that up, I was beginning to get anxious with thoughts like "my Nexus 4 is already so obsolete that it can't run a recently made mobile OS?!" which really troubled me and I'd love to see Ubuntu Mobile on the Nexus 4 - after all Galaxy Nexus users can't have ALL the fun
For the record, I wasn't saying that Ubuntu couldn't be installed on the Nexus 4. The way I had read it, there were two editions of Ubuntu Mobile: one with desktop docking mode and one without, the former having steeper system requirements. I was saying that Ubuntu could still be installed on the Nexus 4, but only with the edition that lacked desktop docking mode.
Hopefully leventccc is correct and those are guidelines for what future phones will have, rather than the minimum system requirements of the OS. That's probably right, considering Ubuntu on the PC only needs 5GB of storage.
Do you think we'll be able to easily dual boot JB/Ubuntu or will we have to pick one over the other. I could live with 8gb Android / 8gb Ubuntu partitions. However if Ubuntu requires too much space that'd be a tight squeeze.

If my nexus 7 can do it with ubuntu (not even mobile), n4 can do it too.
Here
Even though the "Nexus" thing is a huge point, my gut says that we MIGHT not get Ubuntu unlike G-Nex. Ubuntu might have been working on this before the Nexus 4 would have launched and so used the Galaxy Nexus as it would be cheap + open. Now that the Nexus 4 is out but as hard as hell to get it and then make the OS work on it from scratch would be pretty hard. Thus I fell we might not get it. But I hope that this is wrong.
Well one day to go before the major Ubuntu announcements at CES.

There will most definately not be an official image for the Nexus 4 in the coming months. Why should Cannonical waste resources on porting Ubuntu OS to other phones when the OS isn't even feature complete. They want to get an image out so people can start testing and develop apps for it. The Galaxy Nexus is dirt cheap, most developers have a GNexus anyway. So if they do that, they reached their goal.
It's not like they are trying to gain market share by getting the 2% of Android Users who root their phones to install Ubuntu Phone OS on their device. They won't come very far this way. The main path to the market is through handset manufactures and Ubuntu Phones in stores.
The image you will get for you Nexus 4 at some point will be community driven.

You'd be surprised how many smartphone users don't even know what Android is. They think they are buying "A Droid" like it is a piece of hardware. The "warrenty issue" will put most people off and given that they don't really benefit from having a rooted phone they simply will not do it. The people on XDA aren' t by any strech of the imagination remotely representative of the normal Android user.
There are only 3.7 million installs of Cyanogenmod (http://stats.cyanogenmod.com/) and the DAILY activation rate of Android phones is somewhere between 700.000 and 900.000
http://www.informationweek.com/mobi...id-reaches-900000-daily-activations/240001809 based on that you can estimate that there are over 250 million devices being used right now. http://www.asymco.com/2011/12/21/how-many-android-phones-have-been-activated/
Now let's just double or even triple the number of installations of the most popular android rom by far to account of other rooted Android devices and put that in perspective... Still think it' s going to be some two digit number?
Most people don't want hack own phones. They want only daily use. Calls, browsing, social networks, email, games, music etc. Somebody know at ubuntu will work wifi adapter at the monitor mode? For sniffering wifi traffics

That pretty much depends on the wifi driver in use.

I would've at least thought 15 percent, and CyanogenMod example is not a good one considering a lot Devices don't have CM. With my Evo 3D I never really got much of CM action. Just my two cents.

CyanogenMod is the most popular rom by far.
Compare the number of downloads of CM to any other ROM.
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
There isn't any other ROM that has downloads that are in the millions.
MIUI and AOKP are doing OK but the rest is just not worth mentioning.
Not even on the PC, where it is much easier and pretty much riskfree, people bother to change their OS.
Otherwise the Linux Desktop marketshare wouldn't be about 2-5%.
The average consumer simply uses what he gets from the store.
Hey everyone,
I came into possession of this chinese Android smartphone built to mimic the Samsung Galaxy Note II (it looks like a pretty decent rendition actually) and I wanted to see what could be done with it.
The device claims to be running Android 4.1.1 but it's a blatant lie as evidenced by the total lack of the Holo Theme and other telltale signs, unfortunately every single app both on device and on the desktop seems to be fooled by this, the closest I got to it spilling the beans was a "API Level 10" which would place it around Android 2.3 if I'm not mistaken. In fact, the diagnostics screen claims this to be MocorDroid2.3.5.
The phone itself calls itself GT-T7100, and ADB names it mt_gt_t7100, under Software Version I see MT6577-TC611-EN-2PIN-V04, I assume MT6577 refers to that one motherboard that seems to be found in many of these devices, and plugging it on the computer reveals its USB device name to be "Spreadtrum Phone", the vendor id is 0x1782
Using all these clues I was able to identify him as this little guy here
www (dot) szrming (dot) com (slash) en (slash) Products (slash) T7100 (dot) html (can't post links)
Which seems to be a variant of the much more popular N/H7100 where the jokers were like "Let's reduce the onboard RAM to 256MB" so yeah, pretty painful. It takes like two apps to slow this thing down to a crawl.
I wanted to maybe upgraded it to a newer version of Android or at least root it so I can get rid of some stock apps that are always running and eating away the limited RAM, so I tried looking around but none of the "one-click" rooting methods seem to work, not even those designed to work for that version of Android.
I have found that one guide that claims to work for all phones using the SC6820 processor but I kinda stopped there because I need to flash it and I'm not sure I can correctly identify the ROM since I'm not even 100% sure it's the T7100 I found there.
I'm posting this in the hopes that somebody has the same model or knows enough about ROMs to tell me if there's some kind of "generic" one that could work with this particular phone considering the chipset it's using
Thanks in advance
Hello there
Few weeks ago, I finally got my chinese tablet. After seconds of using the default launcher, I tough that the hardware specifications can't be real.
About in System Settings shows the fake specs. If I use Droid Inspector or similar apps, the real specs are unveiled :crying: Except anTuTu shows the pre-saved wrong specs
Do someone know, which system file is responsible to show and store the hardware specifications? Is there a way to verify that?
Currently, i'm in fight with the seller, thats why I don't post screenshot for this moment...
Using Android 4.4.3, root available. Maybe search a spefic string with LogCat? :highfive:
thanks thanks :good:
