Extremely slow charging with CM9 and new kernel - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed the new Nukern3l on CM9. Ever since then it take forever for my phone to charge. It will actually lose its charge if I have it plugged in and I'm using it. Last night I plugged it in and had utorrent running when I went to bed, it was at 10% when I fell asleep and after 9 hours it was at 32%. I've tried different governors and it doesn't seem to affect it. Any suggestions?

You could try using the kernel I made that has fast charge enabled. If you're overclocked though that may be what is making it charge slow. To enable fast charge in my kernel you need to use incredicontrol to turn it on.

You could also try disabling wifi and data. You will still receive texts as they aren't sent over data but you won't get MMS until data is re-enabled but the phone should charge really fast. To me it sounds like you've got something running in the background draining the battery.

He did say he was downloading using utorrent. That coupled with oc would make it charge slow.

Do you have a link to your kernel with the fast charge?

I didn't really think much about that but, yeah the constant use of radio will pretty much hog juice while the phone is trying to charge. Not much you can really do about that though.

Phone not reaching 100% while charging

Ok its me aging hopefully this hasn't been posted either cuz I haven't came across it....but anyway today I decided to calibrate my battery let it die out and charge while the phone is off...and this was around 5pm....I fell asleep and it is now midnight and its still charging and I know stock batteries don't need a lot of time to charge unlike extended batteries.....has anyone else come across this or does this phone need 7hrs plus of charging??

There is no need to calibrate the battery. When the phone reaches 99% charge capacity, it will take a while for it to achieve 100%. Once it achieves 100%, it will let the battery drop back down to 95% then it will begin charging back to 100%. It is a repeated process. It will keep doing this until the phone is removed from the charger.

Once you disconnect, your battery drops from 90 to 70 in a matter of minutes?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
If that is the case, I would say bad battery. BUT I do remember reading that there were some Evo 3D's that suffered from the same problem, and they were also getting extremely hot. If that is the case, I suggest exchanging.

It was normal as no issues that I've noticed but this was the first time I charged the phone being off also and I doubt an app wouldn't cause this specially when the phone is off so therefore nothing running

Let the phone die down to 15%, then charge it. If it drops significantly again, then we may have a problem. It could be a bad battery or an app you must have downloaded.

A smart phone is like a pocket sized computer. There can be malicious apps that can harm the phone. But if that isn't the case, I suggest hard resetting. If that still doesn't work, replace.
Edit: Try my other solutions first.

I personally had strange battery problems the first week I had the phone, and after that my battery life became quite good (I did the battery calibration technique from the og evo and it helped a lot also).
So if you're saying it's strange after a couple days I'd say give it a chance to go through a couple more charge cycles. I'd bet the issues will sort themselves out.

Post Your Battery Stats

With all these news leaks and roms available now it would be nice to know what people get for battery life across the different leaks and roms.
Post a pic of your battery usage and screen on time and what your using to get it
My setup is in my signature
These are the first stats since i started trying anthrax and it was all going good till the second day. i have no clue why
there are a few reasons why i created a new thread:
1.most people werent posting pic but instead just stats
2.the thread was ancient, created in november and the last post was in
late january, bumped in feb by a trolling gnex user

I used incredicontrol to undervolt everything by 50 or 75 in incredicontrol. Using stock freqs, and ondemand governor. And used danuntzz's tool to do most of the desensing/debloating.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382630
I also used Romtoolbox's auto start manager to keep things from opening in the background, it's probably the most helpful app I've used. Thanks next I just need the mugen 4000mAh so I'd only need to charge it on the weekends, but that thing is really expensive for a battery.
I thought these were pretty good numbers for locked and stock.

I need to figure out what's wrong with mine. I'm getting results like this with the extended VZ battery. I have to keep it plugged in all the time. Even with 4G disabled (3G still on), no wifi, no bluetooth; most days it will be dead in 8-10 hours.
Currently running 5/1 leak radios (RUU'd last week), running BAMF ICS 2.1 with the kernel that came with the Rom (1512mhz max, 384mhz min). Most syncing besides gmail is disabled.
I'll get a pic whenever i go unplugged again. I'm working remotely this week and am keeping it plugged up during conference calls.

I have used DSC all be it only up to 1.4 and Longhorn in the past. I found that although both are stable for most uses using GPS seems to push the limits and I had random reboots with both. Battery life wasn't that great either. I have now gone back to olleh 407 stock with ZEAM launcher and have not had a single reboot and the battery life is much much better. This is just my findings. Also for everyday use there is really nothing to be gained from any of the custom roms that I can see.

What's a good Rom with very good battery life and good performance?

You need a real charger. Not a micro usb. Either that or you need a new battery. Roms are not the cause of bad battery.

Get a new battery first let it calibrate itself after a few recharge decharge cycles and then report back. The amaze has some bad batteries that HTC will replace and or T-Mobile also.

Unpredictable battery life

I got this phone used so I'm not sure if there's something wrong with it or not. My phones battery is completely unpredictable, first off, it won't charge to 100%, the highest it goes is 95%. Next, it discharges extremely quickly. The charged % on the lock screen and the % in the notification bar are close to each other, but rarely ever the same (this includes the % displayed in my recovery too). Today my phone was at 19% when it died, so i plugged it up and when it came back on i had 9%, i rebooted once more. This time i had 57%! I mean no matter what i do its never consistent. Can someone recommend a rom+kernel combo to fix or test this? I've tried wiping the battery stats and it doesn't help.
Thanks.

That could happen if your battery is aged or it has overheated at some point so one of it's cells doesn't do it's job as it should.
