[Q] Please advise on SG2 (T-Mobile) rooting - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi -
I am sorry if this question bothers some ... but I have looked around (searched) for a day or 2 and learning the do's and don'ts
of Rooting / Installing Recovery / Flashing ROM's for This phone (my 5th Android phone). I am pretty familiar with rooting and
running custom recoveries flashing roms and kernels and even a little coding (very little) on many phones and tabs over the past
couple years. But this is a new phone ( well new for me ... old for everyone elses haha ) . I have used the search forum button,
but with this phone in particular (T-Mobile Version) it takes me to hundreds of different results.....
What I am asking for is ANY HELP AT ALL. Be it a reply or a link or just a push into the correct thread. Like I said, I want to
Install a recovery (either CWM or TWRP )
Root the phone
Start flashing custom ROMS and Kernels
I see some program called "Odin" but I have never used a PC app to root my stuff in the past ... so yeah I am confused
Lastly....what is throwing me OFF is my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S II, but it is the T-Mobile version, so it does not have the home key,
and I can't even figure out how to get into recovery without that.
PLEASE Help me .... Here is exactly what I got. ( See pictures bellow )
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S II ( T-MOBILE VERSION )
MODEL: SGH-T989
STOCK [JB] 4.0.4
Network: T-Mobile
SIM Card: Apx 2 year's old
SD-Card: 32 Gig's

Currently I am running a heavily modded MIUI on a T-Mobile LG G2x P999 and I run Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC.
*Note* I DO NOT CARE if I lose anything that is currently on the phone.
Thank you for at the very lest reading this far !! I ramble on a lot I know Looking forward to some helpful replies :good:

[Q] 3 UK White Galaxy S 2 root

I have just started to use android. Galaxy S 2 is my 1st ever android device gifted by my wife on our 2nd anniversary. Even though it was bought in Lahore, Pakistan; it is 3 mobile UK branded gs2. I was about to root it watching this video: youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=KNVE0UDe-bQ
I realized that since this is branded and I cant even update it (which could mean that it is locked), I may not be able to root the device following this video. Also, I am confused since my device's build number and kernel number are pretty different (screen shot attached).
Can someone guide me easy to follow exact steps to root this device safely? If I mess up, my wife will use the brick on me .
What software would I want?
Where will I download the software from?
Where will I get the insecure kernel from?
I so want to use WIFIKILL at office

There is only one issue here.. I do not know what the ODS is as I am new here. It would be nice of you, if you would guide me with links?
You can remove network lock AFTER rooting. You can root using cfroot but ChainFire has only released cfroot for stock firmware not branded 3 firmware so you will need to flash to stock firmware, root, rhen use the network unlonk in the market. I found the CF one didnt work but the other one in the market works.
After you have done this then you can use ClockWorkMod (added with cfroot) to flash the gtalk with video.
There is alot to learn...

can root i9100G not? coz i having a problem on it
Thanks Rajesh. Let me show you the crap apps I am dealing with. The guide you are have referred to; will it work for my branded GS2?
I have another question. Can I de brand the device and get rid of all these apps without rooting it? I will not be able to use wifikill, but then if this is more complicated then rooting a non branded S2; I guess I will have to live with this! HATE IT!
Phone is now rooted!!!
Thank you everyone! My phone is now rooted and I am all set!

[Q] is the new version update geared to revoke root access?

I bought a brand new photon 4g and upon activating it.. I made the mistake of accepting the OTA 45.3.6 because now, despite all my efforts to root the device using AIO's, torpedo method, and even using the relatively new method that apparently works well with the Photon
@ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235376
Im about ready to give up. Ive had plenty of experience rooting and flashing my HTC Hero CDMA and Samsung Epic however, i was not expecting this.
It seems the main problem with the AIO's is that they are outdated and I am only receiving error messages upon clicking the batch file (yes i have debugging while USB on)
If anybody could help me or give me an alternative rooting method I would be greatful. Would unlocking the bootloader before trying to root make a difference? Again any help would be super appreciated because I've ready the forums and used TFSE and im still coming up stock.
So I'm really new to the Photon too (came from an Evo4G), and had updated to the latest OTA as well. I just rooted using this method, it worked great:
[ROOT] Photon Torpedo, dockless root access
More specifically, I followed the directions here. Note: I did get an error message near the end of that process, but just kept going, and it worked just fine.
I haven't unlocked the bootloader, so someone else will have to chime in for advice on that....
That worked! And I happened to find another set of directions that made things even easier:

[Q] Failed to Boot 2

/// NOTE - the phone this question is referencing to is NOT bricked or bootlooping. It works fine...however...
Hey Photon users! I'm new to the Motorola Photon (my cousin's phone) and I have recently just finished rooting his phone for him. Now as I am no stranger to rooting, I have an HTC T-Mobile G2 rooted and blinged out, I AM however new to the Motorola phones..specifically the photon. After tons of research and dead end tutorials (due to out-dated or dead links or methods) I am running into an issue to fix this "Failed to Boot 2" Issue. I made the mistake of assuming rooting it was in essence the same thing as unlocking the phone. After little research I found this to not be true. Now I am stuck with the dilemma of trying to find a working Unlock Method for a rooted Photon 4G. Does it matter that I rooted his phone first? Am I going to be able to unlock his phone for him? I'm simply trying to install a custom ROM for his rooted Photon, yet seem to not be able to have the ability to install zip files through the typical recovery method as this would be his only option for installing new ROMs on his own. If I missed a thread where this issue has already been addressed, I do sincerely apologize and would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. I've also uploaded a screenshot of his stats for reference. Thank-you in advance for any help that might come my way. I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and hope you all have an even better new year's eve!

You cannot unlock a photon running android version 2.3.5, sorry. Rooting and installing bootstrap recovery to flash locked roms is the best you can do. You'll have to look or ask around for that process since I've never done it - I avoided the 2.3.5 "update" like the plague. Best of luck.

Thanks for your suggestion...however I knew that windows 8 will make some nuissance...so rooted my phone using windows 7 on a virtual pc...however I have a entire different question for you where you can definitely help me understand the method of choosing a custom ROM, Kernel and Bootloader...could you please tell me how the cocktail for this different hardware/software works...I have read the entire description on different threads of what their job is and how they work...however I am still confused with how to mix a ROM, Kernel and a Bootloader..??
I have succesfully rooted my phone right now and would like to know about the next step!!
cyanogen mod roms and the roms based on cm requires unlocked bootloader ; unlocking bootloader will void ur warranty and u will loose drm keys forever

Hi guys. First post to the forum, been lurking for years, just registered.
I recently updated my phone with the update that Samsung kept bothering me about every 2 hours or so. And It has messed my phone up, it's slow, it drags. It doesn't even show the clock on my lock screen without thinking about it for about 10 seconds. Train wreck.
I've rooted, installed custom recovery, and loaded custom roms on my Galaxy S i9000 and on my grouper Nexus 7. I kinda get how all this works, I'm not a total newb, but with this phone I am at a dead end and i've tried everything I know, and a bunch more tricks I learned here and nothing is working.
My Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3: Canadian (Bell) version SGH-I747M, supposedly the same as the S3 AT&T,

I had to use zadig to replace my drivers for Heimdall
Heimdall will sucessfully flash clockwork recovery, but it refuses to install my CM rom. I haven't tried any other roms, but from what I've read in the forum here, it doesn't seem to matter what rom you use, it just wont do it.
I get Assert, bootloader errors when trying to install from zip in Clockwork Recovery. tried the fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41503727
and it does not work. Odin just says "FAILED" right away.
I thought maybe if I just rooted the phone first, I could at least flash a custom recovery and not have it over written everytime I boot.
I tried CF-AutoRoot, Odin says success, but nothing changes on my phone.
I tried OneClickRoot which worked wonders on my GS i9000 back in the day. No success.
I have tried CM Installer to do it automated, It says success, but no change.
People have reported that Knox may be the problem, but as far as I can tell I don't have it on my phone.
I've been working on this for a day and a half and all I've managed to do is factory reset my phone about 12 times. I need help.. I don't know what to do. Has anybody managed to root their phone or install a custom recovery or rom with a GS3 running 4.4?
