Hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out if these force-closes are due to my ROM, or because the new app is buggy. I tried Deck's 1.0 and now I'm on CleanROM 2.5. When you are in the new Facebook app, and you go to News Feed, there are three icons at the top of the screen. One for Photo, another for Status, and finally one for Check In. Every time I click Status, it instantly force-closes. I have reinstalled the app several times, and the error persists across different ROMs.
I am not ruling out that some other app could be conflicting, or even a system setting--that's why I'm asking if any of you are seeing the same problem.
I even get a force-close if I am on the Main Menu for the new Facebook app, and I click on the text bubble at the top that represents a new status update. All that button appears to do is open the News Feed and hit the Status button, (it goes through both steps, then crashes again.)
I would probably be a much more productive person if this app were to never work again though
Try to fix permissions thru your recovery or rom manager. Or just move to google+

How would permissions cause the app to crash? It's not asking for root, so I guess I don't understand all that.

If you restored any kind of data for that app previously, you probably have some conflicting issues in a data folder for facebook. Hence the force closing. Two separate data issues trying to tell each other what to provide when you click on a certain part.
Edit: Actually, you wouldn't even have to restore anything to have conflict. That data info would still be there.

If I install a ROM and don't restore FB using TB, I shoudn't have any old files, right? I use superwipe, then do a wipe cache/dalvik/factory reset from within recovery.. then flash the new ROM. Some day to wipe the caches again, then flash the same ROM again... I tried this and it did no good. I don't see why that would do anything anyways.

When you guys say permissions, are you talking about filesystem permissions on that specific file? If the file has the wrong permissions, how would it work at all?

Those files are saved on your sd card. So when you wipe everything, that is wiping everything on your phones memory. It doesn't touch the data and files saved on your sd. That is where it is read from.

Thanks! I also ended up fixing the issue... I was also having problems with sending Gmail messages... they would say 'sending' indefinitely, and never actually get pushed out.
I went into Applications and cleared the data for both apps, and reconfigured them from scratch, and everything works great now... this is very bizarre...
I don't move apps to SD, and I didn't use TB to restore... that's definitely going to be my first action from now on when an application acts up though.
The app never posts statuses for me at all. Stopped using it for now.
First of all sorry for my bad language
I've a Lg 2x (Aka Optimus Dual) temasek's UNOFFICIAL BUILD, now i saw an update from temasek. I'm asking how i can install the new room file as a simple update without losing any app/contact etc.
Well if it's possible what's the correct way to do an update of a custom Rom ?
Very thanks,
Sorry for the question but i've googled and nothing, also searched here but nothing
if its a update of the same build jus erase cache and dalvik cache and install the rom. then ur data remains untouched. but if the rom is different u need to full wipe. data will be lost. but u can sync contacts to gmail and retrieve back any time.

What does errase cache and dalvik cache do? Does the settings stay the same or do you have to set them again when you update? If it delets settings...can you update without errasing cache?
Nope...clearing cache and dalvik cache only wipes unimportant info...your settings will be there as long as you don't press factory reset...

exactly. but look for the requirements for the update. sometimes even updates may require data wipe if the dev states it.

All the above is good and true. I'd like to add that I always make a ROM backup with ROM Manager before I update my ROM. That way, if something should go wrong, I can get back to where I was before the update.

Dude you could just install Titanium Backup from the play store and back up all the apps and data you want to. And yeah, your device needs to be rooted. Cheers.
I recently installed Ultimatun 2.2 Ron trying to look at a Rom to help me to improve the battery issue.
The detail scope todate is the GOOGLE PLAY is not connected anyway. I tested reinstalled the .apk and still dead. Any suggestion??

The devs will always say do a full wipe and then see if you are still having the issue. I would say try flashing the gapps again and if that doesn't work then do the full wipe.

I'm not sure but ultimatum doesn't require u to flash gapps does it? Maybe it does I haven't used it. Usually problems like this are fixed by creating the data for the app by going into your apps and clearing data on market and Google framework. Good luck.

Did you do a factory wipe before flashing?
If you're having problems with Google Play, reboot in recovery and wipe cache & dalvik cache. If it still persists, go to Apps settings and wipe data from Google Play and Google Framework and reboot. If it still persists, contact the dev.
It is to my understanding that the rom you're running is under Sammy FW so flashing gapps is unnecessary. If the problem persists, go ask in the rom's thread.

Lol did you think when I said it he didn't hear me or what?I feel less important to the world. Lol
So anytime I flash a new rom I keep getting the same bookmarks I've already deleted, but they seem to come back for some reason. I've used root explorer to look wrought my device but can't seem to find anything related, it must be a folder that I can go in and remove permanently. Anyone know of a solution? Only happens when I flash a rom, just flashed back to stock and bookmarks I previously removed are gone makes no sense. Thanks

It makes some sense, as the emmc (internal storage card) retains all files previously flashed to the device, or downloaded.
With the exception of (android /secure , dalvik, cache , system , and other files that are deleted by using the recovery during a wipe.
The rest of the files, including data, remain on the emmc partition of the internal storage.
The method by which you wipe the device is very important . And just as important, is any type of data restore you perform after flashing a new rom .
Most developers clearly state a "FULL " wipe when coming from any other rom, and full includes the following :
Wiping data
Wiping cache
Wiping dalvik cache
Wiping system. (Bear in mind that many new roms clean the system partition for you while the flash process loads the new rom )
Based on the above method, the device is rendered "clean "
But even then , data from previous builds "does " remain on the device in the emmc partition.
Book marks being left over is a pretty basic leftover, and can likely be found in an internal folder named " thumbnails ", or "bookmarks " etc. And it can be deleted with a long press of the file and the problem is gone.
If you have no obvious folders showing these bookmarks , then a more complete wipe is needed.
My method for this is very simple, and is performed prior to flashing the new rom. I simply go into recovery (I only use the recovery to flash, never rom manager etc) and I format the emmc partition in the advanced menu.
WARNING !!!
Formatting the emmc partition "will " erase all data from your device ...
So any valuable files , pictures , hot chicks phone numbers etc ...will be gone.
To save this data, simply copy/paste it to your external storage prior to wiping and flashing, and you can move it back once your new build is up and running ....
Sorry for the long reply, but I hope this helps you, and other users to perhaps better understand the flash method, and what causes these little hickups of data always coming back ....g

Appreciate the response but yes I always do a wipe data/factory reset, followed by wipe cache partition and than wipe delvick cache. So you're saying format/system in advance menu of CWM should fix the issue? Thanks

No...
It's a format of the emmc partition in the advanced recovery menu..
It effectively wipes "everything " from the internal area of the device. And eliminates all transient data from the phone.
But remember, to "move " any files of value ....or their toast ...LOL
It's very useful if coming from say ....a gingerbread rom to jelly bean. And you can imagine what happens if you mix the two ...g

Well ....
Not that I know of ....
But not allowing the device to sync is a drag ....
If I remember correctly ....another user some time ago ....went to their Google account and shut down the sync option for the browser , but left the contacts and other stuff on ...
If you have a stock type rom using the stock browser ...you can kill just the browser sync option and the other sync stuff can still be used.
I'm sure several other roms are capable of this also ...but rooted stock builds for sure ...g

There has to be a way to perm remove those saved bookmarks though without having to disable sync, just makes no sense why Google would backup those bookmarks smfh.

Is anyone having issues with VZW's VVM while running ViperDNA 1.3.0? There is no VVM tab in my messaging app, but there is a icon for it in the app drawer. I tried to re-installed it from the Play Store, and keep getting an error message saying that it's not needed because I have built in VVM. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it to work?
Or, if anyone knows of another VVM service that will allow me to export the message as an mp3 file, I'm open to suggestions.

I use VVM on Viper 1.3. It shows up on the messaging tab for me. I would probably try to dirty flash the ROM. Remember when you are in aroma, apps with checkmarks means you do not want them installed.

Would you mind telling ne how to dirty flash it? Would that erase everything that I already have? Also, how do I get to aroma? I'm sorry for the questions, but I've never flashed ROMs before, and am unsure of what to do.

Boot into recovery, make a backup just in case. Wipe cache and dalvic cache only. Install the ROM (without wiping system). Be meticulous when you're selecting apps to keep/delete. You will still have your apps and data once the install is complete and you reboot.
