I've looked at over 30 different posts on this site and other sites on this topic and tried several things, but nothing is working so I'm hoping someone can take this noob under their wing to try to walk me through restoring my Razr Maxx. Many of the posts I tried had broken links to files or other issues.
I rooted the phone but was unsuccessful in loading a bootloader. The phone goes to the "Encryption unsuccessful" screen on boot up. "Reset phone" does not work. I can get into AP Fastboot fine.
I installed the Google USB drivers and Moto drivers from the SDK. Downloaded and ran Motohelper.
Installed RSD Lite 5.7 but it does not recognize the phone, even when the phone is in Fastboot mode and plugged in via USB. The phone indicates "USB Connected" but RSD doesn't show the phone.
I downloaded VRZ_XT912_6.5.1-73_DHD-11_TA-3_1FF_02.xml.zip
I have no idea what to do now.
Please keep in mind, I'm a total noobie, so very explicit instructions would be a GREAT HELP! Links to other threads that don't really address my particular situation or that have old broken links will not really help.
Thanks!
John
Get into fastboot mode and use this utility: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...xt912-jellybean-windows-mac-linux-all-in-one/
Thanks for the link -- that worked!!

OK, I thought I had the Moto drivers installed, but apparently I did not. I installed the Motorola Device Manager and now my phone shows up in RSD Lite, but when I tried to flash a rom, I got this message: "Please check input file. Either XML format is wrong or image files associated with it are missing." I tried 3 different ROMs that supposedly work with this phone and got the same error. Any ideas?

My XT912 Razr bricked a while ago and I fixed it thanks to this program!
Download it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192467
This utility will restore your Razr.
NOTE: If your battery on your phone is dead, then you need to purchase a Motorola factory cable off ebay. They're relatively cheap. So after you charge it with the factory cable, you can then run the program and follow the instructions.
Hope this helped. Happy 4th

Ok, so after scanning through the SBF thread and a few others and finding instructions all over the place, I decided to bring them all together in one post. Sorry if I don’t mention everybody that contributed these instructions by name but there were a lot of instructions on how to flash the SBF to our phone. You know who you are and I personally thank you and believe everybody else does also.
To begin, download the necessary files and drivers:
Froyo 2.2.2 SBF File
Gingerbread 2.3.3 SBF File
Gingerbread 2.3.4 SBF File
RSD Lite 5.3.1 and Drivers
RSD Lite 5.4.4
1. Reboot your computer and your phone after downloading and installing everything and before you go to flash the SBF file. Use 7-zip to extract the SBF file...
2. Once you have rebooted your computer, go ahead and start RSD Lite and point it at the SBF file and plug your USB cable into your computer ONLY!
3. Turn your phone off.
4. Turn the phone on by pressing and holding the POWER AND VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see FASTBOOT. Press volume down until you reach RSD and press volume up once.
5. Plug your phone into your computer and wait until you see it in RSD Lite and click Start.
6. Your phone will reboot when the process is complete. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE FROM UNTIL THE COMPUTER UNTIL THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE.
7. If the phone boot loops pull the battery and boot into the stock recovery by pressing and holding power and volume down until the phone says FASTBOOT, once the phone says FASTBOOT, press volume down until you see ANDROID RECOVERY, once you see ANDROID RECOVERY, press BOTH the volume up and the volume down buttons. You will see the familiar triangle with the exclamation point and the Android. At this point press volume up and down simultaneously again and select “wipe data/factory data reset” by pressing the power button.
8. Reboot your phone and you should be back to full factory default, like new out of the box.
If you have any other problem with RSD Lite, try running it as administrator in Win 7/Vista...
Thank you, very helpful and thanks to everyone involved. Let's get this ball Rollin baby!

That is actually a great question Slowz3r.... I would love to know how to open that SBF, but I really have no clue... I will try and see if maybe I can open it in Linux. If anybody around here has any ideas or has already tried this, please let me know...
TIA
I have followed this guide to the letter, even to the point of redownloading both the SBF and the drivers a few times. Even after a reboot, when I plug my phone into the computer it says "Unable to retrieve initialization values from INI file"
I've tried it every day for the past 3 and to no avail, always same issue.
Edit: I did a clean uninstall and reinstall of everything, rebooted, and it worked. So I suppose it was an installation error of sorts.
Anyone else notice that to the right under platform it says 4G Tegra? Some also stated that their computer detected a 4G Modem when the phone was in a certain mode.

Yes, I have also seen this in the options before you get to rsd mode... Don't know what that means or why its labelled that way but it is definitely interesting... It would be great to find out what motorola might have to say about this and if that may be why we have been waiting so long for an update!!! I highly doubt it tho, but still nice to think about...

This happened to me also, i found out after two hours of forum searching, that you need 5.3 rsd lite, the one in the download worked for me, but maybe its your operating system, i had to use my xp computer because it would not work on my Win. 7 machine. Hope this helps.

It should work with Win 7 as that is what I am running... The link I have posted for rsd lite is 5.3... Maybe if you run rsd lite as admin??? I didn't have to but that might be a solution....
It Works!!
This is the first Sbf download that worked for me, i noticed that this one was over 700 mb in size. All the other ones were 482 mb. I guess those were just the partial Sbf. Thanks for this, i really needed it!
I had to do a factory reset of my phone the other day. I used RSD5.3.1 and the 482 mb SBF.
I bootlooped initially on the reboot but after doing a battery pull and then going into recovery, everything worked. I did get a couple settings wrong on setting up the phone but fortunately, there is a Verizon store very close by.
All the bloatware that TB had backed up up prior to me uninstalling came back. After the reload, I re-rooted but haven't uninstalled or frozen anything yet.

Phone is stuck on Moto Dual Core screen... and doing nothing... some please tell me i didnt mess this up.
Edit: Ok, i rebooted did the recovery thing and data wiped, got it working and now configuring the phone.. sorry for this post, was jus scared i guess >.<
When ever I try either the Fast boot android recovery, or Factory Reset from the Atrix [rooted W locked boot loader, stock gingerbread] it will reboot only to stop at Failed to Boot 2.
Removing the battery usually recovers the phone.
How to I get around th is problem, or do I have to take it back to AT&T for a swap out? [Or is that possible on a rooted phone?
Going in circles here other wise.
Thanks in advance.
I have a botched CWM install attempt and i am at the same screen whenever i turn on the phone. I am going to flash using RSD and see if that recovers it. Ill post once i find out.
Got tired of going in circles, found the OEM ATT stuff, used RSD lite, and installed the SBF
Now I'm back to normal, bloat and all.

I read the NooB guide here on XDA and there are links to get the needed files: RSD Lite, and the AT&T OEM Gingerbread & current firmware SBF file.
I pulled the battery to recover my phone, then fully charged it up.
Made sure it was in USB debug mode.
Then did the Hardware Reset again.
When it stopped at "failed to boot 2. starting rsd mode" I started RSD lite on my PC, Pointed it at the SBF file, and installed.
It took some time, maybe 5~12 minutes?
But it rebooted a few times and I was good to go.
To test it I did several hardware resets, All A Ok.
Peace here till they get Cyanogen stable

Here is what little I know:
Put the Atrix in USB debugging mode.
Connect the phone to the USB cable, and the PC.
Change the USB mode to none.
Click OK
Start RSDlite, then it should see your phone.
And if you have a None US AT&T phone you will need that providers OEM SBF file.
Next move for me is unlocking the boot loader.
I used Pete's Motorola Tools for rooting.
so i have searched quite a bit and have not found a similar issue. My main goal is to get my razar to the .173 build and maintain root. I was at .748 and wanted to flash back to stock (.744) to start from a "fresh starting point" after downloading the the most current version of rsdLITTE (5.6 anyways), the most current moto drivers, and the applicable sbf files. I tried flashing the fast boot files per the instructions that are available on various droid forums. My problem is RSD does not recognize my phone when my phone is in fastboot mode. When my phone is in normal ops. RSD see's my phone. If I start the flashing process RSD will say "switching the phone to fastboot mode" and I watch it physically see it happen on my phone (it switches to fastboot) after a period of time RSD says "phone failed to switch to fastboot". I asked around all over the place and no one has heard of this or had an idea of how to fix. So I ended up learning bit about ADB and found the files to manually (through command prompt) flash to744. I cant find the files to manually update to build .748 or .173. I tried to update via OTA to .748 several times all resulting in failures. Ive tried different downloads of the sbf files, rsdlite, and the moto drivers. I am running xp pro and tried two different machines and several different cables all of the combinations resulting in the same issues as described above when attempting to flash with RSD. From what I gather XDA is my best chance of resolving my anal cranium inversion so hopefully the brain trust here can shed some light on my problems..........please?
Note: Im quite positive this is not a usb cable problem as every other razr/pc interface works, i can transfer files, use pda, adb, charge my phone, etc........
Really......nothin huh? ugh
This must be where threads go to die.
and BEFORE do that, do you read at least 1 minute the DEV section ???....

Ugh....i cant post over there yet its not working properly for me i get a string of "example" is signed. Error.......theres a couple other people with the same issue. The really weitd thing is after trying a couple times it updated the radio but everything else still errored out. This phone has cause me headaches since day 1 and this is my second phone.
this place is a hot bed of info 0_o
Before some of you gets upset with me posting the same kind of question, please know that I looked at the forum everywhere plus some other forums and tried almost everything. Here's the summary.
I recently got Droid Razr Asia version and I upgraded to EU Retail rom n rooted it.
There was one problem that I noticed that only bluetooth was not working.
Checked online, and found out that it's the radio mismatch b/w EU and Asia version.
So I downloaded RAZRX rom and was trying to flash it again with bootstrap.
So the process started and in 10 seconds it failed.
So I tried to search other forums ...
at some place i found that ... after Hard Resetting, clearing catche; I am also supposed to format the system.
So I followed the whole procedure, and turns out that again it does not get FLASHED. So I downloaded the ASIA version again and tried to format. It did not work. I tried with EU version, it did not work.
So after getting tired, I tried with RSDLite to flash through PC.
That's when I found out that ...
It detects the phone ... but the phone has no EMEI, software version or any other details. Everything is n/a.
Still I tried, and it said "fastboot installation failed" or somethin like that.
And now my phone is stuck on red motorola logo.
I tried to power off and go to bootloader fastboot ...
and it says "Fastboot Locked ... Press power button to power down."
I tried with the DroidRazrUtility1.4 also ...
But it does not detect the phone.
I tried other few things I found online. But nothing worked.
I also drained the battery by keeping it aside to see if the fastboot gets unlocked, but it didn't work.
However, I haven't removed the battery yet. Cause I do not have the tools.
Please can somebody tell me step by step approach how to do this?
Because I haven't found out where I am going wrong in the given methods. and btw, I have followed everything exactly step by step.
Really appreciate any kind of help.
Thank you very much.
Try to flash with RSD Alternative

Probably not. I read on one of the forums there might be a way around the battery being low. I think it was here in xda. Do a search for fast boot install or battery, something like that. If you find that doesn't work you would have to make the tbh cable which allows power to the phone without a battery, or in your case a near dead battery.
Sent from my Droid Razr using Tapatalk
"Device is locked" is natural, (almost) all of our bootloaders are locked. Nothing to do with flashing official ROMs.
You'll need to make a factory cable if the battery is low, search the development forum for a guide.

I just joined xda a few days ago and I'm a NOOB at this. I switched from an HTC TBolt and I'm still learning how Motorola does things. I rooted my RAZR MAXX with the batman utility by mattlgroff about a month ago and used Titanium Backup to freeze/uninstall some bloatware. Little did I know at the time that the OTA does a system check before applying the update to check to see if the system crAPPS are still there. I would like to reset my phone back to factory, fresh out of the box with the batman utility but can't find the correct driver for the Fastboot CDMA_Spyder S. I choose option "1. Restore Droid RAZR to 6.12.173" and follow the instructions and get it into AP Fastboot Mode but I'm missing the appropriate drivers. It stays at the waiting for device stage.
I've searched around and tried to find them but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. If anyone could pass on a link or thread where the drivers can be found, I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks the drivers were what I needed as well.
Just for anyone looking for what the device manager should be showing, it should come up as "Mot Single ADB Interface". The normal Android ADB Interface wouldn't interact with RSD Lite.
If it says Device failed to start just unplug and replug your device.
