Okay I am having a really hard time trying to figure out how to change the dialer from sense to aosp. I heard that joelz made a flash able zip back in the day but I can't find it. I thought it would be as easy as swapping a few apk's in system/app but apparently that's not the case. Can anyone help? Running slimrom btw.

I'm not an expert but I dont think its possible because of sense and the framework resources. Or you'll have to do a lot more than just swapping a few apk's.

While personally not a fan of the AOSP dialer, I'm a huge fan of the AOKP dialer (I also think the same one is used in CM9). It's simple, elegant, and has T9 searching built in.
The Sense one is laggy, bulky, and slow.

That may actually be what I'm referring to. My last phone was running cm9. Oops
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I should have included this in the post so my apologies, but I don't think it's possible. Even if you replaced the APK with the stock or CM9 dialer, I think it would crash. HTC has heavily modified their Android source and framework so the HTC Dialer is deeply embedded in the ROM and can't be replaced.
With that said, you can get an APK from the market that will replace the dialer, but it's not a true dialer. It basically acts like a dialer then sends the dial commands through the phone's stock dialer. They're finnicky at best, usable at worst.
Just my opinion though, I may have some of the details wrong as I'm not a dev.
The only 2 things I wish I had when I was on Cyanogen was the Sense Dialer and Camera app...both are superior to AOSP (at least at that time).
Sense Dialer having the smart search is a godsend.

Newer Cyanogen (7.2 and up) has a modified AOSP dialer that integrates smart search. Very slick.

I saw a thread comparing both beans rom and cleanrom. Beans being AOSP and cleanrom non-AOSP. What is the not so technical definition of AOSP and what are the benefits and downfalls of both AOSP and non-AOSP roms?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Technically they are both touchwiz.
Beans has an AOSP look.
Neither are true AOSP.
AOSP is android a it was meant to be.
Everything else has add-ons on top of android. Touchwiz. Sense. Blur. Etc.

Is there any "true" AOSP roms for the note 2?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
CM10 under Original Development, and AOKP, Pacman, and Paranoid Android under Development are all AOSP(Android Open Source Project)
These ROMs are still in their alpha stage though on this device, so be sure to read through the threads to find out what's working and what's not. They are actually excellent builds for only being alpha, but they do have bugs that may make it unusable for some as a daily driver. Just give them some time though, they will be rock solid before too long.
The cool thing about any AOSP ROM is they all have tons of customization options, from status bar clock and battery tweaks, to lock screen modifications, built in performance options, System and per app DPI changes, etc.
The main downside would be it's no longer TouchWiz, so you're going to lose some of your motion options like swipe screen to do screen capture, direct call, smart stay, and will also lose the S-Pen tricks such as air hover, long pressing on the screen while clicking button for screen shot (which you can immediately draw on and share) and all of the other neat little things TouchWiz integrated, but there are a lot of apps on the play store that can replace these functionalities, and the pen still works fine as a normal stylus.

I'm assuming I'm not alone here, as I have seen many people across the forums saying that they have either already gone to, or are thinking of flashing an AOSP ROM, and are worried about losing all of those Samsung Goodies (Like hover, air gestures, eye control, TW Camera, etc.) They generally also seem to want the customizability of a custom rom, as well. So, let's discuss how people have gone about getting that JB feel on a TW ROM.
The way I currently have this set up is with the Hyperdrive 5.7 ROM as a base. With just that, you get a smoother, faster, and enormously feature-packed TW ROM. The customization you can accomplish with this ROM is very impressive, especially considering it is TouchWiz. On top of this, I'm running - yep, you guessed it - Nova Launcher.
Nova Launcher is, in my opinion, the obvious choice for getting stock JB feel on any device. Nova allows the important customizations made to Hyperdrive to continue working, while adding the JB feel right on top. I've also run the script from within Hyperdrive to enable the Nexus 4 Softkeys, and I've shut off the lights on the capacitive keys on the device itself. This makes them completely invisible, so the device looks much more like a Nexus device, if you like that sort of thing.
What do you guys think? What other options are out there? I'm looking to give some insight to users who may want to get this type of feel on their S4, while also getting some feedback or better/different ways of achieving this. Good luck, and happy theming!

What does the dialer look like? Still the ugly white?
What about incoming call screen?
Just changing the launcher doesn't make it AOSP themed.

Why don't you just go check out the ROM thread yourself before completely discounting it? No, it does not have the white dialer. It's very well themed and runs great.

Yeah. So the dialer and incoming calls are both part of the TW base. Nova launcher is just that; a home/launcher replacement. Just as you said. Though I am sure there are theming options for these things through third party methods, since many people dislike TW appearances.
I am just trying to get more of an AOSP look/feel, doesn't need to be completely coated in JB.

I fully understood the point of the thread which is why I suggested Eclipse ROM. It's Touchwiz based and includes all the Touchwiz gimmicks as well as the TW camera. It's most certainly NOT an AOSP ROM as you seem to think it is. It's just a very well themed Touchwiz ROM.

When you say Stock Android look and feel do you mean AOSP?
Hyperdrive has a lot of options for pretty much every apsect of the rom
Eclipse S4 TW Edition is basically a TW rom with the look and feel of AOSP. Those are the two best in my opinion. If you're really trying to get down to nearly pure AOSP programs and stuff you can check out Andybone's Barebones Rom too. It just depends on how AOSP like you wanna go.

My ROM doesn't have anything AOSP
An AOSP theme is coming thanks to nito for giving me the permission to use his work.
Tried your Rom, was great but I didn't like how the Rom settings say there is an aosp lock screen but nothing happens when I toggle it. Also you need to add a default music player, be it Samsung's or play music. Also hated how it doesn't restore all apps, had to manually do that.

If you are talking about my ROM..
Google auto restores your apps,...
Not ROM related.
also there is NOTHING wrong with the AOSP lock screen,
and Samsung Music is found in Aroma, choose hub..
I suggest doing a FULL CLEAN install, and NOT installing anything outside my thread.
I can only assume you flashed an android.policy.jar and that broke the AOSP lock screen. User Error.
Also I don't include ANY app you can download from the play store.. why would I?
waste of space.
Everything you hate about my ROM can all be solved by fixing your user errors, and a little research.

These type posts are not allowed as they turn into arguments over which rom is best, and best rom threads get summarily closed as users are expected to read, study and make their own determinations as to what they want on a rom.

Thanks, but I don't want to change roms. I used so many roms and there always was something that didn't work...I just want to use the original Rom...just not the dialer.
Chamelion is Samsung stock based, with aosp/aokp tweaks added. So everything 'stock' works.....
and with respect, if you'd checked it out rather than dismissing it out of hand, you'd have known that.........
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I DID look at it, and for my taste it's too much AOKP and not enough Sammy. What I really want is my rom with AOSP dialer. No other Tweaks etc...
Maybe I got the wrong, but I want to stay as much Sammy as possible. The last 2 years I was experimenting with hundreds of roms and kernels and at some point there was a glitch or something that annoyed the hell out of me.
So I just want to integrate the AOSP dialer into this rom
You *might* be lucky enough to find something like that in the 'themes and apps' section, but like it or not, the way to go is likely to be one of the 'hybrid' ROMs.........
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
