No. You can just download Ubuntu and preview it temporarily while you do s-off.
You don't need to install Ubuntu just put an Ubuntu CD and so s off when it asks you to try out Ubuntu.
Guys give me and everyone else was break with all these threads. You don't have to ask the same question over and over.

possible
yeah thats possible! I've done it with mine Amaze International version.
For this I was bootloader unlocked, rooted. I downloaded the rom, flashed the boot.img present in this downloaded rom, then wiped all data except sd card(using 4EXT Recovery), then I put the rom .zip file on my external sd card, using 4EXT recovery I installed this rom .zip file from ext_sd card and rebooted.
What I felt that there was not any deifference b/w the international and t mobile rom except that tmobile rom had those specific tmobile apps installed in it, which are practically useless for us because of not being on Tmobile network.
Tnx for ol the replies...ubuntu is the way then....guess revolutionary.io and moonshine.io doesnt support htc amaze

Custom ROM does not work
Hi All,
Could anyone send us any explanation what could cause that I JB S-OFF, Super-CID-ed, Unlocked Amaze set 1.93.2222 HBoot instead of the stock 1.93.0000 (Asian unbranded crap version I use). I went through all of steps to allow flash ICS Custom Roms to my device but after I finally had to do copy it to ext_sd and flash on recovery the result is that whatever ROM I want to install (CM 9, 10 any kind of release) it stucked on boot screen or I can reach the SIM unlock but after that my device frozen and has constant reboot.
I tried many various ROM-s (Android Revoluton HD for instance) but I cannot enjoy it.
After my last hope had to make my ruby work so I grabbed T-Mobile stock 2.3.4. GB and install it. It is working properly even I am allow to update it via OTA but It says that I am not using a proper stock rom and denied to update it.
What should I do or what am I doing wrong. I have not rooted my phone yet but truly is it necessary to get a working ICS?
Thanks
I guess you've skipped the upgrading your firmware part in other words flashing a RUU after s-off.. Reason

He's s-off, no need to relock the bootloader, did you think about getting info on the device first before just saying restore to stock? Get his experience level as well, if he got stuck on this, probably clueless on basic stock restoration.

Anyways on to the individual at hand.
What's your device info? Like hboot version, what android version were you on before trying to flash? ICS or GB?
Here's a basics run down on how to get things going again.
There's a stock ruu/ota thread in the dev section, grab the stock GB ruu for your device, put your phone into fastboot mode (check in the amaze bible thread how to do this), restore your device, if it's a zip file for your carrier, rename it to PH85IMG and place it on your sd card, reboot into bootloader and then hit volume up to restore the stock ruu.
If it's an exe file, put it into fastboot and run the exe file, follow all steps and restore the device.
Once done, update to ICS via the software update option available on your device under settings>about phone>software update
Once you're on ICS, flash a custom recovery via hasoon's tool, then reflash the rom you were trying to flash in the beginning.
Ask any further questions right here.

Hi!
Actually I have rooted my HTC Evo 3D that has a Swisscom Android 2.3.4 Firmware.
I was wondering, if I apply the updates that are available (Android 4.0.3), will I loose the root? (seems to be the case)
(I've just rooted my phone, I've kept the original ROM)
But more important will my device that is S-Off be S-On again?
Thanks for help and reply
If you use the ota or ruu you will lose root but if memory serves me you can't upgrade while unlocked anyways. There are upgrades on here that will allow you to keep root though. Search for the pg86img that captain throwback posted. Flash it. Update hboot to 1.58.58 wipe all partitions reboot recovery then flash ics ROM. Although not all ics roms require 1.58+ hboot. Read the op of the ROM you plan on flashing and it should state requirements. Aosp ics and jb use 1.5 and lower hboots.
Hope this helps.

That's probably the easiest solution.
You will not loose s off by upgrading/downgrading or running the ruu
If you run ruu...everything goes back to stock, you WILL stay s off. You will loose root though, so you'll need to install a recovery, and flash super user....you do not have to unlock boot loader again, since you're s off

So I am having... issues, installing ROM's.
Things I've already done with the phone:
I have installed CWM Recovery (version 6.0.0.0, touch)
Unlocked using HTCdev
have S-ON
have HBOOT 1.53.0007
Initiated a boot-loop
The EVO is currently boot-looping as a result of trying to flash a ROM. I can, however, still get into ClockworkMod Recovery and into the area where it shows the HBOOT version, phone type, etc.. I want to install an unofficial build of CM10.3, but the phone boot-loops after I flash the ROM through CWM. I have tried extracting the boot.img file from the ROM zip, flashing it through fastboot, and then flashing the ROM itself afterwards. I have also tried every possible combination of wiping Devlik Cache, /cache, /system, and /data partitions. Any tips? If it is the S-ON (I'm pretty sure it is) then can someone provide a way to obtain S-OFF without the "Wire Trick"?I don't have Ubuntu! The same goes for the HBOOT Version. I know that could also be the problem, as it is too high. If you do have a fix, then could you go into serious detail when describing it? Thank you!
P.S. Moderators, if this is the wrong place for this thread, please don't hesitate to move it.
Only sense ROMs can run on your h-boot. 4ext recovery is recomended. There is no way to s-off your phone other than wire trick. If you used search button you would find around billion threads that answer your questions

I've spended almost the entire afternoon looking for this info and it seems everyone is just too smart and I'm too dumb or we lost kinda the "basic guide" somewere.
I've just got the phone 2 days ago and the idea was to get the Yas4 v11 installed, still dont wanna wreck the new phone and I'm trying to do things as they should.
Yas4 v11 does not need the S-ON, so I've got one thing less to think about, and that's the only thing I actually know...should I root the device? ( don't think so ) Still I think I should install a recovery right?...please gimme some basic steps and I'll wreck my mind into it, I don't really want to be a disturbance.
Whould gladly appreciate any kind of help
PS: Done it with a defy a looong time ago( still have it, still love it ) and with my ex Xperia ZL ( but only original software on the last one ) so I'm a little rusty

First of all, the rom itself is rooted so when you flash you will have root. This does not require S-OFF because it is based on stock ics. To do the procedure you have to unlock your bootloader through the htc.com website and have the fastboot drivers and files on your pc to flash the unlock code binary. There are plenty of guides showing how to do it, just a registration on the site and follow the steps to unlock it (ps: you will loose all the personal data on your phone, eg:factory reset. SD card won't be affected) After this part is done you will see ***UNLOCKED*** on the top of the bootloader of your phone, good luck

Yeah weird, you got it second hand? You could bypass the unlock from htc because of S-OFF, nevermind. So you can install any custom rom out there, remember that using any aosp rom you will loose the 3D recording (taking video/pictures). What's your hboot version? To install 4ext on your mobile you can download it here and flash it through fastboot mode. "fastboot flash recovery 4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1.0.0.6_RC1.img" is the command. Change the recovery name to a smaller one for easier use.

So Aosp rom is equivalent to custom rom...
Whould this be allright?:
Downgrade to BL 1.49
Quote:
►►Now to downgrade bootloader to 1.49....
►►Remember that PG86IMG.zip file?
►Put it on the root of your sdcard (so don't put it inside any folder)
►Boot to Hboot->Fastboot-> bootloader
►Press BOOTLOADER button...
►Now we wait until the installation is finished... of course, press YES when it says so.
►►You're now on bootloader 1.49, S-OFFed, and with a custom recovery...
If not please explain

Hey Guys,
I have an unbranded HTC Amaze(Asian Version), s-on and rooted, recently I tried to flash Cyanogenmod 10 on it using 4ext, it flashed fine, but after starting, it kept hanging and rebooting, so I researched a bit and found out that my firmware is still the old gingerbread one, and to upgrade it I would have to turn s-off first.
However, I found a stock T-mobile Gingerbread ROM ,and flashed it its working fine now, and the it also allows me to update the system to ICS officially using the update available.
But my question is that if I update my android officially using the ICS update available, would it update my kernel as well? So I may be able to flash custom ICS roms on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thnx
Yes, it'll upgrade the software, kernel, and radio. But it's not recommended to do.
There's a link to the guide to upgrade the Asian amaze in the OP of the viper thread.
Follow the guide and read it thoroughly first.
Afaik you should use the guide and it'll then you'll be good!
