Why does the gs4 even need an emulated SD card?
The internal storage is short so I bought a 64gb SD. But everything wants to go into the emulated sd even my custom recovery only sees the emulated sd.
Is there a setting anywhere to change this?

What recovery are you using. In CWM Recovery go to Install Zip from SD Card > Choose Zip From External SD Card.

You can change it in TWRP and Goo Manager, too. The only place I saw that you cannot change it is from within ROM Manager, but ROM Manager sucks anyway, lol. And you can change it in Titanium, and you can change it in the TW camera (in fact, the camera asks you when you start it the first time).
I have Dolphin browser installed primarily because it allows you to choose download location. The only app I am stuck on is SkyDrive (I prefer it over Drive and DropBox because it has a very straightforward "just download the damned file" function), but I use FolderMount to get around it. I use FolderMount to relocate my Android Data and OBB files, too. So there is just some things like app setting files, etc. on internal card now for me.

Got my new Note, this is my first droid phone, and I got LOTS of questions. I currently have the i717 version, unrooted.
1) Is currently is any reliable way to install ICS on the i717?
2) How do I check if there were any previous kernel or ROM flashes?
3) Is there a reliable way to root the device WITHOUT increasing the counter (assuming it is currently at 0)?
4) How do I move installed apps, which are currently under "System Storage" to "USB storage"?
I can answer all of your questions very simply. Search and read.
yep all ur answers are here just gotta read,

Ya from what I gathered, there is ICS for the international version. I have yet to see something for the i717.
I dont have an SD yet, I was referring to moving them from System to USB storage.
I will be getting as SD soon though.

There are two potential SD cards for the Note. One is the internal SD card. This is actually the part of the phone where you store your music and other files. It's the space allotted by the OS for storage. The Note comes with 16GB of internal storage, but 2GB is reserved for the system. You cannot access this for data storage. There is also a portion of the internal SD card that is used by the OS itself.
The remaining amount of storage is about 12GB. This is accessible through a file explorer such as Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, etc, and is located in the /sdcard folder. This is where any App2SD type app will move apps to. This is also where you store your music and other files like photos, etc.
The Note also has a slot for an external SD card. To access it, you take the battery cover off and right next to the SIM card, there is a little slot for the micro SD card. The Note is published as handling up to 32GB micro SD cards, but there are plenty of people using 64GB micro SD cards with their phone.
Using the external SD card would allow you to add additional music and photos and other files. It is not used at all by the OS or system, so you would have as much space on it as you can after formatting it. (You lose some space after formatting.)
So to summarize: the Note has 16GB, about 12GB available through the internal SD card. You can add additional storage using the external SD card (officially up to 32 GB, unofficially up to 64Gb).

Got it, but still have a little question. I noticed when I install any app, it goes directly onto the 2GB system reserved space. What if I run out of that 2GB, what happens in that case, can I move the installed apps into the 12GB or I have to move it into the purchased/external SD card?

^^ got it, thanks.
K I researched and read, I still cannot find out if I can safely root my Bell i717, without increasing the flash counters.
Also, it seems there is no ICS yet available for this device.
Can someone please chime in?
wow this thread cleared up a lot for me. Still got a few questions though...so when i go to settings and click on an app and click "move app to sd" it moves it to the "internal sd" which has about 12gb of space? so then what goes on the external sd card? is the storage on the SD card ONLY accessible when you plug it into a computer and put it in mass storage mode? I remember when I had my nexus one, moving apps to sd actually put it on the external sd card..
The note is not a DROID. Droid is a verizon marketing term.
You can reset your flash counter. So even if you increase it by flashing CWM or rooting then just reset it back to 0. That's what I did.
Once CWM is installed flash all the ROMs you want through CWM. Just back up nandroid first and you can always go back.
I use a 64GB microSD card and store nandroid backups, photos, videos, podcasts, etc.
The internal SD (USB Storage) is used for app data.

Root ir phone throigh odin then go search dev thread for the rom u want read the requiements then flash they r all good
note @ 1.83
... You don't need root to flash a ROM.
Instead of rooting with Odin, just flash CWM with Odin then flash the ROM from there.
The only reason to root first, is to run titanium backup if you so desire
For some reason cwm does not see my ext micro sd card. I placed a custom rom on it and when go to install the Rom it does not see the sd card, it just sees the internal sd card. Root explore does not see the sd card either. Only app that sees it ous Astro. Anyone else have this problem.

Root Explorer does see the card, you just need to go to the /mnt folder.
For CWM? You need to actually put the rom on the internal storage. Our version of CWM does not support the external card right now. In the future? Yes, most likely.

Ok thank you very much, I did find the external card on in root explorer. And I will place my roms on the internal sd card.
Hello,
I have installed Cyanogenmod version 10.1 on my S2.
The rom looks good. I only have one problem. I can't access my external SD card.
When I go to system, storage I see there the SD, and how much of it is filled, but I can't access it in any way nor any installed sw.
I have a backup that is on my external SD, when I want to do restore, I can't since it will not see the external sd.
Can anyone please help me?

Happened to me on both internal and external cards women first booted. Try booting again, keep the screen alive while your phone boots up. It worked for me

Go inside storage and there u will find the sdcard0 and sdcard1
For me it says sdcard (Internal sdcard), and the extsdcard (external sdcard). But you can find them in the Storage folder.
Happy New Year.
Thank you friends,
I might have not understood you all...when I go to file manager or mybackup-pro, I can't see the external sd card (nor the sw see's it, nor I with the file explorer).
Only when I got to system/storage I see that the device see's it (I can see the storage of the sd and how much is filled).
However, I can't access it, nor my sw installed.
Please let me know how you resolved it?
Thank you,

Ignore the built in file manager and install "File Manager" from Google Play and use that instead.
Same problem here.
Using another file manager will not solve the problem of Apollo crashing if you have music files on that external sd card.
The whole system can not access the card.
In Settings->Storage it say: SD Card -> Available XX GB
But there is no statistics about what is on there.
The whole system is not able to pick anything up from that sd card without having root access.
Why?!
Go to recovery and fix permissions.
Sent from my digital submersible hovercraft.
Thx, but that is not working, dude :/
Seems like Apollo was crashing because of one of my songs on the SD card.
The other situation is still there. No detailed information about the content of the external sd card in settings -> storage.
Maybe it is default behavior?!
Unable to see External SDCard
Via Win 7 PC, using USB, I can see 3 Drives on Motorola Droid Razr 1/Moto Drive 2/Internal Storage 3/External SDCard (32gb) I can see and access all files on any of these drives.
Once disconnected from USB, I go to Storage and CAN see the same above. However, when using any File Manager software, and not connected via USB, I can't even see the EXT. SD Card, and therefore can't access any files on that drive/card.
I recently received official JB pggicial OTA from Moto.
simpleeeeeee!
i too had this problem! galley, and music players were not able to access the data of memory card! i just put back all the data again after formatting the memory card! and it workedddddd... so simple!
hit thanks if i helped:victory::victory:
I had the exact problem. All I did was go into the "General Setting" from Settings, and changed the app from Safe mode to Root Access Mode. Hope this helps.

Even I suffered the same problem in my s2 cm11 kitkat..
What I did was:
Booted into Recovery --> Mount and Storage
Then mount sdcard0 and sdcard1
Ok, apparently my internal card is filling up quickly... How does one go about moving things to the sd card? Or is that not an option as of yet?
Running LiquidSmooth at the moment and all rooted out...
Folder mount is the best app for this.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
personally i dont like folder mount i use link2sd app and yes it does work for the s4 you just cant make the ext on the external sd from the custom recovery any more you have to use the pc program to format the external sd to fat 32 and choose how ever much memory you want for that part then make the ext part and then also choose how much memory you want for that part go through the process then once you launch link2sd it will ask you to select the ext part of your external sd and there ya go you can now create symbolic links between your apps and external sd theres a guide floating around on the internet just look up how to use link2sd app
Flashed this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235446
I am getting this error of No external storage available on all the apps that require internal storage e.g. In Gallery, it says no external storage available, same in camera, explorer e.t.c
Have I done something wrong?
Do you have an sd card?
I do have an sd card, currently, the player only works with the sd card.
somehow the sd card is being treated as the internal sd card? this is completely weird. As soon as I take out the sd card, it fails to recognize the internal card.

1 can you go setting--- memory-- check what is available and send the scren shoot.
2 when you wipe in recovery no any strange message at the screen? like can't read or open mmcblk0p 15....
I got this same kind of problem but i dont have and external Sd, but i want to save the pictures on the phone it self is there a way to change this? Because when i open the camera ap it says, no external memory.
I had the same issue
I had the same issue.
Go into recovery mode and try to mount emmc. That's what my external SD was renamed.
It was fine when I loaded the ROM but it flaked out after I loaded a different kernel.
I would recommend using X-plore from the Play Store to navigate your files. It's the best way to explore, move etc.
Try format SD-card:
Go to CWM -> mounts and storage -> format sdcard
