No 4g speeds - HTC Amaze 4G

My browsing speed has been subpar all day. speedrom is showing 3g rather than 4g. i though perhaps it was some of my tweaks in android tweaker. reset all of them but it would make no sense that this happens out of the blue. any ideas are appreciated.

Well i doubt it's a ROM problem. T-mobile is probably doing maintenance or it is just a slow day with more people on the tower.
Of you insist it's a ROM problem come and flash my ROM.

Display 1x ??

Does the EVO 3d and sense 3.0 have the same issue as the evo 4g where it doesn't display 1x and it always displays 3g?
Sometimes I notice that I have 5 bars of signal and it displays 3g but my speeds are like 1x speed.

Yes. It shows only 3G icon. I think the problem is in AndroidPolicy.jar, but could be wrong. A custom ROM will fix this issue.
I was wondering why I've never seen 1x. Saw it for 2 years on my Pre in crappy signal areas.
Yeah I remember using a custom ROM on the EVO 4G like cyanogen but you would think HTC would fix this by now in their sense launcher.

Fix? Lol I think that is by design. Requested by Sprint. HTC devs were forced to comply. At least that is my thought on the topic.

Haha, that might be true, but wouldnt that be like...not sure how to put it into proper terms....lieing to our faces.....basically saying regardless where you go, you are always on 3g.
The only time that I've seen it say 1x or something other than 3g is when it was roaming.
If course its a blatent move by Sprint to trick us. The irony is that 3G in most areas isn't much faster than 1x at the moment.

Yes, it does and will show 1x but i only see it when i send a txt message.
Use a signal widget to display your true mode at the given time.
There is a mod for the EVO that you can edit the phones file and make it display 1x when you do have 1x. Not sure if it will work with the 3vo but I know it works for other HTC phones besides the EVO, might be worth a try. I'll probably try it tomorrow and let you know. Heres the link

Any one else...

Really looking forward to a Sprint leak so we can have a new firmware update actually built for our phones and hopefully a little better radio performance?

eh, mine is doing just fine how it is.
I just recently got stationed in Ft. Gordon, GA and my signal is worthless. Most everyone here is using AT&T and tethering off of 4G while I'm lucky to have 1 bar of 3G. Seriously I can't even stream a 5 minute YouTube video on my phone.
Supposedly there's some girl in my barracks that has a Sprint iPhone who gets good service.
I'm starting to wonder if it isn't my ROM. I'm using the ICS meanROM.

But the leak was built for a carbon copy of our phones. It won't be much different when released officially. If they release radios with the update, you'll still be connecting to the same network.
Just don't get your hopes up for a big difference.

That has zero effect on signal strength. It might effect data throughput but not signal strength.
I doubt official firmware will boost performance over stock sprint firmware we have now.

LTE question

I did a factory wipe, installed meanROM 1.4 and then I installed radio. Is there any risk of not getting LTE?
I am in one of the cities that should have it today.

That would be great if Sprint would ever do something with LTE. I'm in Houston, and have driven all over the city the past couple days. I saw the 4g icon come on a few times, but never long enough to get a speed test. This is getting absolutely ridiculous.

We spent the weekend in Webster, using it for cheaper hotels than Galveston, and I had LTE off Nasa Pkwy all weekend......if i ventured anywhere else no dice.....including the Frys......I averaged around 6.5 down and 5 up......came in handy as I had my OverdrivePro with me, but just tethered with my EVOLTE to mess around and download crap for fun......
No issues. once I was connected I was connected...until I left the immediate area.

The cure for slow tmobile speeds.

Only way to cure slow uploads and download is
1. Must be on a tw rom
2. Go to service mode by using *#2263#
3. Go to wcdma per. and click on wcdma 850
4. Signal bar will be replaced with a circle with a line thru it.
5. While about 5-10 seconds. Your signal bars will return but you will have no 4g.
6. Hit settings button, go back and click on wcdma all and 4g will come back.
7. Do a speed test and profit.
8. Every time you reboot you must do this every time. Only takes about 30 seconds.
There is now another method to get fast speeds on aokp thanks to Curgervending.

Honestly I believe that your method in conjunction to flashing an aokp rom right after(if that's what you want) and you may get the speeds you're looking for. This is a theory at the moment but I have been able to get 16mbps on aokp before and ironically it was after flashing a tw rom.

Touchwiz is the skin placed on top of the android OS. HTC phones have sense, Motorola has Blur and Samsung has touchwiz. The name of the default Samsung launcher is touchwiz but obviously there's choice. With that said we're going away from the topic of the post.

Wow!!!! I am on ics-Padawan2 with the blaze modem. I can't believe the difference. My UP speeds more than doubled.
Poor up speeds were the only thing that sent me to Straight talk- tried it for a month and their up speeds on the att card (yes-flashed the correct att modem) was only .6-.7 mbps. Barely better than my best tmo up speeds. Download speeds on ST were 1.5 to 3 mbps- really poor compared to tmo. I was getting 7-10 mbps down on tmo Just came back to tmo and found this little gem!!!!
After this little simple adjustment my up speeds went from .2-.5 mbps (without this adjustment on t-mo) to .5-1 mbps with the adjustment! better or equal to ST with the att sim. Very cool!:highfive: My DL speeds after adjustment bumped up too consistently >12mbps. Really happy I came back to tmo now!!!!!
THANK YOU Rob!

Don't laugh, but I have no idea. I'm on the Black Star Rom. That's about all I really know. It's ICS if that tells you anything lol.
Touchwiz roms are the ones that have Samsung/S pen apps and not 3rd party ones. AOSP are based on stock roms with no skin.

Network Speed Testing: Speedtest

This morning I was outside with my wife and decided to run a speed test to see how well my home WiFi connection was on the patio. Then I switched over to AT&T and... WOW! My best result by far. Currently running stock JB and Mystery Faux 4.1 kernel.

LTE is no joke. I've been trying to tell my friends that it makes HSPA + feel like dial up. I only have 2-3 bars right now. I'll come back and post when I can get a better signal.
LA area. Much better than pre jb speeds. Still nowhere near the 40+mbps I was getting in Oakland.

I'm a against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
Makes you think paying for a ISP is a waste when you got LTE. Im on T-Mobile LTE and I average 14-20mbps in washington dc.
I agree. I've been debating dropping Cox internet.. but then I have to pay to tether and even with "unlimited" data.. I'll end up getting throttled..

My throttled LTE speeds are actually as fast as my HSPA+ full speed was, (8Mb/s)

Low network speed
I was in an AT&T store playing with various phones (I haven't decided which phone I want yet) and one of the tests I ran was speedtest. Turned off wifi on an HTC One, SGS4, and LGOG. The SGS4 and One both grabbed ~22/~6 down/up speeds, but the LGOG was in the ~6/~2 down/up range. All AT&T employees were really busy, so I couldn't ask them for help.
Can anyone think of a reason why this would happen? I ran the test multiple times. (I didn't try to troubleshoot other than rerunning the test)
The network was probably really bogged down by multiple people using the network off the same tower. "Heavy traffic"..
Correct me if I'm wrong. Just my educated guess.
As you can see from the above speed tests.. the LGOG has no problem getting high speeds
Also did you check to see what network it was on...
4G or HSPA+.... the symbol would have said 4GLTE or 4G respectively
